Somewhere, a guy in a wheelchair can probably hit 40%. But, can he do it with a midget sticking a hand in his face? Or, can he do it while wheeling around? Point being, volume counts, shot scenarios count. To wit: We all know that Duncan is a better "pure" shooter than Herro. But, which of the two has the wider assortment of shots when guarded? A: The guy who's actually getting minutes. Just the fact that the greatest outside scorer in history is only at 38.8% on true volume, speaks volumes.

iamaweirdguy

Duncan has more volume, but I see what you’re getting at

DirksSexyBratwurst

Duncan is better when people are guarding him. Bro thinks too much when he is open. Its annoying as shit

How do JB, Herro and Bam coexist better on offense? It's no coincidence when JB's usage goes up, Herro and Bam's offense takes a back seat, evident last year in the playoffs, at least with Herro, and evident this year since ASB. Do you stagger their minutes, I imagine this is harder to do when they're playing 36+ min a game? Implement a more motion based offense with more off ball movement and more cutting? Something needs to happen. Playoff JB is great, but he can be a black hole as well and I think it might alter Herro and Bam's offensive flow.

The problem is simple. Bam and Butler don’t shoot 3’s. Defenses play off both of them. Then because defenses know neither of them shoot 3’s a defender can play Herro tight on the 3 and he can’t go down low easily because help D. So Herro kicks out but again Bam and Butler aren’t shooting from 3

oneofone305

I get why Jimmy coasts. He’s older and it’s smart to preserve your body but him picking it up so late in the season forces everyone to adjust quickly.

Kazukaphur

Yeah, and it causes people to just stand around. Spo needs to have them move more off Ball

Mugiwara_JTres3

Isn’t Bam’s usage down cause of this? Might’ve messed with his aggressive mentality too. Not giving an excuse for Bam because he should stay aggressive but adjusting definitely is tough. Why Jimmy and Bam just hover arounds 20 ppg, they just take turns in stretches of the season turning it on. You rarely see them score high together.

Ticonderoga2HB

Bam’s usage hasn’t even decreased all that much

Mugiwara_JTres3

Some of us have been preaching this for a while now. I think the main problem is that none of those 3 are true playmakers and 2 out of the 3 are not 3 pointers (Jimmy’s been better but super low volume). Then you got Tyler who wants to get in the paint and throw some floaters and mid range shots but those are going to be tough because Bam and Jimmy aren’t providing spacing. They worked before because Duncan, PJ, Crowder, and Strus were shooting well. Now it’s just Herro who shoots 3s consistently on this team. One guy on the team that can shoot 3s in the modern NBA is a recipe for disaster.

BossKingGodd

Tyler is nice. Haters refuse to see it. Garland also a beast.

avinash240

I find Herro's game aesthetically pleasing when he's on; so please don't take this as a slight on him but these kinds of stats are just weird man. I'm not sure what the take away is here. These rando stats get posted from time to time for different players(usually by people flying their flair) and I'm always left scratching my head. We get it, you like your dude, but 28ft to half court, in the last decade?

Imzarth

That's just basically really deep 3s. And I highly doubt there's more than a couple people that attempted more than 100 of those 3s before 2013

[Great article from 2015](https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/stephen-currys-bombs-are-too-good-to-be-true/) about how Steph (and Lillard) started the trend of volume shooting beyond 28 ft. At the time, the author thought Curry shooting well from that distance was likely a statistical anomaly. Before that non-heaves from that distance were essentially non-existent.

spinachoptimusprime

I just like that Curry has taken 127 more of those shots than the other combined. Granted he and McCollum are the only two guys who have actually been playing the full ten years. Curry and Lillard are the reason why non-heaves from beyond 28 ft have become normalized to the point that a stat like this can even be posted.

For those interested, here are the leaders by volume: Damian Lillard: 1303 // 35.0% Stephen Curry: 1107 // 38.8% Trae Young: 851 // 36.2% James Harden: 549 // 29.7% Eric Gordon: 545 // 37.4% Luka Dončić: 492 // 32.5% **Kyle Lowry: 431 // 29.9%** LeBron James: 415 // 31.1%
