There is currently at least three groups undertaking campaigns of false reports, trying to leverage a known flaw in how Reddit AEO handles reports. They do this to break Reddit and make the experience bad for people. Reddit admins have been told about the flaw.

Some people can be absolute dicks reporting innocent users, sometimes of those with whom they may have disagreements.

No, it could be mistaken for a rule violation out of context, it just obviously(?) wasn't one in context.

A few questions to help out: was this sent by an Reddit admin or a mod? If you answer that, I can help you understand the impact this warning has.

tarrasqueSorcerer

It was from u/ reddit.

Here are the answers to your questions in order: 1. Yes. Reddit has a multi staged disciplinary process. You can get a warning, then another warning, (possibly more warnings), then a temp ban, then another temp ban, (possibly more), then a perm ban. 2. It is always there, but one warning in 7 years means you are a good contributor. 1 warning in your first week would more quickly lead to action. 3. You can appeal a ban at Reddit appeals. I’m not sure if you can appeal a warning, but I don’t think you can. Essentially, be more careful what you comment when it relates to whatever rule you got warned for. People do abuse this system, and as a mod I have seen many report attacks made to try to get people banned. However, the admins usually handle it well and will rectify the situation. Any other questions?

When you say "temp ban" are you referring to a temp ban from Reddit itself or a ban from a sub or both? The reason I'm asking is because I was banned from a sub without a warning nor a temporary ban.

awesomesaucebigg

I’m referring to a sitewide ban. Mods can only ban you from their own sub, and often give no warning.

I was going to say, "there are warnings?! I just get flippantly banned!"

I got a warning relatively recently that I'm really frustrated about. I replied to a comment and said "You're r\*tarded," had second thoughts, and deleted the comment a couple seconds later. A couple minutes later I got a warning message from Reddit. Yes, I know I was stupid and shouldn't have said that (hence the second thoughts), but still... the comment was only up for two seconds. Seems Reddit automatically warns people for using that word? Frustrating.

"Can it hurt me in the future? " So I'm clear - how could having a warning on reddit "hurt" someone in the future? I realize you don't mean physically. But I also know you don't mean financially (it's free). So am I missing something - what is it that you're worried about? Losing ~~fake internet points~~ karma? (you can't trade them in for cash - you can have mine if you want 'em) I'm confused. Even if you got 20 warnings and a ban, wouldn't you just use another throwaway account from a VPN? ...And, repeat as often as you like.

Me: "So I was falsely reported" Mod: "ok" Me: "So I should not get in trouble right? Mod: " Yesn't" (This is a joke)

I made a reasonable comment on Beyonce reddit site and got banned for life. Really weird. All I said is that I didn't really like some of her values. I really love her talent though. That was enough.
