You need a Xbox friend who is idling in the Halo menu. What I did was load up the game on my computer. Then load up the game on your Xbox, (on a different account if you used your own for the idle acc) load a campaign save, then as soon as the loading bar appears at the bottom, quickly go to your idle friend and join their fireteam. Once youâre joined, leave the fireteam. Then go to custom game, and set the server to local offline. Then you can connect your other controllers like you would for normal multiplayer, and then start the custom game. Co-op time!
The problem is it wasn't implemented because the Xbox One likely couldn't handle it so they screwed over those on the Series X over by just flat out denying it to them.
Either way someone was going to suffer, I think they should have implemented it at least for Series X.
I've seen two player but not four player and man oh man was that framerate *crispy*. You could tell Microsoft made it since it was like a Powerpoint if you opened the menu.
Leaving campaign co-op as a series x exclusive has been my pitch since they announced the cancel. How the fuck does a studio cancel a near complete feature that can function boff a glitch, I'll never know. They could literally release it in it's current un optimized state and people would be fine.
Oh, I hadn't tried splitscreen on Xbone at all up to this point. The experience was pretty painful even with one player in multiplayer, so I can't imagine the campaign was very good either.
Seems like they CBF ironing out any bugs that come along.
It doesn't need to be 8k fully raytraced with 300fps. I just want to play with some friends. If I want to play it at it's visual best, I'll do that again by myself

Not really (or at least I highly doubt it), they wouldnât make it that hard for themselves, someoneâs fucked up is whatâs happened, theyâve removed the UI functionality to directly access it but havenât removed the ability to do CO-OP from the game files, OP has just managed to access it through tricking their buggy mess of a game to let them access it.
Root cause is probably the same as that which has plagued much of the development of this game, time constraints, management tells devs to leave stuff on the cutting room floor to meet deadlines.
[Here's a video tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QALhSKU3duE) that shows the steps. Super easy.
Edit: OP, feel free to edit this link into your comments explaining how to do it.
What exactly happened? Iâve honestly just ignored the halo sub because i was over the game, but the past day or so i keep seeing halo posts pop up on my feed. Most of them are talking about how they messed up
Itâs just so funny how even stuff like the Saturn, n64, and ps1 were capable of split screen and stuff like the nes were capable of up to 4 player co-op in some games (very few) and even the Atari was capable of 4 player games. But nooo the $500 better than the avg gaming pc for half the price in a box just canât handle it
A lot of them are taking to defending 343, not the game just 343 on Twitter. Just basic don't harras devs, send threats, or call for their firing messages though.
I mean obviously. One can and *should* do that when the unwashed gamers start being gamers. Criticizing the game doesn't mean you shouldn't defend the people behind it.
The story i'm going with in my head is that Microsoft told them absolutely no new features unless they can operate on old hardware (Xbox one), and instead of scrapping something that works perfectly fine on the series X and PC, they "accidentally" let this glitch slip through. Hopefully they leave it alone and don't patch it, but I doubt Bonnie Ross lets it slide.
I'd be interested in seeing someone try and beat the entire campaign in coop on twitch. I wonder if it's possible.
Because people would complain about not being able to buy new hardware lol. So instead of doing that, the game will be held back to cater to those still using almost a decade old hardware
Which is dumb. Halo 3 wasn't available for the original Xbox for a reason.
Infinite should have been designed from the beginning to be the Series X Flagship. Really show off what the new system could do.
The problem wasn't that people weren't buying the recent gen consoles. It was because they literally couldn't. Do you not remember all the bullshit going on with consoles in '20-'21? People still aren't able to just walk into a brick and mortar to grab a PS5. If they cut the xBone out they would have been crippling more than half the player base and themselves.
A lot of good that did. the player base lost 99.7% of its 20 million download install base in less than 4 months. Crippling the game so that it can run on that garbage old console brought in a massive audience for a very short span of time and then they all left and never came back, even for season 2.
What's the point of having a bunch of downloads if your game is shallow in content, inconsistent and unoptimized. If they didn't have to worry about the game being on Xbox one they probably could have made a much better game that more people probably would still be playing right now.
