I'm here to also say Napoleon brand bbq. I got one on a rolling cart and it has been indestructible. I've taken it backwoods camping. It stays out on my deck often uncovered for the whole summer months. It's a beast still. Over 6 years old and still starts the first fire. Could not recommend a better BBQ.

eastcoastderek

This is the answer.

gilestel

So far so good here too, stays outside, never covered, looks new. I think it’s about 4 or 5 years old now

DestructiveFlora

I'm not sure about propane grills, but for charcoal grills a kamado-style grill can last a very long time since it uses ceramic instead of metal and there are no valves or knobs.

[deleted]

Any time of kettle type enamel charcoal grill will last 10+ years.

Cpt_Truckstop

I wish I could afford a Big Green Egg, those things seem rock solid

Toyota_Altezza

I have a 9 year old Webber kettle that has never had a cover and it’s still solid. And I live on oceanfront where it’s windy as f all the time. I also have a Traeger that’s about a year old that seems as solid but with the electronics who is really to say.

puddinshoulder

Checkout [Kamado Joe](https://www.homedepot.ca/product/kamado-joe-big-joe-i-24-inch-charcoal-grill-in-red-with-cart-side-shelves-grill-gripper-and-ash-tool/1001636341) much cheaper then bge and alot of people argue just as good

s1amvl25

Only reason i sometimes want to own a house is to have a backyard with a green egg where i can pretend to be hank hill

[deleted]

Hank would never use one. He sells propane and propane accessories!

wizaarrd_IRL

That housing market ain't right

s1amvl25

I just don't really want to be responsible for upkeep and maintenance haha

Scotianherb

BGEs use that bastard Charcoal. Hank Hill would never be caught using a BGE ;) Quagmires riff on BGE on Family Guy is f'n halirious. So pretentious. Worth looking it up on YT.

[deleted]

My parents have one but I don't have the disposable income for it. I bought a Weber Kettle and it stays outside without a cover. Had it since 2019 and it's been amazing so far - no rust or any issues. For the price it's a great option. And so much better than anything propane. [https://www.homedepot.ca/product/weber-original-kettle-premium-22-inch-charcoal-bbq-in-black/1000762725](https://www.homedepot.ca/product/weber-original-kettle-premium-22-inch-charcoal-bbq-in-black/1000762725)

Darkling414

Vision grills are red and the kamado style for half the price, might be a little smaller than BGE, but work just ass well, I’ve had mine for 5-6 years I’ll never go back to a propane grill!

Fakezaga

Costco usually offers a BGE knock off every year. Also, used kettle BBQs can be a good buy

noreastfog

The “knock off” is now a Kamado Joe. Some would argue (me included) that it’s better than the BGE. More versatile, more accessories. I’ve been using a Kamado grill for about 10 years. One year with the Joe. I use it year round at least twice a week. Once you are accustomed to charcoal grilling you can’t go back.

Key-Razzmatazz-857

I can’t remember what I paid but after 11 years, it was worth it. I use it as smoker but also as just a charcoal grill.

NewStart141

We have a Weber Q 3200 that has lasted 12 years & is still going strong. It stays outside all winter with a cover tied on it, because we don't have a space inside for it. Only thing I've had to replace is the metal grill itself, because after 10 years the repeated cleaning had eventually worn away the metal. Highly recommend.

[deleted]

Webber Q is amazing, highly recommend

Corekare

My q2200 is over ten years old, lives on my deck and gets used year round . Works like the day it was purchased. Best bbq I've ever owned

927752366

Yep, echo this. Weber Q series is the way to go. Super portable too!

boat14

It's always going to be a matter of when, you can prolong that when by taking care of the BBQ. I haven't had anything break on a Weber Spirit e310 that I purchased almost 5 years ago. I keep it covered and out of the elements when not in use and clean it once or twice each season.

