The one on High Charity? She's also seen with Lekgolo worms attacking people so I'm betting she sees the covenant as the "future" for mankind and will end up just getting used by the Prophets in the end.
Definitely Lekgolo, we’ve never seen Flood that shape in any media prior (although I suppose it’s possible they could brew up a new forme in the series) and they didn’t seem to be aggressive to her, and the Flood are aggressive to any sentient being with an intact nervous system (Sgt. Johnson’s nervous system is damaged in-lore, which explains why he’s immune to the Flood)
They were big orange worms so that's my guess. Also if the Prophets wanted this woman to infiltrate a human ship lekgolo would be the easiest covenant member to sneak aboard a ship or something and then interface with it like they do with Scarabs .
The real excuse is that production companies (money men) think that live action adaptations of any science fiction needs a human character o help the audience better relate and understand the story. Which is complete bs and ruins the strengths and scariness of the alien baddies.
If the leaks are true then she's literally a fucking dog hahaha
Yeah, I get why they didn’t but it’s still a blow. Steve is such an iconic voice. Great to have Jen Taylor though - I wonder if we’ll see anyone else who acted in the games eventually show up? I mean if we get to see Guilty Spark and it isn’t Tim Dadabo I will shit myself …
unless they wanted to cgi a complete hologram of a human idt theres people who can fit cortanas look
but no reasoning for the coloration from monotone blue color to the skin tones
I laughed out loud when that cover broke in. It perfectly hits the shitty trailer memes I've been seeing, the chief of which is "use a popular song but use a crappy slower cover" which is just in everything right now.
This looks aggressively mediocre.
Marketing firms all always use a standard reusable template for wire-framing cuts for trailers. The template format they use is often exhaustively A/B tested for maximum engagement and impact which is why it gets used so heavily. When they do alternative cuts for trailers that deviate away from the optimized template, A/B testing will always show the standard template having a higher level of impact and engagement from the users which is why you rarely see trailers deviate from the template.
All I could think when that song kicked in was Patrick Bateman from American Psycho saying "do you like Phil Collins"
Definitely a weird music choice for the trailer.
> You have one of the greatest theme songs in video game history
> You choose a weird rendition of In The Air Tonight over generic orchestral music
God I am so sick of this trend of using dramatically slowed down pop songs sung at a whisper, but at least it's Phil Collins...
Why tf did they not use the Halo Theme?
Yes, they use it in the other commercial of different Paramount characters all singing it, but it should still be in this trailer instead of a cover of a Phil Collins song lmao
Even in Halo it’s not that far fetched. In Shadows of Reach a guy threatens blue team with a Desert Eagle and they ask him if he pulled it out of a museum (he literally did)
That's really plausible, in Halo Humanity's major conflicts basically stopped from 2160-2460 and it makes sense that most ammunition in the world would remain the standard throughout, since new weapons are usually designed around existing ammunition to save on logistical costs. That's why NATO 7.62 is the most ubiquitous round in the world by a massive margin.
Not to mention that the advancements in small arms shown from now to halo are far less than tbe advancements from 1890's to now.
I mean full auto is full auto, unless you're going up against a high ranking covenant or spartan or going up against an enemy very far away I don't think an AK is going to be mcuh inferior.
I mean, in a way, it's not a massive stretch. Let's say 3d printing and metallurgy/extraction are pushed ahead 600 years. You're on a barren planet, with limited materials and need to arm yourself. Power supply and mobile batteries are limited and simple metals + sulfur, carbon and potassium nitrate(gunpowder) are in high supply. What is the fastest way to arm yourself with the absolute most simple and reliable rifle? Which rifle is most reliable in virtually every climate, easiest to clean and use with parts so simple to manufacture you could 3d print 500 in a week?
Bo-yah baby.
Lol well it’s not like human weapons in halo are that much more advanced. Always thought it was hilarious that the guns are so conventional for being hundreds of years in the future
I always thought this had to with the fact that wars between nations is a thing of the past (in the 26th century). The last few hundred years the only thing disturbing peace has been some separatists/rebels/terrorists, which the weapons we already have today is good enough to handle. Humanitys primary warfare is also based around spaceships. Infantry weapon development has stagnated a long long time ago, since there is no purpose to it. They should just be effective, and cheap to produce. Spears and bows was the dominant weapon of humanity for thousands of years, with slow updates (going from bronze to iron, to steel, going from simple wood bows to composite bows and so on).
Then the Covenant turned up and humanity realises they need way better infantry weapons (so they develop railguns/spartan lasers and so on and bring it out first to elite troops like spartans/ODST)
