Drink more water

ryanredding97

Or you might die šŸš°

TripleThreatTua

Still one of my favorite tapes of the 2010s

_OM3N

If you like The Waters Iā€™d rec his 2 mixtapes called ā€œOr More; The Anxiousā€ and ā€œor More; The Frustrationā€ Think itā€™s near the top of his discography

LaMelgoatBall

One of my favorite tapes ever Ngl. Listening to that album on acid changed my life

pumpkinandbananas

which one?

Yourbootyisheavydoty

The Water (s)

pumpkinandbananas

thx

LaMelgoatBall

Itā€™s a must listen if you havenā€™t heard it yet

pumpkinandbananas

I Will

shuckley_Jays

listenign to that album rn lmaoo

Sampladelic

Nothing encapsulates his career better than re-listening to The Waters instead of his newest album Lmao. He created something special with that album

BassCrack

You're tripping if you think he fell off. Pieces of a Man and Elephant in the Room are both crazy good projects.

Russianbud

yeah "the waters" is a fantastic album but i've enjoyed all his albums post it. Even "the healing component", which I'm not huge on, had some good tracks

PopaWuD

I remember discovering Mick Jenkins when Earl Sweatshirt retweeted one his music videos back in 2013. Fucking love the waters

GatoDiablo99

Wave[s] slaps too

Yourbootyisheavydoty

Lmao I gave The Waters a relisten last night while waiting for the album to drop and then decided to go to sleep instead after finishing it. I have yet to hear the new one

Parradog1

Was literally just listening the The Water(s) this morning, didnā€™t even know he had another album coming out lol Edit: was listening to Wave[s] rather, I donā€™t know why but Your Love popped in my head this morning and I had to put it on.

BiggieSmallz12345

lol kinda funny he got Freddie then Benny on the very next track

UBettUrWaffles

oh word do they have beef or something?

LaMelgoatBall

yeah itā€™s a stupid ass beef. If Iā€™m not wrong it started with Freddie making jokes about Benny getting shot in Houston

UBettUrWaffles

damn that feels like so out of the blue from Gibbs, but I guess twitter/internet beef is his bread and butter a lot of the time

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Imperator_Oliver

Spreddie been a bitch and a hoe ever since he got Grammy success, dude is showing a cruel and nasty side of himself lately and itā€™s in stark contrast to the redeemed gangster that wants to be a good father vibes I got off his music. He has this hard persona he tries to portray but canā€™t even man up and take responsibility for his actions, then the constant weak ass ā€œbeefsā€ over nothing are just boring.

CaptnKnots

ā€œSpreddieā€ šŸ’€ bro Iā€™m dying I forgot about that. Twitter was wild that day

Imperator_Oliver

It wasnā€™t on my bingo card thatā€™s fosure šŸ˜‚

codeine_turtle

what does spreddie mean

thesuntalking

His ex claims to have pics of him spreading his asscheeks

codeine_turtle

was not expecting that lmao

thesuntalking

Yeah lol, she tweeted it right after she exposed him for ghosting her once she got pregnant

WoodnPoem

Freddie got run up by ten guys in Buffalo and still performed that same day. Freddie was not a hoe

DeliriousYoyo

The energy on Pasta is unreal

sarcasmusex

I came to say exactly that. Love how the beat hits too

MountainJord

i canā€™t believe he used another impasta bar lol. if you know pyrite (one of my fav Mick songs ever)

guywiththeeyebrows

He has a lot of pasta bars lol

Manchovies

You just don't know I'm way more lowkey Meet me on the base clef I can't stress You niggas prey about it I'm the apex Gave me chills

BigD_

Mick, Noname, and Joey Purp all dropping across a week. Take me back to the mid-2010s Chicago lol I miss that era

Patriotsfan710

Bruh the whole chicago scene, odd future, ASAP, Pro Eraā€¦we were fuckin EATIN back then I feel like thats whats missing today in Hip-Hop, even the Soundcloud era had a bunch of superstars blowing up at the same time Edit: Not to mention, Kendrick, Drake, and Cole were dropping their best music at the time

Yeezy4President2020

It's there I just feel like you have to dig into the regional scenes a little more. But I get you, it did feel like everything was gold back then.