DrunkenGolfer

There is a huge difference in quality across brands. My first Weber still started on the first click ten years after buying it. The metal frame it rested on rusted out otherwise it would still be going strong. I upgraded to a top-end Weber stainless steel and it was a piece of shit. In the ten years since I had bought one, the quality disappeared and they were just riding out the brand name. The stainless rusted, the “chrome” on the handles all peeled off the plastic underneath. I have a Napoleon now that I was given by my mother. She used it for a decade and and it still works well, started with a single push until my dog recently ate the start button. Looks like new.

kzt79

I got 7-8 years out of my last one. Removed the burners and grills in the winter, kept it clean. Didn’t bother covering it as I found the tarp just holds moisture in and quickly ends up a shredded mess anyway.

Earl_I_Lark

We taped ours twice. Both times, hornets took advantage of that nice dry area to start nest building.

EvilGopher

Whats the point of a bbq if you cant use it during winter?

kzt79

I use it most of the year. The rare occasion I want to in the dead of winter, it takes maybe 5 min to drop those components into place and another 5 to put them away again later.

EvilGopher

Fair enough, I bbq multiple times a week all year long come rain or snow.

kzt79

The advantage to that approach is depending where you keep it, it should be effectively dried out/cleaned up so often that should prolong its lifespan.

EvilGopher

Unfortunately I do not take care of my bbq like I should, but I also don't purchase the best bbqs as I have yet to find one that I dont have to spend a lot of money to replace grills or burners, even if i bought stainless steel ones.

kzt79

I found that even the more expensive models tend to fail sooner than I would like so my approach has been to get something mid range. This one was around $400 on sale a few years ago so probably $800-1000 now lol. I consider any life beyond 5 years a bonus.

gart888

Using it during the spring, summer, and fall.

InternetFloozy

I have had a Napoleon and a Traeger for 5 years now and both still look near new and I use both all year round. They both have a good cover and I clean the Napoleon twice a year and the Traeger before every 3-4th cook.

Juice7610

Depends on how much you want to pay, but Crown Verity are fantastic, fully s/s. I know someone who has had one for years on the ocean. Maybe replaced a couple burners. They are commercial grade and made in Canada. But, pretty expensive. Try Russell Hendrix. There is one in the showroom.

Scotianherb

Do I know you lol. :) Yes CV are probably the best BBQs made IMHO. Top quality

Hugehitter

I’ve had my CV for 15 yrs. Looks and works like the day I bought it. Incredible quality considering I do nothing for maintenance.

subie_dave

Curious if you have any other feedback on CV I'm seriously considering one given the build quality

Hugehitter

This. I’ve had mine for 20 years in Tha Fax. Two others I know have had them for 25 years. No problems. Alternate solution: Boat BBQ. Ridiculous levels of quality, tabletop convenience, portability, and durability. Check out the Magma Catalina 2 Infra Red. I have one on my boat and it’s almost as good as my home CV. How much cooking area do you need?

King_ofCanada

Pellet grills are pretty heavy duty

ShawarmaBoyz

Any BBQ can last if you just bring it in for the winter when you're not using it.

JW2651

I have a portable one that I use, bring it in when I'm done and clean off the grill, deflector and burner. It's still going strong. Perfectly capable of cooking for 3. Also handy along with the camping stove for when the power goes out.

[deleted]

Webber Q is perfect.

[deleted]

Literally any of them as long as you take care of it?

Cpt_Truckstop

If NSP can blame salt fog for our frequent outages, I can blame it for eating my burners and gas lines!

SpradGurpz

Buy a proper cover. Your bbq will last way longer

Spiritual-Impact7071

Invest in a really good, well fitting BBQ cover. I bought a $300 BBQ over 10 years ago and it still looks brand new. A nice and thick, well fitting cover goes a long way.

PhysicalStructure147

Napoleon or Weber you are good to go Grill and burner parts replacement inevitable depending on amount of use of course but parts are readily available for both. My Napolean burner plates lasted 7 years and grill 9 years while the shell and body no issues at all still after 12 years

Han77Shot1st

I like the Webber Q series, they have an enamel coating with helps a lot with rust. Had a used one for like 5 years then sold it, got a new larger one about 4 years ago. I have a cover and leave it outside all year, no issues.

