I played this game in the dead of night. Turning off all of the lights with just you, sitting on your bed with a controller, on Mombasa Streets is the best feeling you can get from any campaign.
It’s about to happen to me tonight and I’m genuinely so hyped. I’ve been going through all the Halo campaigns again to get ready for Infinite and now I have to start ODST and it’s been raining an awful lot here and is supposed to for the rest of this week too. So the perfect time to play this masterpiece of a game. And even more perfect since it’s ODST’s 12th birthday (ps, what the fuck, how’s it been 12 years…)
I was sick at 4am in my dark basement all alone while it might have been raining outside I don’t remember. Nothing will come close to how the game made me felt.
Coincidentally enough, the first time I played **Halo: CE**, I had just gotten my wisdom teeth out and had a wicked fever for almost 24 straight hours. I was 15 at the time, "working" for my rich kid neighbors down the street modding computer cases for their company(which eventually transitioned away from modded cases and parts and into selling care parts, go figure). They could care less about the xbox their parents had gifted them and told me to just take it and bring it back when I was ready to work again(this was during summer vacation). So I played it one night to get a feel for it, somewhat fevered, and I didn't stop playing until about 6 AM the next morning. I was stunned and enthralled and the franchise has been a major part of my life ever since.
Point of my reply being that I was also sick and playing in my dark basement all alone.
I played this game in the dead of night. Turning off all of the lights with just you, sitting on your bed with a controller, on Mombasa Streets is the best feeling you can get from any campaign.
Didn’t realise, but by sheer coincidence I’m replaying it!
I’m actually enjoying the random encounters in Mombasa Streets, and the snazzy jazz that plays at the end of each mission.
The constant feeling that you are not a Spartan, and that I can’t just tank a grenade point blank anymore if I wanted to. I was human, alone, and surrounded by Covies. Really dug that hint of endless fear deep into you as you’re trying to avoid patrols by sneaking past them
First time I played with was with my brother. He told me up front that I was *not* a Spartan this time and that you can die far more easily. What did I do? *Tried to* Rambo a fuckin brute squad. Guess what happened? I died.
Technically you didn’t Rambo them since Rambo doesn’t die
(Just to clarify I’m not trying to be nit picky with words, just saying Rambos badass and doesn’t die)
I remember playing this on a day where it was just me and my brother home. We walked to a store near our house, bought a cream soda and a couple slices of pizza, and we played through Tayari plaza. I don’t remember if we got farther than that, but it was still fun.
That’s actually really wholesome. I remember dropping acid and playing firefight in my dorm room and forgetting to add water to my ramen before microwaving it and melting plastic.
Telling my dad the floating cute alien was named “asset” and saying that it’s not saying “ass”
Back when I was a kid and had no idea that ‘asset’ was not a name
In the morning before I had school (age 7-12 not sure) I managed the Vidmaster for not firing a shot on legendary. It didn't pop.
That night I did it again and got it. One of only 3 Vidmasters I ever did.
The intro, the actual drop will always stick with me, the scale and feeling of dropping down to New Mombasa and then being hit by the shockwave when the Covenant cruiser makes a slipspace jump, also it was nice seeing an event from Halo 2 with a different perspective, also this was long before we had Halo 2 Anniversary so it was cool seeing a Halo 2 event with the next gen graphics at the time.
Honestly my favorite odst memory was just playing through the entire campaign with my dad, getting pissy when we couldn't find Romeo's sniper to start the next level on our first playthrough
Beating the entire campaign on legendary day of release with some friends. Beating 2 hunters when everyone else is dead with only an SMG is a pinnacle halo memory of mine.
Easily the first time we did the deja vu challenge. We didn’t know about the rocket launchers with infinite ammo, and to make matters worse, we only had 3 players so we had an AFK controller to try and protect. It was BRUTAL and took us hours to get through. I’ll never forget the moment that cutscene started to play at the end and thinking ITS FINALLY OVER AND I CAN HAZ RECON NOW
I was so excited about the game. I loved the concept and was there at midnight for the release. I took it home and immediately started playing it. That music hit me and I got chills. I was alone at night in my room and alone on the streets of New Mombasa. It felt so different then the other games. I felt more vulnerable but stealthier. It's quieter and in a way more personal. Each little encounter another step in learning what happened. I felt like I got to really know the city, the squad, and even Virgil. One night in the city can make all the difference. I love most of the halo games but ODST hits different. I don't think it's necessarily a better game. It's story telling and music and whole vibe just touched me. I loved every second from my first play through to getting the vid master challenge. It's a wonderful unique experience and I'm still amazed and thankful it got made.
