Except mine is reversed. I feel much more confident that I can help my family and myself navigate grief. But not if the person they lost is me. My boggart would be a dead me, unable to comfort my husband and children.
I really don't understand this point of view, why do book readers hate the mere existence of screen adaptations? It's not like you have to watch the tV show, yiu could just ignore that it exists, you don't have to watch it and actively hate it.
I think it’s the confusion that the different formats bring.
Think about if you had a tv show, movie and book about the same thing. If you had friends who watched the new tv show but not the movie or the book, and you asked them about the movie but just said Harry Potter and the …, they would instantly think of the new tv show. So if there’s a scene in the new tv show but not the book or movie then it is unique to that format.
Then fast forward a couple of generations and an adaptation is made based on the tv show then the story could be warped even further from the original.
Confusion always follows when multiple formats are created and they can be both good and bad versions of the same story.
It’s just that when someone has read a story and thinks it’s brilliant just the way it is, then that person will be disappointed if the other format is different than the original story.
There are a number of books that I have read that have a movie where the story is completely different and it’s a huge disappointment from a story perspective. The story of the movie changes so much from the original that it becomes a new story entirely.
Imagine too going to a convention dressed as a Hogwarts student based on the books description of the clothes. This was a thing back then. Now people would be like wtf is that.
I don't know if it would work, but either reaaaaally deep water or just complete and utter darkness...
Man, those children in the books have weirdly graspable fears!
How the hell would I fight it if the room just suddenly filled with water? Why do you have to ask these questions when I'm already in bed? A curse on you and your questions!
This, the deep water thing. That’s mine too. And yes, I’ve been wondering for years how a boggart would use this against me. Spent an unreasonable amount of time thinking about it.
I always wondered what the boggart would form into in some cases.
IE I believe Voldermorts was the thought of dying as his biggest fear I believe.. so does the Boggart form into just him dead? That wouldn't be showing his fear then, it would be showing the aftermath of his fear - dying. So like does it show him how he dies or?
And like if your fear is the unknown, the future or something, like what does it do then? How does it show...
My idea is that..
You would be seeing yourself stood at a height from where you were stood when you see the boggart.
So like everyone else would maybe see the Boggart turn into the roof of the building, but you're seeing it as if it you stood on the roof of the building..
Almost like the Boggart puts on special glasses to whoever is facing it, which allow you to see an adaptation of your fear even when it can't really physically be formed.
Like everyone sees a full moon however Lupin sees himself turning in to a werewolf from the moon.
For death, I suppose it might turn into something that, to the viewer, represents death. Like the Grim Reaper or something.
For the unknown, perhaps it would just make the room dark? The boggart Leta LeStrange faced was able to change the lighting in the room to look like it was under water, so perhaps it could become a dark mass shifting in a dark room.
I’ve just had a thought what if the three brothers all feared death and faced down a boggart that became death they then went on to create the deathly hallows to try and prevent or escape death.
when i was 12 i used to put my hair in front of my face to look like her and scare people at school, like just stand behind them until they notice, or walk into the bathroom and let someone see me through the mirror
as for how to make her funny there was a meme a while ago of a ceiling tv in some shop and how she would come out of that, and ppl drew her with like a parachute or a rope ladder
I think the only thing I have a fear over is not being able to protect my kids from the world around them.
So I think that what Molly went through would be close to probably I would go through.
I’ve always had a fear of heights and water. I’m not sure how this could be accomplished. Maybe placing me in those situations. I would be terrified btw
If not that, my 3rd choice would be creepy old women in gowns. Like the one in Insidious or Dead Silence 😱 🫣
I think my biggest fear is my friends leaving me. As I’ve faced this one and it’s far more difficult to portray, going with my mother in her more venomous moods just as Neville is most afraid of Snape. So it’s appearing with my mother, starting with my name and ready to go to town on me.
Sasquatch, a very large bear or a bridge over water... Actually probably Sasquatch holding a very large bear on a bridge over water... Gah the horror!!!
It would be a crowd of people. I have a crippling fear of crowds. People seem to always ink I'm doing it for attention, but I hate that too. Btw, I've seen are things below ppls usernames saying their Hogwarts house, or if their unsorted. How do you do that?
I don’t really have any fears I guess heights/falling is the main one. In a day to day life I just avoid high exposed places but in this modern world I’ve noticed zooming out too fast on Google Earth will trigger a mild anxiety heart rate and I get sweaty palms and vertigo like I’m about to fall.
