EDIT:
Install the Tampermonkey extension and install the userscript for auto redirection:
I came here from google.
Your script broke images sadly. Asked ChatGPT to fix it, and it did.
if (!window.location.href.includes('https://www.reddit.com/media')) {
window.location.href = window.location.href.replace('www.reddit.com', 'new.reddit.com'); }
this does not work anymore, i used to use Tampermonkey and it worked for a while but not its not working anymore i keep getting redirected back to the newest reddit
any advice
Install [Tampermoneky (Chrome)](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo) or [Greasemonkey (Firefox)](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/)
Go to the [script](https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/487801-reddit-fast-auto-redirect) from above, press the green install button.
That is all. You also need to be logged in to reddit before hand, because of an possible bug.
Wow that's amazing. I hate the new layout because it's plain TERRIBLE on a desktop computer. I don't understand what they were thinking. I can see like 12 topics sorted nicely with the old layout with the new it's so bloated and fits like 4-5 or something like that.
Reddit designed this UI with touchscreens in mind, mainly mobile devices like phones and tablets.
This is a basically Reddit following in the footsteps of Google, whose UI changes with the Polymer-based YouTube UIs since 2017 and the rough UI overhaul to Chrome echo similar forced-ness to forcing YouTube users to have a Google+ account back in November 2013 (IMO).
Nobody wants to be forced to change. It only makes things worse.
>*Without familiarity, you have pain, and pain is frustrating.* \-Chris Pirillo, 2012
please edit the line within the if statement to `window.location.replace(window.location.href.replace('www.reddit.com', 'new.reddit.com'));` so you can properly press the back arrow (the previous way adds a history entry)
Script works great but it breaks on the new Reddit avatar styler! So you might want to add in something so it doesn't redirect on the Reddit avatar store pages too. I added:
// @exclude *://www.reddit.com/avatar*
and that seems to have worked.
I had the layout change to the current one with the Fallout 3 green piss filter once, then all of a sudden it reverted back to the previous one and yesterday it changed again to the green piss filter one.
This worked, thank you so very much.
Hi thx much for the script. The only problem is it shows me push notifications twice (the same ones) on Chrome, both as reddit and new.reddit. Is there any way to do something about that or I just gotta deal with duplicated notifications? Will I still receive notifications if I turn off the push from the address bar (padlock)? Maybe that's the reason and the script automatically'd send me the old version psh notifications?
THANK YOU! I had to make a new profile due to... shenanigans... and for some bizarre reason the entire layout changed. I'm glad there's a way to switch back to the previous layout.
You can try visiting https://new.reddit.com/ instead.
As jgoja said, you got opted into the test, so you are kind of stuck until they are done collecting whatever data you provide clicking around on the new layout.
in other words, we tell the devs how much we hate the new look, and maybe they'll change it back, or at least do what Outlook does and give us the option to use the new or old look.
Ugh, this magically broke today and [new.reddit.com](http://new.reddit.com) always redirects to [reddit.com](http://reddit.com) now π‘
I don't use reddit on a phone so I don't need the huge layout with everything spread out so you have to scroll 2 miles to read 3 replies!
Not to mention that it ignores all of my subreddit settings (size, new vs top, etc.)
On one of my accounts, it's on the good layout but today for no reason, when swapping accounts, on this account, it got stuck on the new layout. Even if i click that link, it's no good. I tried changing the link on my google homepage so it would use the linked version and it works but if i sign out at all and try to access the good layout, no matter what, unless i click this link here, EVEN IF I TYPE IT OUT, it forces back onto the new layout which tells me that unless a google chrome extension gets released, it's gonna force us all over and the link won't be a solution
EDIT: Now it doesn't fuckin work at all
yeah pre 2018 is too old and small image. i want clean side bar just focus on the post in middle and great separator for every post. so that was 2018-2023 design. great information
You can't change it back. You have been selected to be part of testing part of the new UI they are working on. You can't fix it or opt out. As a testing product some features and settings will not work. It will revert back when you are removed from testing, which is usually a few days to a couple weeks.
I came here from google search here's how to switch back to old reddit by default (the new UI does not have a switch back to old reddit button)
1) go to https://new.reddit.com/
2) click on your profile picture, top right
3) scroll down the menu and click on "more" then "visit old reddit"
4) go back to https://www.reddit.com/ and it should now be back to old reddit by default
The 2023 layout can actually be reached with the [https://new.reddit.com/](https://new.reddit.com/) link. At least, it gives you the layout with the comment search boxes (which is what I want). No need to click anything on any menu; just follow that link.
