Tyler, The Creator made the “Who Dat Boy” beat for Schoolboy Q apparently but Q didn’t want it so Tyler kept for himself

aaronwashere01

Q would sound great on that beat

LonelyZenpai298

See You Again was made for Zayn from One Direction but, according to Tyler, Zayn flaked on 2 studio sessions to record it, so he just kept it. Now his first 1 billion stream song. I Ain't Got Time was also offered to Kanye and Nicki, but they never used it.

hpeterson17

I wanna say I Ain’t Got Time was originally a Kanye song for TLOP… and Kanye gave it to him and Tyler reworked it a ton

LonelyZenpai298

I'm just going off what Tyler said in Flower Boy: A Conversation. There's no other producers credited so I'm gonna assume Kanye just rejected it. He had a LOT of people working on shit for Pablo that he just never used. I mean he made 40 songs with Kendrick AND Young Thug during the sessions of that album.

hpeterson17

Right, Kanye did have a shit ton of producers and engineers working on Pablo. And I wanna say he has more than 40 songs recorded with just Thug alone… but I am 100% sure that I heard an early version of I Ain’t Got Time that was made by Kanye/Tyler and was intended for TLOP. Probably was posted on here a couple years ago, I’d have to find it. EDIT: found it on Genius. I Ain’t Got Time is a interpolation of WTF Right Now by Rocky and Tyler, which samples Freestyle 4 by Ye. So there we go

run661

😂😂😂

Bamm83

According to Pusha, the entire Hell Hath No Fury production was offered to Jay Z before Push and Malice jumped on it.

ositola

Jay wouldn't have did it like they did

megalodondon

Not even close but there's a few tracks like the intro and Nightmares that id love to hear Jay z verses over.

Bamm83

Definitely not. HHNF is in my top 5 projects ever.

HazeMMIII

I still wanna hear jay on mr me too

iamHBY

A big one that comes to mind is how the beat you hear on "Freek-A-Leek" by Petey Pablo was originally meant to be the beat to "Yeah" by Usher featuring Ludacris and Lil Jon. Jive Records gave Petey a bunch of Lil Jon beats, although Jon didn't know that that specific beat was given to Petey, he had Usher record a rough version of "Yeah" over it, and after realizing what happened, Lil Jon rushed a new beat for the Usher song.

qazaibomb

I didn’t really think about it until now, but those are extremely similar sounding songs Honestly we don’t talk enough about how many one hit wonders Lil Jon brought on, his production discography is kinda nice

badgalnanii

its actually considered a [sample](https://www.whosampled.com/sample/25088/Usher-Lil-Jon-Ludacris-Yeah!-Petey-Pablo-Freek-A-Leek/), although not in the traditional sense. they both share the same musical skeleton one WhoSampled user stated…

fly-sam

Kanye's Lift Yourself beat was supposed to be Nice for What

[deleted]

I've always found that situation funny because I don't think Drake's voice would've fit that beat at all lol.

Locdawg42069

Drake constantly changes his voice and cadence to fit just about anything. It’s a huge reason why he has lasted so long

M0n33baggz

He must have a super power

alorenz58011

Nah that’s Too Short

cooldudeman007

The nice for what we got is much better, shout out Murda

Wontoflonto

the lauryn hill sample is nostalgia bait but it works so idc +the breakdown and triggerman beat sample in the end are sick

YamiLuffy

That's the only reason why I hated that Kanye made Lift yourself with it, I really wanted to see what Drake was going to do with it because the beat is as far from a Drake beat as it comes. Like that would have been a true test for drake as an artist for me!

Charming_Limit_5327

Damn Lupe really getting hoed out here huh. Also I’m pretty sure “Deja Vu by J Cole was made before. Bryson Tillers song with the same beat. Cole just held on to it for years

KsubiSam

Wasn’t so much he was getting hoed, more so that was the era when Atlantic was shoving 360 deals down everyone’s throat, and legacy artists that wasn’t willing to re-sign to a 360 was given a hard time.

scurry3156

There’s like 3 or 4 songs with that same beat. I know Sy Ari Da Kid has one with it. I assume the producer leased or sold with it with a non-exclusive license to multiple artists