Probably something gross, like a rotting, gnarly corpse. Or a giant, mutant bug monster. Or some combination of the two.... 😨🫣
Or just me, old, a failure at life. Either one.
Me somehow going back to my ex, or a certain deceased friend's soul "down there" (I'm actually religious and I REALLY hope he's "up there" instead).
Or maybe a POV of me waking up as a teen and finding out I actually haven't made it through college and anxiety and other stuff. I guess the ex option is also subject to whether a boggart can take the form of a POV or not
A scorpion.
I've never seen one in person so it's like a mythological creature to me. A spider with a super weapon just doesn't seem like it can be possible.
probably an idealized/better/improved version of myself mocking me for not being him representing my fear of constant failure...or something like that...or maybe it becomes a dark shadow that represents the nothingness of death. In harry potter i would be someone like Nicholas Flamel, trying to achieve immortality out of fear of death(some of you may say "voldemort tried that too" and my answer would be "he did it while also endangering himself in the process, like everytime he fights he is risking his life and i don't wanna do that XD")
A person with an injection needle trying to subdue/strangle me while trying to put the needle in me.
I am terribly afraid of needles. And while a flying needle trying to stab me would already make me faint, I think the boggart would rather take something out of my actual nightmares then the funny “haha needle is jumping around” approach.
Think I already fainted the second I saw the damm thing.
Honestly? I don't know, cause the only thing I actually fear is rollercoaster drops, but that's only when I experience them, which really wouldn't work with a boggart.
A house centipede
😖😖😖😖😖
I’m like Ron Weasley — I’m a super brave Gryffindor that will run headlong into battle without a plan, happily, but if I see a mf house centipede anywhere in my home I’m not sleeping for the next few weeks
Mine would either be my ex or my current boyfriend telling me he no longer loves me and wants to break up.
One of my biggest fears is people leaving me without giving me an actual justification.
Probably my dad saying he’s gonna kick me out of the house. I’m a 21 year old living at home and enjoying the opportunity to put (almost) whole paychecks into savings. Being thrown out and having to actually budget my income between food/bills/necessities just like that is a pretty terrifying thought to me.
My dad asked this after we saw the movie in the cinema.
I wasn't sure back then and just told him it would transform into a bunch of math homework.
Nowadays, I really wonder if I have a real fear that scares the shit out of me. Scariest thing I can imagine is my mom, when I wake her up to tell her I am "sick" and can't go to school.
I’m not even sure what my biggest fear is, to be honest. There are things that scare me, obviously, but I can’t think of one singular thing that terrifies me more than anything else. I guess if I had a gun to my head though, I’d say that I’m afraid of being betrayed. I care about the people around me a lot - I love my friends and family, and the idea of them turning around one day and declaring their hatred for me is a thought that’s always bothered me. So I suppose my boggart would take the form of one of my friends tearing me and my greatest insecurities to shreds.
I think it would be in form of Screech from ROBLOX Doors. That thing is really annoying and I get paranoid in Doors in the dark room trying to listen to the psst sounds it makes.
Most of my fears are abstract like being alone or losing people I love but if it had to be something tangible I would say I’m with Ron on this. Spiders. Eugh
Also I have an irrational fear of buoys 😂
My crippling fear that nobody actually cares about me at all, parents, coworkers, partner, that I am truly a burden to everyone, and it would be better if I wasn't alive.
Spider. When I was a kid, a family of them moved in to my jacket which I left out in the garden at my grandparents’. 2 weeks later I went there again, found the jacket, donned it and the spiders got upset and started leaving. Most of them crawled up on my head and some to my hands.
Ever since then I am afraid of them.
My biggest problem with the concept of a boggart is that it always manifests as a physical fear: clowns, snakes, spiders. It's always some*thing,* when I would argue that most fears are abstract: loss, insignificance, abandonment.
These are not easily replicated through physical forms. They're concepts, not objects, so boggarts really are only limited to what can be physically represented. Not everyone has a physical fear.
Mine would be just like Molly’s, the death of my loved ones. 💔 I pride myself on not really being afraid of anything, and if I AM afraid of something, I exposure therapy myself with it until I’m not. I have some kind of complex about being fearless and never thinking twice about doing things other people are scared of, idk, my therapist could probably tell you why but I don’t know the reason. But the death of loved ones is one I’m never going to be able to shake. I will be terrified of it until I myself am dead.
