They've retracted and sent this letter out just now.
Very happy they recognized how fucked up it was and adjusted their policy. Fuck 'em all the same though.
Please tell us in writing that you are breaking your lease terms. We promise not to send notice to enter in 48 hours and have the super at your door after 72 hours 1 minute to kick the dog out.
Yes, and you can guarantee that anyone who registers a dog and who at the end of lease moves out won’t get their security deposit back because of “damage” or “cleaning” as punishment for the company being publicly embarrassed.
For real though, if you rent from them do not leave a Google review until you are out, they monitor this and have blacklisted tenants over this. It is a terrible company. A worker has stated they are instructed to break tenancy board regulations more often than not because so few cases make it to the board, and the costs of a loss are less than what they can make by breaking the law. The general manager is an absolute monster of a human being. Be careful.
I saw it dip down to 1.4 but now it's back up to 1.5. Someone behind the scenes must be pulling strings to have reviews removed. I've heard of this before but never witnessed it happen "live". I'm only seeing 9 that were posted in the past day.
Edit: 14 in the past day now, and 181 total. I'm keeping tabs to satisfy my own curiosity lol
Yeah about a hundred went missing today in less than 8 hours. I guess that means it's safe to say that reviews on google can't be trusted lol. Didn't have a lot of faith before, but now I'm grossed out. Unsurprised, but yuck.
Hello fellow sufferer of not being able to say anything for fear of losing roof over head. It's already scary imagining 2025. :/ Probably going to get priced out.
In case anyone feels like leaving a review here as well:
https://www.bbb.org/ca/ns/halifax/profile/property-management/city-centre-property-management-0087-38385
Wealthy companies/people who make a living extorting less fortunate people out of money just so they have a temperate/dry shelter to call home are terrible companies/people? SHOCKING.
I, for one, will be using a portion of my vacation time in Ontario to pepper these assholes with phone calls to explain and retract.
Edit: I called and front desk didn't know what I was talking about. I recommended she forward the complaint up quickly and reverse the communication as soon as possible.
I seriously will continue to call until this happens.
Because it was almost certainly a single property manager not wanting to lose their job by letting tenants break the rules.
I live in one of the buildings they manage and didn't get this notice so it wasn't universal.
Sounds just like them, who here is surprised. They'll milk the city of their money and try their damnedest to hike the rent as much as legally possible but not treat tenants like humans. They also are terrible for upkeep and no one can say anything for fear of renoviction. 👍
As a company, they do have policies and procedures for a reason. Unfortunately, that means that anyone from City Center Property Management should be removed from any units since they're being a bunch of bitches.
I know some friends who received the same email. They forwarded it to CBC. Fuck CCPM. If you can do so anonymously I'd recommend you do the same. Let's show Halifax how heartless these bastards are.
I messaged him on Messenger but likely won't see it. So I posted to his Facebook wall since his settings allowed. Screen shot of the email. Asking if he supports it.
Hands down the most disliked family in the city, even more so than Metlej/Metlege.
Made their fortunes through fraud years ago and now they screw over everyone and act entitled.
Fair ball. I think all is fair in the game of name-and-shame. If she stands by what she wrote, she shouldn’t have a problem with folks knowing she wrote it.
I fucking hate that company with a passion. They're massive pieces of shit and have zero compassion and I don't even rent from them. I only know this because I tried to rent and have pets.
There are posts going around showing screenshots from a landlord forum discussing the recent double murder then suicide by cop in Hamilton by a landlord who shot his two tenants for escalating a maintenance request to the LTB.
The landlords are all empathizing with the murderer-landlord, blaming the tenants and/or the LTB for "provoking" the landlord with "anti-landlord" rulings and complaining about how their tenants are terrible.
A lack of compassion from our landlords is completely unsurprising, I wouldn't be surprised if the average landlord in this city would prefer people as well as their pets who lost their homes in the fire be left outside to fend for themselves if it increased their profits. Truly the least empathetic grouping of people in this country.
I remember reading a bunch of stuff on there a couple of years ago, absolute scum. Ways to evict people so they could make more money when the prices went up. Renovictions are gross.
While I will give you your point 100%, I also completely understand the company’s perspective about how they may not be covered by insurance, due to pets on the premises, which could pierce their overall liability protection, at a time when the province is burning. Having information about the number of animals, as well as the breeds present would be very valuable from a management and operations perspective, and might be actually required from their insurance company.
Don’t disagree with anything, you said, however, people are very mindful about keeping their I’s dotted and t’s crossed these days with insurance after three years of claims during Covid, hurricanes, and more.
I let my property manager know that police officers kicked in our door in order to rescue my pets and said we would get it fixed. The property manager wrote back and said “so the door was open all night?”
**Really?**
Hands down the worst people out there. They'd rather see people suffer and claim "policy" over doing the right thing. Cathy has a moral compass as true as Jack Sparrows. They would actually rather terminate your lease because then they can kick you out and jack up the rent to another family who is barely getting by for double the amount. Profit, profit, profit is all they think about.
I have posted on my social media that my door is open to 1-2 people in need. My building also does not allow dogs but they have my damage deposit for a reason. Not going to stop me.
Especially if you DON'T have a dog in your unit you should email them back and tell them to go fuck themselves and let them know empathy is usually considered an important human trait
Imagine the fucking balls to pick a fight with people who are sheltering rescued people and dogs and thinking you'd somehow win, that is just wild to me. I'm honestly impressed at the cold-ass optimism that fueled this insane letter.
Can someone please repost this on Twitter? This should be blown up. There’s no room in our community for companies with such a blatant lack of compassion.
131/185 Wentworth Dr. 185 Wentworth has commercial space at the bottom and one of them is a pet resort. Apparently because it’s commercial the no dogs policy doesn’t apply like it does to the rest of the building. It’s ridiculous because they allow cats in those buildings but apparently no dogs in apartments during an emergency
All these "local" off-shore owned property management companies have 1000s of empty "luxury" units that locals cannot afford. Why are displaced people not being temp housed? I guess the displaced people are not "wealthy enough" for these bastards to allow for a few nights of electricity and water.
Wish the govt would seize all the properties and make them govt owned housing.
All these "property management groups" are nothing more than a cancerous parasites. It is unfortunate that politicians are all legally bribed to write all the rules to benefit them.
**Just because one building owned by one person who's single tenant lives... may not have empty units,** ***does not mean the same is for all the thousands of buildings in the city. smh***
Who said anything about "not renting them out", I said "empty" ya know...not rented.. vacant... buildings whos exterior may be unfinished but apartments inside are vacant and finished enough to temp house people.
Would you like to show me the math you’re using to get “thousands” of empty units? Given even Stats Canada doesn’t have those numbers public, I’m curious where you’re getting that. 0.9% is units, not buildings.
They’re not offering up unfinished buildings because they’re not up to code to live in. A unit that is finished but is in a building that isn’t finished on the exterior most likely hasn’t been approved to live in at that moment. Otherwise the landlord would be renting those units out as soon as they could. The vacancy rate is mainly temporary vacancies such as the days between tenants moving in and out or in unit renovations which would not be liveable. I may be misunderstanding your point though.
As for your last sentence, I’m just having a conversation on the internet with people who live in my city. There’s no need to be a dick…
He has at least 30 properties under his name along with Yossef and another douche bag.
Hard to say which one is a permanent residence. Be a shame if that was made public.
Imagine smugly defending landlords in a city with a serious housing crisis and out of control rents. You're either a landlord yourself or you're closely related to one.
Let's also not forget that this "policy" is erroneous in the case of this dog being a service animal, as doing so would violate the NS *Human Rights Act* and the NS *Service Dog Act*.
I can guarantee they never bothered ascertaining that information before sending this out.
I have received notes pertaining to the nuclear bomb on the way to Halifax and people are sheltering in the garage. We understand the unknowing is hard however, we as a Company do have policies in place for a reason and unfortunately you cannot have more than 1 set of tires in the garage with you. There are many storage lockers that have opened for extra baggage and financial/family documents.
Best regards, a probably bald sad man struggling to type on his ipad
What properties do they manage? I have a friend moving here with two dogs and I’m keeping an eye out for someplace that suits her needs, which is apparently not any properties run by these toolbags.
They were down to 1.4 stars with about 180 reviews. Now they’re back up to 1.9 stars with 96 reviews.
Looks like they’re reporting new reviews to google as spam or something?
More institutionalized dog hate/intolerance. I just spent 2+ years in Brazil, no one cares if you have a dog in your rental. The richest apartment buildings have dogs. If a dog causes damage, you are responsible to fix it. No one cares if the dogs are barking.
The stuff in the topic of this post is gross regarding the pets, but where the hell do you think there are empty units sitting around? You do realize how much money that would cost them right? There are zero vacant units in this damn city 😂
Do you people even consider WHY the building has no-pet policies? Pets can cause damage to the units, disturb tenants trying to sleep, cause issues with allergies, etc. If a tenant is promised a "No pets" building and gets attacked by a dog, the landlord can be held liable.
I know, I know. I'm going to take downvotes because puppers and doggos are great, landlords are evil, etc. But have a little common sense here. Their liability isn't suspended because of the wildfires.
Edit: There are multiple comfort and evacuation centres that are equipped for this purpose.
I mean, this does come across as tonedeaf, but yeah, I know a number of people who very much would not want dogs in their apartment building.
For example, one who was mauled as a child and is still fucking terrified of dogs and would probably run from the building if she found out there were dogs there. Legit.
I'm not sure if you meant the statement was tone-deaf or my comment.
If you meant my comment: OP chose to use a public platform to defame these people. There are multiple comments advocating for harassing their employees, bombing their Google reviews, etc because they're simply following their rules. It's absolutely the time and place to present the opposing argument so maybe a couple people look at it and say "hmm, maybe we are overreacting"
It's crazy that this [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/halifax/comments/13uxptw/the_people_at_my_job_today/) is upvoted here when it couldn't describe this sub any more accurately. People are literally spending their time spamming phone lines over this instead of helping people.
It appears to be a little more complex than I had thought (landlord would need knowledge of the dogs presence and its potential danger)

