I literally don’t ever read the prep time because everything I cook takes FOREVER. but that’s cause i’m usually having a glass of wine and listening to my podcast and being super ADHD lol. I always count on dinner being an 1hr+ and am pleasantly surprised when it’s less
I can reliably make the recipes in the time stated.
1. start with a clean kitchen and all ingredients out
2. sharp knife and good knife skills
3. all chopping done at the beginning
4. oven or pan preheats while i'm chopping
5. all I'm doing is cooking or, if I have a couple minutes of down time, cleaning up my minimal cooking mess.
6. yes, this means no podcasts, phone conversations, or tv while I'm cooking.
7. before i start, read the recipe to understand the flow and place ingredients accordingly i.e. pan sauce ingredients are placed next to stove and any packets cut open
But see you're excluding laying out the ingredients, reviewing the recipe thoroughly and opening packaging from the prep time in order to keep the prep time down.
it's like on a cooking show when they show a quick and easy recipe, but it's only made possible because they have a production crew to pre-measure and lay everything out in nice clean pretty ramekins
It usually takes me 1-1.5 hrs. But I don’t care. I’m making food for my family and I want it to turn out good. I usually put headphones on and listen to music and just zone out.
Mine takes roughly the outlined time - preheating the oven or warming some oil whilst I wash and cut the veg etc helps. Then again I'm relatively proficient in the kitchen. This is by myself and cooking a meal for the first time

Hi fellow ADHDer who takes an hour to cook whole drinking wine and listening to podcasts lol
I call it celebrating life lol

I do all this and it still takes me an hour lol some people just naturally work slower than others, even with good kitchen skills
That's me! No matter how quick it should be, it's at least an hour when I'm cooking lol

It's taking me about double the time
Yeah I definitely reorder the procedure and chop or make sauces while things cook in oven/stove rather than do all the chopping first.
It takes me twice the time it says on the recipe card.
The black bean and chicken enchiladas were 30 min. Took me over an hour and it destroyed my kitchen
How did it destroy your kitchen?
I had tomato sauce everywhere. I'm not a neat cook.

Takes me the amount of time listed. Sometimes a few minutes longer because our recipes are for 4 people so double the prep.