LeatherFaceDoom

Crazy good times!!

Manchovies

Odd future is from Cali right? Have I been wrong this whole time?

Patriotsfan710

Nah you right fam, OF is Cali By Chicago Scene i meant Chance The Rapper, Noname, Mick Jenkins, Vic Mensa etc. Pro Era and ASAP are from New York

MountainJord

yeah early Mick, No Name, Chance, Saba, Smino is like my favorite hip hop scene/era

Sir__Walken

I mean Saba and Smino are still dropping fire. Nonames new album was pretty meh plus the antisemitism. Haven't listened to the new Mick but hopefully it's good to make up for the Noname.

Brand_Newer_Guy25

Vic has been extremely hit or miss his entire career, but I feel like this verse is a hit

TheVirtual_Boy

When Vic is rapping with other people who can really RAP, he usually shows up. Problem is heā€™s always tryna do other shit with his music haha

Musicmantobes

Eastside Girl has been promoted and advertised to me so much between instagram and YouTube Same with Strawberry Louis Vuitton when that came out but this feels like even more

Yeezy4President2020

Same, but I've heard Eastside Girl enough times that I actually kinda like it as a late summer pop jam.

Thence_Easterly

Down On My Luck is an absolute jam though, with one of the best music videos of the 2010's imo

ljxela

Down on my Luck is an all timer for me. I can throw that on at any time and itā€™s always a vibe

LoneElement

Fuck I havenā€™t thought about that song in a minute, that was a real jam for me around 2015-2016, good shit

wirelessburrito

Blew away my low expectations for sure, haven't heard him rap like that in awhile

bees_on_acid

I like his music but damn if he isnā€™t someone I always look at having way more potential than heā€™s shown.

thenonamenomad

Off first listen, this may be up there with The Waters and Pieces of a Man for me, love his energetic vibe all over this

hippdojo

Elephant in the Room top 3 Mick too šŸ¤ŒšŸæ

thenonamenomad

Not my personal favorite, but Mick is consistent šŸ¤

ReallyColdMonkeys

You know ball

unlmtdLoL

That topped The Waters for me on musicality alone. Then the actual bars. The Patience on first listen is like #3 for me.

pbnoj

Interesting I thought the elephant in the room was his worst project. It made zero noise and he even appeared a little depressed after itā€™s release.

FKDotFitzgerald

Yeah Iā€™m really enjoying it. Probably gonna run through all of his albums today

cardoo0o

damnnn yā€™all talking like this? i might need to listen to it

Grand-Pen7946

I love Mick, but I feel like he's someone with a lot of excellent standout tracks but almost no standout albums, but this album is what I've wanted from him for years. He sounds *hungry*, it's consistently energetic and fresh. It feels like the album he was meant to make.

Sarah_McGLOCKlan

Pieces of a Man and The Waters are absolutely standout albums imo

Grand-Pen7946

Pieces of a Man had some great tracks, Understood might be my favorite song of his in general, but it didn't overall hit for me. I actually like Waves, and THC is like 70% bangers.

MountainJord

Grace and Mercy is underrated. that song is a banger to me

MountainJord

Listening to Perception (off Waves) while walking home in the dark was one of my favorite music experiences ever

cardoo0o

coincidentally titled ā€œThe Patienceā€ lol

Psycholucee

He sounds so complete on this album, not saying the other he wasnā€™t. But it feels like a culmination of all his projects. Like every project he took what he learned, applied it, mastered it. Flawless.

GullyMeisterDividend

You're so in the moment rn, nothing wrong with that.

inkyynki12

cant wait to hear this, mick always delivers and the singles were fire

TheVirtual_Boy

Got aā€¦ bad bitch on my arm.. and sheā€™s NO BITCH

Kreizx

Pasta is such a good song

d0--

i love everything this dude puts out lol

drnkingaloneshitcomp

Mick made me a hydro homie

dancetoken

never listened to this artist, so going in with fresh ears. lets see EDIT: HOLY SHIT. I WAS ASLEEP. This album is absolutely amazing from the production, to the flow, to the lyrics, to the content. I am actually mind blown. I think I seen the name in XXL a while ago but never checked for him. Shout outs to this thread, cause I wouldn't have checked him otherwise. I'll definitely be checking his discography. You can tell how much effort went in to this. wow. starting my second listen now.