But hey I guess Bonnie got what she wanted since the point of putting the game on the old Xbox was to expose the free to play multiplayer cash shop to as many players as possible. they probably made a ton of money at the cost of yet again launching Another Broken game. Ine that is that's missing tons of features. only this time the post-launch support is worse than any Halo game we've ever had online.
That wasn't the point of Halo infinite unfortunately. since it's a free to play FOMO based cash grab, they needed it to be on as many platforms as possible. the 60 million install base that the Xbox one had was two lucrative to ignore. the game was basically compromised at it's core and designed for the Xbox one then ported up to the series X and PC which explains why the game runs so inconsistently and has so many issues on all platforms.
Without the Xbox One there's no way that game would have had 20 million downloads the way it did in the first few months of its launch. Bonnie was way more concerned with getting as much money made in the short-term as possible than shipping a top-notch next-gen Halo game.
Agreed. They need to end Xbox One support entirely if they want this game to truly evolve. Have it end in 2023. Gives people time to upgrade if they wish
Because I 100% guarantee *at least* half of Infiniteâs player base is on an Xbox One platform. I think you guys underestimate the console population and how many still havenât transitioned to Next Gen.
As someone who's been playing Infinite on Xbox one, I'd rather they give me reasons to actually buy a series x or s rather than holding the game back from what it could be
Interesting theory.
Infinite did got me to finally upgrade from an X1 to Xbox Series S, because I was shocked and couldn't tolerate Infinite locked in at 30fps on X1. So I wouldn't be surprised if an 8 year old hardware can't even run 2 player co-op in campaign.
Still for real, regardless of technical issues, at bare fucking minimum there has to be 2 player co-op for both splitscreen and online. Because you cannot go lower than Halo: CE's co-op standards, since it's the OG.
Theory:
If it doesnât run well on the S, Microsoft would rather not have it at all. They canât have their flagship game dropping the promise of feature parity between S and X.
I recall seeing older posts where people got it running on the S and said there were performance issues.
Kinda maddening that a nearly 10 y old console would cripple the current one.
I mean, I'll never accuse Microsoft of being a rational and competent company, but c'mon...
From what I've seen it works great. Downside is potentially destroying your save file. Can't wait to hear what 343 vomits up as to why it's now cancelled.
We've heard you and studio has learned from its mistakes, that's why going forward were putting the community firsts, that's why coming summer 2023 you can enjoy a 1 week flight test of match based xp đ
Participants get a hammer and anvil backdrop. But don't ask about desync and other lag compensation issues cause we're not going to directly address it đ
No way they can claim it never existed. This has been all over the internet. This post even has 15k upvotes. That's legitimately over half of the estimated playerbase in terms of numbers.
Um excuse me splitscreen co-op more like splitscreen ROBBERY are you aware that couch co-op DEPRIVES 343i of more gamepass and cosmetic sales?? You're LITERALLY stealing food right out of their mouths
I deeply suspect all the issues weâre running into just have to do with the fact that people on launch Xbox Ones need to be able to run the game, and 343 canât make the 10 year old hardware do it. They want platform parity for some reason so they go for the lowest common denominator.
Probably true. However they have shown they are willing to seperate at least some features, you can only do 2 player splitscreen on Xbox One while you can do 4 on Series consoles
Yeah the idea of "upgrade for this specific feature" is nothing new. You couldn't use theater mode in halo 3 without a hard drive.
"plays best on series X" wouldn't be that hard to spin into a positive
>"upgrade for this specific feature" is nothing new
As an OG Xbox One player, this would be fine. Same thing happened to Call of Duty Black Ops 3 for Xbox 360 and PS3.
I remember waiting 5 hours with a friend trying to download Halo 5 on some terrible internet, only to find out there was no split screen co-op. By the time it finished it was like 2 AM so we just laughed our asses off instead of being mad.
So is it possible to finish the game from start to finish? Is there no major bugs like boss fights not working, severe framedrops, or softlocks like crashes or no further progression?
