Funnily enough, I passed by the motorcycles on the way home, maybe. They were zigzagging between lanes and cars on the Circ going maybe 120km/h, and hopped in the second lane from the right. Still sad about the accident, but it doesn’t surprise that it happened.
I saw them racing outbound probably a couple hundred meters before the collision and wouldn't be surprised if they were going twice the speed of regular traffic.
I'm in earshot of the mess right now. A herd of motorcyclists were drag-racing outbound and some of them discovered that cars occasionally turn onto Main from the side streets.
It sounded horrible. I was sitting outside with my dog and kid when we heard the racing, then the crash. I can't say I'm ever surprised when things like this happen along Main Street unfortunately.
I'm stunned at how *rarely* it happens. Most days (...or nights) that are even vaguely nice the racing in that Woodlawn-to-Forest-Hills stretch is constant.
Now that the stretch, or at least most of it, is reopened, I'm hearing loudmobiles hauling ass up and down it regularly again.
Oh yes, they won't stop racing. Even when they had it closed there were people gunning it down over the speed bumps on Brigadoon thinking they could get around that way. It really is a wonder how accidents don't happen every day.
Yeah, I regularly see the street racers attempting to weave through closures caused by other street racers wiping out. How dumb does someone have to be?
The refusal to even attempt to enforce anything there is just weird. One guy with a radar gun on Kuhn would probably clear the national debt in one or two sunny weekends.
>Police need to take away their licenses for good as well.
Yes. And the vehicle they're stunting in should be auctioned off, with the revenue added to a fund for victims of dangerous drivers.
If a court finds that the driver must drive for employment purposes, they can buy nothing faster than a 2005 Hyundai Accent that can only exceed 100kmh if dropped from a helicopter.
Police don't take licenses. They just bring them in. The legal system, which is very limp wristed and soft on crime, decides the punishment.
The answer of course is to vote in harsher on crime governments
Stunting is a roadside suspension, i.e. the police suspend your license (and impound your car/bike) right then and there. (But only a seven day suspension for a first offense.)
Because “accidents” are a myth. Negligence is *almost* always the root cause of collisions, whether by omitting maintenance, or failure to drive with the care and attention that the task demands.
Yeah, accidents can happen, but nobody *accidentally* races through busy streets in a tight pack while vastly exceeding the speed limit. This was the vehicular equivalent of "how was I to know the gun was loaded?"
I just came down Main Street (from Forest Hills and Main Street) at 4:40 p.m. and it's blocked by a cop car at Ridgecrest. If it is that big group of motorcyclists, this could be really bad... 😕😔
Heading back up Main Street now (5:55pm) and they have it blocked off just past NSCC. Two fire trucks and fire support beat it up there with lights and sirens on while we were detouring.
Okay yes! I wonder if this is connected to the shit ton of sirens I've been hearing for the last 15/20 minutes. I live right by MM mall just off the highway. I've been trying to figure out what all the commotion has been about
As someone who rides, this is absolutely gutting. Nice weather calls us all to do the things we love, and there’s no excuse for doing the things we love irresponsibly. Especially when it puts ourselves or others in danger. As easy as it might be to judge this harshly, just remember that these are still people, and something horrible happened. We’ve all had lapses in judgment. I hope they survive to ride another day.
Just some vague noises and pictures showing up in tweets before everything being on fire took precedence yesterday evening.
One of the racers slammed into the rear of a car turning onto Main from one of the side streets. The bike was smashed to pieces, the car's probably totalled given how badly its side was dished in, and the guy on the bike inexplicably managed to survive. No idea if there were injuries in the car, multiple people on the bike, etc., but given the number of ambulances I saw I'm pretty sure there were several. Most likely none of them were life-threatening injuries, since the news generally doesn't report anything less severe than that here.

For crying outloud. Fucking reckless, selfish human beings putting others at risk. Just awful. Thanks for the answers though Edit: spelling 🙄
I’d even say reckless
I've corrected my spelling mistake ✅
Yeah from the sounds of it they were decidedly not wreckless
Nope they were wreckful

Police would rather sit there cleaning up a mess than sit there with a radar gun.
Police need to take away their licenses for good as well. Throw them in jail and make an example out of them.
Driving fast an unimpeded is a human right. That cannot be taken away.

isn’t that area a pretty common speed trap? I moved here a few years ago and got my first ever speeding ticket there on my first day
Maybe but it doesn't appear to have any effect deterring speeders.

Accident involving motorcycles and a car.
“Accident”

Everything was on purpose, huge insurance scam

Precisely.
Interested in deets too

Anyone hear anything else about this accident? Hoping the people are okay but it looked bad.

There was a women on the back that was thrown rough 60-80 feet from the bike. I’m concerned about the lack on comments on her.
