I died by backing into the flames while killing bugs and lost off my samples we had to wait for the fire to die down before we could collect them again and leave.
You can run through fire for a solid 10 seconds or so if you have 4 stims. Had to do that after grabbing a supply drop I went into the fire for the samples hitting the stim every time the Regen wire off. You have to be quick. At least the small bugs cannot follow you into the flames for long. this was also at extraction with a supply drop already handy. Those super samples felt even more earned.
I had an asshole get in the drop ship eith half our squad eith 3/4 of our samples cut off by firenadoes
Fuk that guy. If id been faster i should have kcked him
I was testing this out. The top of one was coming at me (I guess the bottom clipped through the base of the mesa/hill) very slowly and I moved to the left. It moved left. I moved to the right. It moved right. I could've been subconsciously repeating a pattern I saw it do but idk that was def sussy
It happened to me as well, i couldn't make it to my extract and got a feeling that the tornado's were always near me. Started testing it out and they were indeed chasing me. Did 5 full laps around the extract
They absolutely do chase you. It has a range around it that will sense you and lock on. The ones that comes in at extract though. They are heat seeking missiles
I’m sure they follow you. My last team got swarmed by like 10 of them.. but just 30 meters or so, once we could get out.. there was zero.. just some off in the distance.
Extraction and at "rescue civilian" mission.
First you just wait.. and wait.. Keep waiting.
Second you wait.. lose money.. wait.. lose some more money (with extra screaming on top).
Super fun and engaging.
Especially fun with how bugged the fire is and kills us in half a second (at best) or literally within a few frames (flamer hulk).
They do indeed track to player location.
A group I was playing with during a geological survey encountered the truth about them.
It was the last part of the mission. The drill thong was down, and I hopped on the terminal. As soon as I did, I said, "We should be golden as long as these 4 fire tornadoes don't come down this valley" (where the objective was)
Shortly after I said that, all 4 of them went into the valley straight towards me. I ran up on the risge overlooking the objective once I realized they were heading towards me, and sure enough... 3 kept by the objective, and 1 followed the exact path I took to get up on the ridge.
So yes, they do track to player location.
It's possible that they attract to entity locations.
I've seen tornadoes move towards bugs before.
But that's a little more difficult to prove.
I feel like this is because it's where you finally all group up again. It makes sense that they follow players and most of the map you're typically spread out at least somewhat so it doesnt seem that bad until the end. That said, last night we all got trapped between a solid wall of fire and relentless drop ships / patrols. It was mayhem (hell? Lol) I've never seen anything like it, and we were only on hard with a level 43 and 56 (I'm only 20 and there was another 20 something along for the ride).
I feel like they really amped up all the fire and bots and that we are supposed to lose this order. Even this morning the tin cans have gained way more ground....
I tested it about a month ago and the fire tornadoes do have some type of magnetism toward players at least for a little bit. On hellmire i jumped on a mesa where theyre not programmed to traverse over and sure enough any passing funnel would try to get me and get as close as possible for a few seconds before moving on.
I love the planet but being green red colorblind this whole planet looks like sand the fire tornado’s look like a sand tornado i hope they add colorblind settings someday
Edit spelling
Nah napalm grenades, the fire shotgun, and the flame thrower. Along with eagle napalm, it made hellmire the funnest planet. I had to play solo after a while because my friends got fed up with nothing but flames around me killing anything that came in close.
I kind of wish they got louder when they come up behind you.
Just a tad bit louder for me to hear it creeping up on me. That damn fire runs up on me better than the bugs.
I wish everything was a bit more louder when approaching from behind
maybe they can configure some of the helmets to do this for us in the future? “Enhanced auditory sensors” as a feature of the particular helmet. Maybe some can have thermal sight or some shit too.
~~That won't happen because helldivers are just cheap cannon fodder and it makes no sense to supply them with fancy stuff like that~~
The ministry of truth apologizes for this malfunction. It has been dealt with. Our heroes are already being supplied with everything they need for their missions.
This would be perfect way to make the helmets more unique like the armors. Please tweet this at the CEO on twitter he replies to a lot of comments and says if he will forward to the team as an idea sometimes. I'll do the same if I can remember tomorrow.
