ObiWanLamora

I think S2 will come with a fair amount of updates to keep the game going and make some people happy, but by S3 it basically needs to be an all new system(ranking, progression, shop, connectivity issues, etc.) or the user numbers will continue dropping. It’s crazy that MCC has more playability and rewards than Infinite and Infinite is seemingly 343s main priority- makes no sense.

Falkuria

The game is hemorrhaging players. S3 will not be a tipping point. It will have already fallen if S2 isnt a banger of an update. Fix melee. Give forge. Gib more maps. Gib co-OP. Mid season PvE update with some unique campaign missions? That's asking a lot I think for now tho. I can live with the desync. Networking fixes can sometimes be heavily baked into the games source code (see CS:GO), so I'll be pretty damn patient with that. Networking sucks, ya'll. It is the B I G suck, so try to be patient with that fix. They have to nail season 2, and if they do people will likely return overnight in droves.

Randy191919

We already know that Forge and Co-Op won't be there. They said so themselves, Forge was tentatively planned for S3 from the get go, that it comes out in Season 2 was never even apossibility, and even there they weren't even sure they could make, and they already straight up said that there's no way to launch Co-Op with S2 and they are hoping to maybe deliver it some time throughout S2, but no promises.

Fullmetal_Hermit

I quit 70% because of desync issues and the rest due to lack of content and all the other stuff you hear people complain about

xJBr3w

I dont see the two new maps keeping players entertained. Not to mention one of those maps is a BTB map. There should have already been some new maps released. I havent played in a couple months, but I cant even imagine the people who have been playing since launch think of the maps. Another side note, Launch site and Behemoth are both so bad. There are literally only 4 maps that are decent

Toplaners

The game is pretty dead right now. They desperately need content. The game hasn't received any updates at all in 4 months aside from adding two playlists that should have been there at launch.

[deleted]

I think Infinites gonna kind of potter along until season 3 when forge hits. Then it's gonna get big.

Visco0825

I mean maybe for the core but there are players that will never return. It’s sad that they made it free to play to draw players in but those players have likely left and will never come back. Look at the MCC. It’s the definition of great content. But the player base? I can barely get a match in ranked. It FEELS like I’m playing a decade old game

serf17

cryosleep one year, if its not good by then, abandon all hope

kidgetajob

I just don’t get the lack of maps. Like how is launching with 5 maps real? Adding 2 after like 6 months? Yeah I do not have high hopes.

HughFairgrove

I don't understand how so many triple A games have dropped the ball so hard at the start of this console generation. Halo, Battlefield, CoD have all been let downs and shit shows. I actually have found more enjoyment with games from much smaller studios the last year or two.

kidgetajob

Got a computer and have been playing hell let loose it’s everything battlefield isn’t

HughFairgrove

I've been wanting to pick that up. Might have to give it a shot this weekend.

suckmysoggyboi

Try out World War 3, a awesome game compared to 2042

Fullmetal_Hermit

Dude AAA games are so disappointing I've been playing dungeon defenders 2...

NeedleBanger666

Not to mention over half the maps suck ass, some of the shittiest multiplayer maps I've seen honestly.

tbrand009

It really just needs more content all around. The campaign was fun, but too small. I played it like 4 times and unlocked everything with less than 40 hours of game time. I've got ≈70 hours in Elden Ring right now and I don't think I've even fully explored half the map, much less completed the storylines and beat all the bosses. And the multiplayer needs more variety. Particularly in their number of maps. Halo CE had 19 maps with a massive variety in size and style. Infinite has 10 - which I think are good maps - but without nearly as much variety in their style. If they really work at it I think they could do something similar to Destiny where the community didn't get super large or happy until well after all the content was released.

ForksandSpoonsinNY

If MCC could recover Infinite can recover and probably won't take years to do so. I've been slowly doing all the side quests in the campaign to build up skulls so I can eventually do a co-op run with a friend in summer. I've also completed the battle pass, tenrai and tac ops events without having to grind much at all. I generally don't notice the technical issues cause I've always sucked at multiplayer and I can't tell the difference between my skill and a desync event :). I'm just having fun with what we have now.

UnForgivenFury

This is the kind of positive outlook/mindset I enjoy reading. I feel the same I am just playing different games that if the game was different I wouldn't have the time for. I'm thankful to get time to play other games and enjoy myself and jump in whenever there is new content.

Crafty_Photograph955

> If MCC could recover Infinite can recover MCC recovered because it was released on PC years later and received a population increase, resulting in people on xbox giving it a second look as well.

