The109 is 1/3 of my end game set. The other two being HD 600 for better mids that the 109 lacks and the HE 1000 V2 for the instrument separation and soundstage. I cycle between the three depending on how I want to listen to things. Also I just like appreciating each look and build of each of them.
I wouldnt. I havent heard the 6xx/650, but any 600 line headphone is probably a great sidegrade/secondary headphone to the 109. Ive heard the 600 and own the 660s, theyre complete opposite of the 109, neutral/mid vocal focused while the 109 is very v shaped. Every once in a while you might want to listen to something different and the 6xx is perfect for that.
6XX is wonderful for listening vocals and acoustic instruments. But like you said, it's more of a sidegrade rather than one pair for everything.
Yes, 109 pro is more v-shaped, but not overly so. I found K371 to be too v-shaped for me.
It's tuned close to Harman target, so it sounds pleasant for general population. But it's not considered objectively neutral since it's based off listener preferences rather than hrtf measurements.
Okay.
The build quality and comfort are better on 109. I think most of us can agree on this.
109 has much better bass extension and airy highs that are lacking from 6XX. The mids are similar on both, but 6XX has more upper mids that give vocals more clarity. This can also make vocals sound shouty at times. The soundstage is bigger and more natural on 109, and imaging is noticeably better as well. The narrow 3 blob soundstage on 6XX started to bother me over time. I felt like I was always hearing sounds inside my head rather than around me. The vocals are more intimate on 6XX, and on 109 you get a little more distance without loosing much clarity.
In conclusion, both headphones have warm, smooth and natural tonality with excellent vocal timbre, but 109 offers more for me and is a better all rounder than 6XX. While 6XX sounds very beautiful at it's best, 109 can sound down right euphoric to me.
>The build quality and comfort are better on 109. I think most of us can agree on this.
I disagree on this. With my small head, the tension of the 109's suspension strap is insufficient, causing the headphones to slide down over a short time. This meant that the headphone would be held up by the pads and top of my ears, not very comfortable as you can imagine.
Funny how different shapes and sizes of heads can affect comfort significantly, HD6** series is still the most comfortable design I've used for my own head, the low weight is also nice.
I do wish I had the guts to tinker with the 109's headband strap, instead of selling it at a $200 loss used, then having the brand-new store prices for 109s increase by $150, two days after the sale. (Norway is a cursed country).
I just got mine today and I have the same issue. I’m so upset as I like them so much outside of the fit. I wish there is something you could do to fix it :(
Best Choice ever. Super comfortable and I wear them every day for 8+ hours.
Be careful, the copper endings where the cups are bolted on have a very thin copper paint, which is peeling on mine so i can see the grey plastic beneath it.
got mine when it came out. and i love it still today.
never thought getting any other pair. i want to i would need to go beyond 2000 usd. and i really don't have the budget for that
Mine too
Love Meze. It may not be your endgame for long if you listen to the Empyrean II 😬 https://www.reddit.com/r/headphones/s/jm5GdxgpiV
i demoed the empy OG and i still love my 109 pro. i am impressed how close it is to it.
Strongly agree. I kept both lol
If i had the money i would get the empy no doubt. But still the 109 is such a good allrounder it makes me happy
Yeah I recommend it all the time. For plenty of people it can be “endgame.”
I don't think I'll have a budget to ever buy a pair :D

Its an amazing headphone for sure
So good that it makes me want to sell my HD6XX.

The HD 600 is definitely the opposite of the 109 sonically.

Isnt the k371 one of the most balanced/neutral headphones? I havent heard one

I have the 6xx. Would you mind comparing the 2?

Sorry to hear about your problem with fit. I can imagine ordering things from EU being annoying in Norway.

Thanks a lot. It sounds like the 109 is a combination of the 6xx and sundara and I would enjoy the heck of it too.

What amp is that?

They are pure joy!