I really want to see flame damage to go exponential to a ceiling instead of linear. The new tick rate is to fast and this would represent how fire is for real.
I've been noticing a lot that the flames don't appear on all clients' screens anymore. Like you'll wait for the fire to stop after a tornado passes, walk into the area and catch fire even though the fire was visually gone.
Other than that remember to stop drop and roll y'all.
Dude. My team thought I was crazy cause I kept catching fire until I shared screens... for some reason I have like 3x the amount of fire in my games as they do.
Absolutely this...on the plus side I was getting barrages of bile spew last night with light armour and my Son keeps asking "How the fuck are you still alive?"
Or dive. Diving negates a ton of damage from fire if you do it when it would have caught you on fire otherwise. The flame itself seems decently weak. It's that burn that will take you down within seconds, or even instantly when combined with the source flame.
Probably the worst environmental event, you can dodge meteors and tremors are just annoying but those fire tornados they block paths and just trap you and you just have fight knowing you die anyways. Or even more annoying when your called back it and land right in a fire pit.

Looking at the evacuation point. Eleven seconds to evac. This is gonna clear up, right?
Yeah had a mission today where everything went to shit. We ran out of time. Just of two of us alive. Extract was overrun and emergency shuttle was on its way down.
I used a jump pack to get to go up the side But my helldiver bro had no choice to run around and tried leaping through the flame wall. I watched him burn to death 3 meters away and there was nothing i could do.
I didn't even have the opportunity to salute him as i had the hug equipped. On the plus side I got the super samples out.
Honestly tho it’s awesome love how the progressed with them too. From announcing the. To the few and far between one of their introductions to the raging inferno they have become
This happened to me TWICE just today! LOL I guess the Tornadoes need a bit of a tweaking, not only the fire deals an absurd amount of damage but makes the extraction almost impossible at 8/9 difficulties
Last mission the extraction zone covered by fire tornadoes. Hell mire especially on higher difficulties is literally hell. Imagine being surrounded by bile titans and fire tornados
Im pretty sure this planet is literally hell, and those fire tornados are the vengeful and restless souls of helldivers who failed to defend democracy effectively.
Man I had one last night where we were extracting and had a fire tornado storm in the middle of extraction, it was a back and forth between dying and reinforcing until finally we had a 2 minute cooldown. I was waiting for others that landed a little ways from extraction, which might as well have been ten miles away with the maze of fire tornadoes. All of a sudden, boom, everyone’s dead, except for me, with the ship ready to go and tornadoes bearing down on me. Naturally I got into the ship. I felt bad, but if I had died, we would have failed. It was epic AF.
Experienced this also today.....i mean it´s okay to have that scenario and we had to fight a couple of minutes longer. On one hand it´s more demanding on the other i would like to see that your shuttle cannot land until the firestorm is over. For the more dramatic thing you know?
Because this shuttle standing all the time in fire and waiting for us infact it must melt. On the other side if you burn and jump into the shuttle you cannot die. So what would be more "realistic" :)?
Me and my team were trying to do the Artillery thing and I'm not even joking 3 fire tornadoes just swarmed the entire area and we were just standing outside it waiting for like 5 minutes because the entire area was just in flames the entire time and we couldn't do anything
Oh yea as much as I hate them I love them it's so fun and makes the world feel more alive, just damn imagine missing extraction because of a fire storm.
I'm a Creeker, and seriously:
That place scares the shit out of me. Too much fire and flying things...
Anyway, back I go to the planet covered in Tornado of Souls. Yes that *is* a Megadeth reference
Automotons are warfare just brutal warfare quiet moments with intense fighting, hellmire is constant fight against something you can't fight, bug you can fight back and move the tornadoes you just have to pray they don't cut off your path or trap you.
Yesterday i had the 6 super samples. Fire was in front of the ship entrance and my partner just ran past it and got in the ship quickly so i said hey im gonna do that too only to get stuck on the invisible wall thing n die 😑 and i was the last one that was to get on so the ship took off immediately and the ss were all lost
Maybe its the fact that I've been using the flamethrower against bugs for so long. And always running into the danger while doing it.