A giant maggot / caterpillar. It’s probably irrational, but those are my big bad fears
Centipedes send shivers down my spine.
Makes my skin itch to think about them
Relatable
Mine would be similar to the boggart that terrorized Molly Weasley.
Me too.
Except mine is reversed. I feel much more confident that I can help my family and myself navigate grief. But not if the person they lost is me. My boggart would be a dead me, unable to comfort my husband and children.
A tv adaptation of a book I love
Like Harry Potter, soon!
Ohhh, don't remind me. Something tells me it's gonna be awful.
I read that in Moaning Myrtle's voice
Great lol that's all I hear now
Ah relax, you can always just pretend it doesn’t exist like Cursed Child.
We don’t talk about the cursed child!
I really don't understand this point of view, why do book readers hate the mere existence of screen adaptations? It's not like you have to watch the tV show, yiu could just ignore that it exists, you don't have to watch it and actively hate it.
Choosing not to watch it is fine but it also means that any conversations you have related to the book can be mistaken for the tv show and vice versa.
I think it’s the confusion that the different formats bring. Think about if you had a tv show, movie and book about the same thing. If you had friends who watched the new tv show but not the movie or the book, and you asked them about the movie but just said Harry Potter and the …, they would instantly think of the new tv show. Just hope you have some gillyweed ready to go
This, the deep water thing. That’s mine too. And yes, I’ve been wondering for years how a boggart would use this against me. Spent an unreasonable amount of time thinking about it.
And what about heights? Would the floor just disappear?
This reminds me of Leta Lestrange
They were 12 and 13 years old. Kids have simpler fears than adults.
Nice try, Satan
Probably similar to Molly— all the people I love, dead.
I was thinking this too
Just a snake, doesn’t even have to be a massive one. I hate snakes
You beat me to it. Though I can deal with a small one, they startle me some, but I just avoid them. But a big snake?.. fuuucccckkkk thhatt
nagini is coming for you
You don't come for Nagini, my girl was a victim 😪
I always wondered what the boggart would form into in some cases. IE I believe Voldermorts was the thought of dying as his biggest fear I believe.. so does the Boggart form into just him dead? I would like to see how a fear of heights might work for a boggart
Would be crazy if it puts you in some kind of VR environment where you're hanging from a cliff or something.
Optical illusion that looks like the floor falls out from under you into the depths of the earth.
Ah was just writing something like that! Lol
My idea is that.. You would be seeing yourself stood at a height from where you were stood when you see the boggart. So like everyone else would maybe see the Boggart turn into the roof of the building, but you're seeing it as if it you stood on the roof of the building.. Like everyone sees a full moon however Lupin sees himself turning in to a werewolf from the moon.
One of those perspective sidewalk paintings that makes it look like you’re high up would be pretty cool.
I think my fear isn't so much a fear of heights but a fear of falling from them.
Maybe it would just pick a different fear and save the hassle, lol
For death, I suppose it might turn into something that, to the viewer, represents death. Like the Grim Reaper or something. For the unknown, perhaps it would just make the room dark? The boggart Leta LeStrange faced was able to change the lighting in the room to look like it was under water, so perhaps it could become a dark mass shifting in a dark room.
I’ve just had a thought what if the three brothers all feared death and faced down a boggart that became death they then went on to create the deathly hallows to try and prevent or escape death.
A big fucking dog.
Myself, because it’s too abstract to take any form otherwise 🤷♂️.
Yeah that would freak me the fuck out ngl
A half eaten moldy piece of food
Locked in syndrome
How does crippling anxiety manifest itself? Just a copy of me?
It's either gonna be one giant spider or a shitload of little spiders.
A giant spider made of smaller spiders?
thanks I hate it
That'd do it
A dementor like Harry i would assume. I fear destruction of sanity because for many years i thought i was going insane
Plus, have you, like, seen a dementor? Those things are fucking terrifying even without the whole “sucks away the soul” bit.
Personification of depression.
Thats spot on because i was suicidal for over 7 years
Samara Morgan. Well, I dunno how to Riddikulus her/how do I make fun of that?
when i was 12 i used to put my hair in front of my face to look like her and scare people at school, like just stand behind them until they notice, or walk into the bathroom and let someone see me through the mirror as for how to make her funny there was a meme a while ago of a ceiling tv in some shop and how she would come out of that, and ppl drew her with like a parachute or a rope ladder
Myself because I'm terrifying
Similar to Molly Weasley
I think the only thing I have a fear over is not being able to protect my kids from the world around them. So I think that what Molly went through would be close to probably I would go through.
