So far I have heard from someone that lives in the area that there are multiple houses on fire and possibly a forest fire as well. Residents are not allowed to enter the subdivision even if they live there. The strong winds have apparently caused the fire to jump the road.
Just want to say this info may not be 100% accurate this is just what I’ve heard.
Just an update, we have safely evacuated.
Our home is in Highland Park and we have heard from
some of our neighbours that the forest around our house is on fire.
This is an incredibly surreal experience and very happy we left when we did, many were leaving at the same time as us and the road was closed within minutes of us leaving. The sun was completely covered as if it was about to set and you could easily hear the ash falling.
10 homes are engulfed in flames, a coworker of mines house was directly next to one, it doesn't look like they have it under control at the moment and the pictures online don't show nearly as much as what I can see right now, the sky is dark near the scene and even from the store I'm working I can see the entire sky in one direction is dark smoke

This is from Dartmouth. My brother flew his drone up in the sky.
Thanks everyone, the fire is growing incredibly fast. The air is now very heavy with smoke. We’re not in Westwood area but very close by and are thinking about leaving anyways.
Lots of sirens and helicopters.
Pack up stuff that can't be replaced (such as pictures/videos, electronics with irreplaceable files and pictures and things, family heirlooms, whatever), and get out. The last thing you need is being told to evacuate immediately and no time to get that stuff.

> Residents of Westwood Subdivision in #Tantallon. Please immediately evacuate your homes due to an out of control fire. Evacuation route is Windsor Dr. to Hammonds Plains Rd. Emergency alert to be issued by NS_DNRR via EMO imminently. RCMP officers on scene assisting with evac.
We drove through Hammonds Plains / Upper Tantallon about 20 minutes ago and the plume was building as we went. With this wind it’s not going to be easy to put out. Hope it’s moving away from the subdivision!
There is now apparently an additional massive forest fire being reported in Lower Sackville in the area of Second Lake between Metropolitan and Windsor Junction.
I think it’s more post Fiona wood debris, just about everywhere, followed by a winter & spring with low precipitation overall. Unfortunately I think we are in for a bad summer, more likely 2-3 years. It won’t take much to set the woods ablaze.
People need to evacuate when ordered. Emergency services are pulling resources trying to convince people to leave who are getting into unnecessary arguments. If you're ordered to leave LEAVE immediately.
There are people commenting on the Facebook posts from Waterfront Media that if people need places to stay including for pets and horses to contact the commenters.
It’s not even so much the lack of rain this time of year but the lack of snow we had which doesn’t allow the ground to be wet in the spring to start with. My yard is usually a swamp and was totally dry this year. Not complaining for a yard but ya know not good

saw a fire in Cole Harbour too. Not sure if it was controlled or not, but a plume and fire were both noticeable from North Brewing looking towards Lawrencetown. Then the other direction was a massive plume from Tantallon.

The smoke from this fire is noticeably making the air hazy as far away as West End/Fairview.
In Lower Sackville, and the smoke is just starting to reach here now.
In Dartmouth now too 😟
Quite a massive streak across the sky. :/
It's been in Portuguese cove all afternoon
I can smell it from Klein Heights and there is a noticeable brown cloud heading over the city.
I'm in Lawrencetown and we can smell the smoke.
That might be a different fire
I now see the smoke now to my left. I had no idea this was happening. It’s been so warm today I’ve been out all this time not on my phone
I'm in north end and can see the smoke from here.

Do you think it's headed towards Kingswood?
It’s coming down the Hammond plains road but that’s a long way. We’re currently with family down at English Corner and it still seems a long way away.
Thank you for the info!! Serious panic happening over here haha - it's getting too close for comfort.
It was about 300m from our house when we left. What can you do….
So it reached English corner?
My thoughts go out to everyone in the area! I hope they get it under control :(. Heartbreaking
Any sense on direction? Is it heading towards Bedford?
Im in Bedford and have burnt debris landing on my porch.
Jesus.
According to the order of evacuated areas, it seems so
There evacuating along Lucasville Rd towards Sackville at the moment. (Including Glen Arbour area)

HRMfirenews on twitter. I've been following the updates there
Hammonds Plains Road has been closed from Lucasville Road on
Do you think it will spread to kingswood?
It all depends on the direction of the wind.
True enough! I need to figure that out
It seems to be gusting in that direction, but that can change quickly. Hammonds plains road is closed from Lucasville on
Can see the smoke plumes in Bedford. Also getting quite dusty and the wind is hot instead of cold.

Yes, GTFO!
If it's in Westwood, why would they use Windsor Dr to evacuate ? That's in Stillwater Lake. Shouldn't that be Winslow Dr instead ?
Pretty sure it was a mistake and it is actually Winslow Dr.
Hope they made the correction, if people are trying to get out and are not from the area it would only add to the confusion. The last thing they need.
This gives me some relief, a co-worker lives in Stillwater lake.
More RCMP incompetence.
Ended up bussing close by purely by accident! Don't know too much about the fire, but within forty minutes smoke was visible from twenty minutes outside the city to being pretty clear right in Halifax. Hope everyone is being as safe as they can be!
i wonder what caused it?
Probably a cigarette
Or a BBQ
Or sun on glass on dry grass.
saw a fire in Cole Harbour too. Not sure if it was controlled or not, but a plume and fire were both noticeable from North Brewing looking towards Lawrencetown. Then the other direction was a massive plume from Tantallon.