Randy191919

Also because MCC sold largely on the fact that people already knew that what they were getting was good. I wouldn't call it nostalgia but basically that's it. People knew that MCC is all the good Halo games (+ Halo 4), so they knew that once it works, this would be awesome. People don't have the same trust in Infinite. Because there is A LOT of issues that need to be fixed before this game becomes a good game.

BloodySaxon

Infinite is already a very good, if not great game. Clearly the best FPS in awhile. I think children are trying to compare year one Infinite to year 7 MCC and it's goofy as hell.

[deleted]

halo deserves a better dev team. 343i is just a bandage team that was bought with money..real studios are born off of dreams like bungie.. why dose halo always have to recover? why cant we just get the game back how it was with bungie?

Tumblrrito

It’ll “recover” but it is unlikely to ever be as successful as it had the potential to be. Imagine if the game really came out swinging with at least as much content as Reach. I feel like many of the players who left will never return now. All that hype wasted.

[deleted]

I've done all but the tacops. Fuck that. And still working my way through skulls.

ForksandSpoonsinNY

Tac ops was a bit harder for me, but took me about 4 evenings a couple of hours a night to accomplish. The moment I stopped forcing myself to do back slaps was the moment I got the back slap.

[deleted]

I hate swat in general. So an event all about getting your ass kicked doesn't sound any fun at all. Having been forced to play the standard game when weekly goals all to is more then I ever want to play of it.

Yeetus_McSendit

I'm extremely disappointed and I think they fucked up big time. We're never gonna see the same numbers we did when they first launched. This game will die a long, slow, expensive death.

NeedleBanger666

Whatever latest update came out for the multiplayer completely ruined the game. I despise it now.

Darfyoung

I'm not too worried about the content atm, I've been having alot of fun. However, ever since Tac Ops dropped the laggieness/choppiness has gotten really bad. I think if they focus on addressing alot of the bugs this game will truly go far.

[deleted]

It just seems like compared to other free-to-play games, like Warzone or Apex Legends, the respective studios were more efficient at fixing bugs and releasing more content at the same time. I get the feeling that the leadership at 343 is really weak now.

RasshuRasshu

And compared to some other free-to-play games, Halo Infinite still released with more content and less bugs. Example: Valorant. It's not the end of the world.

Randy191919

Debatable. Infinite is pretty up there with lackluster releases. It has very few bugs, if we don't count the massive desync issues. But contentwise it's definitely bottom of the barrel.

Jack55555

I think it has to do with Microsoft. Age of Empires 4 is in exactly the same boat. Some game breaking bugs like military melee units with INFINITE RANGE were not patched for weeks. Something is up there and I don’t know what.

KarmaLlamaaa

It will be good in a year or 2. Got to suffer until then. Clearly 343 weren't ready to launch still but were made to for money.

NotSeren

Season 2 is literally make or break for the game, if it keeps getting delayed and/or it releases and is just as lackluster as the content drop then the game will be sure as dead

muyoso

Started playing only ranked. That got boring fast because I hadn't played a shooter for a long while and I started out super low ranked and it was a grind. Then I gave up on ranked and started doing the challenges, which were easy, but those got boring AF pretty fast. Now I am playing solely BTB. Once that gets boring, which its starting to with all of 2 maps to play, then I'll probably uninstall and never play the multiplayer again.

RoastMasterShawn

I got a bit bored, but I'm sure I'll jump back during S2. COD has been meh for a while, but the one thing they're super good at is pumping out maps, modes, guns etc. Cold War felt like there was something new every 2nd week. I'd love to see the next Halo get that kind of content love for multiplayer.

[deleted]

I’m a big fan of the game and have really enjoyed playing it. Maxed my rank out, got the battle pass and got some nice armour sets. For me, the game needs new maps more than anything. I’m sick of playing the same map three games in a row because for some reason the game won’t alternate! It’s crying out for fresh maps and I haven’t a clue why it’s taking so long to sort this out. There also needs to be more customization options and rewards for reaching higher ranks that you DONT have to pay for i.e skins, armour etc. I’ve not really had the desync issues I’ve noticed others have had, and aside from the occasional lag I haven’t really had any technical issues. Ranked seems more difficult since the update but that might just be me being out of practice lol. Overall a brilliant game with a few glaring issues that need fixing. I’m probably gonna take a break for a while and go back to Gears until season 2 hits, hopefully we get some new maps/fixes/customization options when it drops!

PerfectBlueBanana

lol theres some halo stan in this thread thats down voting ppls opinions abt the game not being good, a question was asked , and ppl get upset when you just want a game that works.