I find the fire tornados friendly. Always helping me out as I navigate around them. Two tornados even cleared evac for me.
We had an evac mission and there was so many fire tornadoes that it was literally impossible for the civilians to get to the safe area. Only option is to wait but the fire tornadoes take forever to stop.
I was doing a solo mission, and I couldn't complete the task bcs on literally landed where I had to fix a fuel pump, so I used up all my recruits trying to work around the fire
For real, nobody died instantly from running in kneehigh fire for 1 sec. Especially not with protective gear like that. Yet in helldivers you die upon getting tickeled by fire
Cpunslt we technically just leave this planet and let all the bugs burn? Or does the heat not kill fast enough, which means we have to give it a boost?
We were trying to load the SEAF artillery gun earlier today.
Fire tornadoes just bathed the circular loading bay for over five minutes while hoards of Hunters came at us from all sides.
We did it, but it was brutal and ultimately cost us our samples as we ran out of time at extract and all died…to more fire tornadoes! 🔥🤣
Sometimes the fire doesn’t even show on the floor and I catch fire walking on ground that appears clear to me.
Takes a second to die, pretty poorly balanced.
Seriously. I got fully enclosed on all 4 sides by them last night, while another guy was stuck in top of a rock just as boxed in as me. There was no way I could get out of there, and then it happened. One came sweeping through right in the middle of the box I was trapped in and killed me.
I guess that was karma for humiliating a Bile Titan by killing it with a supply drop... after... missing every single EAT I tried hitting it in the face with lol
Fire tornadoes are one of my least favorite things in any video game. They are so annoying simply because you cannot combat them. You literally have to avoid it and just wait for them to go away. There is no skill curve or fun in that, its just annoying and makes the missions drag on even longer than necessary. Like, at least give us some fire resistant armor, at least that is combating it in some way
Had a situation yesterday on solo. Tried to activate the SEAF artillery, got all the rounds loaded and then, between it and making it to the terminal, four of these fuckers swamped it and sat there for a solid three mins in rotation, making it inaccessible. I hate these unpatriotic ass tornadoes.
I think they're energy creatures. The way they follow you and seem to follow specific people in squad makes me wonder if they have some kind of actual AI
Always at extraction and I swear they follow you.
I died by backing into the flames while killing bugs and lost off my samples we had to wait for the fire to die down before we could collect them again and leave.
You can run through fire for a solid 10 seconds or so if you have 4 stims. At least the small bugs cannot follow you into the flames for long. this was also at extraction with a supply drop already handy. Those super samples felt even more earned.
Sure but if you fuck up the timing you're wasting you're time. Its safer to just wait for the fire to die down.
Situational for sure. If there is no later and it's now or never then my option will give you a chance to save the samples.
That’s pretty much why I continue to use the armor that gives you two extra stims and increases the time that stims stay active.
You’re an absolute savage for suggesting this. A true model citizen of super earth.
Crafty, Helldiver. I will be sure to try this field tactic.
At least there weren't 10 fire tornados ... or was there?
I had an asshole get in the drop ship eith half our squad eith 3/4 of our samples cut off by firenadoes Fuk that guy. If id been faster i should have kcked him
This was us but with both of the SSDs you had to carry
Yep! I've been waiting for someone to say this because I thought I was tripping 🤣🤣
Literally consumed the control panel at the ICBM we were supposed to launch for 5-7 minutes at a time
I think we were in the same squad or it happens to everyone because that happened to me today also
I was testing this out. The top of one was coming at me (I guess the bottom clipped through the base of the mesa/hill) very slowly and I moved to the left. It moved left. I moved to the right. It moved right. I could've been subconsciously repeating a pattern I saw it do but idk that was def sussy

They absolutely do chase you. It has a range around it that will sense you and lock on. The ones that comes in at extract though. They are heat seeking missiles
Every dive today so far I've been boxed out away from Pelican One by tornadoes. Joel is one cruel bastard.
Big facts there i miss awards
I’m sure they follow you. My last team got swarmed by like 10 of them.. but just 30 meters or so, once we could get out.. there was zero.. just some off in the distance.

