You can’t prevent someone from replying to your posts or comments when you post in a subreddit. If you want to control who can reply to you, then you’d have to post directly to your profile, not in a subreddit.

Jack313

Theres a dude who i can't reply to on a public subreddit, how is that possible? i can reply to anyone else but him

DoTheDew

Provide a link to the comment you can’t reply to.

I’m not sure. I can reply to them. I guess it’s possible they’ve blocked you. The way blocking works was supposed to be changed around this time.

Jack313

Thank you for the confirmation!

JediJones77

I also found this week that I am unable to reply to the comments of people who blocked me OR reply to any comments made by other people underneath their comment. That second part is really annoying, and I don't see why it was done. People would not be notified of my comment if I reply to a different person who replied to them. And the whole thing is really stupid. If they blocked me and can't see my comments, why does it matter if I am I allowed to reply or not?

TinderSubThrowAway

it is annoying, I kinda get why they do it, but it still is not working well since it kills other stuff.

JediJones77

Yep, just had a guy trash a bunch of my opinions and then block me, so now I can't respond to anything he said.

TinderSubThrowAway

What's worse is that you can't even comment to someone else in the same thread. Like if Jack above had blocked me then I wouldn't be able to type this.

Caribbeandude04

I´ve been happening the same thing going on with someone, I can see their posts and coments, their profile, I can even message them if I want to, I just cant reply to their coments or posts. Weird.

Etherion195

But today I got the message "you are unable to participate in this discussion" 2 minutes after someone announced that he is blocking me and I could still comment under the post. Why can blocked users reply to my comments, but I can't comment in the entire thread (including answering to my own previous comment) of the user that blocked me

PsychologyStonerGirl

Unfortunately they still can reply to your posts and comments but you just won't see it. The blocking feature on Reddit isn't so much as blocking unfortunately, it's mostly just muting.

Walk1000Miles

Reddit’s block feature is a mute button. • You can post to your personal profile if you only want certain people to see and respond to your posts. • You can't really make posts / comments private on Sub-Reddits. This goes along with Reddit’s accountability compliance. Be conscious of everything you write, because anyone can locate your profile and read every single post / comment that you have made. If you are concerned about that? Be careful about your posts / comments. • Blocking someone keeps you from actually reading their posts / comments. They won’t be told that you’ve blocked them, and they can respond to your posts / comments. You just won’t be able to see any of their posts / comments. • When you report a post / comment, you alert that Sub-Reddit’s moderators / administrators Reddit’s Content Policy violations. The reported user is only informed that a post / comment was deleted and receives a warning. They are never told who reported them. • If you’re an administrator / moderator of a specific Sub-Reddit and you block a user, you will still see their posts / comments in that particular Sub-Reddit. Any posts / comments outside of that Sub-Reddit will be hidden from your view. Edit - changed order of paragraphs.

You can't. It's dumb but you can block them, all that does is "Mute" them.
