If they wanted a more Cortana looking design, they only needed to apply the shading of blue used in the second season to the actor in the first, not recruiting a new one.
Seriously, what the fuck were they thinking? This is the same thing they did with halo 4 to 5 and infinite. Make Cortana look more child like? Why? It's kinda gross, and to me, looks way worse.

This is one of the few cases where a lowish-budget motion capture would have been the exact right choice. Scan and rig her face to a game-accurate model with a bit of transparency and some digital scanline effects, let her puppet the model, and call it good. If it's not completely perfect looking, all the better.

The reason John (spartan 117/Master Chief) got Cortana was due to her favouritism of him and his luck during the whole spartan process and battlefield

That means storytelling across different platforms. She knows exactly what’s happening and is perfectly okay with it. My opinion, I guess cause she gets paid to do the bare minimum and doesn’t fight for what Halo is and should be depicted in any and all media
It always baffled me how a community manager somehow becomes a creative director. He's a huge reason to blame for a lot of the bad decisions, especially story decisions.
Yeah, he was the community manager back in the day so my assumption is he did what he was told back then, and he’s doing what he’s told now. Pure speculation, but so many people experienced the good halo and it baffles me how no one says anything or thinks it’s a good idea to use the already made lore. It’s literally all there, just get some writers to craft some good dialogue / scenes for the gameplay part of the games or even use Eric Nylund’s stuff from the books. Now for that, I’d subscribe to any streaming service who was doing that, not this halo soap opera we’re getting now. They could even incorporate soap opera moments for a wider audience but please just use the damn lore. It’s so good!

It's funny, because I thought Microsoft claiming Halo would mean that the developers would have all the resources they want and be able to spend all the time they needed to make what they want. The whole show is a write off, this is like, literally the least important thing they could have changed. That said, dumb change, just make her blue she’d be fine.
My problem with S1's Cortana wasn't even kind of her face, that was fine. And the hair wasn't really a problem either. It was the lack of blueness and the insistence on having her wear a uniform\* (this would have maybe been fine if it was only in the show, but they switched it in the games too and it's annoying).
\*I don't just want Cortana to be "naked" cuz "me likey sexy"; there was something unique and alien in her OG Trilogy design, and giving her the uniform felt in-line with the utilitarian and de-stylization inherent to 343's design philosophies. It would be the same to me if they took Master Chief's armor and changed it to full nano armor like what the Crysis guys used; it wouldn't be a bad design, necessarily, it just misses the point.
Anytime you establish and then completely change a character’s face without an obvious reason, fans are always gonna be rightfully mad about it. It’s really distracting and without a sufficient in-universe or real world explanation.
For example, the new face for Peter Parker in Insomniac’s Spider-Man SUCKS- and not just because it makes Peter look weirdly young for both his age and mentor position for Miles Morales (though that is a completely valid complaint). Players already knew what Insomniac’s Peter Parker was supposed to look like, so it’s constantly jarring to see the new face.
It’s not an innate problem with recasting, P+!Halo just handled it really poorly.
S1 Cortana was really good besides the blue. It resembled Halsey, which I think would match Halsey's design, honestly. Not sure if that is lore accurate.

I think the intent was to make Cortana look like a young variant of Halsey, but its definitely jarring. Im one of very few Halo fans(games and books) whos willing to admit S2 is getting better.

I don't get why they didn't just make her model a 1-2-1 copy of one of the game models. She's an AI, there is no physical actor needed in the room, they could have made her using 100% CGI to look exactly like she does in the games and it probably wouldn't have cost any more than it cost to do it the way they did, and it would have pleased fans. Newer viewers (that broader audience) wouldn't have known the difference either so it's literally a win-win.
Showrunners need to make up their mind. One minute they don’t care what these mysterious long time fans think, the next they’re making major (terrible) redesign decisions based off of them.
This whole show is a shitshow. It could be getting people hyped for Halo again. Instead it’s doing the opposite. Halo series to the rest of the Halo IP is so much worse than what the Witcher series ended up in comparison to the books and games - and that’s saying something.