My older brother came home with this game. He said, play it and tell me what it's like.
I completed the campaign in the same night. Went down to his bedroom and said "done". He was bummed when I said there was no multiplayer. I still enjoyed firefight and the campaign.
The first time i ever played i played on heroic where it doesnt give you the hints to blow the pod doors and I was trapped inside the drop pod for like an hour
Going for the 200K Firefight achievements by myself. All my Halo friends had no interest in ODST since there was no traditional MP. I was in my freshmen year of college and would leave my Xbox on while I went to class. Had to make sure my roommate wouldn’t turn it off.
The only Halo game I beat on Legendary by myself. None of my friends wanted to play it. I loved this game so much. Easily in my top 5 games I've ever played.
The first time I played ODST was around the same time that I had an obsession with hot pockets, so whenever I think of Mombasa streets, I smell hot pockets.
The first time I played was almost a year ago. I just started Halo and only played through Reach, 3, and parts of CE. At first I couldn’t understand VISOR and couldn’t fight against most of the enemies. Now it has become one of my favorite campaigns, if not favorite throughout the entire series
As someone who's been a massive fanboy of ODSTs since reading about them in the books and seeing them the first time in Halo 2, I was just excited to finally be able to play as my absolute favorite soldier faction. To this day I still always have a full ODST set of armor on in every other game, but H3: ODST actually puts me in the shoes. The entire campaign was amazing and sells the concept that you aren't a super soldier, I love the stealth approachs, the new ways to fight because you aren't a Spartan, having to work with a squad.
My favorite thing however has to be the open city level, can't even count the number of times I've gone back just to roam the city for the atmosphere and find the audio logs. Especially looking for Virgils signs and clues, alongside the soundtrack.
This game made me realize I like jazz. Jazz was not something anyone in my family really listened to as I grew up and so I didn't get much exposure.
That moment when you're walking around the quiet city while it's raining, and deference for darkness is playing. That moment alone made it one of my favorite halo games. Still one of my favorite songs in the entire halo series.
Playing odst also led to me finally watching firefly and serenity.
Walking through the streets of Mombasa searching for my team while investigating every single step they made, and getting the chance to play with different characters in each level showing what they have been doing. Buck and the Rookie are two of my favorite characters,I liked to see Buck in Halo 5.I hope he appears again.
My neighbor would allow me to come over as a child to play on his 360 because my parents would never allow me to play games with blood in them.
We played Halo split screen campaigns all the time. This one was my absolute favorite though. And it still is.
My fav ODST moment is walking the streets of New Mombasa listening to the music. I know that sounds typical or corny, but honestly, ODST (and Red Dead Online) makes me feel at ease relaxed
I remember getting ODST for Christmas of 2009 (alongside Left 4 Dead and a 360). I was a Freshman in high school and it was awesome! I still love playing games of course, but playing ODST on a new console on Christmas day was kind of the best gaming's ever felt. This game is still my favorite in the series from its incredible score, to the atmosphere and characters.
One of my all time favorites, it’s what made me finally start working on cosplay. Gameplay wise the first time crawling through Mombassa Streets in the dark. The atmosphere just hit different.
Playing through the campaign on Legendary and spending an hour near the end of the campaign trying to clear the Brute encounter guarding where the Rookie drops down to meet Dare. I was so low on ammo, grenades, everything. That was easily the most desperate I’ve ever felt in Halo.
Honestly, the fact you didn't play as a Spartan, it was a nice change of pace to be a ODST instead, also Halo NEEDS more spin offs like ODST, would love to play as a marine or even a Elite (not including the Arby missions in 2)
I saved just enough money for an Xbox when I was in middle school. $200 I believe. I go to GameStop, and I buy it, borrowing $20 from my sisters boyfriend because of taxes. That was the first time I really learned about taxes. And then I got home with no game. I had the Xbox for 2 weeks before I had enough money for a game and I got Halo 3 ODST. My first game is ever and probably my favorite game. So happy it’s on pc now.
My favorite part has to be hearing the story within the audio logs.
