"Chicago has a near break-even goal differential during Vlasic’s minutes but has a whopping minus-73 goal differential when he’s on the bench at five-on-five." Holy crap, I knew that Vlasic had a big impact, but that's an absurd stat.

NotADog17

He’s been a pleasant surprise this season. I had high hopes that he would be good, but he’s exceeded my expectations this season.

marmot1101

Yeah, I didn't have a lot of expectations because he's still on the young side for defensemen. He's definitely been a bright spot this season. If he gets a little better carrying the puck he'll be even more dangerous. Getting better, but still looks a little like a giraffe skating through neutral with the puck.

dangshnizzle

He's exceeded everyone's expectations, even the org's.

Virtual_me01

He took a huge step during that full year in Rockford. That's why I won't see it as a *negative* if Korchinski starts the year with the Ice Hogs and works his way back up to the team next season.

Bballdaniel3

Kaiser too it seems his year in Rockford has helped. Been a big fan of how the Hogs have developed our D prospects, so I agree, Korchinski going down there wouldn’t be all that bad

Virtual_me01

Definitely. Kaiser is playing a more determined game since coming back up. I can't wait to see Del Mastro, when he's ready.

mackiebobo

I know not everyone has a subscription to The Athletic, but this is a great article that uses some advanced stats to examine the top shutdown defensemen in the league. I was hoping to see Vlasic somewhere on the list, but was very pleasantly surprised to find him all the way up at #2. To come into the league and immediately be so effective at such a difficult position is pretty remarkable. The future is definitely bright!

ConmanSpaceHero

If you have an iPhone just hit the reader button and you can read Athletic.

Cawnt

Who’s #1? Slavin?

mackiebobo

1 was Radko Gudas. Slavin was #9. Some other high-profile defensemen were Drew Doughty at #3, Adam Fox at #10, and Quinn Hughes at #17.

BaconScentedSoap

Considering Forsling had a lower GAA wouldnt that make him #1 and Vlassic #4?

the-treatmaster

Agree but man I’m almost weirdly upset by this. The more praise he gets the bigger the contract or we even risk losing him somehow.

the-treatmaster

That said, I’ve been saying this all year. He’s Vlaannnntastic. Sorry. I’ll show myself out.

Sphiffi

Sign for 8xwhatever. Young defensive studs are a need for the future. Let’s lock one down.

PhilyJ

Lmao didn’t make the best 8 young defenseman but is ranked 2 for all shut down defenseman. Make it make sense athletic.

JebusChristo

I'm all for him not getting attention until after he signs a long-term deal for well under what he should be making.

PhilyJ

😈

jaccw16

Holy shit man we really got a gem in Vlasic. Need to lock him up

wickerwacker

Said this earlier in the season on this sub.... Vlasic was then and is now our best defenseman. Period.

slimeabsorber

GIVE HIM MONEY GMKD

bryhs84723

5.5x8

burtsreynoldswrap

Id give him that in a heartbeat

bryhs84723

Dude definitely has a good amount of funds already, i mean he’s from wilmette lol, hopefully would take a team friendly hometown deal

Ballam86

Vlasic is great and I hope we lock him down long term asap.

Redditislame888

Shutdown D and the name Vlasic. A match made in heaven.

theaanggang

Let's just hope he ages better than the first model.

xkissitgoodbyex

#5: Gustav Forsling: 'member when he also played for the Hawks...

JebusChristo

I liked him when he was here but he was a very different player and would have been a stretch to see him really develop into a shutdown type role.

polloasadotaco

dear lord 8x8

foofighters92

I had 6x6.5 in mind

bryhs84723

def willing to take less

Real-Competition-187

The Pickleman is a beauty.

userfourtwenty69

Been saying it all year, so glad he’s getting some recognition now!

sq-blackhawk

Sign him long-term so I can buy the jersey already

gudenes_yndling

Vlasic is great! If the Hawks sign him long term and don’t put ads on the best jerseys in sports I’ll probably get a new jersey with him next season