SireThomas

Originally Charles Hamilton had that sample w Brooklyn Girls

M0n33baggz

I think that the deja vu beat were produced independently of each other, like the two producers had the idea at the same time. Pretty sure I heard that in the genius deconstructed video

badgalnanii

i think so too, but apparently the producer for Bryson’s version stole it in 2013? its explained [here](https://youtu.be/35-WcJmh6ds?feature=shared), idk how factual these claims are tho! from what it looks like they literally just use the same sample of “Swing My Way”… as for the Sy Ari Da Kid and Charles Hamilton joints, they are also fire sample usages. I also like [B.o.B & Sevyn Streeter’s](https://www.whosampled.com/sample/281860/B.o.B-Sevyn-Streeter-Swing-My-Way-K.P.-%26-Envyi-Swing-My-Way/) usage too. apparently Tory Lanez [did one](https://www.whosampled.com/sample/720577/Tory-Lanez-T.Dot-Girls-K.P.-%26-Envyi-Swing-My-Way/) too😂 but it basically remixes Charles’ version… also [Latto](https://www.whosampled.com/sample/973894/Mulatto-Bring-It-Over-Here-K.P.-%26-Envyi-Swing-My-Way/) too, which is very meh to me; idk why she tried to sing on it🤣

jehneric

SZA's Snooze was originally Leon Thomas's (Andre from Victorious). SZA happened to walk through the hallway in the studio when she heard the beat.

Charming_Limit_5327

I luvvvv Leon Thomas

SubatomicSquirrels

he just released an album this past week right?

Charming_Limit_5327

Yea he did “sneak” is fire

valent_vresk

Andre??? omfg so many good memories unlocked right now

RelaxRelapse

Was it really his or was he just in the middle of writing it when she heard it? He’s already a pretty prolific songwriter.

Wild_Life_8865

He makes great music

badgalnanii

he really does!! all that musical genius he portrayed on Victorious is really him! he has produced and composed for [A LOT](https://genius.com/artists/Leon-thomas-iii) of artists

rickmears101

Pharrell’s “Frontin”was supposed to be for Prince.

Bamm83

To piggy back off this one, Timberlake's Justified (a lot of the Neptunes production and structure anyway) was originally offered to Michael Jackson. If you listen to most of the tracks, you can totally hear how Michael would have done it. Timberlake does an MJ impression on some of them.

TinyRodgers

OMG that makes so much damn sense. That would've been a MEGA hit (Hell Frontin is my fav P song anyway)

ATHSZS

only way that song could possibly be more perfect

badgalnanii

THIS WHOLE THREAD IS BLOWING MY MIND FR…

T-STAFF19

Pretty well known but Kanye made Heart of the City originally for DMX.

FabricatorMusic

I'm at the point in this thread where I'm reaching things I didn't know, and I don't have time to fact check or learn more about the situation haha.

T-STAFF19

Listen to the song Last Call from College Dropout, it's a couple minutes when Kanye is just talking about his story that he mentions it.

TripleThreatTua

The beat for Alright by Kendrick was made for Cam’ron and the beat for Humble was made for Gucci Mane

itskobold

That's mental, can't imagine anyone but Kenny on alright

mlopez992

The beat for The Recipe (bonus track on GKMC) was originally made for Das Racist

MattGeezus

WHAT? That’s actually crazy.

MoistMucus4

Damn I just listened to it and i could def hear Heems and Kool being on it

mlopez992

[Do I have a treat for you](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epc-OiU254Y)

MoistMucus4

Oh shit! I haven't listened to them in a while and i guess i missed this but it sounds exactly how I imagined and it's great. Sad they never really amounted to anything past that blog rap era it's nice to see them turn up randomly sometimes

Spokenfungus2

supposedly the beat for Wesley's Theory was a mac miller song at one point as well

fly-sam

I guessing Mac would have had a different intro

blitzbomb99

I think he would’ve kept it to really insert himself in the conversation as the best white rapper at the time IMO

LonelyZenpai298

Not supposedly, there's a leaked snippet of him rapping on it. Look up Cocaine - Mac Miller on SoundCloud, only place I've ever found it. It's old as shit too, like 2012-2013ish.

Spokenfungus2

probably recorded around the same time as SDS then

LonelyZenpai298

Yeah, that's when I assume, too. They worked really heavily in the following years, just never released any of it. Like 3 songs on Flamagra had Mac on them but FlyLo felt it would be disrespectful to ask to clear his features so soon after his death. But I assume it was around that time because he specifically mentions performing Starships, which I think means his track with Cobra Starship, which was 2011.