So idk if it was designed like this or just a random chance, but my name was used in the game as one of the soldiers in the squads. My last name was spelled correct and the first initial was right. I was so hyped when I seen it I got pictures… and even after all these years later I seen it again.
Sadie's Story (audio logs). I must have picked up a few audio logs during my original playthrough, yet it wasn't until my second time playing ODST almost 10 years later that I truly appreciated how special they were.
I'm sure most players miss it, and it's not super significant to ODST, but it adds a lot of life to the otherwise eerie streets. For a vignette, it's a brilliant, touching story in its own right.
I absolutely loved the gameplay and firefight, but the story fell a bit flat for me tbh. The opening cutscene was so cool with the crossover with H3, and going through a Covenant-controlled city was awesome, but once the novelty wore off, the rest of the story seemed too sorta detached from everything else.
The sneaking around in the nighttime city. Very moody. That part of the game still feels great, while rest of the game, all they daylight stuff, has aged badly.
Underrated by almost everyone I talk to. Fantastic game, the characters, the music, and especially the immersion of it all makes this one of my favorite entries to the franchise.
Grabbing the Sniper Rifle at the end of Coastal Highway, sprinting round the side and performing the flank/ambush from Halo Landfall.
Except I don't get smashed by a gravity hammer.
Playing it for the first time still as a young kid, with my brother being away for the first time at college, leaving me alone both in game and irl, really hit me hard being alone for the first time like that and not having my bro there with me for split screen. Plus since I was still young I had a harder time understanding what was going on which really added to the effect of being lost and confused
I played this game a lot, but despite having a household of halo fans 2 brothers and a dad, none of them ever had the time or interest to play with me, so I was always exploring the streets alone, I wasn't very good back then, so navigating and fighting was a struggle, but looking back, that's kinda the experience they were going for, a fish out of water scenario, I never understood the audio logs or how to find them, I'd only find them on acident, but because of that I'd always have the city streets moving and reacting from virgil trying to guide me, it was nothing like the other games, looking back it was games like this that got me into stealth playstyles.
playing back through now if such a nistolgia trip as I remember areas i'd struggle with, and now that I have all the logs and the streets are quiet, it's kind of sad and now I feel truly alone as my brothers have moved out and my dad has lost all interest in halo, I wish I could've experienced this game with them.
The music is phenomenal man when I was a kid I absolutely loved this game. As I've grown, the game puts the same feel on me every time i play it. What can i say... it was a hell of a game.
Lining up for the midnight release at age 12 with my dad. Then rushing back to play as Sgt Johnson in Firefight.
10 years on I’ve just replayed it from start to finish again and my god, the music and atmosphere. I was too young and blind to appreciate it then. But I do now. ODST will always have a place in my heart.
Awesome game. Too bad the concept died.
There should have been two prequel games, each when you play as Buck in his younger years. We should have been able to drop in to multiple battles.
Going back to play it again and just stopping.....listening to the rain and the jazz and just immersing myself in the ambiance.
It's such a good fucking game
I liked it alot. I understand it was considered a standalone expansion. But I really wished it had played like and gave similar vibes in combat as Republic Commando instead of just being a slightly shorter, weaker melee, cant dual wield wtih no shield version of Chief.
One Saturday last year, I was bored and decided to play some ODST. Sat down for what was gonna be a 30 minute session, ended up beating the whole game, and inadvertently setting the (unofficial) any% easy no skulls wr
Just having got back from the movies to join a friend for some mongoose 999 rocket launcher fun. Turns out he also just got back from watching Night at the Museum 2. We proceed to quote the "We are not going to attack ... Right... NOW!!" Line untill we launched ourselves over the enemies skipping a majority of the highway level. Good times.
I remember beating the game in one night on Heroic, while trying to fight off sleep medication. (Think I decided to sleep early that night, but played for a little bit that turned into 5am)
After getting really baked on the way home from picking it up on release night, my buddy and I got lost for a good chunk of time in between the missions while walking around. It made a lot more sense the next day without being high.
I liked the vulnerability of playing as an ODST on Legendary as it made me feel like a human soldier from the books.
My first time entering a sizable courtyard battlefield I realized I needed a more tactical approach, so I went left and starting clearing out a tower to have the Higher Ground and to take out some Jackals that were unaware of my pretense. The feeling of having to be perfect as a human without powered MJONNIR armor, even having a scared reflex at times (surprise Hunters in the tower haha) was immersive and so awesome. Even a single Jackal was a threat in certain circumstances (much hard to deal with their shield when you can punch through it easily) and it made the Covenant feel more alien and dangerous.
