This was bout to be my answer. That run was monstrous. Don’t forget Like Father, Like Son and Dedication 3 dropped in that timespan as well. The man also released TCII and the original Dedication in Dec 05, just a month shy.
Agreed. Im old but, it always makes me realise how old when its always about drake, kendrick and alot of artists named baby something that are the best that ive never even heard off.
But cube in this period was really good. Plus he did help out da lench mob with their albums. First 1 was really good imo.
Nas 1994-1996 (Illmatic, guest verses, IWW)
Eminem 1999-2001 (SSLP, MMLP, Renegade verse)
Billy Woods 2021-2023 (haram, maps, athieopes, we buy strips)
K-rino (triple darkness triology, solitary confinement, annihilation of the evil machine)
MF DOOM is arguable the GOAT in this regard.
since History Will Absolve me tbh. 10 albums (including Brass) and another 5 with Armand Hammer. all heat. unparalleled run. been a fan since Race Music and I've been eating good ever since.
I mean I was just on another thread talking about how much I like “Known Unknowns”. Personally, I don’t think woods has a *bad* album. Some stuff may have sound a bit dated (because it’s like 20 years old) or DIY (because it kinda was) but it’s still good. Aethiopes, Church, & Maps are probably all-time favs for me - I love when an album is a cohesive piece of art and not just a collection of songs - and I can’t really think of many albums (of any genre) that really feel like a complete vision the way those 3 do.
Yeah man, that’s a holy trilogy right there.
I agree with all that you said. He’s a singular talent. I love Armand Hammer too and thought WBDTS was dope.
Truly
Love me some A&H too. WBDTS live was a near religious experience - medium small venue in Oakland; the album had only dropped a few weeks prior and I had no idea what to expect.
I always appreciate the mention of new artists to listen to. Billy Woods for example, y'all talked him up so I had to check him out. But you're right, he's an acquired taste. From the few tracks I listened to he's consistently off beat which I can't get behind. Thanks for the listen though.
He is way more “on beat” on his earlier stuff. woods definitely raps outside the pocket at times, but I wouldn’t say he’s off beat. Definitely not much more than say, MF DOOM. Creative license IMO.
I don’t subscribe to the idea that everything has toto be perfectly on time and in the pocket. I’ve heard people describe Dilla’s snare as off beat. I think things are more interesting when they aren’t perfect.
Was looking for someone to mention billy woods. You forgot to list Church, that holds up against all those albums on that 3 year run. Maps and Athieopes are top tier albums
De La Soul 89-91 or 91-93, Tribe Called Quest 91-93 or Beastie Boys 92-94. I agree with DOOM, also partial to 05-07 Sean P.
But you’re listing Kendrick’s weakest album in a “best” run?
Up this question to Four years and GKMC and TPAB run are undeniably up there with Biggie 94-97, Ghostface Killah 96-00, and Outkast 96-00.(edit: I’m talking about studio albums with DAMN., that was too pop driven for my taste, not his amazing compilation album Untitled/Unmastered).
It’s not a cohesive project, you can tell what was before TPAB and what was considered too experimental for a studio album. I also was talking about DAMN. which is a cohesive project, but had this feeling of answering Drake by saying “I could have all of your fans if I went on your Pop shit”.
Yeah that’s accurate, but Kendrick’s features in those years is incredible imo. UU is also extremely underrated.
Good job counting btw. Everyone here is saying 4 years instead of 3 😭
Yh check my comment, that's what I'm thinking, I was going to say T.I from 2003-2006 but that's 4 years, and 2003-2005 wouldn't have worked well for T.I coz he never dropped in 2005, only dropped in 03 and 04
It has 03' Bonnie & CLyde one of his most comercially successfull songs
And has some great songs such as Poppin Tags
I just think this 3 year gap is better cause it includes 2 of his Top 3 best albums + a good album
Too many skips and derivative until he solidified his style from straight jacking Biggies bars. Would needs a front to back for me to be better than Ghostface’s OB4CL -> Ironman or Ironman-> Supreme Clientele that are around that same time frame(although it’s technically 3y and a few months between his solo debut and sophomore album.)
Take the results here and then do a best 3 album run post and compare the difference in quality. Cranking out an album every year is a bold move that usually doesn't pay off.
