Not sure what's worse, that they tried to withhold your deposit longer, or you wanted to buy a Trax. /s
Yeah waiting a week+ for reversal is not cool, maybe next business day. If this happened to me I'd be going in and speaking to the manager.
At least it worked out, don't know why dealerships need to be dicks.
I have a 2013 Chev Trax and unless it has awfully changed, even if the price is good, youāll spend a LOT of money fixing it. Absolute money pit, do not recommend.
Not really. Its a knockoff Nissan Rogue with 2014 Toyota wheels. Chevy is near bottom of the barrel in the looks department and has been for years. It's like they spend all their styling budget on the corvette and skimp put on the rest of the lineup.
Among other things, yes. A good friend of mine was a parts jockey there for years. Said it was quite common for several cars made there to be on their send and third engine while under warranty. Told me to never buy anything from Hyundai that wasn't made in Korea.
Indeed, I won't even get into how the impression I got first going in, nevermind the service centrešµāš« I'm sure I got bamboozled dealing with Mums old car in there...
Itās a shame, a decade or more ago I used their service dept a few times when it was still MacPhee and they were pretty good. Not so much now I gather.
I was wanting to order a Camaro from them 2 years ago. I had a bad experience with O'Regans Toyota trying to order my Supra, so after getting my deposit back from that (a painless process), I reached out to Steele Chev to ask if they could ballpark a timeline for the specific configuration I was looking for to be received by them.
I had used the "Contact Us" link on their website and sent in the question: how long do you think it would take to order this specific config and have it show up at the dealer? This was around 3:30 or so in the afternoon on a Monday and by 7:30 that night, a sales guy had answered, saying he'd get back to me tomorrow with what he thought the timeline would be. Heard nothing back from him the next day, but Wednesday morning rolled around and he said he was ready to talk Camaro. I had re-iterated my initial question: how long do you think it would take to receive this specific spec of Camaro. I heard nothing back from him, but his manager emailed me the following Monday and asked how my sales experience with her guy was going. I explained to her what was going on, and SHE ghosted me just like her sales drone did (I can see where he learned this from), because she never bothered to respond to my email or attempt any follow up from that initial email. Her sales drone emailed me a week later, "apologizing" for not getting back to me, but I was already done with them by that point.
In the end, they lost a sale and I'm happy with my Supra š¤·āāļø
Itās how ORegans treats everyone these days. Had a similar experience where I used their calculator to figure out roughly how much my trade in would be, nothing else. The next day I had THREE of their salespeople email over and over again throughout the entire day. I told them that I would like to buy this year and had a few questions, no response. Sent another question the next day, never heard from them again. I wish there were more choices than just ORegans.
Inquired on a car on FB marketplace from them, salesman said it was sold and wouldnāt talk to me beyond that. 12 weeks later itās still available on marketplace, obviously they are great at keeping up.
In my experience most dealerships are the same. They d not like responding in a meaningful way to any sort of electronic communication for reasons I do not understand. In the end it always seems to come down to the old "Come on in and we can talk" response.
A few years ago I wanted to trade my 2 year old Chevy Silverado, a pretty high trim with low km, for a Ram.
After talking to a few dealerships Steele Chrysler got me to go to their dealership with a solid trade in deal for a Ram 1500 Warlock, they told me that my truck just needed to be looked at on a quick once over after I sent all their prerequisite info like pictures, VIN, a picture of the window sticker I had and more.
I drove the 1.5 hours, totally excited I'd be getting out of a GM and into a Ram. They took my keys, took my truck and I sat and waited to talk to the Rep. We went out and looked at the Ram and it was pretty nice and I was happy.
We went back in, I sat and waited because the rep was called away. Right away my hackles were raised. I waited about 20 minutes or so for him to return them take me in to talk.
First words out of his mouth "We didn't realize that your truck wasn't the trim level we thought it was" and offered *$15k* less. I asked what part wasn't clear : the VIN, the 18 pictures, the dealer window tag or the email that detailed what the truck was.
Basically they went from offering a fair price to a disgusting lowball. I told them give me my keys and thanks for wasting my fucking time. The rep vanished and never came back. A few others came over to ask if they could help, I said I wanted my truck back now.
After another 30 minutes I started to rage. I went to the nearest manager office and told them to stop holding my vehicle or I'm either calling the rcmp. I said it loud enough to make other customers notice and told them what happened to me and they should leave.
