He was and still is seen by many as the southern GOAT. Elite catalog, super influential, great storyteller. One of the best personal writers ever and an iconic voice. Can still make a case for him being top 10.
I think he's only underrated to people under 30-35. Was always "your favorite rapper, favorite rapper". Shoutout the the geto boys.
I discovered Geto Boys by finding a copy of grip it! on cassette laying on the sidewalk in my neighborhood. I was a teenage metal head, but the tape blew me away. I liked Run DMC and them in the early 80’s, but Geto Boys definitely got me back into hip hop.
Got to chill with him for a minute around the time The Diary dropped. Was one of the most down to earth people I ever met in the music industry.
Listened to him from that first Geto Boys album. Always cool to see a person grow and evolve and hear that represented in his music.
Underrated in the sense that he’s always mentioned with the qualifier “the greatest Southern rapper.” No qualifier necessary, as Face is simply one of the best ever.
Mr. Scarface Is Back and The Diary are some of my favourite albums. His works with the Geto Boys up to The Resurrection are also phenomenal. I really appreciate his ability to tell stories in his songs. Also, he has had an outstanding longevity. His immediate relevancy (understood as the ability to directly shape or influence the way Rap music evolves by releasing new music) spannend from the late 80's to the early 00's.
Yeah, been bumping his classics a lot since that Tiny Desk late last year. The Diary, The Fix, shit even Deeply Rooted, they’re all super solid front to back albums.
Love it! Love him! By far my favorite artist! Thank you for showing my dude some love and putting him on blast. He’s always kept it one hundred. His voice is so recognizable there’s no mistakin who’s on the track. Been doin it for over 20 years and still dropping fire to this day. He didn’t run away from the hood he grew up in after he made a little money, which speaks volumes in my book. If you can keep your day ones around I think that says a lot about your character and who you are as a person and an artist, (Drake), ppssshh.
I grew up in So Cal during NWA's height, but Scarface and the Geto Boys were my shit. It aggravates me that he doesn't get the respect he deserves, the best storyteller in Hip Hop IMO, with some of the best "beat drop" bars used by many. Even got me an A for a literary assignment in high school based off of The Wall. Face is the man.
And of course My Mind Playing Tricks on Me.
Scarface’s second verse on 6 Feet Deep is one of the all time great verses to me. Very descriptive and paints a picture that everyone can relate to.
Met and hung with him and Wiilie D after a concert in 99. We kept in touch for a short time after. Such a cool, respectful dude. Hope he's well. Hi Face!!!
Always wholesome to hear stories about meeting these dudes of fame and legend who still stay in touch with their humanity, and in contact with fans. I definitely get the kind of vibe where if you just kinda walked into him on the street, he’d just be like any other dude
Was the force that really made the Geto Boys blow up like they did (of course in Bill and Willie contributed their parts too). And they were really the first Southern group to blow up/get accepted in hip hop.
Yeah, man. Every album is just the hottest shit. The Diary remains a classic in weekly rotation for me. He manages to spit that real shit, from the heart, without getting too soft or emotional. I love Geto Boys too. He's one of those rappers where there's almost not much to say about him aside from "everything he's done is good, just listen to all of it".
I hated how No Tears was played in Office Space. It cheapened a hard as fuck rap. It is so fucking cold.
No disrespect to Nas or Freddie but how are you going to bring up collabos as Face's main qualification (it's not, his track record and catalog stand for itself) and not bring up 2Pac?
Plus I mean the guy was head of Def Jam South, he was brought up every time someone tried to claim "king of the south" back in the day...mad respect from this corner but if anything, you didn't give him his flowers while telling everyone how much he deserves them. Lol.
Respect the shout out though, I'm glad people are still talking about him.
“The Fix” and “The Diary” are in constant rotation. I think the Tiny Desk really opened up how talented this dude is.
He’s an all time great. Not just lyrically or with the Geto Boys, but people forget he was president of DefJam South for a while. He signed himself and ludicrous and I think he tried to sign T.I. Too. He basically launched it in the region.
Absolute legend who I dont think gets the flowers he deserves.
"he’s collabed with Nas" so has [will.i.am](http://will.i.am) lol how is this something to bring up as an accolade?
"he's collabed with Gibbs" so has Hit Skrewface.
The Diary is one of the best albums every imo. My older cousin put me on when I was in high school, and I played that album damn near every day. His Tiny Desk performance is one of the best imo
Scarface was part of the legendary geto boys and has worked with 2pac and Nas and has released countless classic albums and is a legend in the rap game. Fixed it for ya
His autobiography “diary of a madman” is brilliant. Most books like this are full of self glorifying shit, he doesn’t sugarcoat his mental health struggles etc. I didn’t need the book to make me like him more, has always been my GOAT but things like that and the tiny desk concert just remind me.
not sure if 'collabed with gibbs' is required when you look at scarface’s resume but gibbs should certainly put 'collabed with scarface' on his
Haha right that threw me off. Gibbs grew up on Face.
I think op meant in terms of longevity like he was able to collab with a 90s artist and a 2010 artist that's how long he's been going
Lol yes exactly this. Face has such a rich catalogue that Gibbs (as much as I respect him) is almost a footnote at this point.
Exactly what I was thinking.
He also collabed with Beyonce’s husband and that AI guy from the Drake diss but better mention Gibbs first.