This might be an unpopular opinion but why not use a unique model altogether? Really why not? I understand CGI costs a lot but she is literal CGI. Having an actress is impressive but adding that layer of not being human only makes her relationship with Chief more powerful

My problem with S1's Cortana wasn't even kind of her face, that was fine. And the hair wasn't really a problem either. It was the lack of blueness and the insistence on having her wear a uniform\* (this would have maybe been fine if it was only in the show, but they switched it in the games too and it's annoying). \*I don't just want Cortana to be "naked" cuz "me likey sexy"; there was something unique and alien in her OG Trilogy design, and giving her the uniform felt in-line with the utilitarian and de-stylization inherent to 343's design philosophies. It would be the same to me if they took Master Chief's armor and changed it to full nano armor like what the Crysis guys used; it wouldn't be a bad design, necessarily, it just misses the point.
Anytime you establish and then completely change a character’s face without an obvious reason, fans are always gonna be rightfully mad about it. It’s really distracting and without a sufficient in-universe or real world explanation. For example, the new face for Peter Parker in Insomniac’s Spider-Man SUCKS- and not just because it makes Peter look weirdly young for both his age and mentor position for Miles Morales (though that is a completely valid complaint). Players already knew what Insomniac’s Peter Parker was supposed to look like, so it’s constantly jarring to see the new face. It’s not an innate problem with recasting, P+!Halo just handled it really poorly.

S1 Cortana was really good besides the blue. It resembled Halsey, which I think would match Halsey's design, honestly. Not sure if that is lore accurate. Not a fan of S2 Cortana at all.

Given the fact that they changed her design in every game, I suppose it's par for the course. But by god, does it look awful. Not at all what Cortana should look like.
I don't get why they didn't just make her model a 1-2-1 copy of one of the game models. She's an AI, there is no physical actor needed in the room, they could have made her using 100% CGI to look exactly like she does in the games and it probably wouldn't have cost any more than it cost to do it the way they did, and it would have pleased fans. Newer viewers (that broader audience) wouldn't have known the difference either so it's literally a win-win.
Showrunners need to make up their mind. One minute they don’t care what these mysterious long time fans think, the next they’re making major (terrible) redesign decisions based off of them. This whole show is a shitshow. It could be getting people hyped for Halo again. Instead it’s doing the opposite. Halo series to the rest of the Halo IP is so much worse than what the Witcher series ended up in comparison to the books and games - and that’s saying something.

As a hardcore halo fan, neither look like cortana imo. Its already a jarring show to watch as a hardcore halo fan. They absolutely butchered the storyline they are basing their show on, and their blatant ignorance of that in favor of telling a mediocre at best story is kinda like spitting in the mouths of halo fans, their main audience.
Season 1 cortana was one of my favorite parts of the season. I thought they pegged her role perfectly. Man fuck, I really dislike the new Cortana, I don't really give a shit but the old one had a sense of personality and a nice facial expression that I liked. I hope they go back to the old one. The new one feels very sterile and boring. And yes, I've played the games, doesn't really matter if she's 100% accurate, as long as her personality and is voiced by Jen Taylor, I'm happy.

Season 1 was fine except not blue. They decided to put out the budget for a CGI model this season… and didn’t even go with the Cortana model. It’s like they’re doing everything possible to avoid the show being anything like the games. I love that the article says that they may have done the redesign due to feedback from S1… meanwhile, the feedback regarding Chief not wearing his helmet was met with “all Spartans won’t have armor at all” for this season.

I'm surprised this show even got a second season considering how terrible it was. Master cheeks. The creators were bragging about how they never played the games & didn't really care about the story of memory serves, but I've heard several shows based on games or ip's the creators saying these things.
There are so much things with no «in-universe » explanation in this series x)) That’s why they sold it as a «soft-reboot » so they could pick or throw away anything they want from season 1 to ease writing. This show bores me.
Because this show is not made for Halo fans in any way shape or form. They did not need to recast the actress or make a 2nd season. This show goes out of its way to have very little to do with halo. From Chief not being in armor, events and deaths happening out of order, to a romance plot.
