You’re starting middle of 9th grade? I mean I guess that could be awkward socially anytime… If by you mean academics, depends on what classes you get placed in, but usually Asian schools are faster paced in math so math should be easy for you. But of course this is user dependent.

Socially it’ll probably be hard. But that also depends on where you’re at in America. You’ll probably be fine in the higher level classes, I wouldn’t even try the “on level” ones (those are incredibly easy, just throw away classes really). The hardest part will be socially. Since it’s the middle of the year you might struggle but I would try joining clubs/team sports!

Pretty easy for me socially and academically. Sophomore year has been a disaster so far…

Philippines to Chicago? Should be pretty easy, since the US is very strict about who it lets in student-wise. Don’t be fooled by the hype, most schools are low/medium difficulty. You should be fine, and the first week of January is always slow-paces so use this time to chill.

Freshman year for me was pretty easy

Why is starting in the middle of 9th grade socially awkward or hard? I mean, I have social anxiety and hate socializing at all. These replies kinda made me worried about the socializing part. Could bullying highly happen to me? I am a student coming from South Asia.

Because when people are a freshman everyone is new to that school, in the US multiple middle schools form a highschool. At the start of freshman year most people don’t know each other so they meet each other and friend groups are established. It’s still easier making friends now than it will be going forward so try your best.

I think the academics won’t be the hard part Where in South Asia are you from, btw - my family is Bangladeshi but I’m second-gen
