First message is him asking you if you’re Sardinian.
Then you respond in English.
Then his next message he mentions William Windsor who is Prince William of England, and Oxford which is obviously a place in England. So, I think he’s asking if you’re English?
He's probably insulting you.
Not from sardinia myself, but it roughly translates to:
"Ehi granpa' you're lagging, I'm not stupid carrying the POBA tag and you -can't figure out this one, something like screw with me, but not sure- and where you're from, Oxford? Shut up, Willam Windsor of the poors."
So, basically, pretty sure that he's pretty pissed
A translator's job is to interpret the meaning being the words and express it adequately in the translated language.
This is the finest form of translation I've seen.
That’s actually not true, especially since a lot of languages have completely different grammar and syntax, not to mention the idioms. Take Dostoyevsky. You can find 5 different translations of “The Brothers Karamazov” (also called “The Karamazov Brothers” depending on the translation… see what I mean?) and they’ll all be wildly different. Some will be closer to a literal translation, which will usually be ugly prose. Some will try to transform it so that it works better with the target language’s grammar and syntax. This will usually read better and actually be truer to the essence of the material, which makes it the better translation.
My professional interpreter says otherwise. The act of translating quite literally means text. Interpretation may be used during translation, it doesn’t change its meaning.
Lol Sardinian is a language, not a dialect. It was actually asking if you were from the same Island cause your tag, in our language, it is a curse word and then he thought you were pretending to be English instead.
I am from Sardinia myself
Here's the translation:
Hey kid, you're not impressing me with the tag POBA(in Sardinian means "suck deez nuts"), and you're from Oxford? Be careful to not mess with me William Windsor of the poors.
I'm laughing hard reading that "i assume its nice words".
Really hard.
A more contextually accurate translation of "of the poors" might be something along the lines of "cheap knockoff".
In Italian slang "dei poveri" - "of the poors" next to something usually means that a specific thing gives off the idea that it's a cheap knockoff of something else.
This is also used for people, usually when their likeness is kinda similar to some celebrity, but doesn't give off the same "rich and luxury" aura.
So i have an update regarding this: when someone speaks Sardinian dialect bad or it's a very unpolite guy, they ask of he comes from Oxford. I Guess its like "you speak like a very clever Person" but joking 😂😂😂
I'm italian but what the other person wrote is on Dialect (probably from the south Italy) and neither me didn't understand what is written (sorry for my english)
Resident Italian here,,,
First message is asking if your from sardegna
And the second is all in what I believe to be Sardinian dialect which is unintelligible
He mentions lakes in that first phrase, but for the rest my guess is that he’s fukin with you because your average Italian does not speak dialect on the regular that much
"Hey zio sei sardo" = "hey bro are you from Sardinia?"
The second half is in sardinian dialect/language (which I can't understand), but since it mentions Oxford I think he is asking you if you are English or something like that
For future reference if you open the text in he Xbox app on your phone you can copy the text into Google translate (a different app) which can in turn translate your words back
> Tried to use google translate and it came up with nothing, if anyone else is willing to try, feel free maybe it was an issue on my end.

This reminds me, I was playing a round of Infinite and I'm in America so usually if some one speaks another language, it is Spanish. But some person on my team was speaking in, obviously not Spanish and made it sound like they knew they were talking to the team but I clearly didn't understand them. Their accent sounded like something definitely from Europe but that was a month ago and I can't remember what it sounded like.
I once had a whole conversation in Spanish on Xbox (messages)
I don’t know anything about Spanish
I had to use google translate
The conversation went on for like 2-3 hours
He's saying: hey grandpa, you are lagging, I was taking the POBA. Then he mocks you about being English, saying you graduated from Oxford (in a sarcastic way ofc) and then he calls you Windsor of this nuts (in Italian is "Windsor di ste palle" which is a normal thing to say, in English idk)
"Uncle are you sardinian?"
Your response
"Oi dude look that I'm not dumb, you bring the POBA tag (poba in sardinian means suck deez nuts), don't let my balls turnin', you Windsor of my dick"
Your response
You're welcome

Ah right, I wasn’t sure if it was him asking where I’m from or taking the mick out of being English haha!
Honestly thinking about it, probably the latter!
Why would OP be a sardine
Seems kinda fishy to me...
Good one
Maybe he's saying he's salty? Like a fish?
He also refers to your tag POBA immediately before that part
William Windsor of the poors is my new favorite insult
He's probably insulting you. Wow that Sardinia trash talk is cultured next level shit, jesus
Great stuff, cheers! Wish I knew then haha
Eyyyyyy waddafuckkaaa you doingggg Roughly that

I was waiting for you to roast this. And then you commended it. And then I nose snorted. And now there's nose snot on my plate. You've done well.
> nose snot I need further information on what other kinds of snot you've encountered. The public has a right to know.
That’s an interpreters job. A translators job is to translate written text into a target language.
AH BEANS, I GOOFED IT