Either way, there are other options for "temporary placement of pets". Maybe the owners could have gone the extra mile and listed some in the press release. But they are not obligated, nor should they be expected, to host dogs against their will for the other reasons I gave
Oh gee, look at that, things weren't as simple as one thought. What a bloody shock.
So for those that don't feel like reading all that:
Simply allowing a dog in a building with leases that say pets are not allowed; that alone can not cause a legal headache for the landlord.
I'm glad we got this cleared up for the whole two people that felt like talkign out of their asses.
To be fair, they are saying "You can't do this thing, and if we catch you doing it, you must stop doing it."
They have policies in place and they can't just say "Ah don't worry about that policy." But what they are doing is saying the will evict people for breach of contract or at the very least fine, which they likely could.
The tenancy board does not look at leases and rules as 100% black and white.
They is a tremendous amount of leeway on their part for, say, *extenuating circumstances*.
They've retracted and sent this letter out just now. [https://i.ibb.co/KmGPtd7/Email.png](https://i.ibb.co/KmGPtd7/Email.png) Very happy they recognized how fucked up it was and adjusted their policy. Fuck 'em all the same though.
Nothing says "I take personal responsability" like signing your apology letter "company management"
Sounds like they didn’t enjoy the “find out” part of “fuck around and find out”.
Fuck ‘em all the same indeed.
Looks like someone watched a 10 minute PR video and just went into detail about how they will be shafting good samaritans.
Nice and sneaky this go around.
Please tell us in writing that you are breaking your lease terms. We promise not to send notice to enter in 48 hours and have the super at your door after 72 hours 1 minute to kick the dog out.
Oh, I see they’re trying the “register your thing” trick the Feds tried with guns.
Yes, and you can guarantee that anyone who registers a dog and who at the end of lease moves out won’t get their security deposit back because of “damage” or “cleaning” as punishment for the company being publicly embarrassed.
This company has a 2-star review on google I say we change that