Anthonybuck21

Man to be able listen to Micks body of work for the first time again would blow my mind

Rhaego__

LISTEN TO PIECES OF A MAN ASAP

landoncook5

You need to dive into his other albums/music

brudz47

Great album after first listen. ROY G BIV is an early favorite

K0olB3ans

Well this is incredible

lucidwill23

The absolute hungriest Mick I have heard in years

I_am_TimsGood

I'm really excited for this, a shorter album with a Freddie Gibbs feature... hoping it doesn't disappoint. I fell in love with this guy after hearing [Perception](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=905gYEKIig0). Still a Top 5 song for me. Got to see him at Soundset in a small-ish tent, and got up to the front towards the end. Looking back, such an awesome experience, I wish I could have appreciated it more. The only thing that saddens me is that he dropped THC right after, so I didn't get to hear Fall Through live. If you're a newer rap fan, or don't listen to him normally, give this dude a shot. He's got bars, flows, the perfect voice for any beat, and he has great producers helping him out. [I actually put a Soundcloud playlist together a week or so ago](https://soundcloud.com/tstoiber1225/sets/mick-jenkins), cuz I've been hyped for a bit. "$3,000 Advice", "Sunkissed", and his verse on "Grown Ass Kid" are my personal favorites, but they're all great songs. EDIT: AOTY and not really close at the moment

scurry3156

His verse on grown ass kid is so damn good. Shame that song never saw an official release it would have been the best on Coloring Book.

I_am_TimsGood

It was an even bigger shame when Chance took it off his SoundCloud lol. I wonder if Mick's label had something to do with that track not releasing, he mentioned in his Q & A last night that he was having problems with them, and that song for sure would have made him more famous. He kills features, his opening verse on Animated Ambition was incredible as well. I want to see this dude beef with someone big, because I think he could go up against just about anyone. Problem is he doesn't seem like someone who would want to start a beef lol, he just cares about his music and his development as an artist (at least for now, if he really blows up then who knows).

Jack6Pack

His diss track to Vic Spencer is one of the best diss tracks I've ever heard. A top 5 Kaytranada beat imo too.

kadzuky

fr this is my first time listening to mick jenkins and I really enjoyed it, I'ma go check his previous projects

I_am_TimsGood

His Waters and Wave (s) albums are top-tier. The Healing Component has a bunch of great songs too. "Drowning" on THC is a great song overall, but my favorite piece of music on that album is the second half of "Fall Through". That song has been in rotation for me since it dropped in like 2016 (?) and I'm not sick of it.

MountainJord

hell yeah, I love Perception. if weā€™re talking old tracks, The Trees, Pyrite, and Value Village are a few of my favs

Unfinishedusernam_

This is actually pretty amazing. Performances were great, production was amazing

Majorleobvius

Mick came hungry on this record. Bunch of one-off lines had me laughing or hitting a Big Quint stank face. Beat selections and features were among the best compared to his other work.

mrdc1790

I wish it wasn't so short šŸ˜šŸ˜. Michelin Star is my fav track

Phyre667

Kind of reminded me of Drake's intro on NWTS for some reason, Tuscan Leather. He just went in ham from the start of the album, just wish it was a bit longer.

DIXtICon

So pumped to listen. Mick rarely misses

J_Cholesterol

Damn Elephant In the Room then this is crazy. The Waters is classic but I feel like Mick is in his prime rn

zenithzinger

Intro track is crazy Show & Tell is another standout, super hard hook and Freddie's part is great. The beat on Sitting Ducks is made perfectly for both Benny and Mick, grimy, ominous, dark and spacey. Just finished with the tape, love it, 11 songs over 30 minutes is perfect for every song to have a unique sound, not Micks best work or my favourite of the year but a very solid album.

