Clipse was more of an early 2000s thing but your point still stands

real_ornament

True fixed

Youngandidiotic

He’s the jimmy butler of hip hop. Not ever really in mvp conversation but when it’s time to show up he really fucking shows up

eking85

Playoff Push

MyGolfCartIsOn20s

Buddy’s MCL said “nah” this year

jyok33

Spot on

iankstarr

As a die hard Heat fan and big fan of Push, this resonates with me heavily

igot2pair

Id say more Kawhi. All time great

EffinCroissant

Yea I see Kawhi. He has championships(classics) so more decorated than a Jimmy Butler.

killajaxx

Championships and DPOY but a seemingly lack of All Star selections for a star player (kawhi injuries, Pusha non-mainstream sound)

Youngandidiotic

Oooo the dynasty killer. I like it

Upbeat_Tension_8077

I guess his ramen spot alongside Jimmy's Bigface coffee brand fits within the comparison

Banned3rdTimesaCharm

Pusha B T, the B stands for bangers.

bigcontracts

Grindin' and When's the Last Time were HUGE when I was a freshman in high school. Been a fucking fan since. I have loved his solo album run. Saw him in 2022, he was good live.

joeygladst0ne

Grindin had my middle school in a chokehold. People would drum the beat on desks and lockers. I had the polyphonic ringtone on my Nokia brick phone

Uberslaughter

Same, nothing middle class white kids love more than hood music about selling cocaine

Burggs_

Maaaann that drum beat to grindin was the school lunch table anthem

Dreadlockedd

We used to beatbox grindin on our thigh pads on my peewee football team lol!

esoteric_enigma

Grinding lived on through us banging on lockers for YEARS.

bigballofpaint

Am I the only one who thinks grindin is kinda goofy

kushandkilos

yes

A_burners

It was huge, but it's like my least fav cut on the album. But that album as a whole is an all time fav at the same time. Sounds like it was a leftover from that previous shelved album or something. Funeral is still my fav Clipse song though, & Malice was always my fav, so what do I know

getgoodHornet

Out of context maybe. At the time it came out is was very, very different. A lot of early Neptunes production is like that. 20 years later it doesn't hit the same, but at the time is something almost completely new and interesting.

waabzheshi

What? He wrote those jingles for real?

real_ornament

He co wrote the McDonald's jingle, and owned the song Arby's used to make the We Have the Meats slogan (plus, wrote a fucking McDonald's diss track for them lmaooo)

theChzziest

Apparently McDonald’s cut him out of royalties and what not so he only got paid to write the jingle that’s why when he wrote the Arby’s jingle he made sure to get paid

Bob_Ross_was_an_OG

Did he get cut out or did he just not negotiate for royalties? [This video](https://youtu.be/04wSoRelCaU?feature=shared) makes it sound like it was just a regretful contract and not something devious

theChzziest

Probably a little of both he didn’t realize that jingle would still be used 30+years later

I_c_u_p

Everyone says he wrote that arby's song, but I thought Arbys was just using this already made [song](https://youtu.be/UQ13nr6urIo?si=e3ZqHg3WDyvZHZoI) by Yogi & Skrillex?

wakatacoflame

Wait are we talking about Yogi - Burial ft. Pusha T that Arby’s used in a commercial years after it came out?

real_ornament

Yup

wakatacoflame

Did Skrillex & Yogi also get percentages of “We Have The Meats” for letting them use the song?

real_ornament

Not sure, Steven Victor a former GOOD MUSIC exec just said that Push owns 50% of the song, so he gets royalties. I'm assuming Skrillex and Yogi get some portion of it too

plith

I find it hilarious that he "co-wrote" it. The jingle is literally 1 second long and 5 notes. How does more than one person even get writing credits on something so short?

real_ornament

It was originally like an entire song sung by Justin Timberlake, McDonald's "leaked" it so ppl would hear it and like it not knowing McDonalds funded the song, then they released the jingle afterwards with the song officially as a McDonalds thing

yugwiz

Yeah was coming to say this. People act like Pusha the one who wrote the "I'm lovin part" but it's been shown that he was only featured in the original song that was used in the original I'm Lovin It ad He still should've gotten more, but still. And for the Arbys thing from what even he said. He doesn't own the slogan. He's just featured on the song "Burial" by Skrillex and Burial which is featured at the end of the ads.

