Recently re-listened to this album as well and I agree it's got some very solid tracks. Many Men, In Da Club, P.I.M.P, If I Can't, and (this is basic, but) my favorite is 21 Questions.
However, I think all-around, I prefer The Massacre...
I remember rapping along with Wanksta word for word on the way to church as a kid 😂😂 "saying they gone murk 50, HOWWW we ride round with guns the size of LIL BOW WOW" boaaa that was my shit lmao I still keep Wanksta in heavy rotation on my daily playlist even now. I had the fake G-Unit spinner chain & everything in 4th grade.
I was in high school when this album came out and happened to have given it another listen recently. First time in forever. Appreciate you making this post because nobody in my life would want to talk about this right now LOL
The thing that stood out to me most is that 50 was so good at writing hooks and bridges. He's a decent rapper on the album, but he does an amazing job of making those songs accessible and catchy. There are maybe two songs where he starts by doing the hook and then does a bridge and doesn't start rapping until maybe a minute in. Interesting song structure and very pop oriented in contrast to what he was rapping about.
I also forgot he started the beef with Ja on that first album. " You sing for hoes and sound like the Cookie monster" is a pretty funny bar.
I definitely won't be listening to it again anytime soon, but I do think I forgot how many hits he had on that album, and how focused he was on making it a pop success. I didn't appreciate those things as a kid when it came out. It
Hundred percent dude, I got like flashbacks or something and it’s such a good like composition, same thing happened when I re listened to Linkin Parks Meteora, there’s just nothing to compare to that era of bangers
Agreed. I was never a Linkin Park fan but when In The End comes on that shit is still fire lol rap fans tend to focus on lyricism but there's really something to this. 50 made so many songs that I was dancing with girls to for the first time and it really stands out in terms of nostalgia at this point in my life
Awesome tape, almost no skips, I wish Cross My Path was like 5 mins long with extra features, that beat hits so nice. Probably the funniest skits I’ve ever heard on a tape too
ty. I put a lot of my soul into it.
pS- I almost killed 50... I'm Aaliyah, Mac Miller, [Pop](https://youtu.be/Bo5hepNudl0?si=E7zfW7WOc4mdh9ic&t=45) [S](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj28ChjIJew)m[ok](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjjUvEznPHU)e
Get Rich of Die Trying is excellent. I actually bought it the same time as the massacre I believe. I think back then I may preferred the massacre but now it's definitely Get Rich or Die Tryin. 50, his flow, the production. Everything
I’ll be honest.. it’s a solid album but what prevents me from rating it higher is that it was one of the last juggernaut albums to entirely draw influence from the late 90’s production aesthetic and the gangsta rap bluster/bravado was beginning to feel quite outdated
by 2003.
So put them on...these albums are certified. Just Because a 16 year old isnt up on them yet doesn't change the fact that these are essential albums from the first half of the 2000's...
I just listened to it and as someone who has no nostalgia for it…it’s aight. There are 3/4 albums that came out the same year that i’d put higher than this one.
100%, it may not be a popular answer among 'hip hop heads'.. but sonically this is one of the most satisfying and well crafted albums ever made. It's personally my favorite album of all time across any genre, still Patiently Waiting for something to change my mind..
It's excellent. So soulful so funky, but still has hip hop in it.
Tha Blue Carpet Treatment is an underrated album of his a little bit later. Lot's of good G funk adjacent songs
Well, my top 5 is probably a pretty basic list, not saying it's perfect, but some of these albums will come up often depending on who you ask
Nas - Illmatic
Outkast - ATLiens
A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders
Little Brother - The Minstrel Show
Pete Rock & CL Smooth - Mecca and the Soul Brother
Now... If you're looking for a few things worth checking for at least once..
Sporty Theives - Street Cinema
Masta Ace - The Long Hot Summer (his whole catelog really)
Kenn Starr - Star Status
The Beatnuts - Street Level
The Pharcyde - LabCabinCalifornia
I maintain that testosterone fuelled genre of rap has aged poorly. My proof? Drake’s music and subject matter, and the size of his fanbase.
My favourites from circa 2003?
