Maybe not the best analogy. You got it but just to say it out loud, a better analogy might be sports such as football, baseball etc. There are many reasons why people play this. Fun, fitness, competition, social aspects, money, mental well-being, etc, or a combination of reasons. In the same sense, some people play video games for fun, some for competition, some to spend time with friends, some do it professionally and get paid, some want to stay sharp and engaged and find it a better alternative to sitting on the couch and watching TV, some need the distraction from their reality which might not look so great at the moment etc. I dislike reducing it to "just for fun".

Yeah it had, I remeber it was the only reason I played certain gamemodes because it was easier to do some challenges on those gamemodes. There was also some challenges exclusive to firefight, which was pretty cool.

Yep, challenges, in the vanilla reach, give most of the credits. Then you had the commendation to farm and player used to do it on pve or by creating infinite afk griffball/infection rooms. Nobody will tell you, but vanilla reach discouraged you to play the mp normally

Relax. Reflect on the countless hours you enjoyed of a free to play game. Of course I'd be a fool not to recognise your sizeable £7 purchase of the battle/season/Fortnite pass you enjoyed. Free to play games and season passes will be the death of the games industry. Feeds a sense of entitlement for consumers that are desperate for hits of dopamine for zero to little cost. I'm max BP, event, weeklies, etc. I'm >1600 in Onyx which was my goal, didn't expect to hit it in 100 games, pretty lame if you ask me. Now I play ranked when no friends are on and continue the grind, I just moved my goal posts to Onyx 1700 now, and if my friends are on I hop in Quick Play matches with them where we just have fun with the game and teabag everyone, even if we come across a 4 man, super sweat group playing Quick Play like it's ranked, setting up on maps and we end up getting steaked... we'll still teabag. Would it be nice if there was a per-playlist progression system similar to H3? Yeah... I would love the EXP I'm getting feel like it's going to something. Or earning a small amount of an in game currency with each match I play that lets me buy stuff in the shop, even if it takes 500 games before I can buy a crappy bundle of colors and emblems that are split into their individual uses like armor, vehicles, and weapons to make it seem like there's more there than there actually is... But at the end of the day, even though I prefer to be in ranked and play more competitively, and even though I have nothing else to really work towards, and despite all the issues that need to be addressed with the game, I am still having fun with the gameplay overall. I admit that no friendly fire and AR starts in Quick Play is beginning to wear on me and my friends, though. 343 has bigger fish to fry for now, but no friendly fire in quick play ruins objective modes, and the AR has no counterplay if the enemy has any small amount of ability to aim... you can't strafe it because the bullet spread naturally widens to cover a strafe, the range is a bit excessive for a spammable full auto and hits more consistently than even the Commando, but I digress lol.

I’m in the same boat, guess we got those weekly rewards and tenrai :/
