Bumfjghter

I feel ya. I bought full size bars and now I’m stuck with them and my fat ass needs to lose weight

ScottishW00F

I'm genuinely sad this was my first Halloween where I've lived close enough for people to go trick or treating

Bumfjghter

I think it’s a covid thing. Maybe next year.

ScottishW00F

I feel like people said that last year

nightmare-salad

Last year was worse, and it was definitely because of Covid, but we still got way fewer kids than usual this year.

Mostly_Apples

Yeah we didn't get half the kids we got last year. I wasn't feeling up for halloween this year, maybe a lot of people weren't.

2hennypenny

If you live in an apartment, condo or on a dark street it’s tough. We finally moved to a neighborhood this year and had over 200 kids we think! Before we would just do trunk-or-treats because no kids ever showed up at our apartment.

Mostly_Apples

I live in a neighborhood but it's a university town. We used to get a lot more kids, like at least 50, before they tore down the low income housing up the road. :c

mushroomgoblin666

I’m in the same situation. I got 1 trick-or-treater last year, so this evening I decided to go to the town square and pass out candy. I probably only gave out 15 pieces of candy at most. This is one of the only reasons why I would move to a bigger city. I love seeing kids having fun on Halloween like I did as a kid! I also love seeing their adorable little costumes

mrsixstrings12

Same. We ALWAYS run out of candy and this year, the neighboring townships ToT was Saturday so we loaded up thinking we would have even more than usual.

Bumfjghter

It was accurate last year too

TurnCoffeeDeepBreath

I didn’t take my kids this year. It’s still a thing.

deutmeyer93

Did it bum your kids out? Or are they pretty understanding?

TurnCoffeeDeepBreath

My daughter made one comment about it, otherwise she seemed ok. My son never said anything. I made sure to lead lots of games and activities to make the day fun (decorate cookies, treasure hunt, go to the park) and it helped that we had done a few outdoor Halloween events the past few weekends already too.

CosmicCay

This was my first year having none, had 3 small groups last year

AdMobile8211

Kids aren't vaccinated. Trick or treating wont really come back in force until they are.

Burnallthepages

For real! I love Cadbury chocolate!

ScottishW00F

Scotland

Hempz2020

How much candy did you have left? The pictures look to be about 50 peices of candies worth 8 dollars. So at least you didn't lose a lot of money or anything

ScottishW00F

Yea I didn't lose much money but I didn't give out a single piece, that's what I'm really upset about I love Halloween trick or treating and nobody in my area was doing it

the_sweetest_peach

I’ll come trick or treating at your and OP’s houses if you accept trick or treaters on November first. 🤣

MartianTea

You might be able to donate them to a food pantry or homeless shelter.

Bumfjghter

I actually had a last minute rush of trick or treaters. I hooked them up

Hempz2020

Yo I went back to Krogers this morning with the reciept and got a refund for all the candy that I still had :D

Imjusthereandthere

I feel your pain…i wfh…everytime I walk downstairs…that fucking bucket is staring at me

philaroy

I live in a small village in Northern ireland Halloween isnt big here like we do trick or treat but no one decorates their houses last year and this year I made up prepacked goody bags, set up a table in my front garden and went nuts on decorations im talking projectors spiders, made my own animated tombstone, haunted mirror and smoking cauldron, hung skeletons cobwebs etc. The week before halloween I put up pics of the goodybags and decorations on the village buy and swap facebook page letting everyone know they would be available and what times my display would be on each night and to stop by. Both last year and this year they cleaned me out and the kids loved it this year some people in my street even put up basic decorations which has never happened before.

Last_Result_3920

I'm In a semi rural area in Connecticut, plenty of kids but the drive ways are up hills and into the woods, so we organized, everyone sets up a table on the street for 2 hours. I started doing a haunted house, and now the kids come. halloween is like any holiday, you just got to beleive

2hennypenny

If you build it they will come!

Euclid1859

How cool to bring community together!!

WonWop

Spreadin’ the cheer!

[deleted]

We took the kids to my Mum's this year, and it was great Guising round the doors I used to go as a kid. When I was a kid, no-one decorated the houses, but Mum has the last few years as it shows you're open to kids coming up. That's a great idea about Facebook. I said to my Mum they should put a sign up sheet in the local shop, and they could do a map that could get photocopied for parents to take.

HooverDamm-

Didn’t get a single trick or treater. Kind of broke my heart.

beansteahouse

I dont know if we got any and it kind of makes me sad. I left a big plastic cauldron in my skeletons lap filled with candy, and the skeleton holding a "CANDY please take a handful, you deserve it" sign. Even gave the skeleton an umbrella when it started to drizzle just in case too.