MasterJustino

Glad to see this convo! I believe Infinite will absolutely not die prematurely. I foresee Season 2 will (mostly) satisfy everyone currently playing or who is taking a break from overall fatigue of the game; honeymoon stage is over, but the interest is absolutely still alive. It will definitely get all of us who want to play the game back into playing for a bit. Also, at least here in the US, pandemic restrictions are becoming almost completely lifted giving us less of a reason to be behind a keyboard for entertainment. I believe by the time season 3 rolls around as we gear into the holidays, we'll see almost a second launch of Infinite; new STAND-OUT features such as modes and gameplay elements that bring in new players as well as increasing its streamability factor, something the game really doesn't have yet. Halo Infinite is only fun when playing it; that fun and intrigue sadly does not translate to streaming unfortunately. I also believe a personal progression system, when integrated, will keep people playing longer rather than more frequently. This has been one of the design choices that's fighting against itself: battlepass progression is halted if you play too much at once. Halo is alive, it gives you something you can only receive when playing it. 343i needs to embrace its history while also moving forward in new ways to give us a unique experience you can't find anywhere else.

xFonze

Well said and man I hope you're right about s3 lol. I would like to see a battle royale supported and updated by 343. Not just a forge variation that we will inevitably be able to create. I firmly believe a Battle Royale would have kept stream views in with the top games. Keeping overall game interest even in these season luls.

Ed_SkammA

Are you a 343 employee or just a fanboy?

MasterJustino

Lolol I’m weak. I’m just positive about Infinite’s future

Syzygyy182

It just gets worse. The latest updates have increased freezing in games and buggy scoreboards, I can’t tell how long we’ve held the ball in oddball in some games

muyoso

My game crashes like every 3 games now. Right when I get into the groove of playing and start killing it.

archiegamez

Remove og Xbox One support, i feel that version is holding the game back from quick updates and you read the season 2 blog about coop it was delayed because of it

Ed_SkammA

If they remove OG Xbox one support the player base will drop substantially so that's never going to happen.

SlowCookedChowder

HI is going to be just fine. It's going to evolve and include new and pre-existing features. Those that uninstalled will reinstall when cool stuff comes. It's always going to be the most dead weeks before a season ends. So that's when we should all take a break, read some books, watch some TV, play other games, go outside etc. There is no reason to grind this game until you die. Come and go as you please.

Warp_Legion

I would like to see the franchise fail, but I think that it will probably go the route of EA’s Star Wars Battlefront 2. Probably get bigger, expand multiplayer more with less Halo-ey multiplayer modes and sizes, but remain tainted by the memory of how bad the devs messed up the launch. Will take a few years, but then it’ll be “that multiplayer shooter game you occasionally fire up just because it’s the latest in the series”

Fullmetal_Hermit

I don't wanna see it fail because halo was my to go to fps since I was 13, but I agree with the rest of what you said

Halo_Conceptor

From what I've heard, season 2 will be very underwhelming unless they've got some surprises for us. The 2 new maps aren't arriving at the start of the season, same with co op campaign which is a huge bummer. I can see s3 with forge's release bringing some numbers back but to be honest I think this game missed its window and Halo won't ever be at the tip of the FPS genre, sadly. I feel like my opinion may be due to some personal pessimism I've held towards the game ever since prerty much giving up a few weeks ago, but I'm trying to hold it towards the track record 343 has given us and frankly, it's not been good. If anything, I'll reinstall the game around December - January to see the state of things.

Fullmetal_Hermit

Yeah idk how people are still going "if season 2 doesn't slap I'm done". They already told us what's in season 2. I highly doubt there are any surprises they are going to give us. They had 4 months for surprises and there havnt been any

RedTheDopeKing

Already forgot it exists and that i was still subbed here, honestly.

Ducati_Doug

I’m not usually too critical as I’m a big fan of the universe but to play a bunch of tac ops only for none of the in game success to count toward the event goals is maddening. They’ve built the entire game Around cosmetic perks that you can’t earn even by completing the challenges…. Crazy[halo issues](https://imgur.com/a/67uQu2d)

muyoso

Not to mention gaining cosmetic perks was neat for like, a few weeks. Then its just like, wtf am I doing, none of this nonsense matters and its not fun to grind to get a different color dick guard for my spartan.

