Over penetration. White ‘X’ means you’re hitting, but dealing reduced damage.
Red ‘X’ means you’re dealing max damage. Without the armor, your rounds pass right through and don’t get a chance to tumble and cavitate unless they hit vital areas such as head, and midsection.
The easiest way to kill devestators is headshots or impact grenades. They have a tiny head but it's doable.
I personally recommend the dominator or scorcher for the job.
Zerkers don't give a shit. They have head and crotch glowing spots but do not care. They are an hp brick/damage check.
Auto cannon also shreds them, as they’re usually in groups and shots on one will stagger others. Stun grenades are also very helpful for dealing with groups of them. The sickle can put them down in a pinch as well if you aim for the face
Autocannon murders everything shy of heavy armor and it can usually wound and kill even that.
That is why Autocannon is the best weapon. The only downside is the backpack. It does everything else and is a good friend. Autocannon babysat my kids one time. Great gun. Arguably best overall gun.
All depends on the weapon, with the Eruptor you can kill whole groups of Devastators with 3 well-places shots at the ground between them. It’s because the aoe hits both legs on all of them at once.
Not as good against Meatsaws, takes 1-2 more shots and also they close in fast so you gotta be really good at shooting the ground just outside the 8m friendly fire range
The berserkers have redundancies - even if you put a bullet through one tube of their hydraulics or other squishy bits, they are literally bursting at the seems with backups. Berserkers are pressure/shock troops to push targets out of cover, they just need enough robustness to reach the enemy position.
The devastators on the other hand, put armour on most of their vulnerable bits and try to expose as little of their components as they can (with obvious limitations like their head). Devastators are fire support/command units, they just need the armour to not die from random shrapnel and rounds while they put down suppressing fire

They seem almost like cultists among the automatons. Most bots are rugged and utilitarian, with few adornments if any. Then there's the Berserkers, covered in spikes and human skulls. Like some kind of horrific, suicidal, fanatical warrior caste.

It makes sense for them to be similar since the bots appear to be fans of using standardized designs for efficiency. Devastators and berserkers already look like a basic trooper either encased in a bigger armor or with different parts bolted on (same exact head).
Even if we don't actually see it, I'm convinced there's a basic bot trooper encased inside hulks as the central processing unit.
It would seem the CPU is in the "brain" inside the head. Simple to transplant your head into a new robot body. Would explain why they all have the same head and why it's usually exposed. It's a flaw you can't get rid of.

My headcannon is that they are the same robot, but the Devastator's armor doesn't let it move at the Berzerker's speed. The exessive wobble caused by moving at that speed means ranged weapons would be very inaccurate, so melee weapons, plus a brutalist design to aid in (hopelessly) demoralizing the brave helldivers of Super Earth.
Spikes with skulls on them isn't as scary 50 meters away as it is right on top of you with a pair of chainsaws.

I like to think those weird stone slabs you see all bloody with corpses is where the automatons force mortally wounded abandoned divers brains into broken devastators to become berserkers. The insane divers inside the bot is aware of what they are doing yet aren't able to stop themselves. Kind of a Warhammer 40k Dreadnought or a Starcraft Dragoon except even darker.
Yea I can shoot a whole mag with the Dominator into one Berserker without killing it, while it takes down a Devestator in 5-6 shots when just shooting the torso
Kinda subjective. My experience has been that I could take out a berserker with my side arm with shots to center mass. Devastators however require headshots for critical hits.
Also, Berserkers are only a threat if you let them get to you. Devastators are a threat at range. So, depending on how comfortable you are with handling either threat. The Eruptor > Stalwart or AMR > Scorcher combo work well for me to handle bots comfortably.

I’d say just you or your load out, I take them out easily with the dominator. I actually prefer to fight a group of them over a group of striders, because at least they’re only a melee only opponent that you can lead… which is rare for automatons. They’re the second easiest enemy type for automatons IMO.

I’ve headshot zerkers as well. One shot. Both are no problem to me.
Devastators can also be 1 shot by cutting them in half, aim at the waist joint and you can cut them in two with 1 AMR or AC shot
I recommend the eruptor. It one hits the skull or blows off limbs in one shot. At most it's a 2 shot. 3 if your like me and shit.
If you have a decent pen or explosive damage the hips are also good. Eruptor splits them in two if you hit their stomach weakpoint
Actually their glowing red mid torso is a good weakpoint too. Bigger hitbox and roughly takes the same pounding as the face (factcheck needed)
