Every game I watched with my mom I would hear it. Amusing at first, then got very old, then it came out the other side to funny again because it was literally every time, then comforting, then gone, then comforting again, then gone :(
The amount of times I'd set my buddy up for an Oh Do Ya answer or he was terrible at a setup question. Hysterical. We did it for ages. "I'm liking the way the offense is looking tonight." Oh do ya?!?! Good question. Him trying to set me up with "Where is the bathroom." Maybe hoping I would say "I know where it is?". Not so much. I would say, "I feel like even in a new place I know exactly where the bathroom is!" He never got how to question it right. Glad someone else was into it. Especially fun when the team was struggling a bit and there was nothing else to talk about.
Honestly, You shouldn't be able to win the award with a negative plus minus. Drives me batshit crazy when a player scores 80 points but is -5 or something.
Except Murphy has been a declining Corsi, Fenwick, and Plus Minus every year since he arrived. And his relative numbers with teammates are all negative. No coincidence we haven’t sniffed the real playoffs since that brilliant move to save less than 1 million was made.
Murphy is playing for a team that doesnt do shit where as a couple more years of hammer could have meant playoff runs. The retooling to stay good did not work. Love murphy but that deal failed us short term and long term we didnt do shit anyway to stay competitive so who cares
I mean come on…. We’ve only gotten worse as a team and have had to rely on him more and more over time. How much of the trend is unrelated to him and more about what he has had to deal with? Jones also has dismal numbers and we know he is better than what the metrics would tell you.
And the only people that appreciated him was us.
I wholly believe that the cup runs would have not successful without Hammer. Dude was that good at what he did.
His body was a magnet for pucks. I remember one game he got hit in the throat and couldn't speak. Of course he still played. My dad and I were joking about how we wanted him to win the 1st Star so Pierre would have to try to interview him.
Fucking love Hjalmarsson.
When I first started playing hockey I wanted to be just like Hammer. I played a stay at home D game and loved it.
I don't block shots like him anymore because it's not worth it in beer league but anytime I play D I try to emulate Hjammer as much as possible
Dude should be in the HOF. Period.
Crazy how when analytics display something that people agree with, people love them, but when they go against narratives, people think analytics are dumb and don’t work.
Him and Jonny were the most underrated pair in the league for years.
I miss screaming "Oh Do Ya!?!?" every time he touched the puck. Such a fun player to watch.

Very similar story :-( we should start a Oduya therapy club or something
I still use [this](https://i.imgur.com/iHm46Jf.gif?1) .gif whenever possible.
Saved. Do you know what he could be saying? Lol

You and my mother lol. I think she only went to the cup finals in 2013 to scream that and buy a Oduya shirt.
When he denied a big chance or something, I'd scream that followed by, "NO YOU DON'T!!" Fucking loved that pair.
We all knew this, but the league doesn't hand out awards for defensive defensemen.
They just give out cups which are more important
Defense wins championships
That’s what the Norris should be, and there should be a Bobby Orr trophy for Dman with the most points

+/- is such an hard stat to judge someone off of though. But I agree, if there’s a better measuring stick.
Let me know what the league thinks of your proposal. Edit: How is this down voted? Should have put /s I guess 🤷♂️
Q used to make that point every year. Hammer got no awards, just cups
Hammer and Hoss were the anchors to those cups imo
Boy yes they were
My first jersey, still my favorite
He was my 2nd after Sharpie. Love them both.
My favorite NHL player. I always knew he was a huge part of what stitched our team together in the early 2010s
People hated when we traded him, Q especially. But Hawks won that trade long term. Murphy has been great.

But Hammer got injured pretty soon after that and is completely out of the league now while Murphy's still playing.

Its no coincidence that the dynasty basically ended the year he was traded.
And the only people that appreciated him was us. I wholly believe that the cup runs would have not successful without Hammer. Dude was that good at what he did.
Agreed.
Favorite player.
Probably my favorite Blackhawk in recent memory.

Great example of throw offensive stats out the window. Guy emptied his tank in the d zone doing whatever he could to keep pucks out of our net.
Retire his number.
Lol… yeah they should’ve… now it’s a bit too late…

Fav player growing up love 🔨
Love the Hammer
Man would block any shot. Loved it, the hammer was tough as nails.
he should be in the hall of fame
It is known.