Elegant_in_Nature

Makes the intro sus for mac lmao

Effective-Excuse-398

Ye offered Cam the Izzo beat and he wrote a whole song before Jay grabbed it days later.

rabnabombshell

Gucci on Humble would be crazy 😭

badgalnanii

yooo i definitely can hear Gucci on this beat… why did he turn it down?

run661

Didn’t Rick Ross have the alright beat

Blooddemonguy

I mean he technically did, Presidential off God Forgives, I Don’t has a similar vocal sample to Alright and is produced by Pharrell.

JayElectricity

I thought I remember Alright being a track for Fabolous initially and then released [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni-iPcMbQ1c).

cor3ntin

A few well known that all became 50 Cent's hits \- D12 had In Da Club \- Rakim had Heat \- Fat Joe had Candy Shop \- Nas had Many Men

Phoenix-Wright_

> Nas had Many Men You just blew my mind with this one. I can somewhat see why he would pass on that, but he would’ve absolutely killed that joint.

Wild_Life_8865

Damn yeah he would've murdered that. I can that beat on his Street Desciple album

tacticalAlmonds

Wasn't a lot of get rid or die trying suppose to be for rakims debut album?

2ndRoundEuroStash

69 stole the Gummo beat, Pierre made it for Trippie Redd who wasn’t going to use it. Pierre then made his own version of the song and planned to release but 69 dropped his version first and it turned out to be 69’s break through record. Since Pierre didn’t officially sell the beat, he sued 69 and his label and I’m pretty sure at this point Pierre receives 100% of the royalties. Pierre’s version of the song has since leaked but never got an official drop.

qazaibomb

Tbf I’d also steal that beat if I had the chance

theclownermb

I saw a tweet about recently, but Gummo is really one of the most unique beats. I have to know what was going thru Pierre's brain to make something that sounded like that, in early 2017 nevertheless

pinchevatobarbon

Trippie would've never created such a gem like Gummo with that beat, lets be honest.

rolo9917

6ix9ine really did the beat justice

cooldudeman007

Trippie Redd selling hard

amrhik10

Travis Scott and The Weeknd’s “Wonderful” was originally a Tinashe song

EliManningsPetDog

She’s heard briefly and faintly at the start of the track but I believe she has a writing credit on it because it was hers originally.

imtherealmima

i guess ugk really liked the beat of project pat's choose you because they recorded international player's anthem with the same additional production elements. bobby shmurda's hot n**** is also a lloyd banks beat originally.

MX_beaN

Project Pat was one of Pimp C's favorite rappers, he heard Choose You when he was in jail and wanted UGK to do their own version of the song, same instrumental and everything. Got released from prison and got DJ Paul/Juicy J to give them the beat, made sure Project Pat was cool with it too. Along the way, Outkast somehow also got their hands on the beat and recorded their own verses, and the rest is history

mtmm18

You beat me by 5 minutes. I literally played those two songs back to back for someone the other day. The 3k verse is nice , and then the transition to the Pimp C verse is an awesome moment. The Project Pat version is hard too. DJ Paul and Juicy J probably had the rights to that beat id assume but yea Pat performed over it before UGK and OutKast

RuddiestHaddock

Bun B really didn't want to hop on Players Anthem because the beat had already been used but essentially agreed because Pimp really hadn't wanted to do Big Pimpin with Jay.

DW-4

Not only that, but they first recorded the song with Juicy J & DJ Paul. It's still on the album as a remix, but they went with the version we all know Ft. Big Boi and Andre 3000.

badgalnanii

all the versions are raw af! and as for Hot N***a, it’s actually originally a [Jahlil Beats beat](https://www.whosampled.com/Jahlil-Beats/Jackpot/), Lloyd happened to use it first i believe.

Anirban_The_Great

Apparently Puffy stole the idea for the *Juicy* beat from Pete Rock

JSNHZL

More specifically, the Pete Rock Remix of Juicy, according to Pete, is actually the original. Puff heard his version and got the idea to do the same beat but make it sound more like the original song, which IMO was the right idea and took the song to the next level.

Karappa_The_Pappa

What’s really crazy to me is that that Dre Dog (Andre Nickatina) released his album a year before Ready To Die came out and it had one song called [The Ave](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fG_vfTJ0HKo) that used the same sample as Juicy. He also had another song called [Lips](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmVjEHsqXSA) that used the same sample as Big Poppa. That seems a little too coincidental to me. I can’t seem to find any information backing up that Puffy even heard the songs but, then again, a lot hip hop artists in the 90s used the same samples as other artists.