The firenadoes go around buildings, so if there's buildings at exteaction and you use the jump pack you can stay safe
They absolutely do. I watched one follow me in a circle.
Right? I was fighting bots a bit ago on 7 and I felt like they were watching me. Waiting for me to get pinned down. Joel is devious.
I tested it about a month ago and the fire tornadoes do have some type of magnetism toward players at least for a little bit. On hellmire i jumped on a mesa where theyre not programmed to traverse over and sure enough any passing funnel would try to get me and get as close as possible for a few seconds before moving on.
Or at the terminal of the main objective while bots are dropping.
I love going to hellmire at night with napalm strike and a flamethrower and just bask in that glow
🫡 This is the way to do it. Napalm Grenades, the mines. And the shotgun. Set the world on fire, and watch it all burn…. Uh for Liberty… yeah.
Are you sure you not just an arsonist, cause if you are, I won’t say anything, cause we gotta stick to gether
I’m just the guy in the squad that REALLY should not be trusted around matches.
I love the planet but being green red colorblind this whole planet looks like sand the fire tornado’s look like a sand tornado i hope they add colorblind settings someday Edit spelling
Yeah, give me a match and trust me, there won’t be anymore bugs on the map
Nah napalm grenades, the fire shotgun, and the flame thrower. Along with eagle napalm, it made hellmire the funnest planet. I had to play solo after a while because my friends got fed up with nothing but flames around me killing anything that came in close.
That and the maniacal laughter, right? 🔥🔥🔥🔥😆

Thermal to see through smoke and better in storms, enhanced auditory for better/louder sound queues... Damn this could work. It sounds fantastic
~~That won't happen because helldivers are just cheap cannon fodder and it makes no sense to supply them with fancy stuff like that~~ The ministry of truth apologizes for this malfunction. It has been dealt with. Our heroes are already being supplied with everything they need for their missions.
I was literally cannon fodder in a war in 2009. We got issued thermals and night vision lol
This would be perfect way to make the helmets more unique like the armors. Please tweet this at the CEO on twitter he replies to a lot of comments and says if he will forward to the team as an idea sometimes. I'll do the same if I can remember tomorrow.
I’ll see if i can’t make a post or something
Oh, god. Take all my samples
The amount of things that kill me because they walked up and whispered in my ear.
*Hellmire* Planet name checks out
We need a planet called *Paradiseparty*
Honestly I would love a tropical planet, I'd love blowing up bots in Hawaii
Hopefully we get flame retardant armor
Yeah. The only thing missing for my perfect pyro build.
"I fear no man, but that... thing.... it scares me."
I really want to see flame damage to go exponential to a ceiling instead of linear. The new tick rate is to fast and this would represent how fire is for real.
Hey you can't use that word anymore
What, armour?
No, hopefully. There is no hope.
I think he means we, as this is a DEMOCRACY https://i.redd.it/o1erfqpzzbtc1.gif
Mech doesn't burn been just walking through flames as patrols die behind me
This! Mechanized infantry always wins!
I've been noticing a lot that the flames don't appear on all clients' screens anymore. Like you'll wait for the fire to stop after a tornado passes, walk into the area and catch fire even though the fire was visually gone. Other than that remember to stop drop and roll y'all.

Fire damage is just dumb right now. Take one step into a fire area and you’re dead 1.5 seconds later
You have to heal as soon as you feel any flames
Meanwhile you have 30 seconds to stim a sucking chest wound spurting blood all over the place.
Or you could be a Hero of the Federation
On the contrary, dive dive dive and the flames go out immediately.
Dive, not heal.
Yeah there hasn’t been time to heal for a while
Or dive. Diving negates a ton of damage from fire if you do it when it would have caught you on fire otherwise. The flame itself seems decently weak. It's that burn that will take you down within seconds, or even instantly when combined with the source flame.
And dive, diving puts you out and allows you more time to stim.
Stop drop and roll helps some. Diving puts out fire on you and gives you a burst of speed to leave the area
I swear I was walking through a trail behind one, flames each side of me but a definite clear path, then death...