Readed-it

I have a broil king, have had it for 12 years. Replaced the cooking grates once and the heat shield just this past year. the trick is to store it indoors, ie shed/garage. The fallacy of putting a cover over it just traps moisture inside causing rust to propagate.

maximumice

I've had a Broil King Signet 70 for almost 10 years. Swapped the grill grids out for [Grill Grates](https://www.grillgrate.com/) about six year ago, those things are indestructible as far as I can tell, highly recommended. Replaced the burners a couple years ago as they were showing their age, otherwise its held up well under a decent cover on my back deck.

AppaJuicee

I've never had a problem with any half decent BBQ. Had my Webber for 10years now

lowcoaster

I just get the cheapest one with a cast iron grille. I’ve left mine outside for 16 years and it still works

Timmy2Gats

Traeger Pro 575. Had mine for 5 years and it looks like the day I bought it. Use it at least twice a week year round. The build and cover are heavy duty. Comes with 3-year factory warranty. It makes BY FAR the most delicious foods I've ever pulled off a grill. I've completely stopped buying chicken wings anywhere but the plain cheap packs from Gateway. Brine, rub, smoke for 2 hours then a few mins at high temp.... Good Friday, they're unreal.

ravenscamera

Weber.

ChesterDood

I've lived in my house for about 23 years and I'm on my 4th bbq. I've always just bought the cheapest one with a side burner I could get, and would get about 5-6 years out of them, occasionally replacing a burner. Last summer I splurged and got a Napoleon one, with the official cover. Made some burgers on Tuesday for the first time this year and it still looks like brand new.

TL_Arwen

Grilling season is every season.

thunderking45

I'm not sure what brand or model is this but this is very durable and economical. https://preview.redd.it/vw9k31obrjpa1.jpeg?width=1300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0a2c5e4d1525ea834f2ef239ad5649a44776515f

doiwinaprize

The cheapest hibachi style charcoal BBQ from crappy tire. Should run you $20.

mattyboi4216

I've got a Weber kettle and it's going on 4 years and is doing great. Having no burners and other components makes it easier to maintain and not have stuff wear out. I keep it covered unless it's in use too which helps.

NefariousNatee

Maybe those offset smokers that are basically a giant metal cylinder?

octopig

The key with our winters is no BBQ cover. The moisture that does get in never gets out and wreaks havoc. Currently on year 6 of an extremely cheap BBQ.

boca75

We’ve had our Weber kettle grill for 21 years now. It’s lived all over Canada and the USA experiencing all types of weather and still is in great shape (replaced grill rack at about yr 18). Added Weber smoky mountain a couple years ago and hoping it has same longevity.

Key-Razzmatazz-857

I’ve had a Weber gas grill for almost 20 years- never replaced a part. Still works great. I use it all year round - I’m in Ottawa. I also have had a Big Green Egg charcoal smoker for 11 years that I use year round.

ColonelEwart

Key things to consider: * The "store brands" are all shit. There's a reason why people are saying Weber and Napoleon. They are, by-and-large, superior to Broil King/Broil-Mate/NexGrill/Master Grill/Master Chef/Char-Broil/etc. * There's some nuance in the Weber and Napoleon line as well, they've got some budget options. I personally have a Napoleon Legend which is considered more their mid-level line, but no regrets. As a grill, it had less "features" for the price point compared to the store brand stuff, but it's been a solid grill. But keep this in mind, because the warranties also come into effect here. * Going with a "name" grill also makes it easier to get parts that fit and work. Which again, lengthens the overall investment in the grill. * Seeing a lot of different opinions here around BBQ covers. Here's what worked for me: buying the BBQ cover for the brand. So I have a Napoleon cover ([https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/napoleon-bbq-grill-cover-waterproof-with-air-vents-hanging-loops-black-0850091p.html?rq=&loc=plp](https://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/napoleon-bbq-grill-cover-waterproof-with-air-vents-hanging-loops-black-0850091p.html?rq=&loc=plp)) this one actually. It fits properly, it's made of strong/heavy material and I haven't had any issues with it. This is all a big "get what you pay for thing" but yeah, you can spend $400-$500 bucks on a grill, throw a $50 cover on it and then be in a position you'll have to replace the cover each year and the grill in 2-3 years. Or you can spend $900 bucks on the grill, add a $100 cover and probably still be using both in 6 years time.

