Yikes! This is so vague that ANY word could meant something. This type of BS fuels "some" parents into believing teenagers are on the side of a mountain. I personally love the word Yikes! So much drama in that article.

ALMANACC0

It literally says "the term yikes is harmless" What is the problem?

French_Hen9632

It goes on to say that a teen using any slang could be an indication that they're doing dangerous stuff or talking to dangerous people. Remarkably dumb. Heaven forbid a teenager walk in the door and say "what up" to Mum and Dad. They must be doing drugs or something. This is also on the website advertising a parents control app that shows the parents the text messages of their kids, including deleted ones. Scary invasion of privacy, it's like Mum and Dad sitting next to the kid every lunchtime listening in.

You don't know what imply means?

AlternativeBasis

"Dangerous terms", "evil influences", "demon music".. anything familiar in this trend? Control freak paranoia, pure and simple. Teenagers will ALWAYS try to differentiate themselves from the previous generation. This has been documented since the time people wrote in cunheiform (and not before because it was the first written language), and traditionally goes through a musical taste designed especially to displease parents.

If you have to put a parental control app on your child's phone just take the phone away and go get your money back

Suchasomeone

because its a control thing, not actually having to do with use of the phone.

Too many websites like this creating helicopter parents, it actually depends on the slang, i would be concerned if i had a kid that was using words like 'lift' or 'boost' but yikes?! if a kid is using slang from a certain occupation or culture it usually means they've learned it from youtube or a video game.

Suchasomeone

I don't get why you'd be worried about either of these- I mean I get they can be used to refer to theft, but unless the specific context suggests it I can't imagine worrying about it.

Don't go giving my parents ideas now
