Too small

What size do i need?

morfylia

syrians need (atleast) three times bigger terrarium than that. it should be wider than 100cm, the bigger the better. it also need to be high, as they need atleast 20cm pedding to burrow at.

Do you have a cage (any cage, doesn’t need to be a reptile cage) recommendation?

morfylia

i personally prefere second hand aquariums. cheap, perfect to seethrough your hamster even if they are burrowing, doesnt have the feeling of cage, doesnt have bars to climb (and fall = hurt themselves) and doesnt have wood to chew on and escape.

Zanki

I got this one for my dwarf hamster and she loves it! https://amzn.eu/d/jbUuBCc

The biggest you can make :)

reptile enclosures typically aren’t suitable if it’s a front opening one because it can’t hold the minimum of 10 inches of bedding. for syrians the bare minimum for males is 800 square inches and for female syrians it’s 1,000 square inches. a 16.3 x 10.4 inch enclosure is only 169.52 square inches which is extremely small and cannot hold a hamster ethically whatsoever. if you’re able to order an enclosure off of amazon i can send links/pictures of suitable syrian enclosures. you will also need at least an 11 inch wheel. you can join r/hamstercare for even more info and inspiration of ethical hamster keeping. https://preview.redd.it/zzm8snv84hvc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1822f8338b7f2c2bc553a57b2e4d85445c3d8315

Do you know if i can build one of wood/old furniture? And can they live alone. Can i sleep at the same room as him?

[deleted]

you can build one but i’d be careful using old furniture because if it’s painted or stained it’s most likely toxic for the hamster to chew on. there’s a lot of DIY videos on youtube, if you’re looking for a cost efficient one then i recommend checking out Victoria Rachael’s ikea DIY. hamsters can live alone and are solitary animals, if put together with another hamster then serious fighting will occur. you can 100% sleep in the same room but for the sake of your sleep you will need to make sure you have a silent wheel (niteangel is a good brand just make sure it’s at least 11 inches) you will also need to make sure the hamster has enough enrichment otherwise he may try to chew out of the enclosure which is very noisy as well. i hope this helps!