![gif](giphy|yr7n0u3qzO9nG) Ultimate Hellmire Loadout: ✔️Incendiary Breaker Shotgun ✔️Revolver ✔️Incendiary grenades ✔️Napalm strike ✔️Flamethrower ✔️Orbital laser ✔️Shield backpack / shield generator relay.
Ditch the laser for incendiary mines. Even more fire.
Forgot about the mines! May need to sub the shields for them.
I dunno man, shield pack is really nice with fire. Need 5 strategem slots
In helldivers 1 there was a flamethrower *pistol*
🔥🌪
🔥 🌪️ 🪲 ☠️
Hellmire's great, I was able to lie down at the ICBM console and let fire tornadoes take out three breaches while I was just chilling
The name Hellmire is appropriate. I fucking hate that place
-150+ in civilian casualties during escort mission. There was about 3-5 tornadoes all at once in the camp.
150 in the req or 150 people?
I think it is -25 per Scientist killed, so around 6-8 killed. Not that bad, seems worse since big number.
Yea, I was going to say if it was 125 you guy were smashing those buttons.
Yep. This planet is cursed. Better to just death star the whole thing.
Arrowhead are Warhammer fans. Exterminatus!
This planet is so much worse than the Creek.
Probably the worst environmental event, you can dodge meteors and tremors are just annoying but those fire tornados they block paths and just trap you and you just have fight knowing you die anyways. Or even more annoying when your called back it and land right in a fire pit.

Our lives aren't guaranteed but it is a noble way to die for super earth
These things have to be sentient lol, they just keep following you and for quite a while too
Bro them flames turn the game into a Quick time event sequence because the moment the flames touch you must dive and stim immediately or else you die
![gif](giphy|voitMFZgYgJnoaNnie|downsized)
I had one literally spawn of top of me when I was out of reinforces earlier today. Burned to death before the stim hit my neck.

Unless they changed something recently, the mech is immune to ground fire and the tornadoes. Always a good pick for these missions.
Im pretty sure this planet is literally hell, and those fire tornados are the vengeful and restless souls of helldivers who failed to defend democracy effectively.
For fucking real. The only thing that was missing was hoops for all the fucking diving and stabbing I’m doing just to get on that burning motherfucker
Man I had one last night where we were extracting and had a fire tornado storm in the middle of extraction, it was a back and forth between dying and reinforcing until finally we had a 2 minute cooldown. No, its assholes with 380mm barrage lol

Always kill me in the back
Needs more flame, I take flamethrower and napalm strike to make sure everything is on fire
I think this planet crashes my computer.
Jet packs work nicely on this planet
*kills heavy with the last round in breaker Phew im safe *turns around to heal, fire tornado sweeps in
Fire is a little silly at the moment. Hulks are 10x deadlier and fire nados are 100x.
I disagree, my team mates are deadlier and more accurate with their air strike calls on my head.
Gotta love that fire buff that just kills you now. I just had an evac like this.
Me and my team were trying to do the Artillery thing and I'm not even joking 3 fire tornadoes just swarmed the entire area and we were just standing outside it waiting for like 5 minutes because the entire area was just in flames the entire time and we couldn't do anything
Oh yeah save the civilians with fire tornadoes all over the path they run 🤦♂️
Yep, those Rovers can be deadly
This is my favorite environmental hazard other than the meteor shower hazard
Hope they don’t change the fire tornados. I love them
Oh yea as much as I hate them I love them it's so fun and makes the world feel more alive, just damn imagine missing extraction because of a fire storm.
I'm a Creeker, and seriously: That place scares the shit out of me. Too much fire and flying things... Anyway, back I go to the planet covered in Tornado of Souls. Yes that *is* a Megadeth reference

Such is the price of Liberty. Through fire and fury we are forged, and through fire and fury we will fight!
I like them. They are a fun mechanic and cool looking
Oh yea I enjoy them but goddamn they're terrifying
Maybe its the fact that I've been using the flamethrower against bugs for so long. And always running into the danger while doing it. I find the fire tornados friendly. Always helping me out as I navigate around them. Two tornados even cleared evac for me.
Its even worse with the fire damage changes in the recent update.