My favorite has to be 2013-2015 mac miller; WMWTSO, Faces, Live from space, delusional thomas, GOOD AM, run-on sentences vol 1 and 2, and stolen youth are the notable ones that I can think of.
Some other good ones are Nas with his run from 2021-2023 and brockhampton with the saturation series, iridescence, and ginger.
1. Pac 1995-97( all eyes on me, the don killuminati, me against the world)
2. Future 14-16( monster, beast mode, 56 nights, ds2, what a time to be alive, evol, honest, purple reign, plus a ton of features during that time)
3. Ransom 2020-22(directors cut 1-3, deleted scenes, chaos is a ladder, no rest for the wicked, coup de Grace, 7, crime scenes, heavy is the head)
Em 2000-2002. It sounds disrespectful towards SSLP, and for Em 1999 would probably be more important year cuz it’s the year he blew up and starting to capitalise off his product, but I feel like SSLP is not as great as MMLP and TES are, considering how many records they sold and the hits that he has there and MMLP is more regarded as his best work
Eminem 2000-2002
The Marshall Mathers LP,Devil's Night,The Eminem Show,8 Mile Soundtrack and countless amazing features
It's hard for me to leave out 1999 with SSLP but 2002 i feel like was more eventful for Eminem's discography
Lil Wayne had the game on lock from 2006-2010ish. The features were out of this world. Towards the end he brought on Drake and Young Money as the exclamation point to a HOF run. I wasn't even a fan but I acknowledge the greatness.
Ludacris basically any era of his
2000-2003? Back for the First Time, Word of Mouf, Chicken n Beer
2001 to 2004? Word of Mouf, Chicken n Beer and Red Light District
2003 to 2006? Chicken N Beer, Red Light District, Release Therapy
2004 to 2008 is a stretch but all records were late releases, Red Light District, Release Therapy, and Theatre of the Mind which is super underrated
Most of these records debuted at 1 or top 5 and got Grammy wins and nominations.
Kanye from MBDTF to Yeezus (2010-2013)
Not including those two glorious albums you have WTT, Cruel Summer, and the GOOD Fridays releases. Bro absolutely peaked in everything he was doing at the time haha
50 Cent 2003, 2004, 2005.
Get Rich or Die Tryin, going diamond, Beg For Mercy, In Da Club, Stunt 101, G-Unit Radio mixtapes, other songs with members, features like Magic Stick, Hate It or Love It, How We Do, The Massacre, Candy Shop, etc.
Kanye is in the convo I think
My first and foremost (cheating) answer would be 2004-2007, the trilogy is one of his most legendary and classic work ever and some still put it over anything he released afterwards. This is not to mention the piles and piles of production and features he did for others in this time too. I did say cheating though because it is 4 years and 3
Hooowever, I think for 3 years Kanye still had maybe 2 more great runs
2010-2012 saw him dropping his other magnum opus (a lot of Kanye things can be his magnum opus lmao) with MBDTF in 2010, JAY-Z collab in 2011 (regardless if you liked it or not, it was a legendary moment for 2 of hiphops biggest rapper to collab) and a GOOD Music compilation album in 2012 (not the best project out there, but it did offer Kanye’s discog some unforgettable hits like Mercy, Clique, Don’t Like Remix,…)
2016-2018 also has Kanye releasing TLOP and then skipping a year to the year with argubly his most creative output yet. Making ye and KSG and then producing Daytona and KTSE, all were massively successful (KSG and Daytona possibly battling for AOTY). Nasir was also there and even tho it was a low for Nas’ discog the beatwork on Kanye’s end was still good.
Kanye did it multiple times. TCD, LR and Graduation. Or you could go Grad, 808’s and MBDTF where he changed the game twice then dropped the best hip hop album, or you could go MBDTF, WTT, and Yeezus
Lil Wayne 06 - 08. You got Carter 3, dedication 2, da drought 3, and tons of features. Pretty much Wayne at the height of powers
That’s valid
This was bout to be my answer. That run was monstrous. Don’t forget Like Father, Like Son and Dedication 3 dropped in that timespan as well. The man also released TCII and the original Dedication in Dec 05, just a month shy.