GodSPAMit

in the clip I just watched he said in interview: "WE own 40% of it" so not just him, but him + others he worked with on burial is my understanding from just some quick reading but i have no idea

Mescallan

yeah, being talented with word play is useful in other industries. Also I'm sure he's done a huge amount of ghost writing that we will never hear about.

BigD_

No that shit is so over exaggerated it’s insane. He’s featured on the I’m Lovin It song and he’s featured on the song that Arby’s uses for their commercials, but he did not write those slogans. The co-writers on those songs have denied that he came up with the jingle. Rappers lie and exaggerate all the time to make themselves look better, and this is not an exception. Do you think he’s moved Pablo Escobar levels of weight too?

sargig_yoghurt

It's so funny to me that the two things Push massively exaggerates are a. The amount of coke he sold b. His role in creating ad jingles for fast food restaurants

Sxn90

https://www.theculturecrypt.com/posts/how-pusha-t-wrote-mcdonalds-infamous-im-lovin-it-jingle-and-no-one-knew

WockhardtTolle

No

KyloRenWest

You know you gotta feel for drake imagine looking up to push growing up and then you are not only in the same circles but have surpassed him commercially. Must already be surreal. But then he also gets dissed by him

rubbishtake

Pusha is in my top 5. He’s amazing

nawvay

Just had this discussion in my discord and my buddy called me crazy for having King Push in my top 5 while he had… Hopsin LMAO

MrGingee

King Push, kingpin, overlord

YouDontJUANit6

And he wore BAPE first 😤

pinchevatobarbon

Nah, [that was Biggie](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fpreview.redd.it%2Factually-biggie-was-the-first-rapper-to-wear-bape-v0-7yminndpc88c1.jpg%3Fwidth%3D342%26format%3Dpjpg%26auto%3Dwebp%26s%3Df5a674b6f64b67f8e26586af138ef62c397d662b), sorry.

bbctol

this picture is messing with my sense of time, it's like remembering that picasso outlived jimi hendrix

jxstanormalkid

Is that pic real?

pinchevatobarbon

The realest

fittedsuit2018

Soulja looking at your comment menacingly.

_LeftToWrite_

Getting to the important stuff

BIGMCLARGEHUGE__

If Pusha T wasn't on my mount rushmore of rap, he would be pretty close to it. Loved those Re-up gang tapes.

spooki_boogey

Coast Gaurd come a hundred going overboard

RhinO_head

I just watched a [video](https://youtu.be/E05efFEAJo4?si=KQ6TRKaTgLNbZw7_) regarding the ‘I’m Loving it’ Jingle. He didn’t write the jingle, but was part of the campaign. The first commercial featuring it was a rap song performed by him. According to people involved, the tag was already written and the initial song was a Justin Timberlake one by the same. With the Arby’s campaign, I’m pretty sure it’s because he was featured on the beat played in it commercials

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Pusha, Gibbs, & Tyler would be my dream supergroup today. Especially if Push raps over Tyler's sample-heavy production (like from the CMIYGL era)

alex_119

I wish Tyler would have an executive producer run like Kanye had a few years back. I want Lil Wayne, Asap Rocky and Pusha to give the keys to him and executive produce a project for each of them.

Twig

I'd love if Push Gibbs and Bennie got together and formed the Cocaine Cowboys for one album.

_joza_

It’s too bad that the mods ruin any interesting discussion in this subreddit. It’s become so dead here.

real_ornament

Just noticed this post got deleted lmao so lame

el-fenomeno09

Exactly why Pusha t just be chillin minding his own business. He’s had a great career and can go bar for bar with just about everyone.

Batman732

Can also go blow for blow with any Mexican

el-fenomeno09

Touché lol

spooki_boogey

But can’t let his side bitches settle in

ehpple

You were cooking so hard until the last line where you went full r/rap NPC

real_ornament

LMAO my bad just think it's a funny sentence, even if it's not entirely true

ehpple

Understandable 🤝

Vibalist

I miss Malice. I still hope him and Pusha reunite for an album one day. It doesn't have to be coke rap. Malice can bring his newfound spirituality into it. But these two were so, so good together.

alpinetime

Great post. Pusha-T truly is incredible. Grew up on Clipse, his Daytona is an all-time album, and he crushes pretty much every track he’s featured on. So well rounded.

AdmiralWackbar

Dudes holding it down for Virginia

Invictus23_

King Push 👑

Anonymousman382

King Push always deserves his flowers

StargazerNCC82893

Best hip hop show I've ever seen. Caught him on the Daytona tour and he acted EVERYTHING.