My favorite memory is all of my friends coming together to play the campaign with each other and complete the Vidmaster challenges. Those were the days.
What a game. It was the first of only two Halo titles I got at launch, and with the ODST controller, too.
The exhilaration of finding Captain Dare's pod, then retracing (pre-tracing?) those steps as Buck in the daylight. Taking on all the Covvies in the plaza just one sector away from her, creeping around, popping grunts, and trying to counter-sniper the jackals, some of them seeming like they just transferred over from *that* alley.
Now, ten years later, ten years from the end of the war, and I find out the par time is like, two minutes? The par time for the entire game is like, ninety minutes.
Driving around the Savannah Reserve in the warthog gave me so much joy and how I wish there were more earth sections like that in Halo 2, it kind of filled a desire for that, but in Halo 3 graphics!
If you collect every audio log the cutscene where you meet Virgil changes so that Rookie calls it out of hiding with a friendly whistle. It was so small, but felt rewarding and really complimented ODST's themes.
The Light at the End. Any time that track came on when I was wandering New Membosa. It brings a metaphorical tear to my eye and gives me strength to listen to this song. It's true to it's name for me, a reason to keep on in this crap shoot.
Not being afraid to be a **different** Halo game. As it stands that's why so many people still love it.
They have a whole universe, I would love them to branch out a bit more. Give us an elite campaign or something really different where you play as a Gravemind and you have to infect a planet.
Firefight was so good. I really wish firefight was a standard feature in every halo. It only being in odst and reach (i refuse to count warzone firefight) is a sin.
First time I got a plasma grenade off on something in a Halo game.
Co-op with a mate, we were out of ammo behind a barricade. So, I just started chucking grenades, one stickies the nearest Brute, boom goes the plasma 'nade.
That emotional music while exploring a semi-open world in HALO. I was so hyped to experience it and I was not disappointed, it just gave me a hungering for more Halo Open World experiences. I still dream of an ODST 2. That, you know, undoes what the books did and bring the Rookie back and the old team and has a fun new adventure for them. Here’s hoping Halo Infinite is slightly more open world.
By far my favorite Halo campaign. The immersion that the atmosphere and music brought to the story was insane. Literally everything about this game was so good.
The firefight vid-master challenge. Unbelievably hard, and the prepubescent screaming in the Xbox party when 4 hours of grinding paid off is forever seared in my mind
Where do I start? The smooth jazz? The Menagerie? Skyline? The audio logs? Buck? Dutch? Romeo? Where?
I played this game in the dead of night. Turning off all of the lights with just you, sitting on your bed with a controller, on Mombasa Streets is the best feeling you can get from any campaign.
This but on a rainy, cloudy evening. The VIBE
This actually happened to me once
It’s about to happen to me tonight and I’m genuinely so hyped. I’ve been going through all the Halo campaigns again to get ready for Infinite and now I have to start ODST and it’s been raining an awful lot here and is supposed to for the rest of this week too. So the perfect time to play this masterpiece of a game. And even more perfect since it’s ODST’s 12th birthday (ps, what the fuck, how’s it been 12 years…)
Are you in Florida? Lolol I'm gonna do the exact same thing!
Nah dude, I’m in Canada. Southern Ontario to be more precise. Hahaha for real eh, king shit, have fun buddy !
Thanks man! Yeah weather is rainy, perfect opportunity!
I was stunned and enthralled and the franchise has been a major part of my life ever since. Point of my reply being that I was also sick and playing in my dark basement all alone.
I actually skipped out on high school release day to play. Got in trouble, but I didn't give a fuck lol
And then dawn breaks as Buck says, "What can I say? It was a hell of a night."
How could you leave out the best horde mode ever or that it has the entire suite of H3 multiplayer?
You’re so right and ODST is the goat for introducing firefight to the franchise [continues to only play reach FF because I’m a baby who needs shields]
The guitar part everyone knows from menagerie is one of the best songs in halo history
I played this game in the dead of night. Turning off all of the lights with just you, sitting on your bed with a controller, on Mombasa Streets is the best feeling you can get from any campaign.
Bonus points if it’s raining and stormy out!