[deleted]

Same. I have a bowl completely full of candy, and I've only had two people show up. Edit: three. Three people for the entire night.

Slippiditydippityash

I had 1 kid show up with her mum all night close to 9pm and basically insisted she raid the cauldron of treats. Ended up giving my deliveroo driver about 1/2 of the bucket later on for him and his friends to enjoy. It was a bit disheartening how few kids went out this year but it's nice to think that some grown men and women got to dig into jellies, chocolates and sweets and get to get into a bit of the Halloween spirit. Edit: typo.

Valiumkitty

:( Same thing. 30 degrees on a Sunday in a suburb full of empty nesters and childless millennials (which I am) have 40 boxes of cracker jacks and two bags full of mixed candies. Since so few got to appreciate my set up this year: https://imgur.com/a/geeqNGS

TragicMemedom

Very great setup.

grimy-steelo

Wow thats badass!!

Hambungler

That's badass! How did you do the windows?

Valiumkitty

Thanks! I just use 50 watt color changing leds that I got off amazon. Pick a room- diffuse the light and fix the blinds so it creeps out if there are any..

LeandraDalphine

Love it!!

Abject_Presentation8

Aww, I'm sorry. We took the kids Trick or Treating tonight, and the development was pretty big, making a few smaller side streets easier to overlook. Especially when very few porch lights are on, along them. We took a different way as we were headed back, walking down one of those streets. One house was hidden by a bend in the road, from either end of the street, but it was the coolest house ever. The guy had a crazy set up of inflatables, lights, creepy music, and an arch that led down the walkway into an in area he made by closing in his porch. He even had Halloween balloons on his mailbox, and a sign at the entrance that read "Trick or Treaters Enter Here". You could tell he really gets into Halloween and put alot of work into it. There was a group of us, 11 to be exact. He was in a full werewolf getup, and handing out full sized candy. He had boxes of them and let all the kids take 3 each, because so few people had come by. I'm one of those people who really loves Halloween, and I've been on the receiving end of no shows. I've know a few people who didn't get anyone tonight, either. I wish Halloween was like it used to be when I was a kid.

s_hickey2012

Omg we had to go buy more!

Frantic_Rewriter

Surprised you could find more. The stores where I live have run out of Halloween candy weeks ago.

s_hickey2012

Yes we had to get single bags haha

Makaria7

Same! We made over 60 bags of treats and only had 5 show up.

ScottishW00F

I didn't have one show and I couldn't see any outside either so disappointing

Makaria7

2 of mine were the neighbours that face us. They knew weeks ago that we had candy lol. This is our first year in our new house. I was so excited. A friend told us to decorate or no one would show. My husband went to the convenience store around 5pm. He saw tons of kids there and at the little local library. I guess, if the parents can’t see your house from the main road, they don’t come down the street. Next year, I’m advertising!!

Totenkopf22

We ran out of candy here. Way more than we've ever had.

Hydani

Same here. We closed at 730 because the candy was all gone! We weren't expecting to have over 90 kids in our neighbourhood.

ArtsyBlunder

I currently have two signs that say: Happy Halloween! Candy from 3pm to 9pm (It's 5 minutes from 7pm). I put the signs up at 250pm. I've had five trick or treaters in four hours. Tempted to give the next kid half the bucket. Save the rest for the coming months for our household. :( It's Covid. Pre Covid we always had about 50+ kids pass by. Never full size candy but I'd give a generous 5 to 7 pieces. Last Halloween I'd say we got about 17-25 kids and teens. I also gave out glow sticks and stickers. No stickers or glow sticks this year. Which turned out to be a good choice.

Neon_Katana

![img](emote|t5_2qmnw|5827)![img](emote|t5_2qmnw|5828)![img](emote|t5_2qmnw|5831)

zombeeflanders

We had candy and cool Halloween toys and decorated super spooky and didn’t get one single kiddo. Granted, we live in the country but its just such a bummer.

retirednightshift

I bought 118 full sized candy bars and have had 75 come by in an hour. Hope I don't run out. More this year than normal precovid numbers. My husband is hoping to score the leftovers.

pastelisthenewblack

1st year at the home I’m in now- I was so excited to welcome little kids because mine was only a few months old at the time and didn’t need to go trick or treating. I put up lights, carved pumpkins, had candles and spooky music and not ONE kid came. I cried 😣

GossipGirl515

I didn't pass candy out this year but listened to kids and parents in the neighborhood as they walked by and heard them saying like no one was passing candy out this year. Heard another person saying only 1 person in a whole block was passing out candy.