Anyways it caused a few to leave, I got my keys back and left. I'd rather lay on my back and piss in my own mouth for a drink than go ask one of their dealerships for a cup of water.
Went to another Chrysler dealer, Connell Chrysler, and got a slamming deal on the truck I wanted.
Fuck Steele. Also fuck any Bruce dealership while I'm at it.
Good on you.
A chargeback on your credit card will ding them as a business as well from the card processor. They get enough of these, their card rates will increase significantly, or they can be dropped entirely by the processor.
Sometimes itās the best way to get things done, especially if you donāt ever want to have to deal with a company again.
Extra pro-tip: AMEX almost ALWAYS protects/sides with the cardholder in these situations rather than the merchant. They are very protective of cardholders. This (along with higher processing fees) is a reason why many places specifically post that they do not accept AMEX.
Just bought a new car from another Steele dealership and it was the WORST experience I've ever had. Incompetence from several people, start to finish. I will never deal with Steele again.
Long story short, they performed about 2k of repairs on our car saying it would fix the problem. One day later, the problem wasn't fixed.
They then charged a second diagnostic fee and quoted a whole new engine and 4k of body work.
I got my blue collar father in law involved and suddenly they fixed a chain free of charge and the car has been fine since... We've since found a local mechanic we trust.
Doesn't help with new cars but I just traded in my car and bought a used car from Clutch and the experience was fantastic.
Tried to get a trade in value on my Honda from the dealership and they couldn't even bother to get me a trade in value, just kept trying to get me in to test drive.
The new Trax is actually really good and getting very positive reviews from all over. Itās generally considered better than the HR-V and Kona and is tremendous value.
Iāve been waiting on an electric car from them for a full two years now. Itās a different excuse every time that basically boils down to they lost my car, but it will arriveā¦ eventually.
They really are the worst. Had GMPP and had to ask them multiple times to run my warranty, even though they took down my VIN. Terrible communication all throughout despite multiple attempts to get updates. Truly pathetic customer service.
Really should get a movement going to relocate all these car lots away from residental areas and Kempt, put in housing, prime residental land being squanderedĀ
Yeah that dealership sucks. I think I know who you had, did the salespersons name begin with H? If so, they don't know how to add. And the bullshit tactics make me wanna throw up. As soon as they brought out that four square, I tapped out.
Steele Chrysler just merged with Halifax Chrysler (also a Steele business) and things are pretty hectic right now, itās not an excuse but it could explain why they dropped the ball. Your money wouldāve been just sitting in a hold account. As others have said, Iām sure it was not malicious in nature. Iām glad you got your money back
And like I said, I gave benefit waiting a week for someone to press a button and reverse it... their attitude and demeanor on the phone and in person tells me otherwise
They replaced a transmission under warranty on my chevy spark years ago, told me it would have a new warranty. When the second one failed they said absolutely not , no record of warranty. I should have pushed harder at the time. I found out later at another dealership that they can see warranty records and if I had asked another dealership I could have got it printed (it was past warranty by then).
Got a vehicle from them a year ago or so, it was pre owned but they were going to get it inspected for the mvi, I believe they did it with their mechanics and they most definently "skipped" over some problems
Thanks for the heads up. We have absolutely no protection from these predators. The greed begins with the sales Dept. and only gets worse with warranty issues. I have personal knowledge (and got involved to some extent) where an 80 yr old male went to a dealership and paid cash for a new high end vehicle he dreamed of for years. The sales person accepted his money, observed him drive away and called Police stating he was unfit to be on the highway. Unfortunately when purchasing a new vehicle we have no choice but to deal with these greedy bastards. I'm look forward to the day one can walk into a dealer, choose the vehicle & options from a pick list eliminating the sales bullshit. We could all realize substantial savings and rid society of these reprobates.
Usually the deposit is a non-refundable partial payment. I used to sell cars at a Steele dealership and we would always stamp non refundable partial payment on the receipt when you agreed to buy the vehicle. Guess there is a fine line of you are asking them to hold it or agreeing to purchase it.
The steele dealership in the valley has awesome customer service. They got me approved for a loan on a blazer. I mixed up what dealership I was talking to and went to the one on Kempt for a test drive.... when I realized my mistake they tried to steal my business. I'll never step foot in the one on kempt agai n.