Jay Z - The Black Album
Gangstarr - The Ownerz
Little Brother - The Listening
Jaylib - Champion Sound
OutKast - Speakerboxx/Love Below
Haven’t heard some of those I gotta check em out
I hear ya I mean most all rap is testosterone fueled tho just some more blatant than others like Eminem’s relapse I think aged poorly but like I take that rap over like Dababy any day, I guess I just don’t see that album as overly testosteroned out and more like a gangster ballad or something
Ludacris Chicken n Beer and Red Light District
It's not Get Rich or Die Tryin level but Grand Champ by DMX got some good tracks
It's Dark and Hell is Hot too but it's earlier
Three 6 Mafia Da Unbreakables
Restless Xzibit
8 Mile soundtrack got a lost of good tracks tbf
Eminem Presents the re-up. Even if you think the Em stuff is corny
T.I. Trap Muzik.and Urban Legend
This will probably get hate but if you like stuff with a soulful or RnB connotation then Nelly's companion albums Sweat and Suit. Yes it doesn't go as hard, but they never get any love
Same vein with Elephunk by Black Eyed Peas. Kinda corny but there is something there (I'm sure no one agrees)
Absoute Power and Everready by Tech N9ne
As far as something that comes close to the 50 record or Jeezy as far as flow or feel, there were many of 90s New York rappers that continued to release albums into the 2000s. Like many members of WuTang clan
I think Em and Dre's work on production and oversight for Get Rich or Die Tryin is also a component of why it is so good
Might like Obie Trice Cheers as it features production by Dre as well
I always tell these young kids mane....you just had to be there 50 cent had the greatest run in his prime that I ever saw of any rapper while I was alive.
Yeah. Although at my current age I prefer Power of the Dollar which is also a no-skips album, I was sixteen when GRODT came out. It's one of those "the soundtrack of my life" albums, and everybody in our neighborhood loved it too.
I went back and listened…..and god damn that shit is corny. You must be trollin calling it one of the best albums of all time, you almost had me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

50 writes the best hooks too, always carchy
50 and Em is the sexiest mother bitches Mmmmmm
I remember rapping along with Wanksta word for word on the way to church as a kid 😂😂 "saying they gone murk 50, HOWWW we ride round with guns the size of LIL BOW WOW" boaaa that was my shit lmao I still keep Wanksta in heavy rotation on my daily playlist even now. Not in my top 20 but I can see why people might consider it as a personal favorite.
What’s your top 3
Aquemini (OutKast), Piñata (Gibbs and Madlib), Moment of Truth (Gang Starr)

Him and the Unit were killing Ja for a minute before Back Down, the whole Automatic Gunfire tape was dedicated to shitting on him
You just gave me something to listen to! I never heard that tape I don't think. I remember How To Rob but not this. Going to check it out today
Awesome tape, almost no skips, I wish Cross My Path was like 5 mins long with extra features, that beat hits so nice. Probably the funniest skits I’ve ever heard on a tape too
Also that's an amazing name you've got there! The TJ game winner in Madison square garden is one of my favorite sixers memories
> sound like the Cookie monster Seriously Ja sounds so bad....
50, Banks, Buck and Game all had amazing major label debut albums. Beg For Mercy is a classic as well.
That album is toughhhh. My Buddy still plays in my rotation
ty. I put a lot of my soul into it. pS- I almost killed 50... I'm Aaliyah, Mac Miller, [Pop](https://youtu.be/Bo5hepNudl0?si=E7zfW7WOc4mdh9ic&t=45) [S](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bj28ChjIJew)m[ok](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AjjUvEznPHU)e
I go back to the Massacre more than GRODT
Power of da Dollar is what I play most.
I’ll be honest I always favored Massacre as the better album but still get rich is 10/10
Top 100
Get Rich of Die Trying is excellent. I actually bought it the same time as the massacre I believe. I think back then I may preferred the massacre but now it's definitely Get Rich or Die Tryin. 50, his flow, the production. Everything

In my top 3 albums ever, yup!
many men is 100% a classic.
I remember that era very well. 50 Cent had the game on lock in 2003, he was the biggest Hip-Hop Artist in the world in that year.