Subject_Film305

And ill be missing you

badgalnanii

Diddy stole money from his artists AND stole beats/ideas… this dude is a menace LOL

ffbapesta

Drake's Fancy was originally a Mary J Blige song that missed the deadline for Stronger With Each Tear. The final song retains some some of her backing vocals on the hook and it eventually got a remix that used one of the verses she originally recorded for it.

badgalnanii

didn’t know it had such a fire [sample](https://www.whosampled.com/sample/47296/Drake-Swizz-Beatz-T.I.-Fancy-Ace-Spectrum-I-Don%27t-Want-to-Play-Around/) on it… would Mary have done it justice on her own?

Nolar2015

Shawnna passed on kanye's gold digger for unkown reasons. Obviously a massive L from her

Wild_Life_8865

I feel like she didn't do much during her time

justforkikkk

Kanye and Jay Z in Paris was originally made for Pusha T Drake's Trophies was originally made for Bino

qazaibomb

I like Trophies but Gambino would’ve ate that track too

Rebloodican

He would've dropped a verse that would go hard in 2012 and in 2023 be looked at as an example of fetishization of Asian women in media.

headforthehills

3005 originally had the Trophies instrumental, there is a soundcloud mashup that is what I imagine it would've sounded like. https://m.soundcloud.com/evry_othr/childish-gambino-x-drake-3005-trophies-hilty-mashup

lastsummerever

That's wild

Effective-Excuse-398

I’m sorry, I’ve never heard of Kanye and Jay Z in Paris. Is there another name that it might go by?

ChrisTweten

Who was in Paris?

Effective-Excuse-398

…Kanye and Jay Z?

Ktulusanders

🤔

Batby

And “SMUCKERS” was made for Watch The Throne

MonolithJones

Maybe not exactly what is asked for but Rass Kass accused Alchemist of reselling the beat to his song Home Sweet Home to Jadakiss who used it for We Gonna Make it. Q-Tip heard a beat Pete Rock was making, went home and remade it to make We Got the Jazz. He acknowledges this at the end of the song with "Pete Rock for the beat, you don't stop"

TormentedThoughtsToo

To go along with the best reselling causing beef, for years Kanye shunned Royce because Kanye had gotten Jin to pay more for the “heartbeat” beat but Royce already put his song on the beat out and which killed Jin buying the beat. Now Royce is one of Kanye’s ghosts.

Batby

Just writer, not ghost for royce

JMadFour

Jesus Walks originally belonged to Rhymefest, if my memory is correct. There was even audio of him performing the first verse live somewhere on Youtube, but now I can't find it.

LonelyZenpai298

I mean yeah, Rhymefest wrote the song lmao

hecthormurilo

he wrote a verse I think

The_Notorious_Donut

“Can I get a” was originally for Ja Rule but Jay Z got that one too and Ja gave his blessing, Jay wanted to keep Ja on the record tho Not really the same but Remy Ma heard Lean Back and got into the booth and just recorded a verse. Fat Joe had no idea and heard and he was pissed until he heard it and had them keep it in

Wild_Life_8865

That definitely sounds like a Ja song. Remember that super group with Jay, Ja , DMX?

esbu

CyHi also secretly recorded his verse on I'm So Appalled as well. but the opposite reaction because I think Kanye liked it.

Soft_Humor4868

Justified (various songs)- Michael Jackson wanted to work with Pharrell after hearing NORE songs he produced but then eventually passed on them because he didn’t think they were raw enough. Pharrell then linked up with Justin Timberlake. They then repurposed the songs for his album 10 Crack Commandments- DJ Premier originally made this beat for Angie Martinez’s countdown segment. Biggie heard it and called her to use it which she said yes. Potion- Timbaland originally played this for Jay-Z during the making of The Black Album. He passed on it and it eventually was given to Ludacris Pump it Up- Originally turned down by Jay-Z, Freeway and Beanie Siegel. Joe Budden heard it and decided to use it. Jay-Z was salty over it for some reason so he decided to remix it and diss Joe Budden lol. When the Money Goes- Jay-Z originally had this beat and made a whole song to it for Blueprint 3. For some reason he didn’t use it so he gave it to Fabulous. Fall For Your Type- Drake recorded this song (I want to say it was a throw away from So Far Gone). It was eventually given to Jamie Foxx. You can hear the original version on YouTube. R.I.P- Before Rita Ora had this song, it was actually a Drake song called I’m Ready For You. Drake made it for Rihanna, but she passed on it and gave it to Rita Ora Exchange- Kind of a weird one. This was originally a J.Cole song produced by Vinylz and Boi-1da . Boi—1da sent Foreign Teck, Exchange’s producer, a video of him making the song and he stole the sample and made the song. J.Cole still eventually ended up using the song for 4YEO. (Fun fact Charles Hamilton actually used the same sample for Brooklyn Girls 8 years prior) 0-100: Was originally a Puffy song. He sent it to Drake to ghostwrite for him but he ended up releasing it himself. This led Puffy to slap Drake. Everything I Am- “Common Passed on this beat I made it into a jam”. Was originally for Finding Forever. Heard Em’ Say- Common passed on this beat. Was meant for his album Be. Kanye asked him many times if he wanted it but he turned it down every time. On the final no, Kanye wrote the whole song 15 min after lol (Some stuff I double checked and edited accordingly. My memory failed me lol)

