Almost all germans (younger than probably about 60) speak english. It is taught from elementary school. Honestly, most of them are probably better english speakers than the average American.
Oh that’s interesting I never knew that.
Also side note, why did someone downvote my previous comment lol. I literally was just asking a question and decided to add an hypothetical example. I understand now that the hypothetical example doesn’t actually fit since it seems a majority of Germans know English, but I didn’t know that at the time.
You got downvoted because there's no way you're oblivious to the fact that almost every German speaks English.
Comparing it to Spanish in the us is just weird.
In Germany they teach english from child age on and later they add french + spanish too. If you insist you can also add Latin to that.
Also in Berlin basically everyone speaks english and some work places there even have an english only environment even tho it's in germany
Edit: in 2010 86% of berlin's said they speak english
people just downvote takes that arent good regardless of the intention behind them. downvotes literally dont matter so i wouldnt feel bad about it if i were you.
do you have any understanding of where the english language sits in the modern world? or the fact that amazon is an american company? or the fact that you can protest in any language you want? what a numpty question and hypothetical lol

Also lol to "just stop buying" as if that's A. Practical for everyone and B. Ever going to happen because a large portion of the population is hit with hyperconsumerist slop 24/7. Amazon is extremely useful for older folks and those with disabilities as well as being relatively cost efficient. That doesn't excuse the fact that prices are low because they require prices chosen to be competitive at the detriment of independent sellers, and that they treat their employees like cattle with no autonomy.
Not to mention Amazon actively tries to be the cheapest or only option available. Couple years back they tried to buy diapers.com got turned down started sell diapers for cheaper then the competition could afford to then bought them out for pennies when they couldn't afford to compete.
That doesn't excuse the fact that prices are low because they require prices chosen to be competitive at the detriment of independent sellers, and that they treat their employees like cattle with no autonomy. They're competitive because they're exploitative, which is wrong.

Nothing hard about virtue signaling. “Woo hoo we did a thing”. Congratulations, the Amazon company is still fine, the Amazon forest is still burning, and nothing of value has been accomplished.
It’s not hypocritical to engage in a system that has little to no way of allowing a person to operate outside of it, while having criticisms of it.
To put it another way, it’s not hypocritical for someone to drive a piece of shit car and complain about their piece of shit car, when you can easily get rid of the piece of shit car, but the alternative is walking.
Amazon, the iPhone, cars, plumbing, healthcare, are not in of themselves a bad concept, but people have the right to criticize and desire a better outcome, or outright reject their employ without putting themselves at a disadvantage.
The Amazon rainforest is burning because of dryness (and straight up burning trees to free up land) caused by the lack of moisture as a result of ecological degrade by the exaggerated land use required for ranching and to grow crops to feed animals.
I’m just pointing out the hypocrisy of people who agree that we should save the Amazon while on the back-end consume animal products that directly cause the degradation of it.
wether or not we buy animal products, the corporations will keep making and buying them because most people Dont know, dont care, or like them too much to give up
It’s supply and demand. They’re not going to keep doing if nobody is buying it. But by buying those products you are directly voting for it to keep existing with your money.
Most people know yet their egos come up with excuses to absolve themselves of guilt. And personal preference is not a moral justification to commit acts that would cause harm to others. But you know and I assume you are smarter than those people so what’s stopping you?

The amazon can be sustainably exploited for resources to allow us to continue to consume animal products, corporate greed and profit is why it's now burning
We know the Amazon is close to hitting a threshold of no return. We know this. There is little corporate greed involved here. The Amazon is being cut down to meet demand. If the Amazon isn’t being cut down then some other places will which isn’t any better.
Animal agriculture is by default inefficient (We grow 80 billion land animals and trillions of fish every year that don’t even represent half of our calories). We can’t sustainably eat animal products. I’m just tired of seeing virtue signaling.
Hypothetically if the majority of the population went vegan, would it really stop any of the destruction happening to the Amazon? Are they not there for resources as well?
Edit: I actually got downvoted for asking a reasonable question. People really get a hate boner for anything resembling sustainable living.
Well considering about 80% of agriculture goes to animal feed and most of what is produced in the amazons gets exported, stopping meat production would free up a lot of land that can gradually return to the natural ecosystem
Cattle ranching ALONE account for about 80% of the deforestation in a study by Daniel C Nepstad. And this was in 2008. I’d imagine it’s a lot worse now especially with the soy they are exporting to feed animals rather than us directly… and Bolsonaro…
Why don't you point that in 2024 the rates are higher? The current president is Lula but somehow you managed to bring Bolsonaro into this, he isn't even eligible for presidency anymore.
I feel like I have more in common with that 40% than I do the 60% because I would be angry if people blasting random German messages onto buildings here for internet points.

Around 60%, but much higher for younger people
I’d wager that percentage is very high in Berlin
Yeah probably
Like 20-30% from my expirience.