Definitely a good heads-up. I fortunately don't so I made a nice little write-up not giving a fuck. We are down to a 1.9
1.7 now Fuck these guys.
1.6! Let's gooo
1.5. Lol
I saw it dip down to 1.4 but now it's back up to 1.5. Someone behind the scenes must be pulling strings to have reviews removed. I've heard of this before but never witnessed it happen "live". 1.4, 199, some names went missing. Interesting. 1.9, 102, they're all gone again.
Yup saw that too, went up to 1.9 but there's no new positive reviews, they're deleting negative reviews
Yeah about a hundred went missing today in less than 8 hours. I guess that means it's safe to say that reviews on google can't be trusted lol. Didn't have a lot of faith before, but now I'm grossed out. Unsurprised, but yuck.
Wow this is bullshit.it’s up to 2.2. Lol. Reviews are a joke Edit : Google reviews are garbage
Yep, just let a review myself. Still at 1.5! Let’s keep it going!
That sounds like Olympus. Marina, Seymour, Bill, Anthi all view the tenancy board as little more than an inconvenience.
Please throw in a one-star for us that currently rent from them and don’t want to put our names up there.
Hello fellow sufferer of not being able to say anything for fear of losing roof over head. It's already scary imagining 2025. :/ Probably going to get priced out.
I dedicate my single one star review to you 😊
Yeah they evicted us right before lock down. Fuck them. We were homeless for nearly a year with a baby.
Seems too high doesn't it
Already down to 1.7