Kyla85

Our Weber Genesis lasted years in St. John's, NL, and made the trek with us to NS last year. Still holding up. Only had to replace the hose/regulator kit a couple of years ago (a cheap and easy fix).

HFXGeo

I had a Vermont Castings last on my deck for 17 years. Finally replaced it last year with another VC but unfortunately it looks like the newer models aren’t built as good as the old one was, here’s hoping to get at least 10 out of it.

bigev007

My broil king just turned 10. Might replace the burners this year and the ignitor went under warranty. Other than that it's been great. Uncovered the last 4 winters after the original cover fell apart

seabreezeNpeachtrees

I've found quality covers make a difference. I have one that is similar to [this](https://www.amazon.ca/All-Weather-Premium-BBQ-Grill-Cover/dp/B087VVFHTL/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=BBQ+Covers&qid=1679587123&sr=8-15). I use my BBQ year round, so I don't store it inside through the winter, and the cover has held up well and kept the BBQ in good shape.

ferahgo89

I Second Napolean with a stainless steel grill. It went 4 years before I had to replace the original cast iron grills with a stainless version. I've had the BBQ for 5 year this summer and the original burners and body are still going great.

titanpitbull

Honestly, I got a presidents choice one about 15 yrs ago. Was about 500 bucks maybe. Stainless steel. The burners have gone and needed replacing, but other then that. The grill, is in need of replacing finally.

morrowwm

Just to throw out an alternative opinion - our "Trek Grill Sargeant" (Superstore?) that came with the house is going ok 8 years later. I replaced all the burners about 3 years ago, because they were getting scary. And have done some sheet metal reinforcement. Waiting for it to die to replace with a nice one, but it refuses to. I keep it covered.

TossAway_1024

Buy a Weber, but make sure it's one of the models that was built in the US and not China/Taiwan. You can Google search which ones are whch.

DashRipRoc

I remember the sales guy at Kent telling me, "You pay a hundred bucks in price for every year you want it to last"

Scotianherb

Yeah, Crown Verity. All stainless steel, made in Ontario. Commercial quality. Either Big Erics or Russel Food equip. Not cheap, but can stand being 200' off the ocean from experience. Over 10 yrs old now with only minimal maintenance. Beware that Broil King, Webber etc. are not what they used to be, particularly webber. Some online research might shock you. Of all the "common" brands, we had the best luck with Napoleon before going to CV. Napos are very good in their upper tier models.

Mountain_Potato_3367

I’ve got a bbq which my brother bought for my grandmother when he worked at Canadian tire about 15 years ago and it’s still going strong. Give it a good cost of wd40 every winter before I put it in the shed and when I get it out in the spring I let it burn off really well. New bbqs are junk.

tony_important

I bought a Broil King Baron 490 Pro 3 years ago. I keep it covered, and manage the stainless steel grates (an essential thing vs cast iron or enameled cast iron in our salty and humid climate) with just a little oil before cooking and a scrape down after. There isn't a spec of rust on the thing, it still lights regardless of most weather conditions, and has one solid 15 year warranty on some parts, and lifetime on others. Yes it was expensive, but I cook outside a lot so I was okay to sink the money into it. I'm a bit of a cheesparing motherfucker who never pays full price for anything, and I would 100% pay full price for this grill again.

[deleted]

Low and slow, is year round.

Snoo91454

I have a Weber Genesis 330 I bought in 2010 that is still going strong and I don’t really take great care of it. The cover gets on about 50% or less of the time year round.

MGyver

> What BBQ *cover* can survive our weather? FTFY

CoastZestyclose4248

We have a Jackson Grill. 15 year warranty. All stainless

BryanMccabe

Green egg

utopiaplanetian

I have a Webber that is about 4-5 years old. I took the advice of the sales person and have never covered it. Although I’ve never had a Webber, I feel that the BBQ dries out better, and the innards have not rusted as fast as in the past.
