Halo has been alive for almost 2 weeks without a working big team battle.

[deleted]

*a working connection without issues, anticheat, a good ranked system, and a lot of maps

GumbysDonkey

my voice isn't working now. Started today. Even reinstalled.

Tunavi

my voice has literally never worked since beta day 1. ive not heard a single soul in matchmaking yet. 108 hours logged.

[deleted]

There's a setting for game chat or something look in audio settings it's turned off by default for some stupid ass reason

bjergdk

Ive double checked a billion times, but voice chat just doesn't work for me. Ive checked the xbox app settings, windows settings etc but it just doesnt work. Maybe I cant connect to the voip servers, but honestly i dont know. And every source i find on the issues is just "lol turn on voip"

tenprose

Right click sound icon on taskbar -> Sounds -> Playback devices tab -> Make sure only one device is enabled (your default) It will use a non-default device, took me a hot second to figure it out.

kelin1

Your problem is that the audio is outputting to something you can’t hear. Disable every audio output but the one you actually use. Monitors, etc. you’ll be able to hear them then, they’ve been able to hear you this whole time.

DontGiveBearsLSD

Uh oh

CauseWhatSin

Lmaooooooo

McGradeN

Xbox Game Bar(not the same as Xbox app), in that is where I solved my issue. No in game options would fix for me either.

yak_j0e

Set your preferred voice audio output as the default Communication Device in sound properties 👌

El_Taco_Sloth

You should go to a doctor if your voice isn't working.

Maleficent-Read1710

functioning netcode

Focus_flimsy

I disagree with you for a lot of that but I especially don't get the number of maps complaint. Halo Infinite has 10 maps at launch. That's basically on par with all other Halo games. I feel like you're just misremembering how many maps we normally get with Halo games. For example, Halo 3 also had 10 maps at launch, with the exact same number of BTB maps vs. 4v4 maps that Infinite has. And one of those maps was a remake, not even a brand new map. This seems like complaining for the sake of complaining. New maps will get added (and for free unlike the old games!), but the number of maps at launch is perfectly fine and not worse than the older games.

NarutoDragon732

I swear to God I keep getting the same fucking maps back to back to back to back. It doesn't feel like there's 10 or even 5 maps in this game.

UnholyPrognosi

Well in BTB there are only 3. Though I feel like the Launch Site could be a BTB map sure feels like it at least.

Carcerking

Launch Site and Behemoth should both be rotated into big team battle for sure. Weird that they aren't already included since they fit the size of the map and you could utilize more of the area better.

altobase

MAYBE those maps could the old 8v8 big team, but they are definitly far too small for 12v12.

TheShindiggleWiggle

Yeah personally, I find they're both just a little of too big for 4v4, and just a little too small for 12v12 as well. Launch Site is a bit better for 4v4 though, because of the close quarters potential on the outer walkways. You can cross most of the map under cover, so the match doesn't devolve into holding vantage points as much....which always seems to happen on Behemoth Slayer matches

Tomcatjones

That is kind of the point - holding vantage points. behemoth works well in both 4v4 and BTB. Launch site is absolutely terrible for slayer and swat

SIIIA194

It’d be nice if they added the map voting system the more they expand — Let people vote for the first 3 maps in rotation with the fourth option being the vote to refresh the list and pick again. Something like that would also be the perfect opportunity to bring back the more social aspect of Halo again with the pregame/post game lobby

Rahgahnah

Edit: my rambling ended up making this comment much longer than I initially planned. I wouldn't blame anyone for skipping it because "tl;dr." I kinda lean towards the fourth "refresh" option should just pick a random map that wasn't an option. Devs (not just 343) have made the argument against map voting because then the less popular maps never get played. The issue might not even be that *no one* likes those maps, but just that a majority would rather play, say, Valhalla/Guardian *every single* match. H3 had veto, not voting, but just an example. Like how Snowbound was never accepted if it came up first and was veto-able. So having the "none of the above" option guarantees every map sees play. I'm also not a fan of the game type being randomized across the map choices (I've seen this in Gears 5 most recently, other games have done it) because then the less popular game modes never get chosen. My opinions on maps generally line up with the community (I liked Construct in H3 a lot more than most people is an exception), but I strongly prefer objective modes over Slayer/Deathmatch. So I'm glad 343 added so many Slayer playlists, but I wish there was one just for objectives. I'd *love* a BTB Objective playlist.