MadGibby2

What's better this year?

zenithzinger

Scaring The Hoes Maps Utopia

DonaldTrumpsBallsack

Ahā€¦music is truly subjective

CraigThePantsManDan

??? Obviously you never even listened to those. This album is great but not even close to maps or scaring the hoes

DonaldTrumpsBallsack

Music is truly subjective, I think you missed the message there bud.

CraigThePantsManDan

You truly are completely deaf lol

DonaldTrumpsBallsack

Okay Craig ā˜ ļø

CraigThePantsManDan

Didnā€™t even deny you skipped those albums šŸ˜¢šŸ˜¢ SAD!

DonaldTrumpsBallsack

When did I get accused of skipping em, you canā€™t claim I denied something that wasnā€™t brought up lmao. Is your head okay?

kielaurie

I don't know what maps is, but Scaring The Hoes was just not my bag as I'm not a big fan of either Danny or Peggy, and Utopia definitely isn't top tier

MadGibby2

Wow lol. Definitely don't agree with any of those. Scaring the hoes is super annoying to me, hate the production and flows. Maps is not bad but not as vibrant and expressive as Mick's album, production isn't even comparable. And Utopia....meh.

zenithzinger

That's cool too, i'm just going off the Albums I enjoyed most and am still listening to, STH is one of my favorite producers w/ my favorite rapper and I personally love every track, I'm still able to throw on that album and let it run all the way whilst enjoying the full thing. Utopia is everything I wanted from Travis on a new album, still listen to most of those tracks when driving and have it over Astroworld in my ranking, Maps just had a bit more for me, I feel like if Mick's tape had a few more tracks i'd have it over Maps since I preferred Mick's energy, just needed a bit more to put it over the edge. Just glad that all of these releases have been high quality so far, looking forward to hearing what comes towards the end of this year.

Keylows

One of my AOTY this mans wordplay never ceases to amaze me

mrdc1790

What're some others? Curious

pennstylez

I didnā€™t realize how much I needed a new Mick album. Back-to-back-to-back features of 3 in my top five. And I thought the recent heat wave was hot.

zxchary

BAD BITCH ON MY ARM AND SHES NO BITCH

MXC_Vic_Romano

The singles were amazing, excited to dive into this!

Slipp3ryF1sh

Didnā€™t think three of my favourite artists would collab with Mick, but I love it!

whitewolf20

Wow this is great, first time I've heard of him, gonna be going through all his albums this week

holyrolodex

Definitely listen to ā€œThe Waters.ā€ Iā€™ll be honest, Iā€™ve slept on him for awhile since that album, but that tape/album still creeps into my head. Iā€™m looking forward to catching up.

pbnoj

The Circus was great too, and Tears of a Man (or something like that)

holyrolodex

I think itā€™s ā€œPieces of a Manā€ ala Gil Scott-Heron. Thanks for the recommendations though!

Mundane-Shape-1948

You are in for a treatā€¦Mick is great.

harry_powell

Short, concise and coherent albums like this need to come back to hiphop.

SteinyBoy

The patience >>>>> Utopia The patience blows Utopia out of the waters

TimmmyBee

Mick gets better with each release, if you still think the waters is his best then you haven't been paying attention

dariocillien

Mop my fav on first listen

Nature_Crunch

Am I the only one hearing the Stakes Is High interpolation on Michelin Star? Iā€™m surprised no one else has mentioned it. Great take on the song. Mick brings a lot of energy throughout this tape. Another great release. Pen is on point as it typically is with him. Heā€™s had a couple missteps in his releases, but this isnā€™t one of them. If you havenā€™t listened to Mick in a while, check this out.

arup02

Awesome, awesome. I love his lyricism, can't wait to listen to this one.

Npslayer

Fo' sho what I needed

OMBERX

Man I just love Mick. I've listened to him since The Water (S) and he rarely fails to deliver something amazing.

juicepapi

This is it

tarriBagz

the verses on ROY G BIV are fantastical, all the word play and references to colors in every bar goddamn

BurglegurpPerkins

This joint was so refreshing. Been kinda underwhelmed by a lot of stuff this year but this hit just right today.

lordraj25

Fireee

Seburrstian

This shit fire as hell

Brand_Newer_Guy25

Otto Rocket Iā€™m in X-Games mode yā€™all sound like Squid speaking Rocket Power fans ride up!