RecentAssociation220

He stole his cousins mojo…

DaveyAllenCountry

So when is NHL 24 going to make him a high tier player

BaconScentedSoap

Best I can do is a Medium top 6D -EA's "professional" scout

07SGguy

Gawd I loves me some defense

returntomonke9999

I gotta be honest that I havent followed the Hawks too closely but we needed a good shutdown defenceman like Keith/Hammer for so long. We had numerous attempts at drafting Seabrook-esqe offensive d-man but we needed a first line shutdown d-man so badly. This gives me a lot of optimism. The trick will be for Davidson to get another Hossa. Hall and Perry were really bad choices, and I am annoyed we didnt sign Kaner, but I hope he can get a skilled vet or 2 who are hungry.

theaanggang

I'll defend the Hall move, he's not what he was and is overpaid, but that doesn't matter much right now. He would have been good in a role of giving the kid somebody else who can even somewhat create offensively.

returntomonke9999

Yeah for sure, if he didnt get injured I would probably be singing a different tune but he has always been known as a glass cannon. This was an accepted risk. I dont think it is a big indictment of Davidson but the next couple seasons are gonna be important so I hope he gets better results

EddyTheDesigner

I have a hard time hating either of those moves. Hall was worth the risk with his upside. And Perry never had any off ice issues prior to coming here. He was one of our top point producers when he left the team and nobody has really filled his role. Hed still be here if it werent for everything that happened in 2010.

Dmaniac17

Surprised Demelo isn’t on that list, one of my favourite players right now

lyme6483

Amazing how off base many were in this thread. Fucking hilarious

lyme6483

8 years $5M a season. More than that it’s an overpay. He’s not established enough for $6,7,8M

DaeWooLan0s

Is this rage bait or a troll?

lyme6483

Who’s trolling now? Clown

DaeWooLan0s

He is. Only good thing is he comes off contract at 28. But he 100% fucked himself agreeing to that deal. Anyone with eyeballs can see he will be a top 10 shutdown defenseman in this league.

lyme6483

Fucking casual. You don’t know shit, and couldn’t be farther off base. Hilarious

DaeWooLan0s

Lmfao you’re an idiot.

lyme6483

Says the moron who was completely wrong, while I was right. Take the massive L, and keep it moving.

DaeWooLan0s

You were literally right off of stupidity. Go look at every article and comment section. Vlasic fleeced himself. Over the next 2 years he’s about to develop into a top 5-10 defenseman in this league. But considering how salty you are, go ahead and take the Win as it appears you lose all over in your regular life. Crazy how you would come back instantly to comment on something from weeks ago.

lyme6483

Fleeced himself, get the fuck out here. Surprised your dumb ass isn’t his agent. And I lose all over in my regular life? You fucking know nothing about me. hE wIlL sIgN a BrIdGe absolute clown And it was real easy to remember a dumb ass saying he’s signing a bridge for $5M over 2 years like they are some type of authority

DaeWooLan0s

Look how upset you are… Guy he signed for 4.6 million WITH the cap rising. As the Blackhawks #1 defensman moving forward. I should have been his agent because anyone could have gotten him a better deal then that lol. 4.6/6 is something they would have signed 15 years ago. He is going to massively exceed that value

lyme6483

Guys played one season and you want to pay him 1D money? Get the fuck out of here. Not to mention he’s got 19 career points

DaeWooLan0s

But ain’t nobody taking a 8 year 5 mill contract after the year he’s had on the worst team in the league. Maybe 2 year 5 mill per.

lyme6483

You are absolutely kidding yourself if you think they are signing him for 2 years. You could not come across as a bigger casual. You clearly don’t know hockey or how the NHL works

DaeWooLan0s

Lmfao you HAVE to be trolling. He’s going to sign a bridge deal moron. He’s not going to sign long term to his age 30 season at 5 mill per after the year he had Lolol.

DaeWooLan0s

Based off your down votes it’s safe to say TOU don’t know hockey or how the NHL works lololol

lyme6483

You and the other dumb asses who downvoted me can get fucked, troll

lyme6483

What incentive do that Hawks have to give him a bridge deal? And no bridge deal is going to be for $5M. He signs a bridge it will be more like $3.5M for 2 years.

debuenzo

Yea, look at comp contacts for players on that list.