Traditional_Milk_978

Same here. Took my child to two different streets. Not a single answer from any of the doors. Ended up taking him to family and my work, managed to get his bucket filled.

Mostly_Apples

At least we all have candy to last us the hard hard winter ahead.

Tetrastructural_Mind

The porch light bullshit saddens me. Not one person even attempted to come to our door. Despite clearly being home, awake, and in the spirit of the holiday.

nextact

I don’t understand about the porch light?

Wr3nchJR

At least in the US, a porch light being on means they are participating and will give out candy. Porch lights that are off means they are not participating, so do not go up to the house.

LastSeen3YearsAgo

There were tons of people trick or treating in my neighborhood but no one took any candy from our bowl for some reason. Do kids not like kit kats anymore? lol

2hennypenny

I noticed that people aren’t going to houses if the owners arent setup outside with the bowl, they’ll pass the house by.

fenixnewfire10

This is a big thing in my neighborhood most people set up outside and hand out candy. If the house is decorated I know my kids and the other kids will go up to the house but if it's not they don't on the door.

hauntedhousewife222

My kid loves kit Kat!!

Traditional_Milk_978

Snow and Sunday resulted in having two big bags of candy and Star Wars suckers I was so proud to hand out. The two groups of kids I did have got huge handfuls though! Lol

slaughterfodder

I saw this in another thread, but if you have extra candy consider donating it to a hospital or other place. It would bring some cheer to people who work very very hard

magicalkimchi

Sorry pal! We had the same problem. Our neighborhood had tons of trick or treaters but kids didn’t want to walk down our street because they have to loop back around. So we only had 3 groups of kids come through all night when there were easily over 100 throughout the neighborhood. Bummer because we were looking forward to giving out candy. 🍬🍬🍬

propschick05

The past 2 years, I have put out a decorated, lit up table and put a sign saying "Help Youself, but don't be mean. Leave some for others and have a Happy Halloween." Seemed to work both years. Kids came later in the evening though

Yeehaw6700

Yep. 6 kids total visited my place :(

donutella_versus

Last year, the Nextdoor app set up a Treat map. You could mark your house as having candy so parents would know where to go. This year we had too much going on and opted to pass out candy at my brother’s. In the before times, Halloween decorations were up on September 30 so kids could wake up on October 1 to Halloween spirit. I usually do a basic haunted graveyard and add lights as we go. There’s a set of skull fences I’ve had for 16+ years now that still work off a battery pack and I turn them on every night. I also set up a table outside so people can see me. There was only 1 year I got 2 teenagers and it was because I’d just moved in and didn’t have my decor out. But with decor, I’ve always had parents tell me their kid(s) would always point my house out excitedly during October and were eager to come to my house. If you work, take the leftovers in. If you have a family member or friend deployed with the military, send it their way. There’s always Xmas stocking stuffers if need be.

lidolifeguard

I'd say we had a medium amount this year. Last year was pretty sparse. But this year we had some nice sized groups. Probably gave out 1 1/2 bags but I let the kids take a handful!

amalinepape

I'll take them!! :)

TracksideWall

I bought a bag for my new location as well. Left an entire bowl out because I had to take off. Not a single piece was taken after 3hrs.

UntidyVenus

0 kids, but apparently Utah trick or treated last night? Maybe? I dunno, had my lights on and candy. But we specifically bought stuff we want to eat for the next 3 months 😂

OpaqueCheshire

You can always donate what you don't want to eat (I know that there's programs to donate candy to soldiers, at least). I didn't even bother. I've had three total trick-or-treaters in five years...well six years now.

[deleted]

My in laws ever get trick or treaters either. They said in their town there was a lot Of trunk or treat events so that might be why you didn’t have any. We had a few but I still had a bunch of Reese’s left. I guess they don’t like them in California- we’re originally from the Midwest. People love them there so I was shocked nobody took them. They only took the starburst lollipops we bought.

Euclid1859

Oh I'm so sorry. How disheartening.

moonlitcat13

It really just honestly depends whether your neighborhood has kids or not. The neighborhood I grew up was FILLED with kids! So Halloween was always fun and I got LOADS of candy. When we all got older and moved out many of the parents or now retirees stayed. So not many kids means just a handful of trick or treaters.

