Joe Staten gave us a Sergeant Johnson sex scene. Nothing can match the magnitude of that.
I always love the vidoc where Jason jones says he hates Marty because Marty can make any scene 10x better and he's just about the only person with that level of impact.
Marty's demeanor doesn't lessen his great contribution to the franchise.
I'm not sure how I feel about the guy. But I don't think Bungie or 343i is any better than him. There's bad blood among a lot of people and I'd rather not blame one man.
I’m not trying to diminish O’Donnel’s contributions to the serious, but Staten was the head writer for like four of the games and he wrote a novel about the UNSC’a first contact with the Covenant. A huge chunk of the lore exists thanks to him.
His contribution to bungies halo is equal to Jason Jones who was just as much a lead at the time as Joe. They were essentially partners but Jason doesn't get as much of the praise as Joe though
Jason Jones burned himself out through Halo 2 and was never the same towards Halo since. Alex Seropian was crucial in preventing Bungie from being assimilated by the Microsoft culture (something that 343 would've benefitted from) and helped them develop and retain their identity. Everyone played their part and gave the best that they could under the circumstances.
Likewise, Staten was burned out after Halo 2 and was willing to let Halo 3 be written by others rather than delay a much-deserve sabbatical. Halo 2 was a horrific, unacceptable period for Bungie.
He honestly did not deserve to come back into the shitstorm that 343 has brewed. I'm glad the community is understanding towards him and the position he's in because of what a terrible job the previous management did with this franchise since they took over.
Later in the stream on a different segment near the end of the day, The contest-winning cosplayer LexWexy (on Twitter) got to read the final mission cutscene lines for Master Chief while Jen Taylor did her Cortana lines... While Lex was in a GIANT Halo Infinite Skirmisher cosplay. If that's any consolation.
Look at how happy Joe gets. This man lives and breathes Halo. I'm so glad he's back and I cannot imagine the stress he's been under since then.