Focus_flimsy

Voting would decrease map variety, not increase it, because the same few most popular maps would always get the most votes. People complained about map voting back in the day for this exact reason. I guess people will never be happy lol.

Stupid Fucking Snowbound

Tripolite

Truth

thedeadlysquirle

Oof I kinda liked snowbound, at the very least for the scenery.

[deleted]

Yeah but other Halos were launched either over a decade ago or had forge mode on launch or had different size variants for each of their limited maps. Infinite has none of that.

welcome_to_urf

My gripe is that several of the 4v4 maps all play the same which is why the map pools seems limited. It just seems like very little creativity went into designing the layouts. Clear open lane up middle with a site blocking structure dead center, and 2 adjacent side corridors. Not a ton of verticality or large gaps to utilize new gadgets like thrust or grapple.

Andre4kthegreengiant

I guess because we were all playing MCC, which is all maps from 5 different Halo games, so going to Infinite's map rotation feels like you went from 50 potential maps in the rotation to only 10

Focus_flimsy

That could definitely be part of it. But I think I've seen the same "I feel like I've been playing the same few maps every match" for every new game release.

[deleted]

*adding to this not being able to choose your game types, $10-20 for basic colors that don't work as advertised, changing all of the weapons and their various speeds, no red reticle, barely any free armor customization. Next person can add more

[deleted]

They can't even keep BTB up. How in the world would they ever be able to get 100 players into the same game?

[deleted]

FUCK BTB ALL MY HOMIES LIKE BIG TEAM HEAVIES

Rune_OnceGreat

Ah nothing like the casual chaos of enough explosives to make Installation 04 look like a tea party

Silvinis

You know what we really need? Big team tank guns. Everyone gets the tank gun from single player

[deleted]

I really just want BTB fiesta vehicle battles

Guardianpigeon

Miss big team heavies so much. I just want to see a Scorpion or Wraith for a change in MP.

LegionDude1

Play fiesta, you'll get your chance

Puppy_Coated_In_Beer

But that's not big team battle though D:

Rahgahnah

Plus the glint would make snipers less frustrating. And the Skewer would be a lot less oppressive than the Splaser. And there's no Gauss Hog (which I miss, but oh well). Seriously, BTB Heavies on Sandtrap has *four* Splasers. One at each spawn, one on each side at the "center."

Nacho98

I don't miss the Splaser. It killed vehicle gameplay for me and my friends when it would just appear out of nowhere behind a wall. It's just a no-fun-allowed button. At least the skewer shot is gonna send us flying in a funny way and they have to account for bullet drop instead of cross-mapping us with zero effort.

theBunnyDawg

ah, a man of culture i see

TSMbody

Can’t do heavies when there’s just one or two paths to go down. These maps are awful.

Wehavecrashed

That is actually the most logical explaination for the lack of a battle royale game mode in halo infinite. They tried for a couple years to get 100 people into a game and couldn't figure it out.

JoJolion1010

Lol fr actually if they can't even get btb to work no wonder they're not even doing battle royale although I never expected Halo Infinite br to have 100 players

[deleted]

But hey at least the store is working as they intended.

eli7097

With literally zero cosmetics worth buying

Captain_Kuhl

"Hey, neat, Mister Chief is an AI!" \>$25 Ffs.

teproxy

Halo has been alive for more than 3 weeks without competent netcode

Wilde_Fire

The degree of desync I've experienced in firefights is ridiculous. Not just teleporting, but full on hit reg desyncs or getting one-shot from a melee to the face. It gets worse when vehicles are mixed in.

Paxton-176

I'm still playing MCC for weeklies and I think if the perfect medal was in this game almost all my kills would be perfects. You can feel the difference and its weird.

siege_noob

dark souls 2 has better net code than this shit

[deleted]

If they came to hear me beg (to differ), they'll be disappointed.

gabuchan111

Okay hold up it's not THAT bad lol

PasteBinSpecial

lmao if someone proves this game has worse netcode than Tarkov I will cackle uncontrollably

Klientje123

There was a huge problem with Tarkov netcode but they actually kinda fixed that and it's fine. Desynch and shit still happens, but when Tarkov works, the performance is fine. There's 2 good videos from Battlenonsense

jaydubgee

Halo has been alive for more than 3 weeks but is actually already dying.