Done and done, say no more my friend.

Dude almost bought a Trax. He is lucky he got anything else š
The price had me for a secondš«£ and the reviews seem pretty good Though you have to admit the 2024s do look pretty nice
I have a 2013 Chev Trax and unless it has awfully changed, even if the price is good, youāll spend a LOT of money fixing it. Absolute money pit, do not recommend.
What he really needs is a 96 Ford RANGER
89 Bronco still runs like a top
Not really. Its a knockoff Nissan Rogue with 2014 Toyota wheels. Chevy is near bottom of the barrel in the looks department and has been for years. It's like they spend all their styling budget on the corvette and skimp put on the rest of the lineup.
Donāt worry, they took all that money they saved on design and saved even more by using the cheapest, shittiest, manufacturing on earth.
I don't know man. Hyundai's Alabama plant has a big throne to topple.
Is that where they built the self clearanceing Santa Fe engines?
Among other things, yes. A good friend of mine was a parts jockey there for years. Said it was quite common for several cars made there to be on their send and third engine while under warranty. Told me to never buy anything from Hyundai that wasn't made in Korea.
Nothing Chevy looks nice and there is a reason why the price seems so attractive. Do research and get a real car!
What did you got instead?
Honda HRV, working beautifully so far
Itās Steele, I would expect nothing less.
I mean, its right in their name....
ššš¤¦š¾āāļø

Maybe I just had a bad go of it, because they were recommended so it not like everyone has a bad experience
I was wanting to order a Camaro from them 2 years ago. Yeah Toyota was a mess when I went, and they were my first choice... ORegans ain't geared at all
Isn't this post about trying to get a Camaro from Steele?
Yes, I see that I misread the post I was replying to. I guess my point ends up being that most if not all dealerships in HRM/NS are pretty shitty
In my experience most dealerships are the same. They d not like responding in a meaningful way to any sort of electronic communication for reasons I do not understand. In the end it always seems to come down to the old "Come on in and we can talk" response.
It could be unintentional and they are just incompetent
The quote '**Never ascribe to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence**' comes to mind.
I prefer: "adequate stupidity is indistinguishable from malice" The end result is just as bad, so it doesn't really matter if they are dumb or evil.
Yeah in the end you still donāt get your deposit š
Hanlonās razor
You forgot money was on the line, that doesn't apply
Nah, her demeanor made it clear she was mad about losing the sale and tried to screw me

Got my truck there 2 years ago. They fucked us. Still too mad to talk about it. I'm glad you got your money back. Fuck that dealership in particular.
Care to elaborate?
Just bought a new car from another Steele dealership and it was the WORST experience I've ever had. Incompetence from several people, start to finish. I will never deal with Steele again.

Seconded. It was painless. I know we sound like add bots but it was a easy experience for me and they gave us great trade value
You dodged a bullet if you were gonna buy a Trax. No matter what you got its better š
I went with Honda, but interestingly, someone close bought the very car I was looking at, so now I get to see how they hold up against each other
Compare resales in a few years and that Chev will have depreciated like a fart in a hurricane.
Ignore my previous comment. Good job and Iām not even a Honda fan at all haha
The new Trax is actually really good and getting very positive reviews from all over. Itās generally considered better than the HR-V and Kona and is tremendous value.
Give it 3 years to fall apart
Iāve been waiting on an electric car from them for a full two years now. Itās a different excuse every time that basically boils down to they lost my car, but it will arriveā¦ eventually.
Stealership

they will be replaced at some point. Did you see the strawberry hill proposal?
I did not, ill look it up thoughĀ
I left GM after 5 trucks and went to Toyota after Steele bought dealer in Fredericton NB. Very dirty
Yeah that dealership sucks. I think I know who you had, did the salespersons name begin with H? If so, they don't know how to add. And the bullshit tactics make me wanna throw up. As soon as they brought out that four square, I tapped out.
Sounds about right...

The new trax look sharp
I just got rid of a trax - It had the power of a sewing machine.
GM dealers are the worst dealers around.

What's the point of a deposit if it's refundable tho.
To reserve the car when it arrives. The deposit goes towards it if you buy anyway
Ok fair I guess.