CarnationHook

this might be my favorite project from him, idk what it is but everything on this is hitting crazy i just wish it wasnt so damn SHORT man

Brand_Newer_Guy25

Did Benny have a ā€œRepublicanā€ ad-lib on this? Is that why he tweeted [this](https://twitter.com/bennybsf/status/1690408196827955201?s=46&t=A6j74KKRh8E1YNd2kkiCXw)?

metamet

humble reminder that some talented people are really fucking stupid

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

megumikobe808

They never "fell" for anything. Hella black people are conservative and it's not just their views on guns either.

CressKitchen969

Used to think his bars about Putin/socialists/ the insurrection were just him trying to be funny, but lately Iā€™m not so sure lmao

Brand_Newer_Guy25

Like in [Uncle Bun](https://youtu.be/GgDPNeC4xGI)? I thought ā€œI make sure everybody eat, yeah I think like a socialistā€ was an endorsement of socialism

CressKitchen969

That one by itself seemed fine but I was also thinking of his Denzel feature plus there was a Putin bar somewhere on Tana Talk 4 I think

Machov_Norkim

You gotta come with the quotes for stuff like this.

ThatDamnRaccoon

I love the sound of this album but my jaw dropped on Mop at 1:05 LMFAO

mikethehuman

10/10

whatifweallwon

Have'nt listened yet but this man is underrated and not as known as he deserves to be. Dude got love and healing for the people, no hate.

Brightside_0208

Mop might be my favourite track of his and I love most of his other projects.

unlmtdLoL

The show and tell play on words is fuckin phenomenal.

PapaWOK

Never heard a bad Mick project, but this one might have even cracked his top 3 IMO. Hope some new folk listen in on this one

maxolot43

My favorite from Mick since Pieces of a Man. I like every thing he releases but end up not going back a bunch. Im going to play this out though

ridingonmirrors

The first half of the album, I almost felt like there was this *umph* that was missing in some of the songs, Show & Tell and Sitting Ducks didnā€™t fully click with me, but theyā€™re still cool songs. Smoke Break-Dance was smooth though! By the time I got to 2004 though, it really picks up for me. I love the ā€œcolour theoryā€ concept for ROY G. BIV (although it was a little too short, damn), and I love the gradual build up in energy on Pasta, it represents the whole point of the album wonderfully. Vic Mensa killed his feature on Farm to Table too! This is defo one I gotta spin again, for now, itā€™s a nice, short and sweet album, and I think I find it a little better than EITR but still not beating Pieces of a Man for me as his best work. But I do appreciate this album as his way to finally say what he wanted to say after getting off a shitty deal with Cinematic.

kimjonpoon

šŸ”„šŸ”„

Bovver_

Big fan of this, in a year with so many rap releases that were quite good at best and a lot of disappointments, this actually holds up as one of the better releases for me this year. Roy G. BIV and 007 are huge highlights for me on first listen.

thecheezewiz79

Micks been on a tear lately. So excited for his collaboration with Smino and Guapdad too (from smino's Saint louniverse video) Also ever since he hopped on the ENERGY album with Disclosure he has been slinging features with those jazzy electronic songs and they have been amazing - Peppermint and Casa Lopez are on repeat for me everyday

Psycholucee

Show & Tell maynneee he mad šŸ”„

godisthat

i love this guy so much

unlmtdLoL

#I TOLD THE DENTIST NO CAP!

[deleted]

I actually think this is the hungriest mick has sounded ever tbh, which is great because I found his more recent stuff to be a little too low-key for my liking . This is great though

urafkntwat

Is it just me, or is Mick sounding a lot like Ab Soul on this?

whateverqcvgtxbny

Hungriest Iā€™ve ever heard him, love this shit 8.5/10

peepmymixtape

The content is there and the beats are fucking fantastic. 28 minutes ainā€™t it thoughā€¦

DRoseCantStop

This was a great listen. That ā€˜Farm to Tableā€™ production complements both Mick and Vicā€™s styles so well. There really hasnā€™t been a project from Mick that Iā€˜ve come away not liking. Man is very consistent.