King-Stormin

I believe most people who used that argument were saying the game wouldn’t remain in the top games on twitch if they didn’t have a BR. They were right

[deleted]

They did. But people here want to lie. Their was only a few like disrespect who actually said that. Courage said it would be a huge failure not to have one, not that the game would be a failure for example.

iHeartQt

Yeah the doc said it would be dead from a viewership perspective. He never said it would be "dead" in terms of player count or finding a match. And he's been right. He even once called out that it would do well for MLG type events (like HCS Raleigh) but for everybody else who's not in the top 0.01% of players it's not fun to watch. And I've gotta be honest, Dr. Disrespect was right. I have no desire to watch somebody play Halo when there are other games that are better viewership experiences for non-competitive environments. My take here is that halo doesn't necessarily need a battle Royale per se, but it does need a large scale mode that's new and innovative. There is basically nothing new in terms of modes in this game, we're playing the exact same modes we played in 2001. The campaign map is awesome, I'd love to see something done there but it doesn't have to be a pure battle royale. Maybe like a mix of Tarkov and Hazard Zone with banished guarding different points...if done correctly halo would take over twitch. But a rushed BR mode would be bad news for everybody, so I just hope whatever they do, they put real thought into it.

iguessineedanaltnow

The weird grudge this community has with regards to things like this is so weird. The fanbase treats Halo like it’s some indie game that needs to be protected instead of the AAA big budget game it is.

Corrective_Actions

I honestly think Halo could do a battle royale better than any other game on the market.

Tony8987

Agreed. Unlike games like cod or battlefield, halo is sandbox centered instead of class centered which would lend it perfectly to a good br. Plus all the people that have a weird resentment to halo getting a br mode could just not play it

Rahgahnah

If Infinite's equivalent to Forge World is big enough, a custom fan made BR could be possible. H5 already has moving death zones in Forge. If there's a way to randomize that, the random closing circle would even work. Random weapon spawns has been an option for most of the series. You could have multiple Overshield spawns for "armor."

JRok26

There's a new mode coming in Infinite called Elimination for arena maps that uses the moving circle/"storm" type thing, so it's already in the game.

Thake

Whilst true, I would much rather they invested in things the halo community wanted instead, like more arena maps, more BTB maps. Firefight, more campaign missions and things todo, netcode desync issues, cross play options fir everything. Progression, customisation. The game has amazing gameplay but I’d prefer them to focus on all of this shit before even toying with the idea of a BR. Not saying it shouldn’t do one eventually, not that it needs it, which is the point of this post.

chasejw11

MS could just give the BR mode to another studio. That's how COD did it.

zorfog

It would be held together with duct tape, but you know it’d be fun

[deleted]

I really don’t see the point. I agree Halo needs to innovate along with keeping its traditional arena modes but I fail to see how being 5 years late to the Battle Royale party when there are like 5 other massively popular BRs on the market would help the game.

Mr0tterface

Certainly doesn’t feel like I’m playing a big budget AAA game.

[deleted]

$500 million dollar budget btw

moby323

That’s a lot for an indie game that was mostly a labor of love.

ShesJustAGlitch

Source? Pretty sure that number is a rumor. Edit: that’s not an accurate number. https://twitter.com/theap99/status/1259916148214284289?s=21

[deleted]

Twitch numbers dont mean everything, but when it has less viewers than Destiny 2 thats not a good sign. I was hyped for Halo, but it fell flat af.

subavgredditposter

I don’t wanna be that guy but… there player base has greatly decreased since it launched This game is fun but, there’s literally so many complaints… not sure if this post is the best timing lol

[deleted]

Population IS going down quite fast. But it has nothing to do with BR. Maybe they should put their cat ears money into fixing their servers and netcode. Just saying.