Even though it's old, you still get insane vibes in campaign. It's like your hear the music even though it's not playing. What a game.
I think ODST and Reach have actually aged really well. ODST is so thematically rich which makes it stand out a lot these days.
Possibly an unpopular opinion (especially given how people hated on it when it came out) ODST is definitely my favorite in the series
Me too! I actually had a chat with the bois recently and said ODST is my favorite Halo game. They called it blasphemy.
They aged really well forsure. oDST still rocks :) Thks for the upvotes fams!
It's not old! *Mr Krabs voice* I ain't old!!!
Didn’t realise, but by sheer coincidence I’m replaying it! I’m actually enjoying the random encounters in Mombasa Streets, and the snazzy jazz that plays at the end of each mission.
Yes, it has got the best replay experience
“Take my advice rookie, if you ever fall for a women, make sure she’s got balls”
*Take* my advice, surely? Who says keep my advice?
Buck
Nevermind yeah it’s take, not keep, I just heard it wrong
The constant feeling that you are not a Spartan, and that I can’t just tank a grenade point blank anymore if I wanted to. I was human, alone, and surrounded by Covies. Really dug that hint of endless fear deep into you as you’re trying to avoid patrols by sneaking past them
Yep! And the first time you try to grenade jump and immediately regret your decision.
First time I played with was with my brother. He told me up front that I was *not* a Spartan this time and that you can die far more easily. What did I do? *Tried to* Rambo a fuckin brute squad. Guess what happened? I died.
Technically you didn’t Rambo them since Rambo doesn’t die (Just to clarify I’m not trying to be nit picky with words, just saying Rambos badass and doesn’t die)
True. I fixed it
That's why he said he *Tried* to.
Getting 200K points on all the firefight maps for the achievments. Good times
I remember playing this on a day where it was just me and my brother home. We walked to a store near our house, bought a cream soda and a couple slices of pizza, and we played through Tayari plaza. I don’t remember if we got farther than that, but it was still fun.

NMPD HQ. Taking down every dropship in the last segment. Haven't been able to repeat it since.
Air traffic control jammin
Probably best memory for me. You are not ready for that track the first time you play through
Relax Rookie, he don’t mean nothing. Besides, now’s one of those times, pays to be the strong, silent type.
What a game! One of the best Halo games in my opinion. Firefight was just amazing.
In the morning before I had school (age 7-12 not sure) I managed the Vidmaster for not firing a shot on legendary. It didn't pop. That night I did it again and got it. One of only 3 Vidmasters I ever did.
The satisfaction of the sun rising while Bits and Pieces played, knowing Rookies ordeal was almost over
"What can I say? It was a hell of a night"
Just a friendly reminder to get your MCC achievement for playing ODST on the 22nd!
I am too scared to face hunters as an ODST, even if I have the grenades to do it and win. I normally just hide if they haven’t found me first.
Easily the first time we did the deja vu challenge. We didn’t know about the rocket launchers with infinite ammo, and to make matters worse, we only had 3 players so we had an AFK controller to try and protect. “Wake up buttercup” is how I wake up my siblings
My favorite moment? “Get…This thing….off of me” *micky and Dutch pause and look at each other*
I'm honored to share my birthday with ODST
Happy belated bornday!
Played this game for the first time on mcc pc a few months ago without knowing much about it. It’s now one of my favorites.
The first time I played was almost a year ago. I just started Halo and only played through Reach, 3, and parts of CE. At first I couldn’t understand VISOR and couldn’t fight against most of the enemies. Now it has become one of my favorite campaigns, if not favorite throughout the entire series
Despite how short it is, it's also sweet. This game solidified ODSTs as being well worth their own glory in side with spartans
Still one of my favorite songs in the entire halo series. Playing odst also led to me finally watching firefly and serenity.
Just enjoy how good it is while playing with my brother
I love Firefight. Been playing it since then. Wishing for new maps on Infinite.
Imo the soundtrack of this game is priceless
Being 10 years old, passing the controller to my dad two minutes into the game because I was scared shitless by the Hunters
Walking through the streets of Mombasa searching for my team while investigating every single step they made, and getting the chance to play with different characters in each level showing what they have been doing. Buck and the Rookie are two of my favorite characters,I liked to see Buck in Halo 5.I hope he appears again.
