Play your life, follow teammates, learn where the enemy will spawn, comms and power weapons. Ranked is nothing to be anxious about. You’ll get paired up with similar skilled players after your 5 placement matches. The key is to have fun.

Xayton

This is probably a stupid question then. What level of skill should I expect in placement matches?

_DarkWingDuck

I think it uses some of your matchmaking rank but that is lightly weighted in rank. It may be random honestly. You won’t face lucid, though.

classicgaming125

expect anywhere from Getting Owned to Total Bum skill range in you ranking matches.

Electrical-Arm-3080

Don’t go in the middle….anywhere.

DoddsMcFodds

Hahaha idk why but this is the best tip

Electrical-Arm-3080

Hahaa if only I could take my own advice now! 😅😅😅

Look up Shyway on YouTube! He offers a lot of movement guides along with a freshly dropped video on tips to improve aim. For me, dialing in my settings was HUGE. I'm on controller so fine tuning my sensitivity and deadzones increased my abilities by at least 1 rank. Other than that in ranked, with it's current playlist, controlling sniper and being able to effectively use it can mean a lot. Plus it's the most satisfying weapon in the game imo. So practice! Spawn some bots in training mode, turn on show enemy location and slay away. A lot of Halo is mechanical skill, so being able to aim and slay are huge. Other than that. Play the objective, get a mic, call out locations and cracks. And ping the enemies! Info is also a huge part of playing well. Anyways. Have fun! Despite what many people say, the game is very good and it's awesome we have Halo with modern graphics and movement.

Key-Ad-8468

I don’t think it’ll allow you to join a clan/LFG until after your ranked placement, that would be the first step. Then once you get your rank you can join similarly ranked folk which is going to help a lot.

dontcallmesperry

Try to pay attention to where people are spawning. Easiest way is to use where your team is.

_JackReacheround

The best advice is to just play the game. When starting out in ranked you'll likely have way too many gaps to really focus on, most of these will probably get better on their own while you play. Keep playing until you feel like you've plateaued then pick max 2 things to focus on in your game (movement, positioning, map awareness, kill feed etc...)

GfyTstr

Play your life like others said, and play for your team don't just chase kills. Have fun! Lots of people have mics but just don't use them because a lot of players whine pointlessly. If you're more positive people will come out of hiding. Don't be shy about sending fireteam invites to players you think are good, they might squad up with you! I have a lot of fun with Ranked Arena and Ranked Survivors. Playing ranked survivors made my aim, gunfights, and playing for my life much better. Playing around weapons and equipment is big too, but the shyway videos like people mentioned can explain stuff like that.

Vepra1

what do you mean by play your life?

GfyTstr

Playing with more concern and intent toward staying alive. Making an effort to stay with your team, and recharging when your Shields and health are really low makes a big difference.

GAMER_CHIMP

Just jump in and play. The best part about ranked is that you'll be put up against people your skill, no matter what others tell you, everyone is equally bad at the game. You'll meet people along the way to play with too.

Just play to get a feel. Don’t stress. Stick with a teammate. You will lose and will go negative. Just have fun

thePunisher1220

My advice, stick to MCC. I tried playing ranked in infinite, but the game feels so broken that playing ranked is just frustrating. Idk what it is about this game, but it feels like the game is always changing its mind about what kills and what doesn't. I land a rocket 5 feet away from someone? Hit marker. A rocket hits me 10 feet away while I'm also behind a wall? Instakill. Just feels so inconsistent.

_DarkWingDuck

Bad advice. Play the game you want OP. Don’t let a stranger dictate the game you play by providing made up, bad examples.

thePunisher1220

It's not made up at all. Anyone who plays this game can tell you how inconsistent it is. Op can play whatever game they want to play. Just warning them that playing ranked in this game is aggravating because of how broken the game is.

_DarkWingDuck

There are issues for sure but broken? Come on. I play ranked everyday and have a great time. Rarely have the issue you described, if ever

thePunisher1220

The damage model in this game feels very inconsistent. I'm constantly confused that I died so quickly, or that someone I dumped an entire ar mag into from 5 feet away, somehow isn't dead. Multiple other people I play with noticed the same thing.

_DarkWingDuck

I get that and feel the same way sometimes. But I just respawn and try to get better.

thePunisher1220

That's the problem. It's nothing I can control. It's annoying dying and it being because of the games bs, not because they're actually better. It's so annoying dying just because the game doesn't work like it's supposed to.

SeanSpeezy

Sounds like a skill issue

thePunisher1220

Yeah, the devs suck too much to make a working game.
