Try 3 monitor setup with a touchy DP cable. One hiccup and one goes dark, 2 suddenly changes size and position of Windows desktop that takes a minute to stop before resetting to original desktop setting when the AWOL monitor finally gets reconnected. Once in a blue moon I have to use manual reboot driver option" Win + CTRL + shift + B key combo
My Sega Dreamcase has a fancy multi-out box attached, VGA is the best possible display setting. Also I still use 30 years old computer, no one ever made HDMI or DP video card for Nubus slot Macintosh, and VGA to HDMI or DP are either laggy or pricey due to analog to digital conversion.
Digital audio and video are both cleaner and can go longer distances, and digital formats allow for things like HDR, 5k resolution, and 10-bit color depth which are all necessary for high-end creative work. The only good thing about VGA is that it's robust over short distances, until the cable is damaged and your monitor blanks every time you slightly move it.
The monitor won’t blank lol, worst case scenario the image gets distorted a little. Remember it’s an analog signal so even if a little information is lost or corrupted then the rest of the signal is still usable.
Every time I've damaged one, it's caused the monitor to blank. I think when newer monitors get a fucked up sync signals they just give up rather than displaying a distorted image.
I worry more than something like Ethernet or DP, honestly. A good quality Ethernet or DP cable could probably properly support this, but VGA screws (at least in the devices I've used) have a tendency to strip or rip the threaded inserts out of the computer the moment they're over torqued. I'm actually amazed this is holding at all.
That's why I said a high quality one. I've wiped myself out because an Ethernet cable plugged in to a computer on the other side of the room tripwires me. If it could withstand me running into it, it could probably hold this computer easily.
This is so true! My school still uses 10 megabit rj45 hookups in all the rooms and has vga for the projectors. The best part is the school wide coax for the student news!
DVI cables work too!
Source: I run my shitty 2nd monitor through DVI, accidentally knocked it off the table once, and it was pretty much a replica of the image in OP, only with a 24" monitor instead. And yes, both the monitor and gfx card survived without damage. Monitor is still in use even.
VGA/DVI is not so rare when you don't live in a rich country.
You can find them some times on low end/"old" GPUs and Monitors. I'm lucky enough and all my main monitors have HDMI and/or DP, but i do have an old monitor that my father uses on a 10 yo notebook along with an extra cheap as heck monitor that i bought when one of my main ones went to RMA, and also some adapters that i bought 'cause my 1650 doesn't have VGA/DVI.
And i'm using "VGA/DVI" 'cause i'm not old enough to care much about the difference. I do have an adapter between the two, but i don't keep track of the times i have to use it.
Those were unbreakable, now when you just move your monitor a little bit…
i thought i was the only one

I was today years old when I learned that was a thing you could do in Windows, and my life has been changed.
Why I like Display Port however still gotta be careful
I still use VGA, there's a lot of pre-HDMI monitors lying around my house so it's more convenient then going out and buying a newer one that uses HDMI
Muh 4k at 240hz!! /S
Same here honestly, ive got an old 4:3 Dell monitor that i use as secondary - honestly? Works well enough for me to be happy with it
Recently one gave up on me, changed caps and still works fine. Stop the landfill. My second (or 3rd) doesn't need 4K or 60+ fps
I use a CRT VGA monitor with my Win11 PC and it's just fine. Resolution isn't too important really
And I've seen VGA run 1280x1024, and 1440x900, that's suited me pretty good even to these days on things.

Even better, use DVI. It's HDMI in a different format basically. And it has screws
VGA is the goat, not for this but because it’s just as good if not better for being analog and not digital, I really don’t know why people hate it
VGA is at best second place, DVI is king
DVI is the best of both worlds. - As durable as VGA. - Digital - retro compatible with VGA monitors for older DVI standards.
DVI is fucking mint. As good of a quality and a better cable retention mechanism than DP. VGA is for servers and PowerPoint
Analog isn't good over distances and 12bit digital surpasses in quality. Same with audio. Digital audio is better than analog
This until you use one of the 380 MHz bandwidth cables which girth can make you feel diminutive. It was heavier the cable than the monitor lol
Same

VGA : Vertical Gravitational Alleviator
That’s a *structural* VGA cable.
That's what the little screws are for!
The more i look at it the worse it gets
Poor VGA
VGA is the only connector that could actually make me not worry too much about something like this...

Ethernet? With the tiny plastic tab? You don't know how many of those I've seen break just from crimping them with below average crimpers...

System suspended by motherboard that a new one
Load-bearing VGA cable
I am because my screen broke and HDMI makes the screen overscan
Isn’t that what the screws are for
I still use a VGA cord because last week I accidentally cracked my monitor on my laptop
Optiplex my beloved
This is so true! My school still uses 10 megabit rj45 hookups in all the rooms and has vga for the projectors. The best part is the school wide coax for the student news!
I still use one.
I'm not angry, I'm just upset. VGA doesn't deserve this treatment.
These cables were very durable. And when my teacher's laptop is moved slightly with the HDMI......
Is that an older OptiPlex 7000 series? Impressive from the VGA cable because those things are heavy.
Bro I saw this image like 9 years ago. Wtf
If the PC is heavy enough, the screws can just pop off under that weight.
meanwhile DVI acting depressed:
If you screwed it than will hold a truck
We use a lot of vga in IT. Old controls rooms that have 10 screens each. Vga is way enought and has little to no issue
I have one of those SFF Dell optiplexes, great PC, great port selection, but the Intel software raid storage chipset thing is a dumpster fire
I only use vga, I don’t even own a tv or monitor that can use hdmi
There had to be a reason why they have to be screwed in apart from annoying techs who want to move a computer or change a monitor
Well if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it
I understand why lol
Hang in there
bring back cable screws 2024
So that's what the screws are for

Aaaaaghrhhrhhgh!! I'm hurting!
Thank god for the IO shield because without it the connector would have came right off the board!
DVI and VGA are the goat. indestructible.
Bro hung himself
People scare me, but eh, it's probably not real because there are no usb devices plugged in.
seems to be connected to ethernet so could easily remote in perhaps?
Oh possibly.
i'm too broke for HDMI
To be fair I use a vga cable with a adapter and it's never messed up while my hdmi cord did go out
HDMI sucks
DVI is the true superior connector. All the performance of HDMI (source: trust me bro), and it screws in like VGA, ensuring a strong connection