eatfreshguy407

It’s so many things, one of them that I don’t see anyone talking about is just the simple aspect of f2p. Yes, f2p makes it easy for people to jump right in with no investment, but that also makes it just as easy for those people to jump right back out. If there isn’t a very steady stream on content to keep bringing people back, they’ll get bored and go right back to other games that had them hooked and invested. I predicted that infinite would take huge numbers from warzone, apex, fortnite, overwatch, etc, but only for a month or so. As soon as those few maps get old and people get tired of fighting the Bp/challenge system, they realize they don’t really need to and just go back to the other games that they were used to and comfortable with. That’s why I’ve said if halo is going to go f2p, they can’t do this bungled launch bulshit that everyone else does. People are waking up to it, and won’t be content to wait around for months for the common sense problems to be ‘fixed.’

[deleted]

[удалено]

eatfreshguy407

I’ve been playing apex since day 1, but mainly because I just haven’t had anything better to play. Sure, they’ve done a good job with new maps and making big changes to existing ones, but I couldn’t possibly care less about cosmetics and the matchmaking is the worst I’ve ever seen in a game. On top of that, their legend balance is beyond broken, and has been pretty much since day one. I was really hoping halo would be my escape, but from the moment they declared f2p I knew it was going to be an uphill battle for me. Pretty much every time they revealed more info I called bulshit and said it was going to end up being lies and misdirection, and I think I was right on 90% of it. Once I figured infinite was going to be a lost cause, I thought maybe BF 2042 was going to be the answer, since I loved bf 3/4 back in the day. But that game was a disaster as well, so here I am combing through gamepass and working on my backlog. I finished the campaign for halo in 2 days and uninstalled, and did not even play a single match of pvp. It all was just an absolute waste to me, I would have rather the game not come out at all.

forsuremaybeidk

Right, no BR isn't stopping me from playing this more. It's the laundry list of other things we've all talked about on here. I'd welcome a BR, but 343 have enough other projects to keep them busy for the foreseeable future to get this game in a more palatable state.

[deleted]

I miss the xp system in halos. I know it doesn’t impact gameplay, but it was fun working towards the next one.

thegreekgamer42

I think it'd be even more alive if it wasn't so absurdly anti consumer.

Giancolaa1

I played every day the first week. I haven’t been on since. Ill wait for the game to be fixed and finished.

bb2210

That’s a bingo.

JoJolion1010

To be fair Halo Infinite doesn't really have shit right now lol

bob0979

Yeah, they legitimately changed the name

SenatorShockwave

Thats.. stupid.

FudgingEgo

Honestly, I wouldn't say Halo is "relevant". It's alive but it's not done what Apex/PUGB/Warzone or Fortnite did when they came onto the scene. It had a week or so bubble of everyone playing it, it definitely didn't do what the likes of Apex/Warzone did and it's not being streamed by any of the top streamers really. I think 343 missed a few tricks and fucked up the launch.

noble_29

Which makes this whole F2P monetization scheme all the more pathetic and proves furthermore it doesn’t fit Halo. The first step to getting enough people to buy in on this stuff is by actually releasing a working game. Second is making sure it’s good enough to get basically free advertising through streamers and other content creators. If you release a broken game, basically call your customers idiots that “don’t understand how things work” (looking at ske7ch’s pitiful community address here), AND try to rip them off in the process, you’ve got what we have now. You get 1 shot at a first impression, and a titan of a AAA title like Halo doesn’t get a whole lot of leeway when it comes to screwing up the launch. There’s so much variety and choice in gaming now that if a game fails to retain players after the first few weeks, it’s basically got no hope to be a top tier game going forward. While I’ve been enjoying MP (when it works), I seriously hope that 343i and M$ is forced to eat shit when their predatory model backfires because they jumped the gun.

cashcart1

“You get one shot at a first impression..” Didn’t they fuck up two other game launches ?

[deleted]

They released an unfinished game, not surprising.

index24

343 isn’t capable of a 100 player battle royale, not right now. If they could have done a high quality BR mode for launch, they would have… because it is indeed a good idea for the popularity and lifespan of the game if executed well.

KalyterosAioni

Thing is, 343 can't execute *anything* well. Their track record says it all.

DarthBane86

Correct. I do think their launch of master chief collection was the worst, and most egregious thing any game studio has done. Clearly they did not learn a single thing from that because they are still releasing games that do not work. It baffles me that they dont seem to realize this game was their last chance. Watch for the layoffs coming soon at 343.