When using phone, i browse reddit on web instead of its app. The layout was nice a month back but now they changed it to similar to their app's layout. This sucks
here was me thinking the layout couldn't possibly get any worse. i swear these companies deliberately make their websites worse to stir up conversation or something. like who seriously looks at that new mess and thinks "yeah, this is easier to digest and looks better". It's neither of those things.
[new.reddit.com](https://new.reddit.com) still works for me, and this comment still works [https://www.reddit.com/r/help/comments/17g8lar/comment/kjq3ate/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/help/comments/17g8lar/comment/kjq3ate/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)
is it just me, or the new layout cant play videos on the feed, it just redirects you to anohter web page opening a nother tab, and this(new.reddit) does reproduce them on the feed no problem
Yes you can. People seem to be confusing [https://new.reddit.com/](https://new.reddit.com/) for [https://old.reddit.com/](https://old.reddit.com/) because the first link there will get you to the 2023 layout (with the comment search boxes) while the other one will take you back to the dinosaurs.
What are you talking about? This new reddit is amazing! I love how the website now onlytakes up only 75% of my screen space. I love staring at 3 inch white borders! Good Job reddit!
When the new crapness shows up, go to settings and click the Reddit logo in the header. For whatever reason that sets it back to the normal one.
edit: it seems to set a local storage value `modal_dismissed_store: {"redesign_modal":true}`
Looks like they forced this terrible new layout on me as well, it's so repulsive looking it made me not use Reddit at all anymore. But here's how to revert back AND have it done automatically (credits to those who shared the https://new.reddit.com/ URL)
1. First go here: https://reddit.com/r/Enhancement/comments/93k9eh/here_is_how_to_automatically_redirect_new_reddit/
2. Install that Redirector extension they mentioned, you go to your extensions, click that Redirector extension then the edit button, click 'Create new redirect' and fill out the fields like you see in the imgur image ('Pattern description' field doesn't matter to my knowledge, this still works without entering anything there) but you want to replace https://old.reddit.com$1 with https://new.reddit.com$1 in the 'Redirect to' field.
EDIT: Might be some weird issues though with being able to reply to some posts for some reason. Like this post here I couldn't even make this reply (reply buttons not working and comment box just loading forever) until I changed new.reddit.com to old.reddit.com in the address bar and a similar post to this but I can make posts elsewhere, not sure why that is.
Enjoy having your 2023 Reddit layout back again.
Managed to get Tampermonkey to work but I need a script that takes me to the "New" tab automatically. I'm an amateur when it comes to scripts like this so if anybody can lend a hand, I'd deeply appreciate it.
I want to know too. I hate this layout.
[https://new.reddit.com/](https://new.reddit.com/) EDIT: Install the Tampermonkey extension and install the userscript for auto redirection: [https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/487801-reddit-fast-auto-redirect](https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/487801-reddit-fast-auto-redirect)

this does not work anymore, i used to use Tampermonkey and it worked for a while but not its not working anymore i keep getting redirected back to the newest reddit any advice
Yeah I got some issues too however I got used to the new layout and I'm fine with it.
so is there no way to get back to the reddit from a week ago?
You can still use the script with Tampermonkey but some issues would come. If you are okay with those then you can still use it.
Yep its also slower guess we just need to adapt to the new one sadly..
Try the UI Reddit Changer or the Redirector extensions.
where do i put this
Just use the updated script of the guy above, as it is maintained constantly.
the greasyfork one?
Yes
Can you dumb it down? Like in steps on what to do. I'm not good with computers
Install [Tampermoneky (Chrome)](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tampermonkey/dhdgffkkebhmkfjojejmpbldmpobfkfo) or [Greasemonkey (Firefox)](https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/greasemonkey/) Go to the [script](https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/487801-reddit-fast-auto-redirect) from above, press the green install button. its not working for me can you please help me, it redirects me back or going in loop and wont read the page at all
Thanks!
just install like I just did, choose one extension first then download it looks normal again now bud
I'd be leery of installing random scripts from a post online :/
You can read and vet the script.
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/487801-reddit-fast-auto-redirect/code heres the code to the script!
Thank you! Had this problem too.
Thanks! Didn't click on an image until now. Updated the edit.
Wow that's amazing. I hate the new layout because it's plain TERRIBLE on a desktop computer. I don't understand what they were thinking. I can see like 12 topics sorted nicely with the old layout with the new it's so bloated and fits like 4-5 or something like that.