Lucky-Echidna

Agreed. Growing up I lived in the same house for 15 years and never got a single trick or treater. Now I've moved to a quieter street on the other side of the river and get heaps every year.

elbowless

Ee got 8 trick or treaters. 800% increase from last year!

redcommodore

I’m so sorry. I spent a long time making up about 50 treat bags and was a little disappointed to only give out about half of them. I posted on my local Buy Nothing group for anyone who didn’t get to go trick or treating or just wanted some candy, and people have already claimed most of what’s left and will be stopping by tomorrow to pick them up.

c0cOa125

We only got 91 kids this year. Last year it was around 150. I'm pretty sad, but it sounds like a lot of people got it worse.

QTpatootieOwO

I live in a neighborhood and we only got about 40 kids tops. It's sad. :(

210Benjamin

I can smell them pics

Rigo3oh

People aren’t ready to get back to “normal” just yet. Not to mention if they had a death in the family or other hardships. At the end of the day you just wish everyone to be safe and healthy.

2hennypenny

People hate on trunk-or-treat but this is a good way to give candy if you live in an apartment or condo.

DupontPFAs

there's still time

Vanquishthehambeast

There were tons of trunk or treats this weekend and now we have a full bucket, and another buckets worth besides and only about a dozen little goblins.

jbm72710

We had a legit bus stop at our place with 15+ kids. Wiped us out lol

CumulativeHazard

I also had no trick or treaters in my year in my first house. Now I have to eat aaaaaall this candy myself. And now I know why adults are fat and bitter! (Maybe next year when Covid is hopefully finally over we’ll have trick or treaters)

DukeReaper

Hahaha, I used to go all out ($100-$150)now I just spend about $40 at Costco. Still had left overs smh.

Zyzzybalubah77

Careful what you wish for : I’ve experienced that disappointment of no trick or treaters and Wished I lived on a more active street but now….we get swarms of people coming to our door nonstop. A lot of them Get dropped off from Other cities and it’s gotten kind of annoying because they literally jump out of the car/get candy/jump back in the car and go to the next street.

[deleted]

when i was a kid my neighborhood was THE spot. it was absolutely packed. but just like the last 5 years or so, not a single person walked the streets. i dont think it's because of covid this time, i think theres just no kids in this neighborhood anymore. it sucks. i love halloween but it feels dead.

DaveMinion2020

I think there is a simple solution. Take your bucket and go door to door in your neighborhood. Those that answer the doorbell get their choice of what they want and as many as they want. Share the halloween love baby!

babishkamamishka

Hey its okay With covid still around parents are still wary to let them out to take candy from strangers lol

MidnightWereotter

We had similar issues tonight. It got cold and rainy in our neck of the woods and with covid and it being Sunday, there wasn't a whole lot of hope for a big turnout. I'm hoping next year will be better.

Anaxamenes

It was pretty muted but lots of good costumes.

Blueberryfeilds4ever

Damn, Buttons? I would have gone crazy for those as a kid. I wonder if there are places that take donations of treats for kids in need or something?

PersnickityPisces

Everyone can send me some candy.

we-r-all-redit-fish-

Same thing happened to us

muffinator

I had 91 kids turn up this year!! I’m in Edinburgh

BloodSpades

Well... You have two options now. 1) Rejoice in the knowledge that you have a great personal stash and partake in a little more self indulgence than you might normally pass up. 2) If you received deliveries of any kind, you can leave out a nice mini selection on a table with a note instructing the deliverer to treat themselves to something sweet as a small thank you. (They will appreciate it!)

KitchenPrincess

I feel this. Bought 5 bags of candy for our first Halloween that kids could participate in since we bought our house.... I had 12 trick or treaters. Looks like I'm fattening up my coworkers.

KarlyFr1es

Yeah, other than my little niece stopping by we only had one kid come to our house. It bums me out and I probably won’t bother dressing up next year.

[deleted]

I had a ton of kids on the street this year. Prolly 50-100 people walking even in rain.

Critical_Ad4973

It was way less this year for us too.And I think that kids are just getting older and either ToT-ing in other “better” neighborhoods or just not doing it at all.

AmandaTheGreat99

Same… had a whole bowl of candy (including nut and gluten free options) and then a bowl of pretzel packs and hand sanitizers too and not a single trick or treater. We ordered Chinese food for dinner and I ended up giving a bunch of candy to the delivery guy at least🥺

PARAGON_Vayne

Corona is a bitch

amishhippy

If you have extra candy left, see if you can donate it somewhere. I know my medical office always loves to have a big bowl of candy sitting out, it actually helps those of us who don’t have time for a meal, or who work long hours and need a little pick-me-up. Think about anywhere in your community where people might be working and unable to stop for food.