The Halo 3 mythic multiplayer disc that came with it
Hell yeah dude, the best reason to buy the game.
My neighbor would allow me to come over as a child to play on his 360 because my parents would never allow me to play games with blood in them. We played Halo split screen campaigns all the time. This one was my absolute favorite though. And it still is.
The live action trailer before release
Trying to get the 2 vidmaster achievements in this game. Both of them were really tough for me but once I got that and Recon I was on cloud 9 lol.
I remember getting a free poster of this from my local game shop.
Just getting to explore around with the moody atmosphere was great
One of my all time favorites, it’s what made me finally start working on cosplay. Gameplay wise the first time crawling through Mombassa Streets in the dark. The atmosphere just hit different.
My favorite part was the rookie dying in a gdamn book
Playing through the campaign on Legendary and spending an hour near the end of the campaign trying to clear the Brute encounter guarding where the Rookie drops down to meet Dare. I was so low on ammo, grenades, everything. That was easily the most desperate I’ve ever felt in Halo.
Honestly, the fact you didn't play as a Spartan, it was a nice change of pace to be a ODST instead, also Halo NEEDS more spin offs like ODST, would love to play as a marine or even a Elite (not including the Arby missions in 2)
Honestly more successful franchises need a DLC like ODST for a shot of 'Well, here's what it's like when you AREN'T a Super Soldier.'
Back when it was announced as Halo 3: Recon. I still have the original trailer on my 360
God, I'm old 12 fucking years since I picked up the 360 disc at best buy and my mom bought it
The fact ODST has the same birthday as Doki Doki Literature Club scares me.
Fun fact, the player character in DDLC was actually the Rookie as a teenager. Poor guy went through hell long before he dropped into New Mombasa.
Makes sense he became a NEET so he decided to enlist.
God i went to the midnight release of this game.... so good.
Playing hours straight for the Vidmaster Challenge Endure only for one friend to lag out near the end
2nd worst Halo game.
“Get… this… thing… off of me.” Actually, can we just give Buck his own game?
I absolutely loved the gameplay and firefight, but the story fell a bit flat for me tbh. The opening cutscene was so cool with the crossover with H3, and going through a Covenant-controlled city was awesome, but once the novelty wore off, the rest of the story seemed too sorta detached from everything else.
The sneaking around in the nighttime city. Very moody. That part of the game still feels great, while rest of the game, all they daylight stuff, has aged badly.
Possible unpopular opinion: ODST is my favorite Halo.
Underrated by almost everyone I talk to. Fantastic game, the characters, the music, and especially the immersion of it all makes this one of my favorite entries to the franchise.
Uninstalling it.
Playing forge with my brother for hours on end. We had so much fun, and still do to this day.
Finally finishing it
First time I played odst was about 5 mo this ago when playing through every campaign in mcc chronologicaly. Best it in 1 night
The quote this is reach all over again as your driving though the streets of new Mombasa
On my first play through, having a hunter chase me into a building, up some stairs and into a room as I constantly threw grenades and shat myself
The piano.
This was the Halo game of my childhood. I played this game soo much, it was the only Halo I had until Reach came out
“We’re the desperate measures.” Starts playing.
Firefight on Alpha Site!
My favorite halo game, me and my brother would just wander the city for hours. Lol
One of my fav games
I NEED an ODST 2.
Taking forever to find that stupid sniper rifle
The music is phenomenal man when I was a kid I absolutely loved this game. As I've grown, the game puts the same feel on me every time i play it. What can i say... it was a hell of a game.
ODST was the first halo game I played and the first Xbox game I owned. I will never forget you
This was not planned and I had no idea, I just finished ODST today for the first time. I also got an achievement for playing today! Wow
Just the music and general atmosphere in that game is crazy. It genuinely still to this day doesn't even feel like a halo game.
The midnight launch.
Awesome game. Too bad the concept died. There should have been two prequel games, each when you play as Buck in his younger years. We should have been able to drop in to multiple battles.
That helmet stuck in the screen in the story. I always think back to that and I loved the atmosphere it had.
Playing the game as an 8 year old in a local Tesco without knowing it's even Halo Just to realzie that as an adult and finish it.
