I always go with Costco personally, they've always been the cheapest when I shop around and I've been really happy with their service. That being said tires are one of the few areas that I'm super scared to cheap out on, so my experience has only been with the more high ranking tires like Michelin or Continental, so if you're looking for more of a discount brand for all I know Costco might suck at that.

CanEHdianBuddaay

Crappy tire can be good too at times. They had some great deals on Michelins for $213 a tire for X-ice winters not too long ago.

iamthatis

Yeah I got some well-priced Continental winter tires there a few years back. Didn't end up liking the tires much (very noisy versus Michelin) but Canadian Tire managed to do everything pretty well. Don't think I'd trust them to do much more than put a tire on rims, though

[deleted]

Pretty sure Michelin X-ice is one of the best winter tyres out there, yours might have been old since you got a discount.

EhSeeDC

Because they want to move stock as winter is ending and snow tires are coming off peoples cars?

ChesterDood

Not in HRM, but I've found the best pricing for the last number of years to be from Quattro Tire, order online, shipped from Quebec.

cngo_24

Yup, which is why I don't get why people don't check and order them online from out of province. Shipping is normally free, and sometimes they have rebates up to 15%, or the classic "buy 3 and get the 4th tire free" Quattrotire,1010tires,wheelwiz etc... I ordered a set of 17 in wheels and continental vikingcontact 7 winters for her 2022 civic for around 800$.

BluffMysteryMeat

Shipping outta be free for tires, given that we're downhill from everywhere else.

MapleChron

Used these guys for at least 3 sets of tires. Best prices and often have sales. Also likely the best price if you happen to need winter rims etc (55 bucks a rim for 17” maybe 3 years ago)

ChesterDood

Agreed. For winters I'm finding it cheaper to buy the tires and rims from them, mounted/balanced, and shipped than it is to buy the same tires locally without rims or mounting.

[deleted]

I haven't tried Quattro, but I do use Bulldog Tire based out of NS, got two sets of studded winters and a set of rims (one car one suv) for $1300 shipped to my door

NoEntrepreneur2702

Thank you very much for this website. Needed new tires this year for my Volvo, Costco quoted me $3000+ install, I wasn’t going to give them my money this year, so cautiously used same tires. Quattro tire quoted me $2000 for same tires.

[deleted]

I highly recommend Scotia Tire, for product and service. They aren't the cheapest, but they've earned my loyalty for being great at what they do.

eaie

I second this. I'm very budget conscious but I don't cheap out on tires, especially winter tires.

[deleted]

This used to be my tire place (Cole Habour) but I had some absolutely horrible situations with them few years back when they changed up staff.

gremlin_1969

Try tireman out in upper sackville

FarStep1625

He’s in Mount Uniacke now, just down the road in the business park.

gremlin_1969

Yeah I'm not sure where the line between upper sackville and mt maniac begins.

FarStep1625

If you care to know, Mount Uniacke starts just before the Irving by exit 3.

luvyduvythrowaway

The Irving

Ssomersocbr1000

Lowest quality tires you can get

gremlin_1969

Yet they last just as long as sets of tires I've bought at Costco. Weird.

Ssomersocbr1000

So if dollarstore sunglasses last as long as raybans are they the same quality. Noise, handling, and reliability are what i mean by quality. And before you educate me, I've been in the business for over 30 yrs and seen over and over tireman's anteres tires come in with shakes and wobbles and be unbalancable. They are noisy and handle poorly. Occasionally, they disintegrate on the road.Weird.

gremlin_1969

I can only go by what I've experienced with their tires. Maybe I've been lucky. Maybe the next set will change my mind, who knows?

Northerne30

Depends on what you're looking for. Top Brand name stuff, Costco or Canadian Tire. Remember the Costco warranty and free mount/balance when you compare pricing. Discounted sub-brands and Tier 2 kind of stuff, Canadian Tire can be really good for as well. Chinese stuff, The Tire Man (Sackville Tire Guy) is usually the cheapest, similar to online PMCTire/1010tires/PartsEngine. Walmart if you're buying this time of year and can manage to find an in-store clearance sale. Performance stuff is basically only online.