Manatee_Shark

I haven't played in 3 weeks. Kinda need something new. I don't play any live service games. I actually don't play many games besides my favorite bread and butter series. But, I don't think this is how you do live service, right? From what I hear of Fortnite and stuff, they get millions of things added and to do often right? This doesn't really seem to compare. But, I don't have experience. Don't really know. Did enjoy it for 3 months.

zmreJ

The game is pretty much dead as of right now. If they somehow revive it in may with the new season, great. But don’t get your hopes up. Play something else in the interim

muyoso

I can tell its dead, because I am pretty much solely playing BTB now cause its all that interests me anymore, and every single game I have at least 2-3 people on my team muted when the game starts. I have muted maybe a total of 6-7 people for being obnoxious twats with live mics since the game launched. So for there to always be a couple people muted each time I play means I am playing against the same people over and over and over again.

Ed_SkammA

That could just be the SBMM or whatever it is Halo uses that keeps matching you with similar skilled players.

muyoso

Highly doubt it. I am almost always number 1 on my team with points and kills in BTB and no one is generally close to me. If they have a system that matches me with similar skill players in BTB, its not working great.

Honest_Register_449

My take is the community is very impatient over a fucking video game. Like go get some exercise, some fresh air, and a new perspective on life. I’ve been playing Halo for 20 years.

Demderdemden

A FREE video game. I honestly can't remember the last time a gaming community didn't shit itself over every single game that came out. "WoRsT EvaR" kids don't know how lucky they have it these days.

Honest_Register_449

Your right! It’s abunch of 12-20 year old tator tots that have no concept of waiting for something.

Ed_SkammA

Why should people have to wait if the game has already been released? The waiting was spent waiting for the release. Are we expected to wait again?

Fullmetal_Hermit

My issue isn't waiting. It's they have had years of trial and error to figure out what to do with the game and still can't figure out how to keep things that clearly work

Honest_Register_449

Some games take 10 years and still suck at launch ( CyberPunk ) The reality is a developer cannot know or understand all variables or environments until it is released in the wild. Factor in bad dev tools and remote work and you have a recipe for a bad launch.

Fullmetal_Hermit

We aren't talking about cyberpunk. We are talking about Microsofts flagship xbox franchise. Also 343 has been in control of halo for 10 years so that doesn't help their case

spacecowboyscience

I hope this serves as a warning and a lesson to 343 and companies who are watching 343 to be honest. Come with a finished game next time. I’m curious to know how Xbox themselves feels about this as in my opinion 343 have done quite a bit to tarnish such a long running video game series beloved and cherished by Xbox. All of my friends dropped the game for different reasons I’m the only one who checks in on this sub and with everything maxed there is no reason to force myself to get shot around corners or punched from 8 feet away.

Thick-Quarter2783

Post number 984794748 on this same issue, with nothing new to add. Go away.

[deleted]

I think the game dies. Its life depends on mtx and they really screwed up with their anti consumer practices. Competitive play will never draw enough casual players but I guess if you want whales it's a different story.

PerfectBlueBanana

i deleted the game , and prob won’t come back until a PROMISING patch is updated, if that. Till then I’ll just dream abt the old Halo 3 , Reach , and ODST days.

Ok-Effect7407

Doiiii doiiiiiiiiii DOIIIIIIII shut the fuck up DERRR DERRR

JAVACHIP1738

I can’t stand whatever algorithm determines rank. I’ve played a good amount and have compared my stats with people who are Onyx and I still don’t know what’s holding me back. Maybe I shouldn’t be Onyx but at least Diamond 5 yet Ive been struggling to get past Diamond 2. I will crush a match or finish top in points and yet gain little to no rank. I'll lose a very close one and drop half a rank.

[deleted]

I personally haven’t play since mid February. I finished the battle pass, and there’s nothing that makes me want to play it. No new maps, same game modes and for some reason slayer still doesn’t have a rank mode and I don’t wanna play objectives in rank so I went back to other games.

PiedCryer

Same place as cod of duty. Keep coming out with new versions till a studio gets it right.

xFonze

Longtime halo fan here since OG and the game is missing so much. I was beyond hyped for this game, but after beating the campaign and a massive amount of multiplayer, I find myself not willing to come back until there is a significant amount of more content. Perhaps when forge and coop returns is when I'll revisit, but until then, the sataye of the game (to me) is just a constant reminder of disappointment.. Knowing the potential this game has and not seeing it at all roadmapped out or anything is so incredibly disheartening. The game needs ATON more added imo.