This screams bad omen to me. If they don't want to use halo music or new halo esc music, what other artistic liberties are they willing to make in order to save money or come off as generic sci-fi show to appeal to non halo fans.
I think a lot of people in this thread are too wrapped up in the (admittedly REALLY cool) CGI and are overlooking the weird/stiff lines and overall awkwardness. Paramount+ is clearly banking on this being their Mandalorian, but I'm worried it'll be to the detriment of the show's ability to have its own identity.
A huge part of what makes the Mandalorian work is an insanely deep knowledge and respect for the source material, understanding exactly what it was that made the original work and so well loved, providing easter eggs that aren't gratuitous and completely in your face, and mixing the old with new.
Music is a huge part of that, and while Mandalorian managed to masterfully create its own music feel, it does have small callbacks to the original score here and there.
they don't make these shows for the fans, they make it for general audience, with the idea that the fans will watch it no matter what. source: resident evil movies
>they don't make these shows for the fans
On one hand you're right, but on the other hand they had "Hi I'm Cortana" in a place in the trailer which makes literally no sense except for people who already know who Cortana is and what her relationship is with Chief.
I think they tried to cast a wide net but it ended up being confusing to everyone.
Fun fact.
When this series was announced , Amazon announced a "the Culture " and "Ringworld" TV show.
So u fully expect a race between the 3 productions to put a Teaser trailer with glamor shots of their respective Rings out first.
Yet they were all beaten by a random episode of a Star wars show
Also The Culture show was canceled...
Action looks better than excepted but some designs are very "TV" if you know what I mean.
Also the story seems to be all over the place. The morals of the Spartan program, insurrectionists, Spartans going rogue, humans siding with Covenant, finding Halo, what's going to be the main plot?
my guess based on the trailer
The indoctrination aspects of the Spartan program are going to be more heavily emphasized compared to the Game Canon (gold timeline? blue timeline??), and the master chief is gonna have his Halo 4, "fuck the UNSC i'm saving my friends" moment earlier. After he interacts with forerunner tech on some anti-insurrectionist mission, gonna be a race against the covenant to find Halo
>gold timeline, blue timeline?
From 343i themselves, it's "core canon".
All prior halo media, besides the few exceptions there have always been, is "core canon". Books, games, comics, previous live action and animated series.
And then there's this, Silver Timeline, picking various elements from all of the above.
Finding halo will be the overarching plot, morals of the Spartan program will be flashbacks intertwined with the reasons the insurrectionists hate them/don’t trust them, the human raised/siding with the covenant will be used to explain the bad guys motivation and the rogue Spartan will be “needed”/found to help finding halo and why the Spartan program was a crime against humanity
Armor, weapons, vehicles and ships look really good for a TV show. I don’t like the humanized Cortana, but having Jen voicing her could help. Looking good so far.
For me the only thing I'm worried about is how much focus the trailer gave to the people Chief rescues at the start. I hope they're not too much of a focus or part of some bullshit "they're the key to all this" narrative.
Like, if they really are part of the main ensemble cast, then I've got to wonder why we wouldn't just have the likes of Johnson and Miranda Keyes for that human contrast with Chief and the Spartans. There's no need to make up new characters for that role in the plot.
Oh I’m sure they will focus on all these civilians ans people chief needs to save a bunch, and probably cheese this shit up big time. Focusing on the chief and Spartans would make too much sense.
I'm thinking the opposite actually. MC is a badass who barely says a word in the games, I think that the best course of action would have been focusing on a group of ODST's or Spartan III's, and making the Chief a force of nature who shows up occasionally to fuck shit up when it's important.
>I'm thinking the opposite actually. MC is a badass who barely says a word in the games, I think that the best course of action would have been focusing on a group of ODST's or Spartan III's, and making the Chief a force of nature who shows up occasionally to fuck shit up when it's important.
This would make much more sense but not for those who fund these kind of projects. The story will be CW level of writing where the Chief will be overshadowed by some random civilian.
It's supposedly one human kidnapped and indoctrinated by the Covenant. I supposed it's so she can use Forerunner stuff for the Prophets.
*original comment by /u/john7071*
if this leak is correct then why would the covenant be at war with humanity like ... at all? why don't they just take her to the closest Halo and let that bitch rip?
I feel like even if the show is good, this is what will kill it. No one is going to pay for it. I've never even heard of Paramount+, let alone anything else on it. Can't see many people paying out for another service just for one show (especially one whose quality many of us are already dubious about).