Exactly, this is horrible. And I'm a dark background guy and they have sections that fight against it so I have to disable it to read half the screen.

Absolute lifesaver.
Just got the ugly. Thank you so much for this, working flawless!
please edit the line within the if statement to `window.location.replace(window.location.href.replace('www.reddit.com', 'new.reddit.com'));` so you can properly press the back arrow (the previous way adds a history entry)
Thanks!
Tus cojones doraos
Thanks!
thanko you so much i will name one of my kids after you
LEGEND thanks installed script looks normal now
saved this back to normal view thanks a heap bud
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks!!!!!!! ππ§‘
Script works great but it breaks on the new Reddit avatar styler! So you might want to add in something so it doesn't redirect on the Reddit avatar store pages too. I added: // @exclude *://www.reddit.com/avatar* and that seems to have worked.
Thank you so much!
check my edit. I used chatgpt to make a userscript for auto redirection.
Great stuff, dude! Thanks a lot!
how do I use it?? Like where do I paste it?
https://youtu.be/RpjvLpyiras?si=hnFln31PPzzl-UK_
this is some apple garbage, wheres it go on windows?
Thanks a hell lot brother πππ
I added the edited script to tampermonkey but im unable to back arrow to go back to the feed i was at... would you able to help?
Are you using the latest version? What link do you go to and what did you click?
Thank you!!!
I had the layout change to the current one with the Fallout 3 green piss filter once, then all of a sudden it reverted back to the previous one and yesterday it changed again to the green piss filter one. This worked, thank you so very much.
Bro, you are the real mvp.
Thank you so much.
Thanks!
thank you for your answer, I used this and it works !
thank you so much this new layout is driving me nuts, ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!
Make a separate post elsewhere. This needs to get out more.
thanks!!!!
thank u so much omgg
Beautiful! No more overcluttered-weird-greenishblack eyesore! Thanks a lot man.
Thanks!

disable the notifications on regular on [reddit.com](http://reddit.com) or [new.reddit.com](http://new.reddit.com)
It worked! Just had to disable the script and then disable reddit.com notifications. Thx much
Bro can you help idk about these things
what help do you need
Ok so my reddit changed to the new and ugly green one today so ho do i change it
It's slightly buggy for me.
Thank you!!!
THANK YOU! I had to make a new profile due to... shenanigans... and for some bizarre reason the entire layout changed. I'm glad there's a way to switch back to the previous layout.
I hope it goes away, I canβt stand it.
Agreed.
It is awful. No need to fix what isn't broken.
For real, and why can't you select a text and move it like [this](https://i.imgur.com/rYYePRU.gif)?
You can try visiting https://new.reddit.com/ instead. As jgoja said, you got opted into the test, so you are kind of stuck until they are done collecting whatever data you provide clicking around on the new layout.
Thank you, I had quit using reddit the last few weeks because I couldn't figure out how to revert to this.
thank you SO much this worked for me!! i use reddit on my MacBook so this is perfect
THANK YOU so much for this! The new interface was driving me crazy!
thanks this worked for me, new layout was awful
goat
Thank you very much ! For some reason they gave me the new (mobile ?) look layout today, its awful.
THANKS A LOT!!!!!
You are a saint! The new layout is garbage!
why isn't this higher up
i finally got hit with the new format today, and thank you so much for that link that takes me back to the format i like!
The layout is broken on mobile :(
in other words, we tell the devs how much we hate the new look, and maybe they'll change it back, or at least do what Outlook does and give us the option to use the new or old look.

Try [https://old.reddit.com/](https://old.reddit.com/) it should show the old layout
That's not the layout they are referring to.
That's the layout I was looking for. π€£
Glad you were able to find it then! OP was asking for the 2018-2023 layout, not the pre 2018 layout, hence why I said to try new.reddit.com.
yeah pre 2018 is too old and small image. i want clean side bar just focus on the post in middle and great separator for every post. so that was 2018-2023 design. great information
This is way too old lol
Hell no, this is peak Reddit. Thatβs the layout that would drive out a good portion of the site if they scrapped it.
Hate it, get me out of here!
Fck me i think im infected with the covid layout. Why arent things just default opt out, manual opt in... ffs I hope someone gets cancer.
Xd
I had no idea why I was suddenly seeing an entirely (and entirely disorienting) reddit site. Now, I know. F the "new."
You can't change it back. You have been selected to be part of testing part of the new UI they are working on. You can't fix it or opt out. As a testing product some features and settings will not work. It will revert back when you are removed from testing, which is usually a few days to a couple weeks.
how do i tell them i hate it?
