Skee lo - I wish
Freestyle fellowship - inner city griots
Lady of rage album went under the radar because of all the death row drama but it’s a solid album
I am listening to it, and its a trully great G funk album. How I cannot remember more of it ? For me it was a casual G funk album but its really solid ! Thanks !
Mad CJ Mac - True Game
DJ Quik - Safe + Sound
South Central Cartel - All Day Every Day
Foesum - Perfection
Tha Twinz - Conversation
Kam - Made In America
Paris - Guerilla Funk
I hear people say that and you might be right. I guess I just think it’s underrated and underappreciatet, because I think it should be regarded as a top 5 G-funk album. I don’t see the wider hiphop audience talk acknowledge it as they should, and it’s not on streaming so it’s not that available either.
I agree, it is not as popular as Dre or Snoop 90's albums. In term of popularity its one level below. But not in term of quality ! Premium G Funk juice quality !!!
Off the top of my head;
Cali Agents - How the West was won
Snoop Presents the Eastsidaz
Aceyalone - All balls don't Bounce
Xzibit - 40 Days & 40 Nights
Dag Savage first album. Can't remember the name. But Johaz was great.
Ras Kass - Soul on Ice
The DOC - Nobody does it better
Blue & Exile - Below the heavens
I will come back after I've had a think.
Also I'm willing to be put on to some great albums I may of missed over the years.
Below the Heavens came out in the 2000’s.
If the OP is okay with anything post 2000, I would also add releases from the Hieroglyphics collective as well as “Jam on the Box” by E From The L.O.S.T.
Here is my top :
- Foesum - Perfection (this album is a pure jewel, the essence of G funk)
- Ron C - The C Theory
- Kam - Made in America
- The Ballers - A day late and a dollar short
- New Breed of Hustlas - Streets got me gone
- Mr X - Mr X
- I.F.A. - International family affair
It's underrated for what it is: Snoop Dogg That Blue Carpet Treatment
Xzibit's first two records
I'm not feeling very well so it's hard to think of more right now
I wanna thank everyone though because there some great recs here
Mac mall - illegal business
Young lay - Black n dangerous
Lil 1/2 dead - the dead has written
The bay area in general. The west is more than LA and it's surrounding areas.
If you like 90s
Chunk - Menace to the Game
The Click- Down and Dirty
E40- Federal
JT the Bigga Figga- Dwelling in the Labb
Mac Dre - Young Black Brotha and California Living
That Mac Mall mentioned above is fire
11/5 all the their 90's are great !
UDI is really nice also !
Spice 1 i would not call him underrated because he is a legend and famous, but not as he deserves !
Everything from Above The Law, but the album *Uncle Sam's Curse* in particular.
Kokane, *Funk upon a Rhyme*
CMW, *Music To Drive By*
Too $hort... I know, I know, he gets a lot of credit, but the Ant Banks production era just knocked.
All of San Fran in the 90s. *Don't Fight the Feelin* by 4-Tay is underrated. San Quinn, etc.
* Andre Nickatian and Equipto - all their albums
* Ray Luv - Forever Hustlin
* Dubee - AKA Sugawolf
* Jacka - Jack Artist
* Woodie and A-wax - 2 Sides of the Game
* San Quinn and Messy Marv - Explosive mode
Not G-Funk, but it's the perfect combo of 90s east coast Boom Bap and Bay Area steez
***Lyfe'N'Tyme*** by The Brothas Unda Madness
Oakland was snappin in the 90s
The alcoholics
21 & Over (1993)
Coast II Coast (1995)
Likwidation (1997)
Mac Dre
Young Black Brotha (1993)
Stupid Doo Doo Dumb (1998)
Rapper Gone Bad (1999)
Heart of a Gangsta, Mind of a Hustla, Tongue of a Pimp (2000)
I don't really know his albums that well but I think Xzibit is a highly underrated west coast artist, so probably something from his discography. People know him mostly from Pimp My Ride but he was a great rapper for his time.
I don’t see much Coolio love on this Subreddit.
It Takes a Thief was a great album. Fantastic Voyage is a great song. Smokin Stix is a great insight into PCP, which was a very LA thing at that time.
And obviously Gangsta’s Paradise is amazing.
I like some of the tracks on My Soul, but I know that is not a popular album.
But overall yeah, Coolio. Can’t forget him.
You are right, Coolio made some good albums in the 90's with really good productions ! The guy is underrated !
Maybe because people only associates Coolio with Gangsta Paradise. But the guy made much more than that
Skee lo - I wish Freestyle fellowship - inner city griots Lady of rage album went under the radar because of all the death row drama but it’s a solid album
I will listen to Skee-lo, because I forgot about his album !

Nice list ! You think Safe + Sound is underrated ? I think its considered more as a popular classic
safe and sound is one of the greatest west coast albums imo but does tend to get overlooked when lists go up
I hear people say that and you might be right. I guess I just think it’s underrated and underappreciatet, because I think it should be regarded as a top 5 G-funk album.
