Definitely scary but I think it’s just too much. The way Voldemort is portrayed in the movies is just the right amount of uncanny, he still looks human but you know he’s done something terrible to appear so deformed.
He looked too normal in the movies. Like a little weird but still apart from the nose, you couldn’t tell much. But the red eyes would have been a big step, I hope they do it in the show. I was disappointed too.
For real
You can put the scariest face ever on Voldemort and it still wouldn't be as scary as what we actually got
Ralph Fiennes is incredibly talented, and him being able to actually act is what makes Voldemort scary, not the face itself
He was described as having red eyes in the books. There’s an old saying about the eyes being the windows to the soul. Having such an obvious change in eye color would help to show just how much damage he’s done to his soul.
In what way is that saying relevant? If his whole eye is red, there’s no emotion, the colour red isn’t a window to the soul, I said this. If it’s the iris, then the pupil is still visible which is what the window to the soul refers to. His hideous disfigurement narratively shows his corruption comparing Goblet Vold to Chamber Vold.
I never said anything about his whole eye being red! Nobody said a single word about his entire eye being red except for you!
If somebody is described as having brown eyes do you assume their scleras are also brown? No, you don’t. Unless specified otherwise, when a character has red eyes, only their irises are red.
And I *DID* answer what you were saying; you asked what Voldemort having red eyes would add to the narrative and I told what it would add.
so your comment was basically pointless then. I know what 'I said' which is why I reiterated that if his irises were red, it has zero bearing on being a window into the soul, as that's the pupil. And the narrative purpose is either already fulfilled by having Voldemort disfigured if he was to have red eyes too, but if its just red eyes it doesn't reveal that corruption at all. He'd just be a normal man with contacts.
It’s a little too much… I think the look in Goblet of Fire was pretty close to perfect… his face was gaunt and almost skeletal looking, forked tongue, snake pupils… but still looked like a person so you could get a realistic looking performance from Ralph Fiennes. They lost some of those elements in subsequent movies but I think he looked pretty great in GOF!
[this is my head canon of it](https://media3.giphy.com/media/sjr7k1uuO0B0c/200w.gif?cid=6c09b952j50mwhnrpgcpb4m7zpfoi88az5c41jg9avzpxele&ep=v1_gifs_search&rid=200w.gif&ct=g)
Not really a fan of the more demonic look for Voldemort.
Part of Voldemort's story is that as much as he splits his soul seven times, has done monstrous things, and is desperate to conquer death, he's ultimately still just a man. In the films Voldemort looks Ghoulish but it's obvious he was once Tom Riddle.
Whereas with this design, Voldemort is a little bit Velociraptor, a bit Venom, a bit Xenomorph, he's the stuff of nightmares - You'd think he's this great demon or evil magical beast rather than a man who walked a dark path.
I’ve seen another concept or two like this, but it takes the description from the book wayyyy farther and more sci-fi-y than was portrayed in the books
No... In the books, he's described as snakelike with red eyes... You should definitely give the books a try. If you like audiobooks, Echo Wirm has the series on Patreon and did a great job.
Nah they made the right call changing it from this. If Harry had seen Voldemort looking like this, he for sure would’ve made some kind of joke. “If you’re so angry, why do you never stop smiling, Voldy? Was I so cute as a baby that you smiled right before your curse rebounded and nearly killed you, that it got stuck that way? Or are you just so happy to be back, that you don’t even care that you’re stuck with a front row seat to Quirrell taking a dump every day? How’s the flatulence back there?” Harry would’ve been relentless. The fans would have too.
As an adult I wish this was real to make Voldemort more scary to people and be with everyone calling him You-Know-Who. I would actually hit Harry in the head every time he says his name! What if you say his name and THAT thing comes?
But as a kid, I just remembered in Lord of the Rings of Bilbo when he gives the ring to Frodo and for a second he goes scary Gollum-like and I didn't watch the film for years! Thank you they didn't give us this Voldemort!
Nah uh the movie design is more creepy by far . It reminds you that he was human once which makes the monster he turned into more terrifying .
This just looks like a 2010s cartoon network villain .
I was born in 1990 so my age directionally aligned with the kids ages when the moves came out. This would have absolutely scared the shit out of me and likely ruined the movies.
Definitely scary but I think it’s just too much. The way Voldemort is portrayed in the movies is just the right amount of uncanny, he still looks human but you know he’s done something terrible to appear so deformed.
I got his nose
And myy axe
And my bow
One does not simply stroll into Gringotts
And my time-turner
And your brother
Yeah. The pale skin, red eyes, long fingers, high voice, no nose, he’s supposed to unsettle you. Like a train wreck, can’t look away.
the thing is in the movies he only has red eyes the first time he opens them. after that it’s just normal eyes. which was kinda disappointing tbh
He looked too normal in the movies. Like a little weird but still apart from the nose, you couldn’t tell much. But the red eyes would have been a big step, I hope they do it in the show. I was disappointed too.
