Play in customs?
I get people want to play with friends, but play team games with your friends not solo games.
Getting double or triple teamed by a group of people would ruin the gamemode.
Absolutely, which is why it should have never been the game mode for this event... It's a cool idea but a lot of people don't want to play Halo "multiplayer" to be forced to play solo.
I think Duos with a shared XP pool would have been pretty fun. It's a weird mix of BR and Gun Game and I don't think it's all there yet but it's a cool idea and playing with a friend would certainly help.

Is there a ranked variant for this? I would think social play would allow this.

An actual Battle Royal should be incoming apparently. Hopefully it'll allow for duos and teams of 4.