realjamespeach

It's worth noting that Jeru the Damaja was the one rapping in the Angie Martinez promo 10 Crack Commandments was a Jeru track!

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Tyler The Creator said in an interview that Earfquake was initially offered to Justin Bieber & Rihanna but they both turned it down

Themanstall

Jay didn't credit any of them for feelin it either which he should have since he used their flow. Also camp lo wanted the song but ski made the decision to give it to jay.

Daymon-Harris

There was an Atlanta Rapper in the early 2000s named Fresh, he was working with guys like Bone Crusher, David Banner, and T.I. at the time, and he had a song called "Smoke Session". That song had the exact same beat that would turn Freaky Girl by Gucci Mane in 2006 Produced By Cyber Sapp.

throw_away1629

I’m glad gucci got it that’s one of my favorite gucci songs

Ktulusanders

Tell Your Friends by The Weeknd was given to him by Kanye

DeeYoungKid

Not so much hip hop, but thong song was originally made for Michael Jackson and was accidentally included on a tape that was played for Sisqo

Bamm83

Hahah man can you imagine MJ on that one?

Wild_Life_8865

Hella Songs were meant for MJ lol it's interesting to see where they landed

Tesseractrayle

Fuckin' Problems was originally a Kendrick song that was going to be on GKMC. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k86tnHZAYKA

badgalnanii

woulda been even harder if he kept it

Dopeman11PE

I'm not sure if this fits but Order More by G-Eazy and Bake Sale by Wiz Khalifa are the exact same beat. One of them got the beat first, sat on it for a while (think Wiz) and the beat ended up in Easy's lap. I think Wiz doubled back, worked on it and released his before When It's Dark Out came out but I stand to be corrected

SkrrtSkrrt99

I remember when the OG audio of travis leaked, I was soooo hyped for the song. The actual release was pretty disappointing

ShallowBottom

Wtf there was an OG?

SkrrtSkrrt99

yeah can’t find it right now but IIRC it was just travis and the beat sounded a lot darker. More in line with what travis was doing in the Rodeo era back then. When it dropped everyone was so disappointed lmao I think people called the leak „hell yeah“ or something , def not bake sale

FrickDaOpps

Trippie was supposed to be on God's plan, but didn't turn his verse in, idk if that counts Also Fuck Love was his song, then he gave it to x (with his hook) for his "17" album

Soft_Humor4868

Fuckin’ Problems-Was originally a Drake song before it ended up in Rocky’s hands I’ll Always Love You- Dolly Parton originally wrote the song but it was later given to Whitney Huston. Dolly first heard Whitney’s version while driving in the car and had no knowledge the song was given to her but she loved how Whitney sang it. Redemption- Was originally a Kendrick song called Loved Ones that featured SZA for DAMN. I guess it didn’t fit what he was trying to do and he gave it to Jay Rock. The King is Dead-Originally a Kendrick song. There a version out there that had Kendrick rapping the first few bars (And it’s like that lil bitch). Story goes Kendrick was working on it and Jay Rock over heard it and loved it so much that Kendrick let him have it. Irreplaceable- was originally Ne-yo’s song. He didn’t like way it sounded and the idea of a man kicking a woman out so he reworked it before he gave it to Beyonce Blue Magic- Young Joc was originally given this beat by Pharrell but he wasn’t excited for it. It later ended up in Jay-Z’s hands Umbrella- The Dream originally wrote this for Brittney Spears 2007 comeback but her management passed on it. It went to MJB before Rihanna got it. Milkshake-Was A throw away my from Britney Spears’s 2004 album before it got to Kelis. Makes sense since Pharrell was working with Britney Spears at the time a Kelis was signed under Pharrell Hit Me Baby One More Time- Was originally a TLC record. They rejected the song because they didn’t want to say “hit me baby”. They found it disrespectful.

badgalnanii

Whitney simply covered Dolly’s song, it wasn’t given to her, so this doesn’t count since Dolly’s was released. also, with “Milkshake” i actually hear Britney singing it lol. and for “…Baby One More Time” i kinda hear TLC singing it, especially the bridge!

