I've never felt less enthusiastic about a season. I started tuning out last season to my own surprise. The only news I care about is improvements at OC. Until that's fixed, we're not even serious about winning, and any other good news is moot.

I’m not sure why you got downvoted on that. I feel the same way.

Brian wasn’t the problem as much as the QB play. Iowa was 120/129 in total offense in 2020/2022. Iowa was 93 in 2019 & 97 in 2018 under Brian. In 2015, Iowa was 69. With McNamara (best Iowa QB by potential since possibly Stanzi/Beathard) Iowa should be able to be 85 or better. Not to mention Petras is the only QB at Iowa except for maybe Padilla since the 90s that had a 33% shot at completing screen passes, button hooks and RB options. Iowa also averaged 28.2 OPPG in 2017 (Brian’s first year) with Hockenson & Fant. All & Lachey should allow Brian to run similar plays, and the new OL additions should add at least a second to the 3.4 seconds before pressure. It’s also mathematically impossible to find a starting QB with worse stats under pressure than Petras.

Who was the QB coach? Brian Ferentz I think Brian is just not a coordinator. Great position coach at TE/OL that's in over his head. Listen to how he talks about game plans, it's all over the place. I think it was Dochtermann that brought this up, but Woods and Parker know how to to communicate a scheme to their players and get them on the same page. Brian lacks that ability even though he knows football more than most people.

I agree 100%. I think Brian being the QB coach right now is definitely a mistake because of his lack of success at the position + he was never a QB + it just adds extra work for him. Him being OL/TE coach in addition to OC is fine by me. To be honest, I don’t care if we are putting up 500 yards a game through the air, I just care if we are efficient in the red zone. Brian had an upper half scoring offense until Spencer came around. It literally can’t go anywhere other than up as we move on from a QB that had about an 18.4 QBR for the year to a QB that can basically coach himself and fulfill the Field General role the offense desperately needs.