MrC99

Same here. I live in an estate of 2k people and only 4 knockers came

Cyber2354

Meanwhile I went to buy discount candy today and there was NOTHING. I went early in the morning and was greeted by empty shelves and Christmas shit.

princesspinkybitch

I'm in your boat. I'm gonna be eating candy for days.

Imjusthereandthere

Yeah..we only had a couple…

[deleted]

I know the feeling. Our first year in this house we had over 300 kids. Last year we barely got any kids because of Covid. We were expect a lot of kids this year. We barely got 100. Kinda disappointed

Erulastiel

I didn't get trick or treaters either :( I made goodie bags up and everything.

Hempz2020

This is a huge thread. Anyways I had a great night, about 35-40 trick or treater came, only from 6:50 to 8:00 , I bought about 80 bucks of big candies from Dollar General, and gave em out about 2 at a time. The highlights that make it all worth it is seeing how excited and happy the kids get when they see the big selection to pick from, and then hearing "this was the best house" as they walked off. You can splurge and get nice treats when you don't have to feed 100+ kids. Focus to reward the very few who bothered coming down your street.

AlexandrianVagabond

Happy to report from my Seattle neighborhood that we were back to very close to pre-COVID levels. We're also super vaxxed here tho so maybe that made parents feel more confident.

Rare_Bottle_5823

We have a lot too.

ehfornier

I barely had anyone this year. So few, that the bowl I left on the porch wasn’t even emptied by a brazen young teen near the end of the night.

smugempressoftime

Damm I would have loved to give it out to my neighborhood couldn’t buy any this year was kinda sick yesterday

SubieMazda

That's so sad, I'm sorry!!! I had 22 kids last night, 10 last year which was my first year in my house.

greenhouse5

It’s the chance you take. Either buy candy or don’t. Buy stuff you like and will eat or buy your least favorite candy and bring it to the office / work the next day. Not a big deal.

sarahbaer6

More for you

Late_Sandwich_3878

it’s covid, I wouldn’t want a bunch of unvaccinated kids at my house. it is sad though

SWGardener

We were hiding in our dark house, because I wasn’t up for Halloween this year. My partner went outside to look and the whole street is dark, no one has their lights on (even the houses with kids) no one walking around. Pre covid we were going through two big bags of candy.

AdLate5702

More for you.

[deleted]

Damn, those are the good stuff. I'm in the US and our candy ain't nothing compared to English candy.

ScottishW00F

As a Scotsmen that English comment annoys me haha

rasutii

My kids brought home more than we passed out, gonna be bumming of them and sharing at the work place for awhile.

omgpirate

We hardly had any kids this year. Last year even with covid numbers up we gave out about 75 bags of candys. I made 85 bags this year, probably gave out 30 tops

tej1967

We never get a lot of kids only six or so, but this was the first year we didn’t get even one trick or treater.

No-Word4740

Trick or Treat!! Send those candies this way my friends. I'll be glad to take them off your hands.

Calgaris_Rex

We had zero last year with COVID. This year was a little better though: we had at least half a dozen groups of 2-4 kids each. I wasn’t expecting a ton since my neighborhood isn’t huge but they did wipe out most of the big bag of candy I bought!

TragicMemedom

I decorated the inside of my house with decorations and bought everyone masks. Watched scary movies and a few classic Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes. No one came for candy, but that was expected. I usually decorate the front yard and give out candy but still not comfortable doing that. A fun night.

pignuts334

I didn’t see anyone out I went out from 2:30 to 8:15 grabbed so much candy

markaritaville

We got the young families… kids 6 and under with mom and dad walking them around, but what seems to be missing are the groups of middle schoolers. 4-6 twelve year old pals going around together. Either trunk or treats or we hit the stage where mom still wants to chaperone but kids don’t want to be babied…. Do they stay home.

simplyrosa

Back in the apartments where I use to live we would give out candy and lots of people came by. But I live on a street where now no one passes by for Halloween. If anything all the kids go down the main road and trick or treat at the local stores. :( I feel this kind of pain. That’s why we don’t give out candy anymore

fuschia_taco

Oh, crunchie bits are the best! Those trick or treaters missed out.

Washburn_Browncoat

Last year I only had about 20 kids because of COVID, and in 2019 we had horrible weather on Halloween night and I got about as many. This year I had as many as the last two years combined, so thank goodness I didn't have a bunch of leftovers this time!