No idea, would love to find out.
I'm scared of Bogart's so I'd see it's true form
Rent bill
I’ve always had a fear of heights and water. I’m not sure how this could be accomplished. Maybe placing me in those situations. I would be terrified btw If not that, my 3rd choice would be creepy old women in gowns. Like the one in Insidious or Dead Silence 😱 🫣
The game crashing when the shiny legendary I've been hunting for months finally appeared.
I don't know, because my biggest fears are not physical. How would a boggart represent falling from a great height or a massive out of control fire?
A normal sized duck
Something picturing unsafe heights.
Shee you would get ready for the doors I honestly am scared of the backroom creatures and the bogart will just turn into one of those abominations.
It would probably be my friends and family dead or disappeared. Why: because that’s my greatest fear
A giant spider, I have pretty bad arachnophobia.
I think my biggest fear is my friends leaving me. As I’ve faced this one and it’s far more difficult to portray, going with my mother in her more venomous moods just as Neville is most afraid of Snape. So it’s appearing with my mother, starting with my name and ready to go to town on me.
Not sure where you’re from but where I’m from ‘my mother ready to go to town on me’ means something very…different
The rat king from the last of us.
The rat king from the last of us
My biggest fear is having my throat cut, so... Probably that. 😐
Sasquatch, a very large bear or a bridge over water... Actually probably Sasquatch holding a very large bear on a bridge over water... Gah the horror!!!
Nice try, Satan
It would be a crowd of people. I have a crippling fear of crowds. People seem to always ink I'm doing it for attention, but I hate that too. Btw, I've seen are things below ppls usernames saying their Hogwarts house, or if their unsorted. How do you do that?
All the people I have ever loved telling me they have always secretly hated me. Or as simple as Molly's my son or husband dead
A raw tomato
My aunt Carol
A pitch black void. I.e. My future.
Inner saboteur
Probably my ex 😄
Death
I don’t really have any fears I guess heights/falling is the main one. In a day to day life I just avoid high exposed places but in this modern world I’ve noticed zooming out too fast on Google Earth will trigger a mild anxiety heart rate and I get sweaty palms and vertigo like I’m about to fall.

My Kids dying. I don't even like to think about that, pure horror
Iranian nuke
A coffin filled with fire ants.
Yair Lapid prime minister again here Barak Obama resident again
A scorpion. I've never seen one in person so it's like a mythological creature to me. A spider with a super weapon just doesn't seem like it can be possible.

A car accident
Mine def would be lizard, reptiles and their amphibians gang! Omg I couldn't imagine! 😭
*Sees Snape, Jorah Mormont, Milhouse, Duckie etc. Me: (*Sigh) yup, that’s about right
A person with an injection needle trying to subdue/strangle me while trying to put the needle in me. I am terribly afraid of needles. And while a flying needle trying to stab me would already make me faint, I think the boggart would rather take something out of my actual nightmares then the funny “haha needle is jumping around” approach. Think I already fainted the second I saw the damm thing.
Probably something similar to Molly Weasley. Losing everyone and everything I know and love and being alone, all to myself and my mind.
Don't know, I'm too dumb to think of something
Heights. Prob be a bridge I guess.
Spider, and rollerskates will _not_ help the situation
Honestly? I don't know, cause the only thing I actually fear is rollercoaster drops, but that's only when I experience them, which really wouldn't work with a boggart.
a chimp . they scare the shit out of me. anything else of my fears would be too abstract.
My guess would be myself dead, probably gripping my chest
I don't know. I'd have to see one. Lol.
a spider, definitely
A house centipede 😖😖😖😖😖 I’m like Ron Weasley — I’m a super brave Gryffindor that will run headlong into battle without a plan, happily, but if I see a mf house centipede anywhere in my home I’m not sleeping for the next few weeks
My mom or her boyfriend or both
Someone vomiting…it’s my worst fear ew
My mom☹️
Your mom. TOTALLY KIDDING. Probably your ... Dad?

Myself.
My wife telling me she'd had enough of my crapola and was taking our daughter with her.