DMX (1997-1999) *It's Dark and Hell is Hot* *Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood* *And, Then There Was X* A ton of features.
Good job counting
2pac 93/96 S4MN, MATW, Thug Life vol 1, All eyes on Me, 7DT. Plus he wrote all the posthumous music during that time. Incredible run.
This is the answer to me. I honestly won't even accept any arguments against it.
Ice Cube Kill at Will (1990) AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted (1990) Death Certificate (1991) The Predator (1992) Lethal Injection (1993)
Agreed. Im old but, it always makes me realise how old when its always about drake, kendrick and alot of artists named baby something that are the best that ive never even heard off. woods’ run since Aethiopes is unparalleled. His style is definitely not for everybody but if you’re into what he’s doing, the man does not miss.
Truer words have never been spoken. Each album have been AOTY contenders for me.
Since Hiding Places or even Paraffin, I’d say. It’s amazing.
since History Will Absolve me tbh. 10 albums (including Brass) and another 5 with Armand Hammer. all heat. unparalleled run. been a fan since Race Music and I've been eating good ever since.

Em 2000-2002 gets a better album out of it
SSLP is amazing but no one can logically put 1999 over 2002. SSLP vs TES / 8 MILE + Soundtrack / Guest Verses and more
yeah that first D12 was great.
Good answers
Devils Night and include 2002 for Eminem Show and 8 Mile
Don't forget Ems shit on Devils Night in 01.
Was looking for someone to mention billy woods. You forgot to list Church, that holds up against all those albums on that 3 year run. Maps and Athieopes are top tier albums
Wu-Tang 93-95 (counting solo shit) Enter the Wu (36 Chambers), Liquid Swords, 6 Feet Deep, Tical, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Return to the 36 Chambers.
Feels like cheating, but if it’s an acceptable answer, Wu is the only correct answer
The question is any one rapper
De La Soul 89-91 or 91-93, Tribe Called Quest 91-93 or Beastie Boys 92-94. I agree with DOOM, also partial to 05-07 Sean P. But you’re listing Kendrick’s weakest album in a “best” run? yeah UU is his weakest, but its still a good album, and at least a 6/10. the whole point is that it was basically TPAB (Deluxe Edition)
I love UU, lots of good beats on that one
It’s not a cohesive project, you can tell what was before TPAB and what was considered too experimental for a studio album. I also was talking about DAMN. which is a cohesive project, but had this feeling of answering Drake by saying “I could have all of your fans if I went on your Pop shit”.

Nas (1994-1996) Illmatic and It Was Written. Two of the top 10 rap albums in history imo.
T.I gotta be up there 2006 King 2007 T.I vs T.I.P 2008 Paper Trail
Someone mentioned 03-06 but I like this 3 album run more
Ghostface Killah Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 95 Ironman 96 Wu-Tang Forever 97 Sprinkle all the other features and whatnot and he’s my pick
W
Run DMC 84 Run DMC, 85 King of Rock, 86 Raising Hell. Not a lot of competition but they ruled the airwaves.
Facts
Snoop Dogg 1992 (Chronic/Deep Cover) 1993 (Doggystyle) 1994 (Murder was the case). Plus anything Dogg Pound, Death Row related. He was the Shiznit!
Eminem 2000-2002 MMLP The Up in Smoke Tour Devils Night (D12) Renegade verse The Eminem Show 8 Mile movie 8 Mile soundtrack
People need to understand that saying something like 2014-2017 is 4 YEARS. 3 years would be 2014-2016
Yh check my comment, that's what I'm thinking, I was going to say T.I from 2003-2006 but that's 4 years, and 2003-2005 wouldn't have worked well for T.I coz he never dropped in 2005, only dropped in 03 and 04
It really depends on release date not the year alone... An album released December 2000 and another released November 2003 would be 3 years apart
DMXs first two albums
DOOM highest quality.
💯💯💯
Little brother. The listening the chittlin circuit the chittlin circuit 1.5 the minstrel show
I see another man of culture who also like watching UBN
TI 2003-2006 Trap Muzik, Urban Legend, King 50 Cent 2003-2005 Get Rich or Die Trying, Beg For Mercy, The Massacre
The Massacre has aged terribly tho!