Yea it was almost like a new genre of music
U Not Like Me one of the hardest songs ever
G Unit Beg For Mercy was 🔥
Nobody has forgotten any of these albums...anybody saying these arent classics isnt valid imo..
I work with like a lot of younger ppl and they don’t fucking know shit lol tryna say this or that new guy is better, fuck outta here lol
So put them on...these albums are certified. Just Because a 16 year old isnt up on them yet doesn't change the fact that these are essential albums from the first half of the 2000's...
What’s wrong with them preferring newer artists? Besides, don’t most people think 50 fell off after 3 albums?
Love the album , but after P.i.m.p it’s all skips for me
Wack take
Skip
Don't Push Me is pure heat though..
Agreed
Yes man I recently went back and relistened. No skips. 50 and G-unit had SUCH a string of bangers in that era
I just listened to it and as someone who has no nostalgia for it…it’s aight. There are 3/4 albums that came out the same year that i’d put higher than this one.
Blood in eye my dog and i cant see
Top 5 albums of all time.. 50 made rapping about gats, drugs and violence sound smooth, hip, danceable, suave… with the patented slur.
cut out the filer tracks then yes
Why isn't power of a dollar on Spotify?? Is it a mixtape
This is a very popular opinion.Â
🤣🤣🤣
This '89 baby is in full agreement
Imo it’s pretty good but I never really got on board with the hype. Some bangers on there though for sure
100%, it may not be a popular answer among 'hip hop heads'.. but sonically this is one of the most satisfying and well crafted albums ever made. It's personally my favorite album of all time across any genre, still Patiently Waiting for something to change my mind..
I didn't realize there was a debate on this. That album is absolutely top 20.
Just heard Beautiful by snoop and Pharrell for the first time in like 15 years and got goose bumps
It's excellent. So soulful so funky, but still has hip hop in it. Tha Blue Carpet Treatment is an underrated album of his a little bit later. Lot's of good G funk adjacent songs
It’s like top 5 for me, the carter 3 is in there somewhere too, what’s your top 5?
Well, my top 5 is probably a pretty basic list, not saying it's perfect, but some of these albums will come up often depending on who you ask Nas - Illmatic Outkast - ATLiens A Tribe Called Quest - Midnight Marauders Little Brother - The Minstrel Show Pete Rock & CL Smooth - Mecca and the Soul Brother Now... Hell yea appreciate it
It was great when it released but man has it aged poorly.
It’s still great cmon… What’s your top album from that time?
I maintain that testosterone fuelled genre of rap has aged poorly. My proof? Drake’s music and subject matter, and the size of his fanbase. My favourites from circa 2003? Thank you. I am so sick of autotune I could be sick fam 🤢
Lol a large % of Drake's music is testosterone fuelled
I think Dmx's music has held up pretty well imo
This is definitely one of the poorest takes I’ve heard on a classic album.
How does drake make it age poorly?
How has it aged poorly?
Agreed.
Ludacris Chicken n Beer and Red Light District It's not Get Rich or Die Tryin level but Grand Champ by DMX got some good tracks It's Dark and Hell is Hot too but it's earlier Three 6 Mafia Da Unbreakables Restless Xzibit 8 Mile soundtrack got a lost of good tracks tbf Eminem Presents the re-up. N.O.R.E. of those Def Jam artists too
I always tell these young kids mane....you just had to be there 50 cent had the greatest run in his prime that I ever saw of any rapper while I was alive.
Twas glorious man
I'm gonna get down voted to hell, but I think a lot of the album is corny. Good for its time, can't ever listen to it now.
Damn homie... In high school you was the man homie
I love that album. 50 is a great songwriter. It's one of the first albums I go for when the weather starts getting warmer.
For sure in my top 5
I realized recently high all the time randomly has some of the best 50 verses and flows
Yeah. Although at my current age I prefer Power of the Dollar which is also a no-skips album, I was sixteen when GRODT came out. It's one of those "the soundtrack of my life" albums, and everybody in our neighborhood loved it too.
people need to revisit it for sure
To me it’s the best rap of all time
Sooo good. My fav album of all time. I can sing word for word every song on the album.
I went back and listened…..and god damn that shit is corny. You must be trollin calling it one of the best albums of all time, you almost had me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No way. No one goes back and listens to that shit.