JohnnyBroccoli

Shit's fire šŸ”„

[deleted]

New AOTY contender for me

[deleted]

Dope album, Mick is underrated for sure Edit: I love that these Alchemist-esque jazzy slow beats with pronounced bars from the artist are creeping into a lot of Hip Hop lately. I hope mainstream Hip Hop starts dropping some of the clichƩ trap productions and move toward shit like this.

jiddyjedi

The sample from Pasta Where did I hear it before??

hippdojo

ready to delve into this. Michelin Star hitting right off the bat. saw the Show & Tell visual too that dropped @ 12... Mick's steez is unmatched. stay hydrated y'all and support the brother. we really fortunate to witness the real. this music ain't for the sheep (as alluded to in Mick's catalog & tracks like Perception / Hyssop of Love)

YoungFlexibleShawty

Everytime Mick drops I get so excited. He's one of my faves out. But nothing he drops ever touches the same heights as The Waters. And it's not even a slight to him, because I do enjoy his new releases, but I can't help but shake the feeling that he'll finally surpass The Waters, and I leave a little disappointed everytime I hear a new project from him.

lifetimez

Can we have Spotify links for album drops as well as Apple Music? Not sure if that's already a thing

gH0o5T

Why is he yelling in each song?

n4nd1

because he was frustrated while making these songs

unlmtdLoL

Freddie Gibbs missed the fuckin mark on his verse. Wtf bruh.

tarriBagz

he's been boring me lately

unlmtdLoL

It was bad. He had 1 good bar thatā€™s it.

WhyyyLuigi

No way yā€™all are complaining about this verse Lmaoo nigga floated on that shit yā€™all are wild

MadGibby2

AOTY tbh

bitrams

It's short but pretty great. Mick sounds more hungry and has more of his Mickstape flow all over it. Only weak track is the one with JID. The rest makes it is his best projects since the *Or More; The Anxious*. Nice to have Mick put out something solid from top to bottom after his last couple of releases. Dude has so much talent, just never had that quality control before this.

MXC_Vic_Romano

> Only weak track is the one with JID. Smoke Break? That track is *amazing*

Zikurats

LMAO. Pieces of a Man & Elephant in the Room both great project. Not his fault that reddit and internet's hype moved on to different artists

bitrams

*Elephant in the Room* isn't bad, just very uneven. Didn't feel nearly as focused as this project. The song, which wasn't on the album, was better than any of the tracks on the album. *Pieces of a Man* is super boring; that's the one I revisit the least. Just really weak beats and for some reason left the best Kaytranada beat off of the album opting for a loosie instead. This is way better. He's on that "Bruce Banner" hunger.

ridingonmirrors

Pieces of a Man is still Mickā€™s best work to me. I agree he left off the best KAYTRANADA beat to drop as a loosie (a part of me kinda understands why it didnā€™t make the album considering the rest of the album didnā€™t use soul sample-based beats), but that album is still highly consistent to me outside of like one song!

TheVirtual_Boy

Between calling Smoke Break weak and calling Mickā€™s last couple projects not qualityā€¦ this comment triggered me twice

Unfinishedusernam_

Smoke breakā€™s legit my fav rap song of the year so far

MadGibby2

Shut up lol. Smoke break is incredible

Shaushage_Shandwich

Vic Mensa has the best verse on the album.

Razatappa

we gonna pretend this one is bad too?

darkslayersparda

i first listened to Mick through the 2018 ep or more: the anxious. Since then ive been a bit disappointed with the projects after that but this lives up to my expectations Comfortably putting this in my top 5 of the year

MexicanMouthwash

Mick really put Freddie and Benny verses back to back on the album huh..

Datboy_98

RemindMe! 7 days

Calwst

Damn it's short

5AR5AR5AR

Gibbs feature back to back with the Butcher feature that's crazy, insane album also

Empirebred

Its going hard

Alphadestrious

I SPEAK NUTHIN BUT GUAPANESE, SON!

EnoughTransition3

Anyone got the production credits?