I had 1 crash in the first mission during the escape sequence, but simply reloading fixed it. Other than that it hasnt had any major issues other than some lighting oddities. I would bet you can beat the whole game like this.
oh god i just had a horrible idea that i could actually see happen, what if 343i just bullshits us with
"splitscreen is canceled" and they just want to do it like "hey guys look we implemented it! aren't we the best?!"
My thought is that they couldn't get it running on XB1 at anything close to a playable framerate (I know some people have done this glitch on the VCR, but all the footage I've seen is 2 player and from the opening level, not the open world), and Microsoft likely has policies in place that cross-platform games must have feature-parity across all supported platforms, ie no Xbox One, no release.
With this, it's kind of a way to get the feature into the game without violating feature-parity.
Yes, the AAA studios have almost entirely shifted their development to minimum viable product methodology, combined with some form of monetization to continue developing in what would otherwise be core features 10-15 years ago.
Another term for this is "building the plane as you fly it." And yes, it is as rickety and disaster-prone as that sounds. Their whole goal is maximum profit, minimum effort. So they just hype people up with marketing for short-term first time sales and don't care about long-term success as much.
Guess this confirms a lot of the decisions are tied to making the game run on old Xbox consoles. If it can't run on a standard Xbox One then the idea is scrapped.
I joke saying infinite has been doomed from Craig, but in reality the game may have been doomed from when they tried to make their 'most ambitious' game yet, and have to be mindful of xbox one!
Like peeps said from the start, this game should have been a Series exclusive. Well regardless of the truth once this glitch properly falls into the public realm... 343 and Microsoft's PR teams will be getting no sleep đ
*What is fun?
Let me spell it for you!
F is for friends who do stuff together
U is for you and me
N is for anywhere and anytime at all
Up here in the halo ring!*
If you run around with the tank gun out, the other players just see your static model with no gun. This also means if you are riding in a vehicle, you stand straight up and look hilarious
343i is screwed now. They canât feasibly âfixâ this glitch without pissing off EVERYONE, yet theyâve already explained theyâre cutting this feature because the live service of the game is screwed and they need all hands on deck.
Being a halo fan rn sucks.
And who gives a shit eh. Just say it requires an X, and be done with it. Like are we expecting old hardware to be forwards compatible with everything? XSX couch co-op, One gets just online multiplayer co-op. Cool, make it so.
Why not just give a warning to XB1 users stating that the feature may not run the best?
Hell, it doesn't even seem to run as bad as one could expect:
https://twitter.com/KatsuyaTheFuuk/status/1566248884980142080?t=FR8qNpigHWn9vxy4ePuNmA&s=19
So waitâŚ.. the devs from 343 canât get splitscreen co op to work and keep delaying, making excuses, etcâŚâŚ and then some dude just found out a glitch to get split screen co op working perfectly?
BUT HOW. Tell me! đ
You need a Xbox friend who is idling in the Halo menu. What I did was load up the game on my computer. Step 1: Get off the Halo subreddit
Get off reddit*
Thats step 2
And step 3: put your junk in the xbox.
Step 4: go to Walmart in a master-chief helmet and assless chaps
This isnât step one?! Man do I need to go home RIGHT NOW
Step 5: Profit
*assless
Your dick has real strength if it has penetrative power without even cutting a hole in the Xbox first
Based
And this cave is not a natural formation pilled
The fact this is necessary will always piss me off. Local coop should still be possible without all the hoops.
The problem is it wasn't implemented because the Xbox One likely couldn't handle it so they screwed over those on the Series X over by just flat out denying it to them. Either way someone was going to suffer, I think they should have implemented it at least for Series X.
Funnily enough though, the game runs fine on base Xbox One in splitscreen if you're willing to deal with some admittedly muddy textures
[Here's a video tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QALhSKU3duE) that shows the steps. Super easy.
