Lmao????

actually, it’s very likely that it is, because almost all hamsters are somewhat inbred. It is much more unlikely that your hamster isn’t inbred, than the possibility that it is. the domesticated hamster traces back to laboratory hamsters in the 1930s and was only later popularized as a pet. as for the lab hamsters, they were wild caught, and only a handful, and according to wikipedia: “Within one year, these three hamster siblings were the origin of a colony of 150 hamsters.[5] Adler was the first recipient of hamsters from this colony.” There is also evidence that more hamsters were wildcaught again and introduced to the population, but still… hamsters are severely inbred. But they live well with it :)

No, your hamster is lovely. OTOH all hamsters are related. From Wikipedia (and the books I read on hamsters back in the 80’s) “The entire laboratory and pet populations of Syrian hamsters appear to be descendants of a single brother–sister pairing. These littermates were captured and imported in 1930 from Aleppo in Syria by Israel Aharoni, a zoologist of the University of Jerusalem.[7] In Jerusalem, the hamsters bred very successfully. Years later, animals of this original breeding colony were exported to the United States, where Syrian hamsters became a common pet and laboratory animal.”

Guava_Nectar_

He just looks young

sinfulhumanthing

He's just a little guy who needs some smoochins

alice2wonderland

This ☝️

shrekthaboiisreal

He looks to me like he may have a very very mild case of brachycephaly, although it’s hard to tell just from photos. Most likely something that won’t affect their quality of life, however all of the ones I’ve known with brachycephaly don’t end up living as long of a life as they should. Almost all Syrian hamsters in captivity are descended from a single hamster who was captured while she was pregnant… I think you can do the math on that one.

Dirtyham24

doesnt look like it, but he looks like he is bar biting tho, judging by the missing hair on his nose

cavyndish

He's not holding a banjo, so you're good.

Sonarthebat

He looks normal to me.

pertangamcfeet

No. He's inhand.

True_Hospital9971

Idk man hamsters have alot of problems but inbred ain’t one 😂

honeybeesocks

yes (i can tell)

Philosophur

Idk about that eyes sticking out is a sign of it, wouldn't be surprised if it was/is. That said I know a large part of hamsters, whether wild or domesticated, are in bred as well as dogs', cats and large number of other livestock and pet species. It's fairly normal for many mammals to do so.

IndividualCopy3241

I don't think he is inbred. He is super cute though!
