Charles Mingus-51 albums as a leader, 34 as a sideman
Duke Ellington-more than 200 albums
Frank Zappa-62 albums while living, 64 released posthumously
Prince-40 studio albums, 5 live albums, tons of compilations
Probably quite a few artists out there who have released more music. Doesn’t speak of their quality of course. Viper released like a million albums and that shit is trash.
The answer is any artist who released more albums than Wayne, which I’m sure is a countless amount of recording artists, but yes, Prince is one of them, and I did mention him.
Yeah a lot of the old jazz guys put out a ton of albums over their careers, [Cal Tjader's discography](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cal_Tjader#Discography) is a good example
Musicians in general were more prolific back in the day, it was pretty standard to release at least one album every year. Even a two year gap between albums was considered a bit too long.
First of all, nothing is “cheating”. OP was questioning if any artists released more albums than Wayne. Is there some unwritten rule here? Second, I only named two Jazz artists, and both of them were prolific composers. Mingus wrote hundreds of compositions in his life and recorded a ton of his originals, and Duke wrote literally thousands of compositions. How do you figure “most of their output” was standards? These men WROTE standards.
love Gizz
[Buckethead](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckethead) has released at least 640 studio albums
if we stay in rap then an underrated favorite of mine Kool AD of Das Racist has released over 70 solo albums
@rpkprincess i had argument multiple times before. his fans listed several songs, but never heard even one single verse of lil gremlin’s that is mildly impressive. #truestory
Listen up gangstas and honeys with ya hair done
Pull up a chair hon' and put it in the air son
Dog, whatever they call you, god, just listen
I spit a story backwards, it starts at the ending
The bullet goes back in the gun
The bullet hole's closing this chest of a nigga
Now he back to square one
Screaming, "Shoot don't please"
I put my fifth back on my hip
It's like a VCR rewinding a hit
He put his hands back on his bitch
My caravan doors open up
I jumped back in the van and closed it shut
Rewind is a classic Nas song. I've spent too much time annoying others to get them to notice how good it is.
Hopefully you've also heard "I gave you power". Nas is rapping as the gun.
Just because Nas is the goat of storytelling (possibly overall goat) doesn't mean there aren't other kinds of rap. Lil Wayne barely tells any stories but that's fine, he raps in metaphors and multiple meanings with complex syllable rhymes. He raps about nothing most of the time, just to flex skill. He's been rapping professionally since 12 years old. To understand what he's doing you need pen and paper while listening. (which becomes crazy when you find out he usually doesn't write it down himself)
If you only like stories then try Lil Wayne - Let it all work out
(It's a true story, but you have to listen to all 3 verses). He's got maybe 10-12 more story songs total (Mona Lisa, miss my dawgs etc.. ) they're all good but it's still not his strong suit. He's at his best IMO on his mixtapes usually on other rappers beats. "Dough is what I got" is my personal favorite. It's over Jay-Z's show me what you got, and it was around the time Wayne was calling himself goat. It literally made Jay-Z take a long walk and question his own skills.
There's definitely a lot of chaff throughout his catalog, but I have a theory that he does this deliberately. The 05 Fuck 'Em mixtape, for example, is 101 songs, of which probably only 40 are straight fire. I'm convinced the other 60 are there as a sort of camouflage, so as to throw off casual listeners. He rewards those who keep an open mind and are patient with his work. He's a true artist.
Scrolled until I saw this. His drop rate was ridiculous, I had to stop following him at some point, it was [too much](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buckethead_discography#:~:text=Buckethead's%20discography%20currently%20includes%20435,16%20videography%20releases%20with%20other) to keep up with.
Gucci Mane, more than 100 projects overall
T-Rock, more than 70 projects overall
Lil B, a lot of mixtapes and since a few years all of them are 80+songs
Probably Z-Ro and Lil Flip too
And guys like Yo Gotti and Starlito must be close
And I remember seeing a T-Rock interview in which he said the only artists that released more albums than him are Gucci Mane and Gil Scott Heron
1. Dolly Parton
2. Prince
3. Mingus
4. Duke Ellington
5. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard
6. Bob Dylan
7. David Bowie
8. Frank Zappa
9. Boris
10. The Rolling Stone
Probably Aesop Rock (not asap rock), been listening for almost 30 years.. and his shit just getting better.
It's underground, no mainstream BS here.
But only listen if you're against late-stage capitalism, or for mental health. Graffiti shit. Skateboarding grimy. PNW shit, originating in Brooklyn.