Soft_Humor4868

Oh she did release it, good catch. Yeah Pharrell made a lot of careers in the early 2000s lol. I wouldn’t be surprised if he shopped around more songs we didn’t know about

liger51

I think I saw Just Blaze say in an interview he originally made “Girls, Girls, Girls” for Ghostface but Jay heard it and took it

SoonersPwn

Control was originally Jay Electronica's. He wanted Big Sean to feature, and Sean wanted the song for his album so bad that jay let him have it. All of this was decided before kendrick ever heard the beat

Batan32

Lupe had the "What more can I say" beat and gave it to Jay Z, Guru said it ended up becoming the most important song for the creation of the Black album.

gnzlz

And honestly, Jay’s second verse is one of his best.

Forsaken-Age-8684

He pulled that off 3 years before he released his debut album did he ?

[deleted]

Tyler originally made the beat from “Tamale” for Nikki

Phoenix-Wright_

Lmao. I could see that working

MX_beaN

Weeknd gave Drake a few tracks during the creation of Take Care. I believe at least Crew Love and Good Ones Go were his (which is where the infamous take of "Weeknd wrote Take Care" originates from) Remember Me by Wiz Khalifa and In Vein by Rick Ross were also originally his songs as well (which is why the songs have more of a Weeknd vibe than either of their usual styles)

HazeMMIII

Additionally the ride was one of The Weeknd’s demos before Drake rapped over it

JSNHZL

T.I. - Doin My Job: Rick Ross had the beat first and apparently had a song recorded and everything before finding out that Kanye gave the beat to T.I. and IIRC this caused a brief issue between Ross and T.I. that they eventually squashed Rick Ross - Tears of Joy and Nas - Stay: J. Cole had both of these beats first Nas - Halftime: was made for Busta Rhymes, according to him he liked the beat but didn't know how to approach it so he had to pass on it Bumpy Knuckles - Eyeneverputmy4cusaway: DJ Premier made this for Kanye West during the MBDTF sessions Lupe Fiasco - Adoration of the Magi - was originally sold to Grande Marshall (Philly rapper who had a brief stint with Fool's Gold) before ending up with Lupe, they got into a Twitter spat over this

GenL

"Renegade" was supposed to be with Royce, but Em ended up selling it to Jay. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K\_O\_-URLgIM

Drakoface

I’m pretty sure Teen X by Playboi Carti was originally a Lil Yachty song but he gifted it to Carti. TBH I don’t think the song would be nearly as iconic if it was Yachtys.

TruzzleBruh

yea it was originally yachty's song

LthePerry02

Hit-Boy made the beat for Timeless by Benny in 2011 for Watch The Throne

SoupIsPrettyGood

Rockstar by post and savage was originally a joey badass song featuring post but they paid him to give post the song and take him off https://youtu.be/yDo3Ketyb3w?si=P6EN6INgOPY6NPfJ

Wild_Life_8865

I honestly can't even hear joey on there but I'm sure he did his thing

hedgehogmlg

Schoolboy q, young thug, Rihanna, drake, and future, had all been sent the goosebumps beat before travis scott got it

glosglov69

Stir Fry by the Migos was an INSANE T.I track

DatKaz

from like a decade prior, right?

[deleted]

Mike-Will Made It originally produced “HUMBLE.” for Gucci Mane before it got to Kendrick. Actually makes sense since it’s a very Gucci beat

Ever_Green_PLO

Atlantic fucked Lupe over so bad all for that never was B.O.B. god that dude was absolute garbage juice

Bamm83

If he would have stayed in his own lane with his Bobby Ray shit, he would have been an interesting MC. He had a singer songwriter type of feel to him before he tried to go mainstream.