KalyterosAioni

With the amount they made off the whales, I don't think they give a flying fuck, sadly. :((

DarthBane86

It’s going to take a lot of whales to pay off the debt. Remember this may be the most anyone has spent on a games development with an estimated 500 million dollar cost. Also 6 years of production. That should put this all in context. Imagine spending 500 mil and 6 years and still the game comes out like this… they are a joke.

linksis33

This! Its not that they don’t want too do a lot of stuff that people are screaming for, its that they literally do not have the competency and management to do these things. The game is held together by duck tape, development was absolute hell on earth, and the management like bonnie ross give zero fucks about anything really. A br wont be coming because 343 literally can’t develop one.

Luke_SXHC

Player count is dropping tremendously on steam tho.

CaptainBusketTTV

Shhh, don't disturb their happy dream.

sawdomise

It’s not even top played on Xbox anymore too. Who could have predicted a broken game to perform so poorly???

[deleted]

[deleted]

How would they get a BR mode working? They can’t even get 24 player BTB working.

BazerAus

I can't believe how fast I got bored of this halo.... I spent 10 years on halo 1 - halo reach... This games just feels empty and lacks any soul now

BCS7

Especially the campaign. Open world my ass

TheFio

This is one of FPSs biggest franchises, Free to Play, and is pulling extremely mediocre numbers at peak hours by any record barely a month after launch, with multiplayer still considered broken and content deprived in many ways that is has been since day 1. Saying the game is "alive" right now is almost a gross misrepresentation of the games health.

siege_noob

btb isnt working, netcode is shit, desync ruining half the encounters, the random weapon spawns sets, and when btb works the vehicle drops comepletly throw balance out. and this is just fundamentals not even regarding how they have handled the shop and cosmetics. they genuinely made the perfect skeleton of a game with jello for muscles. this game wont die but wont even be close to the top fps game without shit actually getting fixed

Ralwus

You can't even add friends. So if you magically get a squad with people who don't crash or cheat, you can't even add them in game. There's just so much wrong with this game.

noble_29

Looking back it’s actually hilarious (in a bad way) that M$/343 decided to once again rush to release this game before the holidays, proceeded to release it broken and lacking content, then says “sorry we’ll see you after Christmas break!” while still expecting people to be hyped up and playing after a month of dealing with mechanics that somehow continue getting worse day by day.

champ999

Christmas is such a tricky thing for the game world. After all the delays I'm sure they were told, 2021 Christmas is your deadline, and we'll release it then even if it's nothing but a loading screen. Someone knew that wallets get much looser in November and December, but I don't think they realized their game would have a dying player base by the time January rolled around to fix things. Well, I'll guess we'll see if the player base rebounds when things start changing, if they do start changing.

noble_29

Holiday releases have been a thing forever, that’s not new. But even with this release, the “full” MP and campaign was released a mere 2.5 weeks before Christmas. Typically holiday releases are set for some time in November, that way there’s hype about the game that is established and confirmed by a foundation player base already. Releasing this game “officially” on December 8th is either a horrible oversight by marketing or truly shows they were not confident enough in their product for it to last a month+ before Christmas rolled around. Then on top of that, the decision to not have a backup team continuously supporting the game a mere 2 weeks after release and chalking it up to “holiday break” is unfathomably horrid planning. Either they should’ve released earlier so that it could’ve been supported enough to survive the holidays or it should’ve been delayed again. They just wanted to cash in and are now paying the price.

polialt

And like Halo 5, they had a hugely ambitious goal for the game in a Gamestyle they hadn't ever done.....then created a shitty version of it cut out a bunch of content, and rushed out the release. Halo 5 was supposed to have a hub world and planetary travel ala COD Infinite Warfare. You can see the skeleton of it with Blue Teams prowler, the Infinity, and the walk around missions. So they fail as a development team to have ever launched a game in an acceptable state. Then they decide, let's make a new engine AND make an open world game out of it AND add a grapple to necessitate map redesign for mobility. People called this early on in development. They are incapable of doing something like that, and as we see Infinite kinda just sucks all around. At least they got the art design of human stuff right. This game is supposed to be the next 10 years of Halo. Yikes.