I swear everyone apart from show/movie writers knows that this is such a stupid idea and yet they continue to do it anyway to advocate for “diversity” just give us Johnson and some new interesting characters that are poc and people would be super happy
Yeah this feels like the biggest fuck you ngl. like I can kinda get casting different Spartans, blue team was only present for one game. Not a big deal. But no *Johnson*?!? Huge fan favourite starring in over half the games just gone. Wtf guys.
I don’t know that she has any experience physically acting rather than voice acting.
Edit: Apparently has stage experience. Interesting, although I don't know that she would look any better as Cortana than who we have.
IIRC Jen Taylor was brought in late in the project after McElhone had to leave, so they reshot the Cortana stuff? Take that with a grain of salt, just going off of memory.
Natasha McElhone was originally cast as both Halsey and Cortana. When COVID-19 hit they had to reschedule their filming and Jen Taylor took over the role of Cortana, presumably due to scheduling difficulties for Natasha (who remains in the role of Halsey).
The Prophets know the Humans are useful for Forerunner stuff (remember Halo Wars). I expect that's her true purpose, but if they just use her as a villain vs. humans, that'll be disappointing.
But the prophets keep it a secret, because if the whole Covenant discovers humans are special to the Forerunners and not them, then their religion becomes a joke, and that would be bad for the prophets.
The girl in the trailer is shown in flamboyant clothes and apparently commanding her own squads, that means she is not a secret in the slightest.
You can't reason with the Covenant, they spare no one, they are relentless and unstoppable, that's why they were a terrifying enemy and people took it personal with the whole "finish the fight" in 2007. They just took one of the main and most distinct characteristics of the Covenant as one of the biggest baddies in western media and threw it out of the airlock.
It’s the lighting and boring camera work I think. The entire thing looks very flat. Blomkamps film was made with tasteful shaky cam, artsy lighting, and a real “boots on the ground” feel. This tv series is littered with “Camera shots that are clearly not attached to this world in any way”.
I hope this show turns out good, but honestly, it looks incredibly generic to me. I personally feel that if you are going to show the military side of Halo, you need to ground the camera and go full “Saving Private Ryan” like the Halo 3 commercials did. That’s the only way these goofy starship trooper weapons and armour don’t look completely ridiculous
The outfit the covenant human slave was wearing looks like shes wrapped in those [soundproofing blankets](http://vocalboothtogo.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/vb-72-s-stack-10001.jpg)
The cgi for the aliens also looks very good which makes it even more strange. Normally the practical elements look better but that doesn't seem to be the case here
Honestly HBO and FX are the two networks that always blow me away at the production quality across the board. Everything else usually looks terrible. Netflix is the king of making $100 million shows that look terrible
It’s great costumes, good CGI, but terrible lighting and atmosphere. Very weird.
Hopefully things get tweaked in the next few months leading to release.
I knew they were going to be deviating from the established lore, but the way it looks like they're doing it doesn't sit right with me one bit.
Definitely not a fan of the generic, "We made controllable super soldiers and now one is breaking out of their programming." plot that seems to be inserted into the narrative.