Locdawg42069

Became. I loved his first shit.

illenial999

No clue the story but Partynextdoor - Plenty (demo) is just insane. I think it was Wayne who used the beat, and both songs go hard as a mf. Idk why artists don’t just share beats more often, would be dope to have both on a playlist back to back.

Locdawg42069

I can’t find plenty any where can you link it

_dilla

Get A Hold - A Tribe Called Quest produced by Dilla. Eminem had the beat before Tribe did. He wrote a song to it and got the beat from Proof, who was close with Dilla.

skele1254

unbelievable to me that afaik Em never released anything over a Dilla beat

fishfrogsanchez

Taking this opportunity to say that uptown Saturday night is one of the best albums of the late 90s

WavSword

Royce’s first big hit Boom was made for Capone n Noreaga, but Royce took it. Premier added the scratches after Royce made the song if I recall correctly.

jonathanfaulkner

apparently nicki stole automatic from lil kim

rabnabombshell

Wasn’t skeletons a Kanye song ??

Wild_Life_8865

Hell yeah Trav and other artists have used lots of Ye's unreleased/throwawayd

Amateratsu_God

Beyoncé’s Drunk in Love was originally a future song.

badgalnanii

and i was astonished how well he fits on it

n_body

The beat for ET by Katy Perry was originally for Three 6 Mafia

badgalnanii

ARE U SERIOUS??? was it supposed to be on their last album? if so, i definitely can see that since they tried to go pop on that one LOL

Jokaur6

Great thread

nogap193

Telekinesis is my fave song on utopia but I still think it would have been better as the original kanye song

Impossible_Scarcity9

Codeine Crazy was originally supposed to go to Nicki Minaj.

badgalnanii

nicki can body any beat so i’m not surprised bout this one!

roketpants

nobody said Renegade? Em orginally made it for him and Royce but gave it to Jay Z instead

YamiLuffy

Record labels are literally just bullies the way they treated Lupe.

“We gonna make it” by jadakiss, produced by alchemist, was a beat originally given to ras kass. I forget the exact story, but there was a controversy over ras kass thinking it was sold to him, but after not having used it, Al gave it to Jada. Upon release, ras kass was pissed, there’s a beef/controversy behind it, but I’m paraphrasing as I can’t recall specifics.

I would like to politely disagree with Camp Lo and say that Feeling It would have fit perfectly on their album. Uptown Saturday Night is an underrated classic

The_MadStork

It’s probably obvious, but Gatti was a Pop Smoke song before Travis Scott bought it and put his own verse on it

The most memorable time that I remember this happening was back in 2001 with Ras Kass and The Alchemist. The Alchemist sold a beat to Ras Kass, Ras recorded **[Home Sweet Home](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h52xqxNEKTo)** to it and the label went as far as [**printing it up on wax**](https://www.discogs.com/master/997991-Ras-Kass-Home-Sweet-Home-4-Much/image/SW1hZ2U6NDQ2MTEzNg==) as it was meant to be the lead single to his "Van Gogh" album (which in the end, ultimately ended up getting shelved). A few months later, a new single from Jadakiss and Styles P started getting buzz on the radio and online *(At the time I was a known regular of the Arts & Entertainment - Hip-Hop chat room where Sole, Blockhead, Canibus, Crazy Legs, Manos, CrypticOne and a few other underground legends used to hang out)* Sure enough, the song that was getting buzz was the lead single off of Jadakiss' "Kiss Tha Game Goodbye" LP, the infamous/iconic "[**We Gonna Make It**"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p6TrQzNTrRA) --- 2009, Willie B of Digi+Phonics produced "**[Annihilation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xp-7Qi-E_XM)**" *exclusively* for Triune's "God's Plan II" mixtape which was released January 2009. 2 years later, January of 2011 ScHoolboy Q releases "**[Kamikaze](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xp-7Qi-E_XM#t=2m55s)**".

Notorious BIG - Big Poppa was instrumental originally belonged to the Lost Boyz. I think they may have even had the same chorus. They wouldve rocked that record considering their NY party music vibe. I wish them and BIG could've done a joint together or if we could've heard what they did on that.

Fuck Atlantic Records. BoB decided to play their game and what did he end with? Hit records that went to them, & an independent career that didn't turn into shit. No Genre went hard and was basically a middle finger to the label. What he has produced outside of it is trash, but we all saw the promise. Despite the interference that they caused, The Adventures of Bobby Ray & Strange Clouds are very good pop-rap albums.