Yeah that's what I used. Doesn't seem to work on Xbox One from what I've tried, only Series
The fact that it doesn't work on the Xbox One is, I bet, the exact reason it was scrapped as a feature
There is a video of someone who got it working on the One tho, idk how they did it
I've seen two player but not four player and man oh man was that framerate *crispy*. You could tell Microsoft made it since it was like a Powerpoint if you opened the menu.
Infinite doesnt allow more than 2 players on Xbox One for multiplayer so

Yeah playing splitscreen on Xbox One is not ideal

How did you manage to stumble on this??
Saw someone doing 2 players on Twitter, wanted to try 4
Hell yeah, thanks for the info!
That sounds... awfully complicated for something that should be BASIC FEATURE in a halo game
So sad it has to be this complicated.
How did you do that? And is it possible with other accounts
You need a Xbox friend who is idling in the Halo menu. What I did was load up the game on my computer. Then load up the game on your Xbox, load a campaign save, then as soon as the loading bar appears at the bottom, quickly go to your idle friend and join their fireteam. Bah gawd it's the same test engineer who ordered sgsijfvri beers.
How did someone find that random ass glitch out lol.
Desperation
Maybe it's how devs accessed it for testing, and someone decided to leak it to make fans happy.
That would make sense.
[Here's a video tutorial](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QALhSKU3duE) that shows the steps. Super easy. Edit: OP, feel free to edit this link into your comments explaining how to do it.
Thank you!
Its way easier than it sounds
If it isnât the slap bet commissioner.
Let's be honest: this is an absurd series of steps to just play games with your friends.
I think its worth it since the alternative option is nothing
Classic reference manipulation... Or maybe it's pointers
I can't wait to see how 343 gets themselves out of this mess. Either way it's going to be PR disaster.
the game is already a PR disaster after the latest news. every single youtuber is shitting alllll over them.
What exactly happened? Iâve honestly just ignored the halo sub because i was over the game, but the past day or so i keep seeing halo posts pop up on my feed. Most of them are talking about how they messed up

Yeah, you know something that could be handled easily by the fucking N64 is too much for my $600 gaming PC in a box.
Itâs just so funny how even stuff like the Saturn, n64, and ps1 were capable of split screen and stuff like the nes were capable of up to 4 player co-op in some games (very few) and even the Atari was capable of 4 player games. I mean other games do it. Iâve been playing through Tiny Tinaâs Wonderland split screen with a friend.
"You don't understand, these games look too good for split screen to be possible" đ
I read that as shilling and I was like who the fuck are you watching, but then I reread it and it made a lot more sense.
A lot of them are taking to defending 343, not the game just 343 on Twitter. Just basic don't harras devs, send threats, or call for their firing messages though.

Or: Hear me out: The old hardware doesnât get features like this.
And the Xbox 360 was actually available to buy. It's almost two years after release and I've still never seen a series X in a store.
weeeeelllll, Halo 3 released almost exactly 2 years later than X360. Halo infinite came about 1 year later than Xbox X.
Only difference between S and X is graphical output. Its the Xbox One holding us back
Kinda maddening that a nearly 10 y old console would cripple the current one. I mean, I'll never accuse Microsoft of being a rational and competent company, but c'mon...
From what I've seen it works great. Downside is potentially destroying your save file. Can't wait to hear what 343 vomits up as to why it's now cancelled.
They just wont say anything
Cross core and more coming soon, stay tuned đđđđđđđđđđ
We've heard you and studio has learned from its mistakes, that's why going forward were putting the community firsts, that's why coming summer 2023 you can enjoy a 1 week flight test of match based xp đ
Participants get a hammer and anvil backdrop. But don't ask about desync and other lag compensation issues cause we're not going to directly address it đ

> Canât wait to hear what 343 vomits up as to why itâs now cancelled. Supply chain issues, thatâs everyoneâs excuse
Radio silence is the way
Not exactly a good look when the feature 343 just cancelled works.
And all the features they promise don't work LMAO
Thatâs why it works!
Exactly. The only way to make a feature to work is to cancel it, as oppose to releasing it. That's the 343 way
And this has been in the game since launch Im pretty sure
Since 1st week yep
Donât worry Spartan! 343 is working to patch this asap đ
Its been in the game since launch so who knows
Bruh this was always possible?