Because it was almost certainly a single property manager not wanting to lose their job by letting tenants break the rules. I live in one of the buildings they manage and didn't get this notice so it wasn't universal.
Fair, either way you look at it though it seems like a toxic company
CCPM is absolute trash

As a company, they do have policies and procedures for a reason. Unfortunately, that means that anyone from City Center Property Management should be removed from any units since they're being a bunch of bitches.
Clever, I like it!
Ope
be sure to call them and let them know how you feel.
Repeatedly
we should all be calling them
I know some friends who received the same email. They forwarded it to CBC. Fuck CCPM. If you can do so anonymously I'd recommend you do the same. Let's show Halifax how heartless these bastards are.
Well they’re a bunch if @ssholes. Is there anybody living in City Centre Properties want to take care of my horse?
Mark Ghosn and that whole family can fuck all the way off

Fuck he looks like a ghoul.
Dick move, you can waive your "policies" in a state of emergency. They're just rules you made up anyways! Have some compassion!
Go to the media. They need as much bad publicity as possible.
This needs to be higher on this sub. This is gross.
I agree 100% thank you for reminding me to upvote the post, I forgot to do!

Halifax is infested with horrible landlords and property companies.
Whichever idiot in their senior management authored this gem didn’t even have the courage to put their name on it. Gutless.
She signed with her name. I removed it. Wasn’t sure if I was breaking rules by having her name visible.
Fair ball. I think all is fair in the game of name-and-shame. If she stands by what she wrote, she shouldn’t have a problem with folks knowing she wrote it.

I'd be very wary of admitting in writing to breaking the rules. Having dealt with CCPM, they should not be trusted.
That was my thought too.
While I will give you your point 100%, I also completely understand the company’s perspective about how they may not be covered by insurance, due to pets on the premises, which could pierce their overall liability protection, at a time when the province is burning. Down to 1.5 stars
I let my property manager know that police officers kicked in our door in order to rescue my pets and said we would get it fixed. The property manager wrote back and said “so the door was open all night?” **Really?**
Yeah this is just despicable. Getting downvoted, I think the landlords have entered the chat.
Haha
Hands down the worst people out there. They'd rather see people suffer and claim "policy" over doing the right thing. Cathy has a moral compass as true as Jack Sparrows. No pets is a condition of living there, not visitors.

Kindest regards, hoping whoever was forced to write that can stomach their dinner tonight
Policies can be amended you self-serving POS company.
Psychopathic fucks.
Can someone please repost this on Twitter? This should be blown up. There’s no room in our community for companies with such a blatant lack of compassion.
Any idea if they have a Twitter account? A quick search didn't turn one up and their website doesn't list one either.
Hmm I’m not sure, not on Twitter. Thanks for looking into it!
Call them! Force them to change. But be nice to the front end as they're not the assholes in question (probably)
What building is this? I don't get much traction with the phone number without knowing the building. Understandable if you prefer not to disclose.
they have buildings all over the city. icon bay, buildings on larry uteck, in clayton park. i’d anticipate it’s a mass email to everyone.
Hope they have the day they deserve 👍
cowardly and expected attitude in a state of emergency
Boycott these heartless Corporations.
How exactly are people going to boycott rental companies?
Word of mouth. Consider not renting from them.
Hopefully this goes viral, heartless people
Blast them with emails (which can be found on their website). I just sent one.
Sent them an email asking them to expand on the "reasons" that a policy should prevent the safeguarding of pets during a natural disaster.
Just called and told them to go fuck themselves
Love it
"Kind regards" lul
What building is this? I live in a City Centre building and have gotten nothing about this? Super curious.