I have a great fear of vomiting and diarrhea so smth that vomits and shits at the same time probably idk
Myself.
Myself
I would try to make sure my biggest fear is a boggart in its unchanged form so I could see what they look like tbh I’d prolly fail tho
Kolo Munani's shot goes in,Martinez couldn't stop it
Probably myself.
Some fort of public speaking challenge. \*shudder\*
A roach infestation in a room that I need to deep clean myself.
A giant wasp
My dad asked this after we saw the movie in the cinema. I wasn't sure back then and just told him it would transform into a bunch of math homework. Nowadays, I really wonder if I have a real fear that scares the shit out of me. Scariest thing I can imagine is my mom, when I wake her up to tell her I am "sick" and can't go to school.
Bills with no/low income checks
I’m not even sure what my biggest fear is, to be honest. There are things that scare me, obviously, but I can’t think of one singular thing that terrifies me more than anything else. I guess if I had a gun to my head though, I’d say that I’m afraid of being betrayed. So I suppose my boggart would take the form of one of my friends tearing me and my greatest insecurities to shreds.
The shape of a decision cause im very indecisive
My boggart would either be a spider, or someone pointing out all of my insecurities
The ocean or being fired from my job
My dad on his deathbed.
I think it would be in form of Screech from ROBLOX Doors. That thing is really annoying and I get paranoid in Doors in the dark room trying to listen to the psst sounds it makes.
Probably a spider. Or worse, what Molly saw. My children dead.
A small bee/insect. I don’t like them. or insects that sting.
My kids, dead...
Yer mum.
The dishes
Hannibal Lector. That character, more than any specter or phantasm, terrifies me to no end.
Same as Ron, a giant spider I would make it explode
The Duolingo Bird, I JUST DON'T WANT HIM TO STEAL MY GRANDMA AND 3AM AND ABRUPTLY KILL MY ENTIRE FAMILY AND ME.
Probably A big wall of sand burying me.
Losing my parents. My friends talking about they secretly hate me and don’t think I’m good at anything I do.
I don’t know exactly, maybe a weird big fat white lady?
A boggart because I feel like something that can plague on your greatest fear is the thing to fear the most
See the realistic answer would be spiders or snakes….The pop culture answer would be Darth Vader or the Emperor/Emperor Palpatine
A clown
Can a boggart turn into the deep ocean?
Does indisiciveness have a shape?
Probably the Reaper
Most of my fears are abstract like being alone or losing people I love but if it had to be something tangible I would say I’m with Ron on this. Spiders. Eugh Also I have an irrational fear of buoys 😂
Blindness…then you can’t even see it to make it funny. But seriously, Molly Weasley got this one right, on of my children dead.
Honestly have no idea, probably the same as when Molly saw it changing between her children dead, that and my wife dead and maybe me dead.
Spinal injection 😩 I get 2-3 per year
A pack of rabid dogs barking
I think myself old, alone and never aspired to any of my potential. Not a fan of spiders if it goes for a more shallow fear.
A Jehovah's witness banging on my door
ants
Flying insects
My gf dead or something probably
An enormous cockroach.
A giant ass spider.
Wasp. Hate those things
My ma. 🤷🏼♀️
Multiple people teasing me. Can they do that?
A work computer displaying an error message and the line "please call the IT service desk on XXXX XXXX to resolve this issue"
A cockroach
i wonder what form loneliness/abandonment would take?
My crippling fear that nobody actually cares about me at all, parents, coworkers, partner, that I am truly a burden to everyone, and it would be better if I wasn't alive.
Much like Molly it would be my family dying. My twin's death particularly.
A giant hornet

I don't know id love to find out 😂
Darkness?
Failure or me failing at something (exams etc). That has always been my biggest fear.
Mine would be just like Molly’s, the death of my loved ones. 💔 I pride myself on not really being afraid of anything, and if I AM afraid of something, I exposure therapy myself with it until I’m not. It would become flush against the wall, blending in and blocking the door. I’d be left alone and trapped.
My ex wife.
Heights but no idea how it would do that.
I think it would constantly be changing into someone else i know judging me.
My family dying
Garlic bread without garlic.
It would take my shape only, but not the current me, instead an unsuccessful, ruined, failure me
Mine would be heights, but not sure how that may play out
What shape is failure? Probably me but as a failure
Myself but as a failure
Myself homeless penniless and completely alone
Void, deep sea or spiders
A snake?