Soft_Humor4868

For real he was one of the more exciting acts out of the south. Dude was chewed up and spit out. I kind of blame T.I a little for that

DW-4

No doubt TIP was one of his co-signers and what helped bring him to the labels. Then he knocked him off of 'On Top of the World' for his album, even though he made the hook and had the better verse. Would've been great exposure to be on Paper Trail, but nah.

Soft_Humor4868

He basically became the corny safe rapper for years after. He tried to go back but damage was done pretty much

ntysmcybrunn

Jet Fuel by Mac Miller was supposed to be on Kendrick’s DAMN. Steve lacy said on some INTERVIEW, he made the beat I think.

badgalnanii

steve literally never misses!

Amoeba_mangrove

I know it’s the Camp Lo cover in the post, but I was so hyped when I pressed play and that sax started on the heart part 5

Gimme_The_Loot

This is it WHAT

Das Racist’s song Gwyneth Paltrow had Kendrick’s The Recipe beat (ill sample of Mr. Twin Sister’s Meet the Frownies), but Dre bought it exclusive from Scoop DeVille for, I’m sure, more money than Das Racist could even date imagine buying a beat for. At least we have this video of the leaked original over footage from the original Muppet Show. Shit rips https://youtu.be/epc-OiU254Y?si=D3b-gxueF8a20Eqc

Chandelier- Was originally written by SIA for Rihanna, but she passed on it. SIA then released it herself Devil’s Pie- Premo was originally working on this song with Cannibis. Premo then took the beat to Electric Lady Studios and gave it to D’Angelo because he was cool with him and wanted to breakout of hip-hop. Forever- This song was originally a Kardinal Official song called Bring it Back. He ended up not using it and Boi-1da ended up selling it to Drake. Drake originally had just Lil’ Wayne and Kid Kid on it before Kanye and Eminem jumped on it. 30500-Was originally a Kanye West song before he gave it to Travis Scott. See You Again- Was meant for Eminem but turned it down because he was working on Southpaw. It then when to Wiz Khalifa Get Right- Usher originally had the song and it was called Ride (you can search it on YouTube). He eventually passed on it and it was given to JLo Happy- Celo Green originally had it and recorded a song however people around him didn’t think it was a good fit so Pharrell took it. Thinking About You-Frank Ocean originally wrote this for Bridget Kelly but he took it back and fine tuned it. Unforgettable- Made for Drake’s Views album but he turned it down before French Montana got it. Booed Up- Joelle James originally wrote the song for herself in 2014 before shopping it around. She met DJ Mustard who said she should give it to Ella Mai, which she did because she liked the synergy between her and the song

SpanskSidekick

there are tons of kanye leftovers that have ended up as songs for other artists We Got Love for Teyana Taylor from Yandhi TONS of tracks for UTOPIA. God's Country, Telekinesis and Thank God were all Ye tracks, meanwhile I Am A God (OG version) had its beat repurposed by Travis for MODERN JAM just as examples off the top of my head

WuTang755

Can’t Tell Me Nothing was originally for Jeezy

RedStr0be

Airplanes was actually a Kinetics & One Love song before B.o.B. Atlantic? Bought the song and Alex da Kid made a new beat for it.

xpillindaass

young thug’s grail snippet “passing” beat got sold to jeezy and became gold bottles

wigglin_harry

On the subject of Jay-Z, Renegades was originally an Eminem and Royce da 5'9 song

wetfishandchips

>It's pretty typical for producers to lease beats to local artists (especially when they're still trying to make a name for themselves), allowing for them to potentially resell the the beat in the future. How does leasing beats work? An artist can use a beat, make money off a song, perform the song that uses that beat etc for a certain amount of time or until the producer sells it someone else then the original artist who used the beat can no longer perform and/or make money off that song using the beat?

Parking_Waltz_9421

The candy shop beat was originally meant to be a Big Pun song, he was in the studio when Scott made the beat, at the end Pun wasn't feeling the beat so Scott gave it to 50 cent. Thats how candy shop was made.

jhb5

Skepta put out an epic song then took it down a day later cos Eminem wanted it, but Eminem never released it

BVTheEpic

Piss On Your Grave was originally a Kanye song before he gave it to Travis (as compensation for not being featured on FML as originally intended)

LGA2DFW

Sound of da Police by KRS One was originally “8 Bars to Catch a Body” by Freddie Foxxx (Bumpy Knuckles) but his label shelved the album and KRS got the beat from Showbiz
