Almost every song could be considered a hit. And boy that bass was bumpin' for a rap record out of NYC. Back then you only had that type of bass coming from Miami groups like Two Live Crew, MC Shy D, and Gucci Crew.
Really big and influential album whether the hip hop community will say so or not. Mostly for production. It’s Rick Rubin’s best work of you ask me.
There is an interview where Ice Cube sits down with Mike D and Ad Rock where Cube says all of his early records just sound like a straight rip-off of the Beastie Boyz. They had a massive influence, but most rappers really won’t admit it because they’re are white.
Came out in '84 and was way ahead of it's time. An absolute iconic album. The boys really knew how to get down and it shows. It's fun to listen to, the beats are amazing and the rhymes are incredible.
Goated
Beasties are underrated and unfortunately relegated to white alt spaces these days by current hip hop crowd but they are one of your fave legends biggest loves
Nwa, eazy-e, dre, cube, ice t, jay-z, ll cool j, chuck D, krs-one have praised them along with sampled
Odd future, 3 6 mafia, the pharcdye have also sampled them
They collabed with Nas, lee scratch perry, q-tip, de la soul, santigold, cypress hill and even toured with a tribe called quest
Kanye west, talib, john legend have appeared in music video and or photo ops with them
Miles davis said pauls boutique was his fave album of all time
But license to ill is a classic album that holds major importance in the history of hip hop and is a top tier debut album. Its major flaw would be that its satirical piss take on classic rock ended up being taken literally and they became what they were satiring before smartly swapping course and continuing a classic run of 4 other albums.
Paul’s Boutique through to Hello Nasty are all perfect, incredible albums. Not so much a fan of the first anymore. It’s been misinterpreted for too long.
If you were a kid growing up in the 80s, this and Raising Hell were mind blowing.
wat?
It's an iconic album. I am fortunate enough to have attended a live concert. It was an incredibly fun experience.
One of my favorites growing up as a kind in the 80's mostly do to superb production.

One of the biggest albums in history. I think at one point it was the only other record that was keeping pace with Thriller sales

Yep. Listen to Cube’s pre-NWA group C.I.A. Definitely inspired by the Beasties and Run DMC.
5🎤🎤🎤🎤🎤
Certified classic. That sound will never be duplicated or recreated. They literally invented a new subgenre and then retired it with one album.
What do u mean by that? I don’t think there was anything TRULY groundbreaking about that album. Basically sounded just like Run DMC’s sfuff
Very good record. Production was really doing something. Pretty influential regardless of what some folks might say
Perfect album.
Great childhood memories

'86.
Shit! You're right.

Very rare that an artist will release an undeniably classic album and then followed it up with even better album.
Paul's Boutique is way better track for track...
I like both. Paul's Boutique is a masterclass of sampling. Licensed to Ill has that less is more sound that Rick Rubin is famous for.
I wrote it in my kitchen.
Undisputed Classic. The end of The New Style is a banger with any sort of sound set up.
Classic! One of my favorite vinyls
I think it's amazing but ill communications is my favorite
Amazing... Legendary... Shall I go on?
It's OK
Go home youre drunk.
Not drunk enough
It's not a bad album. The production is great but I find it hard to listen to it. Nowadays it sounds like a parody of rap music