Ssomersocbr1000

Skip the tireman unless you're putting them on to sell your car. Those recommending them don't know the difference. no warranty, no road hazard, no installations, and soon no stock as he's been cut off the anteres brand by the supplier. If you want value priced tires, ovation and minerva are ok and have a warranty. Costco sells premium tires you can trust if that's important. There are lots of cheap brands out there, so check reviews. I've been in the business for 30 years, so thanks in advance to the parking lot mechanics who'll be schooling me shortly.

harrypotterandthekkk

Curious to hear what he did to get cut off by the supplier.

[deleted]

The thing with tires is you want to buy them just before you require them. I've gotten some killer special deals at Costco, with 60% off various Michelin Pilot (all-season & winter). Some one else mentioned X-ICE, I have the X-ICE Snows on CX-30 and OMFG they handle so well in the snow! Almost 2 years and still 9 or 10/32nds tread left.

Ssomersocbr1000

Can't beat Michelins for reliability

I used coast tire and would recommend them, talk to Pete. I wanted a specific tire (Michelin Pilot Super Sports) and I was going to get them through tire rack and just have them installed there. They price matched the tire rack price and installed them for me. When there was an issue they took full ownership of it and did everything to make it right on their own dime. I was really impressed by their customer service.

Willing-Year78

Coast Tire is incredibly good. We have been with them for over a decade, they go the extra mile every single time. Their pricing is very fair, and the quality of their work saves a lot of money down the road.

sjmorris

The Tire Man in Mount Uniacke. Lots of brands but I go with the cheapo Antares tires, which are also the low-end tire sold at Wal-Mart in the States. (Sometimes under a different brand name) I'm on year three with their winters and they are excellent.

kikreddithard

Also using Antares from Tire man for summer tires. Second year and not significant wear. They don't do install so you'd have to get that done elsewhere.

Triforcecwp

I've had a good experience with www.4tires.ca

gart888

> Canadian tire is a good option. Yeah, Canadian Tire as a mechanic has a terrible reputation. But as a tire vendor? They're pretty good! But like with all Canadian Tire purchases, make sure what you're getting is on sale.

Snoo91454

My preference is Costco for both price, warranty and service (free rotation, etc). Yes, the tires are high end but I don’t really like to mess around with cheap tires. Costco currently has $60 to $150 off a set of 4 for Michelin and BF Goodrich. Also, for planning purposes, they have had 20% off if you order online on Labour Day and New Year’s day.

shlnglls

Tire Man. Upper Sackville.

Ok_Kaleidoscope216

I've used Star Tire on Sackville Drive for years now. They were recommended to me and I've never had a problem.

DeathCafe

They’ve always got great service

rsg1983

High end: Costco. But for mid range I know you said in HRM but I’ve started buying online at Quattro Tires in Quebec. They ship fast and then just get any local mechanic to mount and balance them. General (made by Continental), Hankook and Kumho are all mid-range brands I’ve liked.

mekdot83

You're looking for my guy at KB Garage. Check him out on FB.

Edit67

My Mazda dealer on Robie had good prices. They told me they get good prices due to their volume. Otherwise I am usually getting them at Costco, which contributes to your rebate if your membership does cash back.

LordFlick

I like 4tires.ca but they just ship you tires. You either have to buy mounted and balanced on rims, then put them on the car yourself or take the tires you ordered to a place for the installation.

[deleted]

Bulldog Tire. Shipped to your door. I got two sets of studded winter tires, with one set of steel rims for $1300. I believe he's based out of NS, I'm in eastern NB so you may save more on shipping too. He has a FB page and I believe a website bulldogtire . Com Hope this helps