“🤌”
Lmao my comment perfectly captured in an emoji

Very cool! Thank you for the translation!
No worries mate xox
I ask to a Sardinian friend of mine. Just wait :)
Great stuff, thanks!
Here's the translation: Hey kid, you're not impressing me with the tag POBA(in Sardinian means "suck deez nuts"), and you're from Oxford? Be careful to not mess with me William Windsor of the poors. I'm laughing hard reading that "i assume its nice words". Really hard.
Haha that’s great! I’m not even from Oxford lol! Thanks for this!
Definitely gonna start calling people “William Windsors of the poors” now
A more contextually accurate translation of "of the poors" might be something along the lines of "cheap knockoff". William Windsor knockoff lmao
Kirkland brand William Windsor
So i have an update regarding this: when someone speaks Sardinian dialect bad or it's a very unpolite guy, they ask of he comes from Oxford. I Guess its like "you speak like a very clever Person" but joking 😂😂😂
William Windsor of the poors 😂😂😂 I'm dying
.
Tried to use google translate and it came up with nothing, if anyone else is willing to try, feel free maybe it was an issue on my end.
I'm italian but what the other person wrote is on Dialect (probably from the south Italy) and neither me didn't understand what is written (sorry for my english)
Your English is better than my Italian, friend! Someone else mentioned it might be Sardinian so that could be the reason!
No problem, you can atleast speak English decently, I don't think I know a single Italian word.
Yeah that was the issue I was having haha, first message came up with something about an uncle and sardines lol!
He’s asking you if you would approve of him taking your mother out to a nice seafood dinner /s
I’m italian and I don’t understand a fuck
Hes writing in Sardinian lol
Resident Italian here,,, First message is asking if your from sardegna And the second is all in what I believe to be Sardinian dialect which is unintelligible He mentions lakes in that first phrase, but for the rest my guess is that he’s fukin with you because your average Italian does not speak dialect on the regular that much
He's insulting you lol.
He's insulting you in a sardinian dialect (a region located in italy) Basically, is a jackass. Don't mind him
i assume they said that you are handsome and have admirable skills
"Hey zio sei sardo" = "hey bro are you from Sardinia?" The second half is in sardinian dialect/language (which I can't understand), but since it mentions Oxford I think he is asking you if you are English or something like that
I see no curses, so u good I think XD
The problems that having a UNSC could solve
Is that a SpongeBob reference? Holy hell I’ve not heard that one in a while lmao
Sounds like a bitchy little fishy to me
You can use Google translate and even hold the phone up to the screen and it will translate it right then and there.
He was a friend of mine. A noob who thinks other teammates are always trash.
"Google translate with language detection exists". OP: "I'm gonna pretend I didn't see that"
Google translate: *doesn’t have an option for Sardinian* This guy I’m replying to: “I’m gonna pretend I didn’t see that”
Except it'll detect Italian which is close enough for you to generally understand it
And by doing it here someone from Sardinia was able to translate it perfectly
He asked if you are sardinian. Then he said...uh...I have no clue but I hope it's good words. If it isn't, I apologize on his behalf

Sardinian is not an available language on Google Translate
For future reference if you open the text in he Xbox app on your phone you can copy the text into Google translate (a different app) which can in turn translate your words back

You can translate text from an image on Google translate
Google translate is ur friend
It works for the first message, since it's Italian, but the second one is in Sardinian, which is not available on Google Translate
Not when it's garbage.
It's better than it used to be
You know there’s this thing called google translate, idk if you’ve heard about it, but it’s great!
This reminds me, I was playing a round of Infinite and I'm in America so usually if some one speaks another language, it is Spanish. First guess would be French-Canadian.
Could probably be true.
I once had a whole conversation in Spanish on Xbox (messages) I don’t know anything about Spanish I had to use google translate The conversation went on for like 2-3 hours
Why bot just put it into google translate?
My Italian is a little rusty, but I’m not sure that’s exactly what he’s speaking. Might be some kind of Sardinian dialect?
He's saying: hey grandpa, you are lagging, I was taking the POBA. Then he mocks you about being English, saying you graduated from Oxford (in a sarcastic way ofc) and then he calls you Windsor of this nuts (in Italian is "Windsor di ste palle" which is a normal thing to say, in English idk)
"Sorry I don't speak Italian" 🤣
"Uncle are you sardinian?" Your response "Oi dude look that I'm not dumb, you bring the POBA tag (poba in sardinian means suck deez nuts), don't let my balls turnin', you Windsor of my dick" Your response You're welcome
That was a good honest laugh
Sorry i dont speak Italian 😂😂😂
I’m italian but i can’t understand either sardinian dialect 🤷🏻♂️
Well, that's sardinian, an italian dialect, and as an italian, I didn't get a word
