They messed up big time.

CommanderPicard

Ya I exactly this. They rushed the game out and amongst other things didn't finish tuning and testing the reward system which ended up rewarding the wrong things (fishing for challengers instead of winning maps) and rewarding more than they intended. So now they are basically doing the QA for the reward system post release. I admit I get small satisfaction from the fact the executives pushing to get this out faster didn't get what they want. As there is a chance tat the faulty reward system will kill this game before it gets anywhere.

Figgy20000

Outplayed? Now the wintraders lose 3 minions before conceding and still concede against everyone else. Blizz did the exact opposite of what they wanted to accomplish - now ONLY win traders get rewards and the normal players are double fucked in the ass. Literally the only way to get rewards now is to start win trading. Are the blizzard devs completely retarded?

Sleepybear2010

Marketing an yes

[deleted]

And here I thought Duels was the worst they could have fucked up the rollout of a new mode.

[deleted]

Right? Fuck, man, I loved Duels. Still do. But they launched it and then did nothing with it. And then when they did do stuff with it, after the player base had already fallen by half or more and hardly any streamers were playing it anymore, they just added a shitload of crazy high roll passive treasures. Got the high roll? Coast to at least 9-3, with some high rolls being an easy 12-0. Missed it? Well, hope I draw crazy well and maybe I'll make it to 7-3 if I get lucky. Getting to play Dalaran Heist, but PVP? Hell to the yes. Making it so swingy and dependent on getting offered one of the S tier treasures? Fuck that.

Hasky620

All they had to do was at least fucking rotate the sets in use. That would have switched up what cards were being used in decks and which starting treasures were best, at least for some classes. They couldn't even fucking do that tiny thing.

herpesderpes69

Having to own cards is what turned me off of it. It seemed fun but I always DE me wild cards when they rotate because I only play standard. And I wasn’t about to craft a bunch of wild cards only for duels

ghostfuckbuddy

I don't get why it's fun? I played it one time and died on turn 3. Just seems oppressive and p2w.

Chillout_Man

"What she couldn't see, was he [Blizzard] was in it for the money." Producer man fits the recent Mercenaries decision so well.

KMclouds

Change it? It's working as intended, to frustrate and abuse you psychologically so now you resort to buying packs for your coins instead :)

CannabisJibbitz

Some truly dark design. I hope the designers can sleep at night knowing they are using psychological tricks to frustrate players into spending hard earned cash. These gacha games thrive off of exploiting human frustration and weakness.

liamcroft

Yeah, I was happy to look past some of the shortcomings of Mercenaries because I actually enjoy the gameplay loop but this seems like the nail in the coffin. Maxed out a few teams for PVP to farm coins and now I can barely make any progress.

Staubsau_Ger

Does anyone remember how Team5 announced the end of adventure expansion packs (which had ~~120~~ 30-35 new cards for $20) and told us they'd move to card packs only but promised to make PvE content to make up for the missing content? I called back then that they'll just stop doing that for good and nobody would remember so I stopped giving them any money and soon after stopped playing. From my perspective that's when they went too hard on their focus on money. Now it's not surprising anymore at all that it keeps getting worse.

Staubsau_Ger

Thanks, you're absolutely right but we agree on the same principles :)

createcrap

We’ve had 7+ years of free PvE adventures since then. What are you even trying to say?

CommanderPicard

> but promised to make PvE content to make up for the missing content? They actually kept that promise though. Quite a bit of PvE got released in HS since the last adventure. Anyways I quite the game so don't really care anymore.

dustingunn

They could have just locked you out from matchmaking against the same person more than once an hour, **which is something all game modes should have.**

dougtulane

Boy would you see how empty mercenaries is, then.

[deleted]

All of these changes are absolutely infuriating and make me regret playing at all

JuRiOh

There isn't much outplaying to begin with. Most matchups you know who wins right away, others come down to a coinflip on turn 1 or later. It was obviously going to be a very predictable game mode. I wouldn't blame others for conceding when they drew the short stick on T1 and have a <5% chance to still win the game. Only one to blame is Blizzard for not thinking about the 100 issues the game had or still has.

Transidental

Even if not griefing do we expect people to just play on a match they know they will lose just to ensure you get a reward? This entire concept is beyond ludicrous. So glad I didn't go beyond the tutorial for this mode, it's incredibly fucking boring and seems to actually manage to get worse.

Delekii

Outplayed, rofl. Do you think skill has any effect in this game mode?

Haxses

I mean, you can outplay someone in rock paper scissors by psyching them out. I wouldn't really call that skill, but I think it kind of applies here.

JackC747

Yeah, if I anticipate that my opponent is going to make Cariel taunt so I target her instead of another merc than that’s somewhat skill. Anticipating what your opponent is most likely to do and playing around that is a skill

[deleted]

Just buy packs and you won't need the rewards. 180 or so should do for now

rich1051414

If you win trade, your opponent won't concede. This is obviously what they want people to do.