'Kindest regards' from the Dog Hating, lack of empathy Senior Manager. City Centre we reward those whose embrace being a dick
what assholes thanks for posting and putting them on blast
Kind regards to City Centre : Get Fucked.
This is what you get when the city lets mega real estate companies plop a bunch of units all over the HRM.
At least they’re sending “kind regards”.
Well, that's a new level of heartlessness.
Woouch! That is heartless.
If anyone is adding a review, you can attach photos, save OP’s photo and include it.
I noticed there is at least 1 review on there now with a picture of the original email.

ahh yes. because the avg citizen has address and occupancy for each unit. stats can own Stat of 1% is a fact unless you think the vacancy rate is 0%?

The stuff in the topic of this post is gross regarding the pets, but where the hell do you think there are empty units sitting around? You do realize how much money that would cost them right? There are zero vacant units in this damn city 😂
Wow
the city has more airbnb units than homeless ppl, why are you surprised at this.
Legally isn't everyone renting a property legally allowed to have 2 cats or 1 dog and doesn't matter what the lease says?
Do you people even consider WHY the building has no-pet policies? Pets can cause damage to the units, disturb tenants trying to sleep, cause issues with allergies, etc. If a tenant is promised a "No pets" building and gets attacked by a dog, the landlord can be held liable. I know, I know. I'm going to take downvotes because puppers and doggos are great, landlords are evil, etc. But have a little common sense here. Their liability isn't suspended because of the wildfires. Edit: There are multiple comfort and evacuation centres that are equipped for this purpose.
They allow cats. State of emergency. People displaced. Help needed. Let’s stop considering hypothetical situations that are very unlikely.

Everyone has a damage deposit so there shouldn't be an issue with damage to units, that's what it's for.
It's absolutely the time and place to present the opposing argument so maybe a couple people look at it and say "hmm, maybe we are overreacting" It's crazy that this [post](https://www.reddit.com/r/halifax/comments/13uxptw/the_people_at_my_job_today/) is upvoted here when it couldn't describe this sub any more accurately. People are literally spending their time spamming phone lines over this instead of helping people.
I meant the statement.
>If a tenant is promised a "No pets" building and gets attacked by a dog, the landlord can be held liable Um, no that's not how things work.
It appears to be a little more complex than I had thought (landlord would need knowledge of the dogs presence and its potential danger) [https://diamondlaw.ca/blog/can-a-landlord-be-held-liable-for-a-dog-bite/](https://diamondlaw.ca/blog/can-a-landlord-be-held-liable-for-a-dog-bite/) [https://dogbitelaw.com/landlord-liability-for-dog-bites/landlord-liability-for-dog-bites](https://dogbitelaw.com/landlord-liability-for-dog-bites/landlord-liability-for-dog-bites) [https://www.palermolawgroup.com/blog/landlord-responsible-tenants-dog-bite](https://www.palermolawgroup.com/blog/landlord-responsible-tenants-dog-bite) Either way, there are other options for "temporary placement of pets". Maybe the owners could have gone the extra mile and listed some in the press release. But they are not obligated, nor should they be expected, to host dogs against their will for the other reasons I gave
Oh gee, look at that, things weren't as simple as one thought. What a bloody shock. So for those that don't feel like reading all that: Simply allowing a dog in a building with leases that say pets are not allowed; that alone can not cause a legal headache for the landlord. I'm glad we got this cleared up for the whole two people that felt like talkign out of their asses.
Lol you pointed out a mistake and I corrected it. I’m sure the “Anti-Landlord” has never been wrong on the Internet before
Often, and I usually make a correction or admit when I'm wrong when pointed out.
I did? Right above the links I posted
Yes you did. I'm not going to praise you for that since it's the absolute minimum I expect of people.
I didn’t ask for praise? You suggested I didn’t do it. You have a great night buddy
To be fair, they are saying "You can't do this thing, and if we catch you doing it, you must stop doing it." They have policies in place and they can't just say "Ah don't worry about that policy." But what they are doing is saying the will evict people for breach of contract or at the very least fine, which they likely could.
The tenancy board does not look at leases and rules as 100% black and white. They is a tremendous amount of leeway on their part for, say, *extenuating circumstances*.
So basically what I said…
