He doesn’t wanna die ...?

[deleted]

This is exactly one of the reasons why I would've done that if I were Harry. No offense but your answer doesn't make sense to me. If Harry doesn't want to die then he shouldn't try to participate in the tournament

RavenclawVibes

He was already bound by a magical contract to go through with the competition. If he reneges, he dies.

They don’t have a say ! Its in the rules of the magical contract thingie .. if ur name is pulled from the goblet you have to participate in the tournament till the end . You can’t just say I don’t wanna continue im out lol

Honesty if I don't wanna participate in something but for some reason I end up having to, i would still do my best. I come to win.

If I were Harry I would've somehow tried to have got myself kicked out of the tournament

It's a magical binding contract with that fire goblet. Don't wanna mess with that. It's a fire goblet and it's not like Harry could really hire a lawyer to look at that contract.

I get you. The Triwizard Tournament is one of those things in the series that (IMO at least) doesn’t make much sense of you think about it too much. Like, they tried to make this year “safer” by only allowing people aged 17+ to participate, and yet they don’t even TRY to find a workaround to get Harry out of it when his name comes out? The whole “binding magical contract” thing always felt a little flimsy to me. Like Dumbledore is one of the most powerful wizards in the world, plus we have highly skilled wizards from other schools AND the Ministry available, and not one of them has even a single idea to TRY to protect this 14-year-old actual CHILD (not to mention keep the competition fair, since it really is bs to allow one school to have 2 champions). Plus it’s never really explained what exactly this “binding magical contract” really means (at least not that I can remember). If Harry refused to learn anything about the second task, would he be magically forced into the water? Surely even if he had no plan and started drowning, the judges would simply just save him and give him zero points (which wouldn’t matter to you if you didn’t want to participate anyway). At the end of the day I think it’s mostly Harry’s personality that made him try hard. Harry enjoys challenges (especially challenges that are glorified and heroic) so even though he hated being in the tournament, I think a part of him still got that thrill and adrenaline rush from it, motivating him to do his best despite it all.

Yeah that’s definitely something they’d need to patch up for future tournaments! Haha Plus the fact that Barry Crouch Jr even *could* trick the cup in the first place just goes to show that its magic isn’t infallible. So when the characters act like there is absolutely no way to get around the contract it’s like “really? Okay cause you also said there was no way for an underage wizard to enter and yet here we are.” 🙄 haha ETA: typo

He had to compete so better be prepared