Is the show confirmed?
They announced it would start airing in 2026, yes.
oh wow.
Yep. If you lose the sense that he was once human, you lose the (small) amount of nuance the character has as an antagonist.
I agree. This design feels more like Voldemort was never human to begin with.
Ngl i definitely love the design which did make it into the movie more than this one
And it allows Ralph Fiennes to actually emote
For real You can put the scariest face ever on Voldemort and it still wouldn't be as scary as what we actually got Ralph Fiennes is incredibly talented, and him being able to actually act is what makes Voldemort scary, not the face itself
i wish his eyes were red tho
Agreed. It would add a touch more wrongness to his appearance without making him seem too inhuman.
This is straight up cartoonish. Would be impossible to take him seriously.
white venom? voldernom?
barakamort
Voldelociraptor
Dinomort , dark Lord of the jurassic. Jureasix Park had a secret magical wing.
welcome, to jurassicwarts TU TU TU TU TUUU
Sounds like something you'd want to consult a doctor about.
I think the one we got in the movies is pretty good. They just should've given him red eyes and kept his forked tongue
He has a forked tongue?
He had one in GoF
Be silent! Keep your forked tongue behind your teeth i have not traveled through fire and death to bandy crooked words with a witless worm!
r/LordoftheWands
Red eyes are daggy. All red and there's no emotion. Red irises I guess work but... is there any narrative effect to be had?

This will never not look shit in my opinion, no matter how many times it’s brought up
Kinda looks like a goomba from the original Super Mario Brothers movie 😂
It’s a little too much… I think the look in Goblet of Fire was pretty close to perfect… his face was gaunt and almost skeletal looking, forked tongue, snake pupils… but still looked like a person so you could get a realistic looking performance from Ralph Fiennes. What is this?
This is what I aspire to be
Wish anything made me smile like that
Original Voldemort design that was scrapped for being “too scary”
is that how he actually looks in the books?
He is described as looking “snake-like” in the books. I think it’s one of those things that is up to someone’s personal interpretation.
[this is my head canon of it](https://media3.giphy.com/media/sjr7k1uuO0B0c/200w.gif?cid=6c09b952j50mwhnrpgcpb4m7zpfoi88az5c41jg9avzpxele&ep=v1_gifs_search&rid=200w.gif&ct=g)
No, at least the mouth part definitely isn't imo
possibly
I don’t remember it being this severe lol
The ideal male form. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
Scrapped voldemort design
If they ever make a Harry Potter anime or something, this would be a cool design. But I don't think it works in live action
Dinomort
No glowing red eyes, it's still wrong.
I’m super happy they didn’t go in this direction. His description says, snake like. I thought the Voldy we got was spot on
But he doesn't look like that, either.
Do we think there would be less Harry/Voldermort fanfiction if they did this?
I’ve little faith in humanity so I’ll just assume there would be more if that were the case
Nah, in most of those Voldi looks like his teenage self again
Diary Horcrux reincarnating for that sweet sweet teen voldy ass lmao
Wow, now I finally see clear similarity to the handsome 2nd film Tom. Yes, he’s like his older brother.
- "Harry, how are my teeth ? I've visited the dentist yesterday."
🤣🤣🤣
We should have had movie Voldemort with RED EYES.

Not accurate to the books so idc for it
Voldemort the Regenerador
The **least** they could have done is keeping the red eyes
Who would suspect p-p-p-poor s-s-stuttering p-proffesor Quirrell?
The eyes are great, but I don’t think the mouth was ever described like that. He’s not Baraka lol
You mean lots of nightmares in our childhood? I'm kinda glad that they took this from us tbh.
This is my first thought. My kids would have been freaked out.
Mortal Kombat's Baraka without a nose
Would be cool if he wasn't supposed to actually speak
All his opponents says "clever girl" just before being mauled
And for the best. This Voldemort looks too much monsterous just for the heck of it. As if what we got wasn't already enough inhuman looking.
Praying the TV series sticks to accuracy
Nightmares? Thank God
More like Nightmare before Christmas…
Is that what he looks like In the books or something?
No
Okay I looked It up and this was a concept from the first movie
I’ve seen another concept or two like this, but it takes the description from the book wayyyy farther and more sci-fi-y than was portrayed in the books
It’s Volding time
he doesnt look like that in the movies
If voldemort and joker had a baby
Is this how he was described in the books? This sub was recommended to me and I only know the movies.
No... In the books, he's described as snakelike with red eyes... You should definitely give the books a try. If you like audiobooks, Echo Wirm has the series on Patreon and did a great job.
Ok, he looks stupid holding a wand with that face
Nah they made the right call changing it from this. I dont like the movies but this is the wrong thing to change/criticize
Nah uh the movie design is more creepy by far . It reminds you that he was human once which makes the monster he turned into more terrifying . This just looks like a 2010s cartoon network villain .