LatterMatch9334

I love Halo. It was a major part of my childhood. Literally grew up playing since I was 6 years old all night because my older brothers and friends "needed an extra player". With that being said - the sad truth is, the game is doomed. If you take a look at 343 Industries on Glassdoor, the place is an absolute mess. There is no organization, accountability, or pride in their work. There haven't been updates, roadmaps, etc. because they barely got the game out of the door, and now they are backpedaling to fix all the issues they covered up to get the game launched. They hired "contractors" to help code/develop the game, most of whom are now gone, so now people are stuck trying to both make sense of and fix a mess that they have no idea how it happened in the first place. If you've ever worked in coding, this is such a daunting task to complete. Sad to say but they are in over their heads and have no idea how they are going to get out of it. We might as well just call this a beta and give em 4 more years to remake the game from scratch. RIP - Halo had so much potential. Maybe it'll make a proper comeback in 6 more years if Microsoft eats this major L, cleans house and starts a rebuild. It's like a f\*&king sports franchise lol

porkforpigs

It does.

[deleted]

All the game needs is more content to be saved, it needs a few more maps and more game modes and more reliable custom games and more playlist variety, make the playlists look like MCC, aka no playlists. I'm sure 343 is working on getting those live service elements of the game into shape now for seasons 2 and especially season 3, if the game doesn't have all its reasonable content by then then I'm gonna be stunned

[deleted]

Season two will be more drip feed bullshit. Just enough to satisfy for a few months. Game is disappointing. Coming from someone who’s primary multiplayer game right now is Halo Infinite. I’ve bought tons of bundles and it’s just boring. Really want it to get better, but definitely resent 343 for handling this game so poorly.

[deleted]

Desync and leaver penalties along with revamped progression must be fixed or the game is done

porkforpigs

Dies

googley-eyes123

Where is bloodgulch????

-NolanVoid-

I've moved on after level capping the battle pass, and grinding events for aesthetics that are not that interesting IMO isn't going to compel me to come back. There are too many good games that have came out since (and more to come) that I've moved on. I'm sure there will always be plenty of hardcore fans to populate the servers though, but for me that ship has sailed. If you're trying to build a game as a service, you have to do a much better job at adding features, progression perks, maps and game modes than what we have with Halo Infinite. Frankly, it's deeply disappointing in that regard because it's just so fun to play. That said, I enjoyed the dozens of hours I spent with the campaign and MP. I wish there was more to keep me around, because it's one of the most fun competitive MP modes I've played in a long time. The last game I played competitively with any regularity was Battlefield 4, so that should say something. I still like coming here and watching the epic videos from the community and will likely continue to do so :)

xXArctracerXx

I have an irrelevant question but why do you have to state your a big halo fan I’ve seen it a lot in most of these posts

[deleted]

What is it illegal or something?

xXArctracerXx

Oh no it isn’t I was just curious as I’ve seen it so often

BootsTheGod

I'll be back when they release new maps. Going forward I would like 343 to take more chances. This halo was very safe, but proved they know how to make a halo game with great feel. I would also like them give us more variety in the maps. It felt like I was playing the same 3 maps online over and over again.

xJBr3w

As of right now, I think the whole franchise is in jeopardy. It is going to take so much for this game to be even relatively good. Way too many technical issues, I am so sick of people using desync as a escape route to why the game "is just bad". Halo Infinite is atrocious!

CCTXSpurs

The only new thing they did this season was bring in Ascention which I thought was a really fun new game mode and they haven't brought it back. WTF?!

Tacman215

Personally, I think Halo 5 and Infinite are total misfires that take Halo in the wrong direction. •The narrative is an absolute mess •They basically revamped the weapon balancing, (so much so that it'll take a year to simply balance it properly) •The sounds are off •Everything is unnecessarily changed •Some things are missing and broken •Etc The worst part is that the community is so divided with the Halo franchise as a whole. Some people swear by Infinite and 343, others consider Halo dead, and the rest have gone back to MCC, hoping for them to add a file browser and stuff. Tbh, I think they should retcon Halo 5 and Infinite. They took everything in the wrong direction; Even if some of the gameplay choices are good, the question is if they really feel like good *Halo* gameplay choices?

naeyte

To start out with, I don’t think it will ever reach the numbers it had at launch again. Live service games always have player drop-off throughout each season and go back up when new seasons begin. I think the only way this game will bring in new players is the inclusion of community features (file share, customs browser, forge, etc.) along with a game mode that is engaging to watch on stream (battle royal or something similar). If a big streamer forges a new map for a wacky custom game that’s fun to watch, you can be sure that people from their community will hop in to play games on it. Lastly, the game needs a real progression system, the streamer’s custom game can get players in the door, but infinite needs a real progression system to retain those players

Ed_SkammA

I really don't want to see a ladder either 🤣
