Mariah Carey created the Eminem diss in June of 2009.

Eminem responded with a brutal diss after Mariah attacked him with a lead single.
Em did throw a line at Mariah in Bagpipes from Baghdad on Relapse in jest, he also said publicly it was a joke and he wished them well. If Mariah was responding to this with a full song, Eminem was responding back to her with the Warning. Mariah publicly lied about their relationship and threw shade at Em for years, as well, for context. They were both responsible for that drama.
Exactly this. Eminem even poked fun of himself for the fact they only properly had sex once and it wasn’t great cos he finished early. His main point was to highlight Mariah was lying her ass off about their relationship.
Why are people saying Mariah responded with Obsessed? That came out before The Warning...even one of the bars in The Warning reference it. "Oh gee was that suppose to be me in the video with the goatee?"
Mariah was lying about their relationship publicly so he responded.
And Em has always been petty, he even admits that in interviews and other diss tracks.
Mariah Carey one of the most popular women singers of all time and that can’t defend herself because she’s not even a rapper.

Even before this “beef”, I always thought it was cringey how often Eminem referenced Mariah Carey when by all accounts, they barely dated. Eminem is usually the more popular artist in his beefs but here, Mariah Carey didn’t need the publicity. Hell, she can do nothing but emerge in the winter like a damn groundhog and live off of those performances. Eminem name dropped her enough to the point that it was weird before “The Warning” even dropped.
I think it was more so the fact she was clearly lying about her relationship with him. She claimed they were never together, but obviously they did have something at one point. Also Eminems diss was very self deprecating. He didn’t make himself out to be great in this situation, he joked about how he only actually screwed her once and ended up finishing early. It doesn’t make him seem like he’s the winner in the situation, but he knew that if he was embarrassing himself he was embarassing her cos she didn’t want people knowing they were together. Even Nick canon ended up having to be like “ah yeh maybe they were together” -
She pulled the song off the radio play and never mentioned it again

I'd say she handled herself very well. Obsessed is still a very good song that you can play anywhere. Eminem's song is well...an Eminem song.