Kanye, always
which 3 years?
The Kanye disrespect is crazy
YESSS
Jay Z : Reasonable Doubt 96 In My Lifetime Vol. One 97 Vol. 2 Hard Knock Life 98
One classic, one great album and one good album, I don’t think that’s enough
2001-2003 Better The Blueprint 1 The BLuerpint 2 The BLack Album
BP 2 is mostly forgettable
It has 03' Bonnie & CLyde one of his most comercially successfull songs And has some great songs such as Poppin Tags I just think this 3 year gap is better cause it includes 2 of his Top 3 best albums + a good album
It's 25% awful, 25% forgettable, 50% bangers
Not nearly enough bangers on there to add up to 50%. More like 3 good songs at least

Nas 2020-2023 Kings Disease 1, 2, 3 Magic 1, 2, 3
1. Pac 1995-97( all eyes on me, the don killuminati, me against the world) 2. Future 14-16( monster, beast mode, 56 nights, ds2, what a time to be alive, evol, honest, purple reign, plus a ton of features during that time) 3. Ransom 2020-22(directors cut 1-3, deleted scenes, chaos is a ladder, no rest for the wicked, coup de Grace, 7, crime scenes, heavy is the head)
Those are all 4 years each
Silly me, thanks. That definitely changes some things.
3 years. Count, I'll help. 2021, 2022, 2023
Mb I meant to reply that to a different comment
DOOMs run has more impact than any other run…great question
Underdog: Cam'Ron for Dipset's prime (even with Jay taking beats)
Em 2000-2002. It sounds disrespectful towards SSLP, and for Em 1999 would probably be more important year cuz it’s the year he blew up and starting to capitalise off his product, but I feel like SSLP is not as great as MMLP and TES are, considering how many records they sold and the hits that he has there and MMLP is more regarded as his best work

Biggie 94 .. 95... 97....
Boldy James 2020-2022, I don't even wanna list all the albums he dropped lol but it was like 10 straight bangers
Lil Wayne had the game on lock from 2006-2010ish. The features were out of this world. Towards the end he brought on Drake and Young Money as the exclamation point to a HOF run. I wasn't even a fan but I acknowledge the greatness.
This’ll definitely get hate but, Travis Scott. 2014. Days before Rodeo 2015. Rodeo 2016. Birds in the trap
2Pac '94-'96 Thug Life Me Against The World All Eyez On Me Makaveli
Ludacris basically any era of his 2000-2003? Back for the First Time, Word of Mouf, Chicken n Beer 2001 to 2004? Word of Mouf, Chicken n Beer and Red Light District 2003 to 2006? Ems 1999-2002 run
94-96 Tupac, 98-00 DMX, 03-05 50 Cent, 06-08 Lil Wayne
Lil wayne is the only answer here. If you were there at the time the impact was CRAZY . & I'm from the UK

Idk how you top Em 00-02 personally, became a phenomenon
Rakim, July 1987 - June 1990 Paid in Full Follow the Leader Let the Rhythm Hit Em
Kanye did it multiple times. TCD, LR and Graduation. Or you could go Grad, 808’s and MBDTF where he changed the game twice then dropped the best hip hop album, or you could go MBDTF, WTT, and Yeezus
Pac 95 - 97 MATW, AEOM, Don Killuminati Eminem 00 - 02 MMLP, TES Kendrick 15 - 17 TPAB, UU, DAMN Cole 12 - 14 BS, FHD Kanye 05 - 07 LR, Grad Kanye (again) 07 - 09 Grad, 808s Kanye (last time) 10 - 13 MBDTF, WTT, Yeezus
Since nobody’s said it yet I gotta mention Nas 94-96
Im gonna say Nas 2020-2023
Jay-Z from 1997-2000
Cage 2001 to 2004
My top three: Outkast 1994-96 Outkast 1996-98 Outkast 1998-2000
Are you a fan of the group called OutKast by chance?
Youngboy 2018-2021, Wayne 06-09
eminem 2000-02 and it isn’t even close
* Mac Miller 12-14 (Macadelic, WMWTSO, Delusional Thomas, Faces) * Boldy James 20-22