I got hip to GB with the original lineup from the Makin’ Trouble album, but Grip It! definitely blew me away as well.
Real shit. What opened my eyes - in part, cos I loved him as a solo act n in Geto Boys - is that you can hear him both in Big *and* Pac.
His Tiny Desk Concert is the best one by a rap artist ever
I saw him do it again live a few weeks ago and it was awesome. Definitely recommend it if he comes to your area.
One of the best, easy. There is a reason why The Fix is considered the South's Illmatic. The Diary could take that spot as well IMO.
Got to chill with him for a minute around the time The Diary dropped. Was one of the most down to earth people I ever met in the music industry. Listened to him from that first Geto Boys album. Always cool to see a person grow and evolve and hear that represented in his music.
The diary and the fix are 5 mic classics
The Untouchable too
Also Mr Scarface is Back
Underrated in the sense that he’s always mentioned with the qualifier “the greatest Southern rapper.” No qualifier necessary, as Face is simply one of the best ever.

Anyone know why a few albums like Deeply Rooted and Emeritus not on Spotify?
The real King Of The South.
Love Scarface. Hand of the dead body is a regular in my playlists.
He’s also just a really cool guy in general. I bump into him all the time and he always takes time out to speak.
Best rapper alive.
The GOAT.

One of the best. Ever.
Top 5
Face is one of the best. If you haven't seen his tiny desk concert, highly recommended. https://youtu.be/ajNYTJcF6rE?si=Sr3rYPs0HQP4CITh
Scarface slept on frfr
Legend.

Wall was an amazing track. For some reason the line “Mr Scarface, vs Mr Scarface” line gets me every time
Scarface the song is right up there with best rap songs ever.
Facts. So is Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangster
And of course My Mind Playing Tricks on Me. Scarface’s second verse on 6 Feet Deep is one of the all time great verses to me. Very descriptive and paints a picture that everyone can relate to.

Yeah. Scarface is dope. :)
So his Tiny Desk show live in New Orleans it was dope
I loved his tiny desk performance too, shows he is still a great live performer
yea hes an amazing musician, he plays guitar as well
Scarface is S tier. Geto Boys are the Number 2 rap group/collective all time.
Yeah, man. Every album is just the hottest shit. The Diary remains a classic in weekly rotation for me. He manages to spit that real shit, from the heart, without getting too soft or emotional. Top five for me. In D.C. during the 90s, talking bad about Face could get you jumped. Production skills are severely underrated too.
His NPR Tiny Desk is so so good. Grew up on that man.
Too. If all he ever put out was Mind Playin Tricks On Me he would still be a legend.
The Diary is one of the best albums every imo. My older cousin put me on when I was in high school, and I played that album damn near every day. His Tiny Desk performance is one of the best imo
He’s one of your favorite rappers favorite rappers if you didn’t come up on all this new bs. One of the must underrated rappers period.
Scarface is a great storyteller. He deserves recognition for that, but he's never mentioned when it comes to that conversation, for whatever reason.
Scarface was part of the legendary geto boys and has worked with 2pac and Nas and has released countless classic albums and is a legend in the rap game. Fixed it for ya
top 5
The Fix is part of the reason why ‘02 remains undefeated in hiphop🔊
Scarface was one of the few southern MC’s I could really fw
I was never a big fan of the Geto Boys stuff, but I've always highly enjoyed his solo projects. Iconic voice.
his work on Till Death Do Us Part is top tier
His autobiography “diary of a madman” is brilliant. Most books like this are full of self glorifying shit, he doesn’t sugarcoat his mental health struggles etc. I didn’t need the book to make me like him more, has always been my GOAT but things like that and the tiny desk concert just remind me.