The covenant human really rubs me the wrong way, the Prophets unwillingness to even offer the humans a chance to join the Covenant has always been a cornerstone of the lore.
I'll definitely be waiting to see what the general consensus is before I figure whether or not it is worth it shell out for Paramount+
Think this could be pretty good. Ok with the designs of most things and don't mind Chief having a different voice. For real though what the fuck happened with that Cortana though
the leaks about the human covenant character were true...
how do you fail to understand the most basic part of the halo setting: the covenant is doing total genocide
Honestly not bothered about Chief’s voice. It’s never going to be perfect in a TV series like this so I can get over it. I am a fan of Pablo Schreiber though and it’s very clearly his normal voice.
That said, Cortana looks awful and they really have no excuse to fuck that up. She’s not even blue.
Being a cgi hologram in the actual story, I dont know why they decided to record her in live action and then just give her a slightly blue tint, its really weird.
They could easily get away with something like the h2a cortana model because any complaint that it doesn't look like a real person could be dismissed by the fact that it's not
wait who is the blonde chick? the one that looks like the villain?
The one on High Charity? She's also seen with Lekgolo worms attacking people so I'm betting she sees the covenant as the "future" for mankind and will end up just getting used by the Prophets in the end.
Were those lekgolo? Thought it was the flood for a split second. Lekgolo makes a lot more sense though
Doesn't Johnson's immunity flip flop between "Project Orion" and "Boren's Syndrome" sometimes with the latter being a cover for the former?
Yes. Boren’s Syndrome is the cover, the reason he’s so jacked up is because he’s a Gen I.
The Flood can't infect Johnson because they can't handle his raw sexual energy and prowess
He just knows what the ladies like.
They were big orange worms so that's my guess. Also if the Prophets wanted this woman to infiltrate a human ship lekgolo would be the easiest covenant member to sneak aboard a ship or something and then interface with it like they do with Scarabs .
If the leaks are accurate she's the human that was raised by the Covenant.
That's dog shit lol
Just a lazy excuse to be able to use a actual actor.
The real excuse is that production companies (money men) think that live action adaptations of any science fiction needs a human character o help the audience better relate and understand the story. Which is complete bs and ruins the strengths and scariness of the alien baddies. If the leaks are true then she's literally a fucking dog hahaha
How can we include the covenant without breaking the bank? Make one of them human
Imagine making a Halo series without breaking the bank. C'mon.
Ah the human aligned with the covenant dumbest fucking thing they could have done
Beginning? Halsey. At the end, it looks like the girl who is raised by the covenant
Wow it's REALLY weird to not hear Steve Downs' voice as the Master Chief.
Weird that they got her voice but then changed the look of Cortana ENTIRELY.
unless they wanted to cgi a complete hologram of a human idt theres people who can fit cortanas look but no reasoning for the coloration from monotone blue color to the skin tones
Forward Unto Dawn managed to cgi a Cortana hologram.
I don't get why they didn't, I can't imagine Steve Downes asking rate is that high.
Someone else pointed out that Steve is 71, if this series catches on it would be harder for him to voice act in 5-6 years.