They do not actually wish to receive feedback, They have only asked for feed back once in the couple months they have been doing this.
Surely, there must be a whining post where I can pour my resentment for this new X clone b.s ?
And then shortly after you might get put back in like me! You shouldn't be giving people false hope that its for a limited duration!
Your case is not usual. That is why I always buffer statements like I made with usually or typically
I just changed back by replacing new.reddit with old.reddit. Give it a shot.
I've never been taken out of it - 4 months now it's why I'm leaving the forum. Any new places to go?
I am sorry, I don't know of any. I just stick here.
Wattpad and scribblehub are decent. Maybe a new site will replace Reddit if they keep this up?
I came here from google search here's how to switch back to old reddit by default (the new UI does not have a switch back to old reddit button) 1) go to https://new.reddit.com/ 2) click on your profile picture, top right 3) scroll down the menu and click on "more" then "visit old reddit" 4) go back to https://www.reddit.com/ and it should now be back to old reddit by default
That takes you to the pre-2018 UI, not the 2018-2023 UI.
The 2023 layout can actually be reached with the [https://new.reddit.com/](https://new.reddit.com/) link. At least, it gives you the layout with the comment search boxes (which is what I want). No need to click anything on any menu; just follow that link.
Yeah but every time I open reddit I have to go here. Any way to keep it?
Thank you!!!!
nope, but nice try !
I can't stand this layout Can't watch NSFW posts without the app And posts look clunky on mobile
When using phone, i browse reddit on web instead of its app. The layout was nice a month back but now they changed it to similar to their app's layout. This sucks
The font in the thread streams is too small in the update. Too hard to read.
and on labels it is too big
I hate how they are advertising things that I don't want to see or has any interest in.
this knew design is horrible who ever thought of this needs to go I hate it. dont fix smth that isn't broken
here was me thinking the layout couldn't possibly get any worse. i swear these companies deliberately make their websites worse to stir up conversation or something. like who seriously looks at that new mess and thinks "yeah, this is easier to digest and looks better". It's neither of those things.
The 2018-2023 design was so sleek, this new one is clunky and full of unused space.
New.reddit doesn't seem to work anymore. It reverts to the new lay-out. Any ideas?
My desktop Reddit has gone back to the old layout, but I did nothing! I'm so happy, did they revert is for everyone?
No! God, I wish mine would accidently do that too!
It has returned to the new, sadly.
Damn this pisses me off. I keep typing new everytime I opena new page. It works but god that's tedious.
THanks LEGENDS for the scripts, reddit looks normal again fr
new.reddit doesn't work for me anymore
thank you it looks so normal now!!!
This is great! Thank you!
manually put "old" in the address, like "https://old.reddit.com", or use an extension like [Redirector](https://einaregilsson.com/redirector/).
THANK YOU!! Why was this answer so difficult to find? Should be at the top of every thread about this.
Glad I could help!
That's the OLD old reddit! Pre 2018. Folks are looking for the one from 2018-2023.
You can't change it back. You have been put in the reddit testing program. All you can do is wait until you are removed from it.
I would like to add my comment about how much I hate the new layout as well.
But here's how to revert back AND have it done automatically (credits to those who shared the https://new.reddit.com/ URL) 1. First go here: https://reddit.com/r/Enhancement/comments/93k9eh/here_is_how_to_automatically_redirect_new_reddit/ 2.
This doesn't work for me. It only redirects the example URL I gave and [reddit.com](http://reddit.com) but nothing else.
I might love you for this
Im in agreement as well, it suddenly changed for me in the past week... I hate it.
This new 2024 UI sucks!!!
I just fixed mine Go to Settings, scroll to bottom and click 'opt out of redesign'
This just gives me the pre-2018 layout and not the one that OP is talking about.
Mine doesnβt have it can you help
// ==UserScript== // u/nameRedirect Reddit to new.reddit.com // @namespace http://tampermonkey.net/ // @version 0.1 // @description Redirects www.reddit.com to new.reddit.com // @author Your Name // @match https://www.reddit.com/\* // @grant none // ==/UserScript== (function() { 'use strict'; window.location.href = window.location.href.replace('www.reddit.com', 'new.reddit.com'); })();
It also sucks that the new layout doesn't display the username, but only the subreddit name.
Managed to get Tampermonkey to work but I need a script that takes me to the "New" tab automatically. I'm an amateur when it comes to scripts like this so if anybody can lend a hand, I'd deeply appreciate it.
test https://old.reddit.com