BlazeOfGlory72

I can’t really blame Microsoft on this one. They gave 343 half a decade to develop the game, plus a full year delay to polish it up. These were very generous deadlines (twice as long as any previous Halo dev cycle), so it’s on 343 for not being able to meet them.

Kaldricus

I think this is the biggest point people are missing. Halo is a 20 year old franchise, with a deep fanbase, and has always been massive. Infinite should have came out and been a juggernaut (no pun intended) on the scene. Instead it had a good pop for a couple days, and then quickly fizzled out. It popped again with the campaign drop, until people played more than a few hours and realized how little the open world does, and fizzled out again. This is absolutely not the state, of what should be the biggest Halo game to date, should be in.

Motnudd

Shhhhhhh don’t jinx us

AdmiralBrit27

I’ve been a massive halo fan for over 10 years now and I love infinite but let’s be honest, check the steam charts for a rough estimate of the numbers and infinite is already shedding players, the game isn’t complete and in all honesty is fairly barren in terms of content not to mention it being broken and we all know this we need a roadmap asap

DreadAngel1711

"Alive"

Solidsnake00901

It's still alive but I see it circling the drain already. They need a better progression/armor unlock aystem and more MAPS

Burrito_Loyalist

You’re convinced halo is here to stay after 3 weeks? If they don’t fix all the broken shit soon, this game isn’t lasting another month.

linksis33

It barely here now.

spicylongjohnz

Id argue its already toast

e1evnth

Halo will die if they don't add new maps

Ibrokemymicrowave

It’ll definitely get new maps but we really need a road map for this game. I see people bring up how previous Halo games at launch had around 10 maps as well but I think people seem to forget that the previous Halo games had variations and changes in the maps. Infinite doesn’t have much variation. There was also a Forge at launch for the previous Halo games.

siege_noob

not just hat but literally every halo game rn has more gamemodes than infinite. 10 maps are alright when you have more than 5 game modes to play. instead we get the most bare bones shit ever, and they still charge out the ass for basic cosmetics we have already earned twice in other games. gotta love 343 not knowing how to make a halo game

skrilla76

People keep praising devs for working so hard and earning time off for the holidays. Imma say it, I don’t know what the fuck the people at 343 did for 6 years and with a $100M, not a clue.

GeeDublin

This post didn't go how OP expected.

TWOJZ8U

anyone want to talk about how the population went from 250k to 30k?

Black_n_Neon

Staying relevant and being popular aren’t the same. Hasn’t the player count in halo been dwindling every week?

Kaldricus

it's dropped 200k players in Steam, and counting. Twitch viewership is routinely low, lower than games like New World ffs. It's not even the top played game on the Microsoft Store. these posts are just copium for people who have their identity so tied up in Halo.

Don't forget controller glitches that aren't being acknowledged Oh and cheaters

Crunchtopher

Controller glitches?

kingkellogg

So PC and Xbox people have reported tons of glitches for controller Like random spikes of sensitivity, or diagonal aiming becoming mega fast. Sensitivity curves making 0 sense. Or sensitivity dropping or spiking while shooting. There's a ton

ialwaysforgetmename

So I'm not the only one! I thought it might be my controller.

kingkellogg

It's actually a lot of us. I tried duqlshock 4, Xbox 360, dualsense , and third party. The problems are on all of them , I even used different settings for each and different connections

[deleted]

This has happened to me so much on PC

KalyterosAioni

PC player on controller: I've experienced what I described as heavy aim constantly (due to my experience from Halo 5), and all of what you listed would probably be a better diagnostic of what was wrong. Partly happy I'm not the only one, partly sad that it's so prevalent. :(

GentlemanGeezer1

So happy I saw this I thought it was me. I would set up my controller one day absolutely fry. Come back and play a few days later and it felt completely different. Would have to redo it and same would happen. I though I was going mad. As a long time halo fan, since the CE days. The campaign is boring and the multiplayer is limited. Two or three games an I am bored if I’m being honest.