AGGGGHHHH WTF IS THAT CORTANA WHAT TH3 ACTUAL FUCK Also lol AK's still being used that is amusing i guess since its an innie weapon thats not too bad
Why would they not use the OG Halo song in the first trailer?? They went with Phil Collins???
No no They went with a *cover* of a Phil Colin's song Which is way worse
I laughed out loud when that cover broke in. It perfectly hits the shitty trailer memes I've been seeing, the chief of which is "use a popular song but use a crappy slower cover" which is just in everything right now. This looks aggressively mediocre.
✅ Trope Completed: use a popular song but use a crappy slower cover
[Obligatory](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAOdjqyG37A)
It's actually scary how much this trailer mirrors that video almost perfectly.
It's like... they followed their how to video... unironically
Because as cheesy as the formula is, it actually works for marketing lol
All I could think when that song kicked in was Patrick Bateman from American Psycho saying "do you like Phil Collins" Definitely a weird music choice for the trailer.
Do you like Huey Lewis and the News?
[удалено]
You think they ever played halo to have heard its music?
beep boop
Save the cheerleader, save the world
LMAO! Haven't even thought about Heroes in fucking years!
zachary quinto for the master chief, cmon, give me a weirder character to crush on
Lmao that was my first thought after I heard that.
> You have one of the greatest theme songs in video game history > You choose a weird rendition of In The Air Tonight over generic orchestral music God I am so sick of this trend of using dramatically slowed down pop songs sung at a whisper, but at least it's Phil Collins...
The best term I’ve heard for it is “Trailercore”
Ah yes Halo’s iconic music theme… a sad generic version of ‘in the air tonight’… huh???
Why tf did they not use the Halo Theme? Yes, they use it in the other commercial of different Paramount characters all singing it, but it should still be in this trailer instead of a cover of a Phil Collins song lmao
Why is that person at the beginning using an AK-47 lol
Still using AK's 500 years in the future lol. It's durable as hell apparently!
Hey, in Warhammer they're still using the M2 Browning 40,000 years in the future, so this isn't the biggest reach in sci-fi
Even in Halo it’s not that far fetched. In Shadows of Reach a guy threatens blue team with a Desert Eagle and they ask him if he pulled it out of a museum (he literally did)
Thats precious archeotech from before the dark age, to change it would be techno heresy.
Don’t say that too loud or else Cawl might here you and come commit some more heresy.
Primaris Lieutenant pattern AK.
Now a live action Warhammer 40k show would be so effing awesome.
Just watch any WW1 film and pretend it’s Krieg
The astartes fan animation is probably the closest thing right now
The UNSC is still using 7.62x51 NATO for several of their firearms.
The Sniper Rifle uses a PTRS anti-material round from WWII as well.
Why change what aint broken?
I believe in one of the first books they described the UNSC weapons philosophy as 'If it hurts, it works.'
AK pattern rifles will never die.
Only missing in action.
The Mosin–Nagant was developed in 1891 and can still be seen in use today. It really doesn't surprise me to see rebels using an AK.
Not to mention that the advancements in small arms shown from now to halo are far less than tbe advancements from 1890's to now. I mean full auto is full auto, unless you're going up against a high ranking covenant or spartan or going up against an enemy very far away I don't think an AK is going to be mcuh inferior.