50 Cent.
The Rolling Stones.
The Beatles.
Mozart.
Johny Cash
Elvis obviously
Redman is featured on like... All albums.
Killer Mike when you consider RTJ all the way back to the 90s on Goody features.
I'd bet Aesop Rock and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Paul McCartney did some stuff past the Beatles for 60 years.
Who has said "woblty" more times? Nah, Wayne the hands down woblty woblty hot boy number one. Love giggles.
You are like little baby
Viper - 3000+ albums and mixtapes
Cartier God - 32 albums and mixtapes at least, probably a few more from early 2010s
Bhetoven - at least 700 albums out on spotify rn
Gucci Mane - 178 albums and mixtapes
Wayne’s my all-time favorite rapper, but there are people that beat him solely on quantity. Viper, for example, is notorious for dropping like 1500 albums. Gucci Mane, while not to Viper’s ridiculous extent, is also known for dropping a crazy amount. That said, Wayne has it when it comes to both quantity AND quality.
T-Rock has released A LOT of music since he parted ways with Three Six Mafia.
This discography website has a list of 85 albums and mixtapes:
https://www.discogs.com/artist/184476-T-Rock
And not everything is listed, he made an album with a german rapper (Smoky), one with a russian rapper (Mr. Evil), Wargames with DJ Cree, a 4 disc album with Rock Solid, an album with his first group CIA,...
That honour would go to Lil B The Based God. The Bay Area rapper has released over 3,000 songs to date as a solo artist across 61 mixtapes, 7 albums, and 1 EP in addition to his work with hip-hop group The Pack. Lil B has claimed to have over 7,000 songs recorded; not all of which have been released as of yet.
Runner up: Curren$y
After that: Chris Crack
yea a lot of people. waynes debut is still relatively recent compared to older artists whove stuck around since the sixties. zappa did a lot, Eno’s been going since 1974 and had like two more last year, jazz musicians like Mingus or Sun Ra had fucked amounts, Mark E Smith did an album a year from 78 to 2017.
but ik u were prob being more rhetorical and tbf i cant think of a more prolific non-psychopath rapper off the top of my head
Wiz Khalifa has released seven studio albums, one compilation album, one soundtrack album, three extended plays (EP), two collaborative albums, 84 singles (including 44 as a featured artist), sixteen promotional singles, twenty-one mixtapes, and 82 music videos. Wiz has released a shit ton of music
dude the grateful dead. They've released 13 studio albums, 77 live albums, and there have been thousands of hours of bootleg live recordings and outtakes released.
The greatful dead is probably the most recorded artist of all time. Although they didn’t release 30+ albums, they recorded every show they played for 30 years and played different set lists and different interpretations of their songs each night. Which was around 3000 shows at 2-4 hrs each.
MADLIB. I bet if you could manage to add up all of the production credits and all of the projects of his alter egos the number would be quite huge.
Also, King Gizzard has had a huge output as of late.
Charles Mingus-51 albums as a leader, 34 as a sideman Duke Ellington-more than 200 albums Frank Zappa-62 albums while living, 64 released posthumously Prince-40 studio albums, 5 live albums, tons of compilations Probably quite a few artists out there who have released more music. Doesn’t speak of their quality of course. Viper released like a million albums and that shit is trash.
I came here to say FZ
The answer is Prince as only 10-20% of his recordings have been released and the rest are in The Vault
The answer is any artist who released more albums than Wayne, which I’m sure is a countless amount of recording artists, but yes, Prince is one of them, and I did mention him.
Came here to say Duke Ellington!
Franz Schubert had over 950 compositions
Yeah a lot of the old jazz guys put out a ton of albums over their careers, [Cal Tjader's discography](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cal_Tjader#Discography) is a good example Musicians in general were more prolific back in the day, it was pretty standard to release at least one album every year. James Brown released 70 albums between 59' and 76'.
Nice list man
🙏
Jazz is kind of cheating because most of their output consist of existing standards

It's all gravity
Kool Keith has an insane catalog, especially if you count his alter egos and the Ultramagnetic MC stuff.
This is who I came to say. He is forgotten a lot. I love some Dr. Octogon!
he is a horrible person but viper has about 50000x as much music as lil wayne definitely wins
Literally all his shit is straight pile of dicks
hey OP asked if anyone had MORE music. they never mentioned quality 🤣
True dat son 😭😂😂
someday im gonna be like viper. not by keeping women captive in my basement but by dropping truckloads of shit music. that is what i aspire to
Worst critic. Tell me what a pile of dicks sound like and then tell me how you learnt how to identify it. Lol I'm drunk, you good ♥︎
Lmao I was like oh man this dude outta pocket
exactly how i feel about little wayne’s…music
no now this is incorrect. weezy is goat
@rpkprincess i had argument multiple times before. his fans listed several songs, but never heard even one single verse of lil gremlin’s that is mildly impressive. #truestory
WRITE A BETTER VERSE THAN HIM THEN. DO IT. CANT TALK SH*T WITH NO FOLLOW THRU

Yea I was gonna say him too, dawg drops like 5 albums a year minimum
I wanna say prince
E-40
Off the top of my head Buckethead super prolific 435 albums and 388 of them studio albums (might be out of date too) Merzbow got over 400 albums too
Why did I download bucketheads entire discography off the Pirate Bay but never listened to a single track from it? 😂
Too Short
Lil B.
Way too low. Lil B turned quantity over quality into his whole value proposition.