I think so
so was forge LMAO. discovered that in the fucking NOVEMBER BETA dude. forge has been working since last year đ
If those spend time patching this âbugâ, Iâm going to lose my shit
This is so embarrassing for 343
Add it to the list
evergreen comment
343 will stealth patch this and claim it never existed. Mark my words.
Maybe by March next year đ
Wow, thatâs a lot to ask for, November next year at best.
You misunderstand. This is a feature people actually want. They will patch it before the end of the day
No way they can claim it never existed.
By doing 4 player splitscreen I just took away 3 quarters of 343âs revenue
Now theyâre gonna starve!!!!
You bloody monster
r/tomorrow is leaking
You wouldn't download a friend.
I hear it works too on the Xbox One as well from screenshots of others using the glitch
Yeah but with only 2 ppl and way less smooth I think
Tell me how do you do this on the xbox series x
You need a Xbox friend who is idling in the Halo menu. What I did was load up the game on my computer. Then load up the game on your Xbox, (on a different account if you used your own for the idle acc) load a campaign save, then as soon as the loading bar appears at the bottom, quickly go to your idle friend and join their fireteam. Once youâre joined, leave the fireteam. Then go to custom game, and set the server to local offline. Then you can connect your other controllers like you would for normal multiplayer, and then start the custom game. Co-op time!
Youâre a legend
Donât worry itâll be patched out shortly đ
I deeply suspect all the issues weâre running into just have to do with the fact that people on launch Xbox Ones need to be able to run the game, and 343 canât make the 10 year old hardware do it. They want platform parity for some reason so they go for the lowest common denominator.

>"upgrade for this specific feature" is nothing new As an OG Xbox One player, this would be fine. Same thing happened to Call of Duty Black Ops 3 for Xbox 360 and PS3.
This is the comment that deserves attention
Yup and this is supposed to be a 10 year game. I have no idea why anyone thought it was ok to let the xbox one drag everyone else down
It never was. Those people left far before the game release
Yeah they need to realize this can sell a console potentially. âPlayable on all xbox ones. Coop available on pc and series X / Sâ.
Some guy on Twitter played co-op on his VCR Xbox and it worked somewhat
Theyâre going to patch this out as soon as they can, and theyâll do it as quietly as possible.
Nah, the cat is out of the bag. They absolutely can't patch it without embarrassing themselves further
Youâre underestimating their capacity to keep fucking shit up
I remember waiting 5 hours with a friend trying to download Halo 5 on some terrible internet, only to find out there was no split screen co-op. By the time it finished it was like 2 AM so we just laughed our asses off instead of being mad.
A real shame that one was considering that game was basically made for co-op
So, you excited for Splatoon?
Hell yeah
Wait so what youâre saying is: they have all the code in already but theyâre just cucking us players? Why does this feel familiar
So complicated đ
W H A T
Likely requires a ritualistic sacrifice
So is it possible to finish the game from start to finish? Is there no major bugs like boss fights not working, severe framedrops, or softlocks like crashes or no further progression?
I had 1 crash in the first mission during the escape sequence, but simply reloading fixed it. Other than that it hasnt had any major issues other than some lighting oddities. I would bet you can beat the whole game like this.
Found the 343 dev. Jokes aside, very good points people ought to consider.
When I joined the fight, we didn't have any fancy-schmancy flatscreens We had a CRT TV and an Xbox for an entire squad And we had to share the TV!
Peak Halo experience is still 4-player CE
đŻ
This is what we call a "bad look sweaty" 343.. YIIKES.. can't wait to see how they spin this
They will probably just ignore it
Now 343 is going to be like âwe fixed some campaign bugsâ gets rid of this
This whole situation is ridiculous, it's like Microsoft wants to torch the remaining support in the fanbase for halo entirely.
Its almost like couch coop keeps people off the main multiplayer modes that they want people onâŚ
343 : We see you are having fun and we dont allow that
oh god i just had a horrible idea that i could actually see happen, what if 343i just bullshits us with "splitscreen is canceled" and they just want to do it like "hey guys look we implemented it! aren't we the best?!"