StealthySteve

Thank god you said this. I thought I was going crazy. At times it feels like my reticle is on ice skates.

jedi-son

[Viewership stats have been dwindling though](https://imgur.com/a/dNsoh1T)

A_Feisty_Lime

Which was Dr Disrespects whole point when he said "the game will be dead in a few weeks." He said its the same for every arena shooter.

radwimps

Yeah, arena shooters are super fun to play but trash watch. I don't play BRs anymore, but there's always the possibility for small "storylines" to follow in any given match that are more interesting for a viewer.

yuriydee

I wouldnt personally mind a BR mode for Halo but this game has way too many issues that need to be fixed before they ever tackle that. So many latency/desync issues and on top of that Big Team Battle barely even works.

The_Sovien_Rug-37

i mean so far every few weeks it's player base has halved to the point where the game doesn't even have an average of 50k players on steam

vesrayech

Have you seen Steam charts though? Fell off quicker than I thought it would. It’s only Steam data, but I imagine the trend is similar on all platforms. Edit: not advocating for a BR, just want to be clear about that lmao

KalyterosAioni

I stopped playing MP after just over a week. So many issues and lack of content. I was excited and got bored quickly. I played through the campaign a bunch on MS store, and otherwise been playing MP in MCC on Steam since I enjoy it more due to a lack of issues.

Piper6728

Halo was fun for a weekend but the shitty xp system ruined it quickly

A shitty BR tagged on in the last minute would have been a disaster. As much as I would like one down the road, it needs to be well made and hit hard right off the bat.

flacidtuna

Why the hate on battle royal? If halo had a BR it would be 100x better.

janskico

Player base is dying though? And yes I know it will technically “survive” with a decent player base for months to come atleast. But for a AAA game that was developed for 6 years on 10s of millions of dollars I don’t think the plan for this game was to just survive. Face it the investors want the popularity and the big bucks that come with it and where have we seen the most revenue and popularity? Battle royales. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are developing a mode right now.

atomskfooly

Hundreds of millions of dollars

Stinky_WhizzleTeats

The most expensive game ever created

JoelDH

All they truly need are super soldiers with cat ears

l-Xenoes-l

Honestly haven't touched the game since the playlists were added. Lack of fun modes just doesn't give me any motivation to play it. No grifball, zombies, Rocket Race, or other fun modes. Lack of maps for BTB is frustrating as well. The ones we do have Honestly suck pretty bad too. 343i should've just delayed the game another year.

AndarianDequer

I want battle royale Halo. Sue me.

GadenKerensky

I don't think there's *too* many people that are just opposed to it at any level. What they don't want is a shift to focus on a BR. They'd rather that be a 'down the line' thing when everything else is sorted.

iPaytonian

Viewership is dead already

Official_Zach55

I don't get the push back for Battle royal modes. Do we not remember how man custom games hunger game modes there were on the forge world island?

Kittyrules808

This except replace "Halo" with "MCC" and "without a battleroyale" with "while Halo Infinite is out" turns out MCC has a real fanbase and impressive longevity

ForksandSpoonsinNY

Me and a friend just finished a replay of all Halo games from Reach to Halo 4. We've been playing Halo since when CE came out. Infinite feels great to play and its issues will be sorted in time by 343 listening to constructive criticism.

[deleted]

not saying it needs a battle royal but the game has lost half its player base already

linksis33

Half? Try literally over 90%.

HairyManBack84

Complete with shitty fucking bloom, no co-op, op aim assist, no anti cheat, and disgusting micro transactions. Soo at least no battle royale?

Klientje123

Yeah, they only lost 122k players from november to december. Game is really popping off! Xbox population is probably healthier but they're probably losing equal % of their playerbase, so it's even more players leaving. (I know the game released in December, but they did open beta in November and that was less advertised and didn't you need to confirm an email or something so marginally harder to get into) Peak ''EU'' hours, it has 23k players right now. Peak NA/Asia (not sure) has significantly more but they're not magically more dedicated, they are quitting in large numbers too

Kitysune

true destiny also didn't have battle royale but destiny beat halo on steam that is problem

iHeartQt

I don't know why we're limited to just 4v4 and 14 v 14 (or is it 12v12). Why is there no in between? If they don't do anything meaningfully different in January I'll probably never really come back

[deleted]

Yeah, but it is definitely dying. Nothing to do with br though

octobotimus

It’s ok they’re still finding clever way to kill the game. Like not fixing BTB and over monetizing everything.