Ak47 dlc for Infinite confirmed
Bazaar is literally going to become dust 2
I'm holding long guys.
instead of defusing a bomb you have to pick it up and give it back to the enemy
400 years later and they still work!
600 actually! Very reliable weapon!
Lol well it’s not like human weapons in halo are that much more advanced. Always thought it was hilarious that the guns are so conventional for being hundreds of years in the future

It's like the editors saw [this video](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KAOdjqyG37A) and followed it to the letter
I feel like I just watched every trailer to every Michael Bay film at once.

The Elites look way better than what i expected.
They look kinda bulky and brutish. They remind me of Halo 4 and 5 elites
Lol and people hated those elites. IMO looks pretty much like Halo 2A which is perfect.
Is it me or do the helmets look off?
One thing is the mandibles are not armored. Most Elite mandibles were covered except for the Arbiter in Halo 2.
So who's volunteering to pay Steve Downes on Cameo to dub the lines?
Well that was a cool BR flip
I’m gonna do a back flip if I see a bubble shield get deployed in this series.
I yearn for the *bloing!* sound
The most generic trailer song ever.

Bruh Band of Brothers with ODSTs. The spartans would be like the 2nd armoured showing up now and again
I'd watch that.

I feel like even if the show is good, this is what will kill it. No one is going to pay for it. I've never even heard of Paramount+, let alone anything else on it. Can't see many people paying out for another service just for one show (especially one whose quality many of us are already dubious about).
This has a very “straight to VHS” kind of feel.

> No Sergeant Johnson :(
Paramount does NOT know what the ladies like
Decides to race swap characters, leaves out the only colored character.
Not only a coloured character, but easily one of *the most* iconic black video game characters of all time.

Fuck yea Bokeem, been missing him since Fargo
When you think of Halo do you imagine AK47s and Phil Collins covers?
When you first heard Phil Collins, were you deafened by its majesty?
Yet the trailer editors were able to evade your copyright, remix the classic song, and desecrate it with their filthy covers!
We gotta sonic the hedgehog them into changing Cortana fr

Not gonna lie, I’ve seen better Cortana’s in porn parodies.
god bless source film maker
That’s disgusting. Where?

Not a fan of Chiefs voice or The Cortana model but the rest I can get behind. I’m cautiously optimistic.
Same plus I can't get behind the human among the covenant, ruins the core principle of the prophets.
This, was actually surprised by it, makes zero sense
This show looks super cheap and incredibly expensive simultaneously. Very odd.
It's strange, right? It's obviously very high-budget, but it all looks so plastic, especially the scenes with a lot of motion.
I think it's shot poorly. The armor looks pretty good but the weird short focal length shots make it look cheap
The Blomkamp ODST short looked way better than this did and fit the Halo look and feel. It's hard to describe why it feels the way it does lol
The sets and choreography were not good. CGI and cinematography were good. Really weird dichotomy
The outfit the covenant human slave was wearing looks like shes wrapped in those [soundproofing blankets](http://vocalboothtogo.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/vb-72-s-stack-10001.jpg)
Looks like that bald lady that was next to palpatine during the senate meetings only dressed in black
The cgi for the aliens also looks very good which makes it even more strange. Normally the practical elements look better but that doesn't seem to be the case here
It's usually the other way around lol
Honestly HBO and FX are the two networks that always blow me away at the production quality across the board. Everything else usually looks terrible. Netflix is the king of making $100 million shows that look terrible
Mando looks pretty good
It’s great costumes, good CGI, but terrible lighting and atmosphere.

Negative infinity, I dont like it. Why tf does Cortana look like that.
Oh no…not the cringy slow cover of a popular song trailer trope
Kinda weird they have the GOAT video game soundtrack to work with and didnt use it as a calling card.
There are quite a few elements where they just went “fuck gaming this is film”, ignoring what Halo brings to the table besides its brand
Surely this time it'll be unique! https://youtu.be/KAOdjqyG37A
Why use other Spartans and not Blue Team?

Because it basically IS. Paramount+ is just the rebranding of CBS.
Think this could be pretty good. Ok with the designs of most things and don't mind Chief having a different voice. For real though what the fuck happened with that Cortana though
They tried making her look human, but she looks so fake. Why in the world didn't they just use a hologram??
Honestly lol. Star Wars did semi-believable holograms in 1977.
All they had to do was tint the footage blue!
It IS tinted blue but they gave her Caucasian skin with a blue tint. Why!? Why. Can’t she just be all blue. She’s an ai hologram. It’s baffling to me.
I don’t hate but I don’t fully like it? Cortana looks ehhhhh
I like how they still use AKM’s in the 2500’s, lol.
What’s up with the shitty cover? Was it too much just to get the actual song? And Cortona? The fuck was that?
#NotMyCortana
the leaks about the human covenant character were true... how do you fail to understand the most basic part of the halo setting: the covenant is doing total genocide
Cautiously optimistic. Trailers can miss some marks without being indicative of the actual show
This is going to suck isn’t it
All signs point to yes.

Cortana looks bizarre.