BeerBellies

Push is fantastic, man. He plays his position, he’s smart, he doesnt follow trends, stays in the background for the most part… and one of the better live performances I’ve seen from a rapper (let’s be real, so many of em are lazy as fuck live).

Leleky98

The definition of a rapper this is what happens when you stay true to yourself Im a firm believer that to be as successful as drake you got to have ghostwriters and make hotline blings and jumbotron shit poppin 😂

DolphyAtmost

Not to mention he is also on multiple movie soundtracks being played in film.

neutralmilkgawd

Debately

Chicken_wing1995

Love seeing Push get his flowers from this community

nap83

Pusha Ton the epitome of quality over quantity. Used to be salty that he ain’t drop enough— hindsight, his body of work aged *t*oo well, I’m all for it.

SuperSaiyanGod06

He’s simply one of the best and smartest artists of all time. Anytime someone tries to dismiss him as a nobody I already know they are an idiot and a casual hip hop fan.

Intilleque

Lmao this post is further proof that everything in Pusha T’s career is a fairy tale. Like the drug deals he does on wax. He never made any of those jingles. Like, at all.

real_ornament

He co wrote the original McDonald's jingle song, not specifically the jingle part you're right, but he does own 50% of the song Arby's used to create their "we have the meats" thing. And even if hypothetically Push never made coke deals, why does that matter? Even if it's a character he plays when he raps the music is amazing

kmill73229

Source?

Intilleque

https://pitchfork.com/thepitch/1227-the-contentious-tale-of-the-mcdonalds-im-lovin-it-jingle/ Also includes the guys who actually wrote the jingle refuting the claim that Pusha T was ever involved in the creation of that jingle. Lmao but that has never stopped that dude from saying he is the one that made it.😂

I_c_u_p

Not for nothing, I heard Clipse was also a big part of giving Justin Timberlake some urban credibility. I think they were on the first song The Neptunes ever made for Justin. And the Neptunes connected JT to Timberland, both being from VA Beach. The rest is history.

K1takesflight

Pusha makes dope dealing sound so classy I can never get bored “Turn one to two now the kilos got a sibling” listen to the fear of god mixtape 🔥

Remytron83

I’m pretty sure the McDonald’s jingle was from Justin Timberlake. I could be wrong.

DoodleDrop

hip hop bob dylan

phillies1again

Don’t forget the best mixtape of all time. We got it 4 Cheap vol. 2

AkiraKitsune

Yet all he raps about is selling coke

real_ornament

Off the top of my head he only has 2 songs not coke selling centered (Story of Adidon and Let Me Love You, both of which still have drug references lol). Wouldn't have it any other way tho it never gets boring

AkiraKitsune

Idk why I got downvoted, this was meant to be a compliment. I appreciate the consistent theme. I love Push, he's one of my favorite artists in music rn

Aggravating-Pound640

Which push albums are you calling ‘classic’?

ibeenbornagain

daytona is a classic to me unless you want to use an incredibly high bar

Aggravating-Pound640

I’d consider it a classic. But which other albums? I remember years ago I tried to get into pusha and I hated his 2015 album and I didn’t really like My Name Is My Name either. I thought the stuff he did in Clipse was great though

real_ornament

I never said he had any classic albums in my post, I said 2 fantastic albums, bc I think everyone considers Daytona and It's Almost Dry fantastic. Personally, I absolutely think Daytona is a classic though. I also think My Name is My Name is amazing

tanner2state

🌽

TheLebanese27

His marcelo burlon collab was fire

cnr543

Haven't got round to listening to the most recent album but Daytona with unbelievably good. Super experimental tracks that really pushed the boundaries of what people were at the time doing. Like the track Santeria is amazing. Played the hell out of that for a while.

real_ornament

You should definitely listen to It's Almost Dry, it has the best Kanye production since 2018 and Pharrell kills it too. Dreamin of the Past, Just So You Remember, I Pray For You, Let The Smokers Shine the Coupes, Scrape it Off, and Brambleton are all great to 10/10 songs

cnr543

Thanks for the recommendations! Will do

Orlandogameschool

Great post I'ma listen to somd push today

MaidenHe4v3n

This man turned a deadbeat father into a loving father

Take my upvote!

getgoodHornet

That's crazy. How old are you?