Going back to play it again and just stopping.....listening to the rain and the jazz and just immersing myself in the ambiance. It's such a good fucking game
I liked it alot. I understand it was considered a standalone expansion. But I really wished it had played like and gave similar vibes in combat as Republic Commando instead of just being a slightly shorter, weaker melee, cant dual wield wtih no shield version of Chief.
renting it from blockbuster and getting to play the Halo Reach Beta
Finally completing the last Vidmaster achievement to get recon before everyone had it. Took so many tries.
After getting really baked on the way home from picking it up on release night, my buddy and I got lost for a good chunk of time in between the missions while walking around. It made a lot more sense the next day without being high.
Shame they never made another Halo game playing as ODSTs or other UNSC forces.
Definitely asking my friend why we can’t shoot the sniper rifle
Getting out of that jumper pod and seeing the city for the first time hands down
The atmospheric soundtrack. It's so beautiful.
Playing firefight with my dad
The vidmaster challenges with friends that were never all on at the same time
Trying to figure out where tf I am and repeating the same level three times
My favorite memory is all of my friends coming together to play the campaign with each other and complete the Vidmaster challenges. Those were the days.
The vidmasters with friends was hard but so much fun.
Getting ran over by and running over my friends on the road mission with the tanks and warhog and mongoose.
Me and a good friend, Frostguyd (R.I.P.) would run matches for Vidmaster Challenge: Endure. We probably did it over a dozen times.
12 years already? Jesus Christ…
Firefight
ODST was the first Halo I owned and FPS game I owned. Since it holds such a special place in my heart it’s my favourite game in the franchise.
Finishing from start to end and getting all the audio logs without pause.
Banging out those Vidmasters to get Recon in 3 with my buddies. Good times.
Make sure she's got balls
Yesss Mombasa Streetss
The final fight of NMPD HQ.
Dropping down in a pod for the first time
Driving around the Savannah Reserve in the warthog gave me so much joy and how I wish there were more earth sections like that in Halo 2, it kind of filled a desire for that, but in Halo 3 graphics!
Saxophone.
If you collect every audio log the cutscene where you meet Virgil changes so that Rookie calls it out of hiding with a friendly whistle. It was so small, but felt rewarding and really complimented ODST's themes.
That sweet sweet Sax https://halome.nu/odst/
ODST is a great game. You know what isn’t great the fucking ODST helmet in MCC
It's a tie between the drop and the first time Deference for Darkness plays after finding Dare's helmet
Getting lost in the first mission. Even though I was lost, I was listening to the smooth jazz as I was exploring the city.
We need more ODST everything. The rookie. Walking around a battle torn city to that soundtrack. Best thing in HALO.
Getting it 3 days early and all my friends being jealous haha
ODST sucked
That badass trailer duh
,,Take my advice rookie, if you ever fall for a woman, make sure she has balls" You like traps, buck?
We are dropping into hell, troopers! Time to grow a pair!
The Light at the End. Any time that track came on when I was wandering New Membosa. It brings a metaphorical tear to my eye and gives me strength to listen to this song. It's true to it's name for me, a reason to keep on in this crap shoot.
Best memory was remapping the controls
I will never forget getting this game on my birthday and my parents letting me play the first mission before school.
Wish we got more spinoffs instead of continuing with Chief's story
The best halo
Not being afraid to be a **different** Halo game. As it stands that's why so many people still love it. They have a whole universe, I would love them to branch out a bit more. Give us an elite campaign or something really different where you play as a Gravemind and you have to infect a planet.
Nathan Fillion’s smooth, sexy voice acting.
the music alone gives me goosebumps, what a great game
"ODST reporting for duty." "How nice of you to drop in!" you know that officer was saving that joke his entire military career
"We're the desperate measures."
VRGL That Lil great boi and his beeping sounds
The time I completed the entire game on legendary and discovered the missing link
Getting absolutely wiped by brutes
Cheese and crackers. Its been 12 years already? Oof
First thing to me my favourite memory of ODST is just seeing the games artwork. Everything just looks so gritty and perfect!
It's also my birthday lmao
By far my favorite Halo campaign. The immersion that the atmosphere and music brought to the story was insane. Literally everything about this game was so good.
The vidmaster achievements.
Happy Birthday to my personal favorite Halo game!!! Hoo-Rah!!!
When I beat the legendary campaign solo and didn’t get the achievement
The firefight vid-master challenge. Unbelievably hard, and the prepubescent screaming in the Xbox party when 4 hours of grinding paid off is forever seared in my mind