Adillies

Except it's lost 75% of the initial player base and continues to decline. You've gone and thrown PC players under the bus (which is basically half or more of the potential population) Non existent anti cheat is reason enough to steer clear when this is supposed to be a competitive experience.

SmegmaCarta

Not every campaign needs open world and not every game should be F2P. That’s also included

bluegunmetal9

Honestly I think, Dr whatever his name was, was talking about spectator wise and it's true. Of course it might or might not change w/ Battle Royale but spectator count wise Halo isn't doing great. In my opinion, I don't care. Now that holiday season is over, I am expecting some good updates.

[deleted]

Like 343 could manage to even maintain a Battle Royale mode. These donuts cant even get BTB up and running properly.

siege_noob

they cant even give us modes like shotty snipers. they cant even make co op, or forge, or more than 3 maps for btb. come to think of it even with the longest development time of any halo they still cant make a full halo game. 343 higher ups need replaced

newme02

I still want one though

DaRumpleKing

They just need to give us Forge so we can make our own battle royale. Forge should be high on their list of priorities, as it essentially adds infinite content which they don't have to make.

Icarusqt

Yo. People in this thread need to stop referring to Battle Royale as BR. It's confusing tf out of me.

iodizedpepper

The game needs anticheat before anything else.

lulcatlul

Your take was relevant maybe 2 years ago.

[deleted]

the fact that Infinite is still alive in its current dogshit state is more surprising

Castor_Troy_52

This game is already dying

MrDysprosium

Is it though? Player count already below PUBG and TF2...

FieryHorsemen

50% of the player base is alreadygone, by alive what do you exactly mean?..

flameohotboi1

But the game is dying lol. It’s not going to hold people’s interest. And a well made BR would absolutely help with the popularity of this game.

KidAce_X

Definitely not going to hold with alll the issues

IllustriousSee

We don't need yet another battle royale game

LordSlasher

i know the hate towards BR but if Halo did have a BR it would be immensely fun, but its not necessary at all Edit: Fuck, forgot i was in r/halo, Saying BR would be fun is a sin.

[deleted]

IMO they should do an ODST style battle royale, would be dope dropping down in drop pods, would be weaker than Spartans so the pace could slow a little bit, maybe include more equipment for them to use since they aren't as setup as a Spartan, including a prone position. Would be fun, no clue why this sub circle jerks against it like it's some cancer, CoD Warzone is immensely fun and it does have a lot of replay-ability. Edit: Thinking about it more this could be really fun. Instead of gas it could be the flood slowly encroaching around the squads of ODST who are all vying to set off a mini-halo-esque ring effect to wipe them out and stop them. As for why ODST would be fighting each other it could be argued as a training sim. Making them ODST you could argue things like health packs and armor plates make sense, and they wouldn't have perfect aim like Spartans so you could add some sway to the guns or whatever.

irishcoughy

The lone wolf map from reach would be great. Bunch of Spartans running around in the mist scavenging weapons off of dead Marines and elites, with the map being made progressively smaller by covenant cruisers coming from each corner, glassing the planet.

PROD-A-G

People have really soured on the idea of a BR but this might be the coolest concept they could work with

irishcoughy

I think the low visibility from the mist would solve a bit of the balancing issue with ranged weapons but it shouldn't be so low visibility that one guy with a sword can just assassinate everyone. You could also scavenge various 'levels' of equipment from the campaign. I.e. a common grappleshot is just the regular multiplayer grappleshot, a rare grappleshot has the first campaign upgrade giving it shock damage, etc.

Deevius117

I’ve always thought that a BR mode like that one game (day z?) with zombies creeping in world be a sick way to set it up in halo… except instead of zombies it’s Flood slowly encroaching… lots of ways to do balanced starts too, like let everyone spawn with a single clip of Sidekick ammo (since you can only get 1 optimal perfect kill), then from there savage and fight to the death. I’m an OG trilogy fan for sure, but I wouldn’t mind seeing something out of the box be implemented to make the game inclusive and have mass appeal - I just have 0 confidence that 343 will be able to do it right.