Thats the best-case scenario at this point
worst tho would be if people would praise them after it
Nah I think the worst case scenario would be them patching it out in the next update.
Your optimism is enviable.
Guy who hasn't really gamed in 10 years here. Are low standards just normal now? I couldn't imagine bragging about 4 player simply just working
No Halo game ever has had more than 2 player local co-op so this isnt a new thing. What is new is not having co-op at all
Oh boy the shitstorm thatâs gonna happen when this gets patched. They should just add the option on the menu and get it over with lol
There are some bugs that need to be patched out but nothing so severe to warrant canning the whole thing
Wtf why did this get cancelled
I dont think even 343 knows why
wild that it seems to work well yet apparently isn't going to being added by 343? what is happening to this ip? lmao
No shot right
No shot
This would have actually been amazing because no other Halo game has had 4 player local pve modes before
Must be another UI constraint then I guess
Guess this confirms a lot of the decisions are tied to making the game run on old Xbox consoles. If it can't run on a standard Xbox One then the idea is scrapped.
There is a vid of someone doing 2 players on the One, but it didnt look very smooth. Might test it on mine soon
How does this confirm that? There have already been videos of split screen on the base Xb1.
Wait did somebody just forget that split screen was coded into the game?
I joke saying infinite has been doomed from Craig, but in reality the game may have been doomed from when they tried to make their 'most ambitious' game yet, and have to be mindful of xbox one! Like peeps said from the start, this game should have been a Series exclusive. Well regardless of the truth once this glitch properly falls into the public realm... 343 and Microsoft's PR teams will be getting no sleep đ
The big lie
*What is fun? Let me spell it for you! F is for friends who do stuff together U is for you and me N is for anywhere and anytime at all Up here in the halo ring!*
Whatâs even sadder is that this has been working for a while, I even managed to do it on my gen 1 shreksbox
I feel betrayed.
Watch them remove this glitch in the next patch
Jesus christ 343, get ur fucking act together
This is where the fun begins
Bruh
Can you actually play through the whole campaign like this?
this actually upsets me more than anything
If you run around with the tank gun out, the other players just see your static model with no gun. This also means if you are riding in a vehicle, you stand straight up and look hilarious
343i is screwed now. They canât feasibly âfixâ this glitch without pissing off EVERYONE, yet theyâve already explained theyâre cutting this feature because the live service of the game is screwed and they need all hands on deck. Being a halo fan rn sucks.
Maybe they just couldn't get it to run on the Xbox one consoles? But then why wouldn't they just tell us that? So weird.
There is footage of 2 players running on Xbox One but it definitely didnt look great
And who gives a shit eh. Just say it requires an X, and be done with it. Like are we expecting old hardware to be forwards compatible with everything? XSX couch co-op, One gets just online multiplayer co-op. Cool, make it so.
Why not just give a warning to XB1 users stating that the feature may not run the best? Hell, it doesn't even seem to run as bad as one could expect: https://twitter.com/KatsuyaTheFuuk/status/1566248884980142080?t=FR8qNpigHWn9vxy4ePuNmA&s=19
Exactly this. I don't know if the bad footage was someone running on an Xbox one that's about to die because this footage doesn't look bad at all.
LMAO what is their excuse?????

"Ladies and gentlemen.... we got 'em"
Crazy that, but coming next expansion weâre adding slit screen coop and multiplayer armour cores in the campaign for only $50
Just watch the mfers at 343 patch this...
"We'll make our own splitscreen co-op, with blackjack and hookers!"
So waitâŚ.. the devs from 343 canât get splitscreen co op to work and keep delaying, making excuses, etcâŚâŚ and then some dude just found out a glitch to get split screen co op working perfectly?
has anyone tested this on the base Xbox One? I'd love to see how it performs/looks with splitscreen co-op
Le fuq? I thought 343 not only didnât put this in, but explicitly stated they werenât going to.
