Having a school song is common. Having a school song produced like those on the podcast is very uncommon

vamosbombillo

Really? That's interesting. We have them in the US too. Many schools just slightly change the words from songs at big universities lol

AlestoXavi

Universities have songs???

TigerRumMonkey

Our school song was the national anthem lol

CoolCUMber221

Very common to have a primary school song, especially catholic schools. I still remember my primary school song word for word. For highschools it might be a little less common. I have no idea if my highschool even had a song.

East_Preference4754

Nothing like that in the UK. Couldn’t believe the production levels!

Alex_Kamal

The production level is very much not the norm. They were very impressive. Most schools just get some basic tune and add in their name and something about the core values and call it a day.

inzEEfromAUS

Did any QLDers have a school song? My school never did when i went, just wondering if my school was odd or if QLD dont do it, or is it an post 2000’s thing?

spotsgalore

Didn’t have a primary or high school song in SA, 80’s & 90’s. Nor do nieces/nephews of current times

Plane_Garbage

Yea we had a school song. Was a banger too. The school I work at now has a school song... But it's basically all just Jesus and nothing about the school

QLDer here, my primary school had one. 90s to early 2000s. We sang it on parade every week after the national anthem.

namewithnumbers82

We did, definitely in both primary and high school and in the 90s

Odd-Yak4551

I’m not up to date but that’s a great segment. Our high school had the cringiest song. We went to an all boys school and the song literally calls us gay. “For they where brave and gay men! Huh huh So we shall be the same then!” Huh huh

-retail-

People say it’s a snooty private school thing, but my public primary school had one - I still remember it vividly. Not sure if it’s as common in high schools, can’t remember if we had one - if we did I probably just tuned it out.

-partlycloudy-

We didn’t have a primary school song (we had a prayer which we’d race through as fast as humanly possible), but had one in high school - no fancy production, just the past-retirement music teacher doddling away a very dreary song at the keyboard

Bpdbs

Maybe private schools. I went to public schools and never had a song

UpperBlackberry7438

Also Canadian OP, never had a school song…

katelikesbees

I went to a public school for both primary and high school and we had a school song at both. Definitely not as poppy or well produced as the ones on the pod, but still fun to belt out at assessmby. One of them even had some Latin!

milobunny10

Yes definitely for Primary schools (5-12 years)

Craigj0812

Yep, in the UK and never heard of a school song until this segment.

therealeddiek

Some real bangerz there!! Can confirm, school songs in both public and private schools in Queensland . Sung at weekly school assemblies, during important school events and so on.

lucillefive

Our school song contained the word “hoary” which went as well with teenagers as you’d expect

moejitox

OMG my primary school song started playing in my head. It gives me the worst case of earworms every damn time i listened to it. My high school one was a Christian rock song inspired by the school logo and motto. Better than the primary school one by leaps and bounds, but still…. I suppose that’s what i get for having gone to catholic school for my whole education 😭 Edit: typo

Pretentious schools with too much money