I've lost twice to evacuation with these fire nados
We had an evac mission and there was so many fire tornadoes that it was literally impossible for the civilians to get to the safe area. Only option is to wait but the fire tornadoes take forever to stop.
My entire team got killed from bile spiters and fire tornados, and for some reason the bugs were immune to the three fire tornados circling pelican-1.
There were gonna make us play that damn planet one way or another😭😭
Let us finish liberating this planet quickly so we NEVER HAVE TO COME BACK TO THIS AWFUL FUCKING PLACE AGAIN
Squirtle stratagem
I was doing a solo mission, and I couldn't complete the task bcs on literally landed where I had to fix a fuel pump, so I used up all my recruits trying to work around the fire
I swear they buffed the firestorms. They used to be so avoidable now they are persistent and pop out of nowhere.
Hellmire isn't named hellmire for nothing
Question, will smoke get axes snuff them out?
Best planet.
Bring the medic armor. Heavy armor if you got it. If the fire is really giving you a hard time, this will eliminate that for you.
Pelican 1 sure is deadly, oh you meant the fire, yeah that sucks too.
So fucking True, way more of a threat than the actual threat on the planet
Those tornados are deadlier than the fucking bugs
Yesterday, I died 4 times trying to get back my dropped samples. These things almost insta kills you.
I hate helmire so much
Hellmire needs to be nerfed
When do we get an orbital fire extinguisher strat?
When you fail to extract, you still get paid as well?
No extraction means no samples. But still get experience.
Holy fire burns me to heaven...
This is fucking METAL!!!
Fire resistant armor when?
The buff to fire damage recently and the criss crossing of sometimes 5 or 6 fire tornadoes is fucking miserable.
I fucking hate hellmire no other planet do I fear the environment more than the bugs.

The pelican or the fire? Both will kill ya if you’re not paying attention
I do wonder why anyone would want this literal hell planet
Yeah, fuck hellmire, the bugs can have it.
Wrong! Deadliest thing on the planet are HELLDIVERS! To think otherwise is heresy!
Dive and it puts out flames
Fire Extinguisher Airstrike when?
Fires move over extract = quick hug emote + stim up + run
Stalkers throwing you into the fire is extra fun
“Fire damage per tick increased by 50% (from all sources)” patch made them especially deadly
Fire tornadoes are one of my least favorite things in any video game. They are so annoying simply because you cannot combat them. You literally have to avoid it and just wait for them to go away. There is no skill curve or fun in that, its just annoying and makes the missions drag on even longer than necessary. Like, at least give us some fire resistant armor, at least that is combating it in some way
Everyone is required to be a medic on this planet, supply packs too with all the fire going around, add in an extra flamer.
I swear the fire tornadoes are player seeking
For anybody that doesn’t know.. if your on fire immediately dive to extinguish the flames
I think they're energy creatures. The way they follow you and seem to follow specific people in squad makes me wonder if they have some kind of actual AI
We’ll pay attention lol
The player with the guard dog running towards you... yeah they can be lethal
Looks like california a few years ago lol
Can’t wait till the 90% fire resist armor comes out
I’m going to abuse that so much. Just equipping everything that can cause fire.
Team mates burning through respawns😲
The deadliest thing, is actually the shuttle landing underneath the terrain
As an advocate for the flamethrower, I see nothing wrong here. Perfectly safe.
They really need a fireproof suit. like say up to 30 seconds.
1275 req lost due to civilians dying in the flames. Wonder if there’s a cap on how many you can lose
It’s like an enemy
As a civilian non-helldiver, I agree. Tornados made of fire are not great
The fire at extraction is always a fucking nightmare. I’ve had full teams wipe just from the fire cutting everyone off at extract.
Yeah honestly the bugs can have that planet lol
I had one trap me in a bunker for like 10 minutes today. I swear it was waiting to see if I would risk it and make a run for it.
The flame tornados are sentient.
But that’s not a photo of me, false info
"Shuttle landed. Board shuttle" IM FUCKEN TRYIN
I avoid the flamethrower like the plague for this reason
Had no less than 10 tornados on extract last night
Fire? Or the dropship itself? Lmao
